Visiting out daughter at UL and was hungry. It was too late for breakfast but not really hungry for lunch. Hit up the Broken Egg and was blown away. Place was super busy so had a 46 min wait but it was so worth it. I got the smoked salmon benedict, wife got the chicken and waffles, and daughter got the blueberry goat cheese pancakes and we all loved and swapped around the food. The chipotle honey was the bomb. I know we'll be back as the menu is chock full of things we all want to try. It's a bougie brunch place and is spectacular. Service was friendly and attentive. Food not up to par and service was horrible! I have eaten at Another Broken Egg in several cities and have always enjoyed the food and the service. At this location, we waited 10 minutes before anyone came to our table and another 5 minutes for coffee. Our waitress took our order and it was not an unusual order...2 orders of scrambled eggs, bacon, grits, and an English muffin. It took 38 minutes to bring out our food. Also, the first refill of coffee came just before our food came out. The English muffins were cold and they must of been short of eggs because I ate them in four small bites...and I mean small. The city grits were the only item that was plentiful and hot. We had also asked for an order of biscuit beignets to be served as dessert. Our waitress came to pick up our dinner dishes and informed us that the beignets should be ready, but if they were not she would taken off our order. About 5 minutes later, she said they would be out soon. We told her to take them off the order and bring the check. She did after another 5 minutes and then we had to wait for her to process the card. Total time from when we were seated to when we got our check was 78 minutes....for a basic bacon, egg, and grits breakfast. The manager brought the check and said she realized we were not happy. She said they had a party of ten and that put a stress on the restaurant. This is a large restaurant and if you can't handle a party of ten...don't open. We were not the only patrons who had to wait over30 minutes for their cold food. If you are in Lafayette Louisiana, find another place for breakfast. read more

This is one of those places that you REALLY want to like. Great menu and great charm. I was ready for an awesome breakfast with family and friends, but I just have to be honest. This wasn't impressive. Everyone's eggs were cold and dry when they got to the table (which for omelettes, makes a huge difference). The coffee was good - I'll give them that, but when our friend ordered a half-caf, the waitress brought out a regular coffee and told her she would bring a half full cup of decaf for her to mix herself... wtf? The mugs were not easily poured at all so she was making a mess at the table trying to mix it up. That was really odd. The potatoes were cold and hard. Service was forgetful and a little slow. I'm leaving two stars instead of one, just because i think that if the right management reads these reviews and fixes things, this could be a really great place. This place, in all honesty, is pretty darn good! The main thing that pisses me off to no end, however, is the constant, and I mean CONSTANT barrage of the same groups of people that get there, get seated, and just stay for hours on end as though they own the place!! It's pretty damned rude!! Now, the food is really good and the wait staff is always on point and very courteous. However today was the worst...server was borderline rude and didn't respond to normal pleasantries (I.e. thank you/ you're welcome). I'm pretty sure she forgot to put our order in and then lied to cover it up. We waited 45 minutes with a hungry toddler, when food came out she had forgot something from each of our dishes. We had to ask repeatedly for things that were supposed to be on our dish. By the time we got it all food was cold. Server never apologized or offered to comp our food. Sounded a lot better then it tasted, it was just bland.I then ordered the Southern Crab Stack. (Seasoned grit cake & jumbo lump crab cake topped with red bell peppers, green onions & a shrimp & Andouille sausage sauté). This was a beautiful looking dish. As for the taste it was nothing to write home about. I only ate a small portion of this. The butter sauce and toast were good.
