Wow! Annie's is a traditional family style breakfast house. Guided to this local favorite by Yelp reviews, we were all suitably impressed. Fellow fans of "chicken fried" steak will be intrigued by the report of Annie's "real deal". This hand breaded, tenderized cube steak, smothered in rich brown gravy is definitely something to write home about. The portion is so large they have to serve the home fried potatoes, eggs and homemade biscuits on a second plate! Chicken fried steak affectionadoes are often left disappointed by a menu's promise and the wait staff's uneasy assurances. But, the choice of sausage or brown gravy is a tell tale indicator you are in for the real McCoy. Gently nudged toward the brown gravy by the waitress, I can't imagine ordering differently in the future. Found this gem on yelp. Passing through town and stopped for breakfast. We were met by Annie and her sister. Friendly, fun to talk to. Cool place with lots to look at on the walls. Got the feel that the owner died a few years ago and the rest of the staff didn't quite know how to cook. Atmosphere is rustic and quaint. No windows and cash only. Trish the server was super sweet and the service was great. The food however.....sigh. Wish I was able to leave a good review.... Don't order the clam chowder. We think the cook may be over the hill and loosing his/her taste buds. It was so salty my lips practically shriveled up and fell off. Salad came out of the crypt. It was browning on the edges and hadn't seen the sun probably as long as the kitchen that it escaped from. I gave this place two stars because it was still a great experience and good laughs. I wish I could give Annie's a hundred stars. I have never been more content than I have been hanging out at Annie's. This is not just a place with great food but the customer service is at the top of the list. I walked in and the first thing I was greeted with was the smile. This is not the usual "customer is king" smile. The waitress was genuinely happy to see people coming into her beloved workplace. She was like a mom welcoming her children home. When we sat down, it was in a very comfortable booth. The entire dining room is decorated in vintage coke and Pepsi memorabilia. These walls are full of fun. I enjoyed scanning it for my favorite ads. The entire place was kid friendly but I noticed that there were many older regulars so their is little disruptive behavior because it's hard to get bored when the food and drink are so quick. The menu seems simple and straightforward dinner fair. I ordered a hamburger and I didn't even get the chance to exhale before the food was in front of me. And oh what food! The hamburger was twice the size of the bun that took up half the plate. Beef from Montana (it tastes grass fed) that fills up your soul. I have to mention what was also included, my choice of fries. These things were huge. The thick cut steak fries were perfectly cooked, crispy perfection that made me finish mine and I would have tried to steal my friends but they were already gone. Delicious But the best part was when I got our bill. Less than the cost of 2 cups of coffee at Starbucks the cost of both of our meals floored me with delight. I have returned since that first time, too many times to count and it is always consistent. No matter the time or day. A great and rare quality in a local or franchise restaurant. This place smells bad. Its really musty smelling. The service is very friendly, but it's very slow. We came on a Tuesday morning, and it wasn't very busy. They do not let you know up front that they don't take credit or debit. They have an atm ( I'm sure they own), so you can pay them. The biscuits and gravy were gross. The omelets are good and the hash browns and home fries are good. The decor is old and shabby. It's a dive without windows. I doubt I would return here, but I've been to worse places. read more

We were just looking for a spot to stop on our road trip to have brunch, and we like to support and try family owned businesses. Wow, this place is great! All the food was delicious we had the "Works" omelet(so good) and the kids had eggs and bacon and french toast. They have the BEST BACON I have ever had at a restaurant! Cooked to perfection! Great service and really cool local feel inside, it's obvious it's local hang out, but they were just as friendly with us, lots of seating clean bathrooms, and we fed a hungry family of 6 for under $40 bucks! It is so nice to find a local business that is owned by a local entrepreneur. The service is exceptional the drive up appeal is not that exciting when you walk in it's a little bit dark but there is a lot of memorabilia on the walls. The food is incredible I really enjoyed my pancake in my Denver omelette. They don't have lattes but the coffee is never ending. I rarely write reviews and only when I'm really blown away. Passing through from California and checked Yelp- stellar reviews so I stopped in for lunch. This place is a classic. The staff is amazing and I could hear the call out from the kitchen- "order ready for Mike and Shirley". This happened several times- the back of the house is acknowledging the presence of the regulars. Guys, this country needs more of this incredible customer service. To top it off, Annie was working the floor and working as fast and hard as the other waitress, and I can tell that they're close friends, respect each other and are both happy people. Very refreshing atmosphere, a step back, but a wonderful step back. The food was outstanding. Club Sandwich and fries. And yes, I had a side of ranch for the fries- which they offer when ordering. I spoke briefly to Annie when I cashed out. She's been at this location for 10 years, but restaurants for 18. You can tell right away- this person is solid and honorable. Everything about this place was great. It's a little bit of a hole in the wall with outdated decorations but it adds to the whole vibe. Burger was handpicked and you could tell it was fresh. Fries were definitely homemade. Omelette was huge, sausage and bacon in it were very high quality. The 'seasonal veggies' appeared to be frozen vegetables but they were fine. This was a very weird experience. It's like stepping back in time. The entire restaurant is covered in antique coke and Pepsi decor. The locals mainly go here which seems like a good thing but the food took forever. About an hour to come out and was unfortunately cold. We ordered breakfast for our kids and ordered chicken fried steaks. The food was good but was delivered to the wrong table (no kidding). We were headed back to Oregon and Washington from a fly fishing trip on the Upper Madison. We wanted a good breakfast to fuel our drive back home so we checked Yelp for breakfast restaurants in Butte. Annie's came up with strong reviews so that was our choice. The map took us right to Annie's but I drove by without seeing any signs. There's no big flashy signs or neon. Basically, there's a door. A hole in the wall, if you will. And, that's what Annie's is. A simple, small and wonderful restaurant. The food was fantastic. I asked for the best item on the breakfast menu and was told the Chicken Fried Steak with Brown Gravy was excellent. Well, I was sort of hoping for a more traditional breakfast fare but I went with the recommendation. It was awesome! The brown gravy is a thing of beauty. Wow! The portion was huge but I was forewarned about that so came hungry. The hashbrowns, from fresh potatoes, were excellent. The eggs were perfectly cooked over easy. The wheat toast was good. Bread is one of only two breakfast items they don't make in the restaurant. I wonder how incredible it would be if Annie also made her own breads. But, the jam, the other item not made there, was tremendous. I do wish that I had reason to travel to or through Butte more often. I'd go to Annie's every time. read more

We stopped in Butte for lunch - en route from Seattle to Yellowstone. Annie's is totally unique - eclectic, clearly a local favorite. I had an omelet and Marilyn had a Club sandwich. I also have a milkshake.... Crazy big portions - really well prepared - very friendly - totally a gem! If you're ever in Butte, no, make that, if you're ever within a 100 miles or so of Butte, go to Annie's and order a chicken fried steak. If you love chicken fried steak, then you have had more than your share of frozen and pre-breaded CFS. Disappointment is, unfortunately the norm. But the CFS at Annie's is IT, the holy grail of CFS questors. hand breaded, lovingly fried, well sauced (although it comes standard with a brown gravy, which for some purists might not work). I've never had better, and although I can't really figure out why I'd ever be in Butte again, I hope that I am, so I can taste the glory that is Annie's chicken fried steak. While over-nighting in Butte back in June 2018 we stopped in at Annie's for some breakfast. Walking into Annie's is like coming down the stairs and seeing your friend's over the top basement remodeling project for the first time. It's not quite what you would expect. It was a fairly large room with booths and tables scattered throughout. There are no windows. There is plenty of artificial lighting to make up for the lack of natural lighting. Although the room is large, the combination of no windows and faux carpeting gave the room a cozy feel. Then there is the plethora of paraphernalia on the walls, in the corners, and hanging from the ceiling. The owner is a coke addict. There are Coca Cola signs, Coca Cola plates, Coca Cola cups, Coca Cola clocks, Coca Cola bottles, and other Coca Cola objects placed, hung, shelved, and strewn throughout the room. There also was an occasional Pepsi and Royal Crown interloper artifact on the wall. If you can't look out the window you certainly can keep your eyes stimulated with the decor. It was fun. I ordered a ham, cheddar, and green pepper omelet with hash browns and toast. My go to toast is rye. Here I was given a choice of the type of rye bread! I chose the deli rye over the dark rye although I was not sure what difference it made in terms of taste. Annie's slogan is "Just Good Food" and I would agree. It wasn't fantastic nor mediocre. It was just good. Our waitress was terrific. She was friendly, buoyant, and helpful. There was also a not so young gentleman who refilled our coffee cups a couple of times and who was just as convivial as our waitress. Perhaps Annie's father? He told us laughingly that "I forgot to put in my hearing aid and take my meds this morning". We just felt fortunate that he remembered to put on pants. I've been eating here for years and it's by far the best breakfast in a 45 min drive. Service is great and prices are super affordable. All you can eat biscuits and gravy are exceptional. Tip: If you order a sausage patty, know that it's HUGE and you only need 1. I made a mistake of ordering 2 and it's a lot of food. You'll leave here full and happy. Annie's Cafe has some of the best food in Butte. Basically, it's diner fare, but it's really (really!) tasty diner fare. I generally order the club sandwich. It's an enormous affair, stacked full of salty lunch meats and fresh-fried bacon (you can hear the bacon cooking after you order the sandwich). My dining partner usually orders the "all-you-can eat" biscuits and gravy. The biscuits aren't southern style, but they're not awful (in truth, I haven't had a good biscuit in all of Montana), and the gravy is made right when you order it. The prices are super reasonable; it's really one of the more inexpensive places to eat in town. The decor is a bit goofy (it used to be a Mexican restaurant by the looks of it), but it's comfortable, so the weirdness just adds to the charm. If you like diner food, try Annie's Cafe. Based upon the sterling reviews we stopped in for lunch. It is a quaint, comfort food place. It was quite busy after breakfast and we wanted the lunch. I believe that Annie was our server. Things just did not go right. First, the meal did not come out in a a timely manner. I ordered homemade potato chips that were greasy and nearly inedible. And we got the onion rings well after we were through. That was the downside. Now, the reason for the positive review. The salads were great, my steak part of the steak sandwich was very good and my husband liked his BLT. But the real topper was that prior to us even asking for the check, Annie told us we were not going to pay anything for a substandard meal. We objected. This is certainly not our first mediocre meal, nor will it be our last but she insisted. You have to admire an owner who is so dedicated to quality food and service. Since we had breakfasted here at Annie's before and loved it I decided to see what Annie could do for my RV Rally in Butte. As hosts for about 20 people we want everything to go smooth and be a great time with great food. Annie certainly did not let us down. Annie made mining food for our group to pick up and have at our campground. Pasties, gravy and coleslaw. It was wonderful. Everyone loved it with not a single complaint. Thank you Annie, you are fantastic. The food was just right and so tasty, it made a great impression for you and one for us as hosts.
