So go see for yourself to prove me wrong. ;o)~ It took nearly one year to complete and it was well worth the wait. The opening of the newest and most innovative disc golf course within a city park of Austin, Texas ended the nearly 20 year drought of not having a new course built in a city owned park. The disc golf course is located just east of downtown Austin and south of the popular Lady Bird Lake. It resides in an area that is known for softball fields, sand volleyball courts, bicycle trails and jogging paths. The course was built over the time of one year and easily integrated with all of the active amenities, parking areas, local facilities, and it assured connections with the trails and paths for local residents and those in the collegiate housing that is also near to the area. The Roy G. Guerrero Disc Golf Course encompasses a playing area that is over 2 miles long, filled with 18 baskets, and mostly contains dual tee pads to accommodate both Pros and Amateurs alike. So bring your water and your energy to train on a great course while improving your game. PROS for the Course: - defined fairways and solitude of play: no worries about getting hit by a stray disc - concrete tee pads with paver stone edges: provides stability and greatly reduces erosion issues - all materials from the site were used/recycled on the site for mulching and rock walking paths - water runoff/drainage was addressed to prevent unneeded erosion issues (hence, rock walls and barriers) - each basket has a 4ft x 1in rubber composite pad that prevents dig outs from when you remove your disc from the basket, pivot, and walk away - shade and lots of it - double helix flight paths for the fairways to accommodate left/right handed players - accessibility: trails to/thru the course connecting from bus stops/bike paths/collegiate housing give access to many people - brings great usage to an under served area and uses the land very well CONS (if you needed some) - limited water source/toilet facilities in the area now that the park WILL be popular - need a large trash receptacle in the parking lot to accommodate the people who cannot keep trash in their car POINTS OF INTEREST - you don't have to play to see the beauty, walk the course and look for the deer and wildlife - there are NO TRASH CANS on the course. This was intentional because the PARD has limited resources to send employees there, also, this was ruin the serenity of the course having containers sticking out like sore thumbs. Plus, the traffic needed to empty these cans would place an undue hardship on the course, by default, making roads across the landscape and defeating the purpose. *If you can bring it in, why not BRING IT OUT!* Overall, TOP NOTCH, GREAT COURSE. Bring your Big Technical Arm for a Risk vs Reward system that will pay off with great benefits.

Blood and guts everywhere. Clearly I didn't take a pic but just be aware if you walk with your dog and/or small children. It wasn't pretty. My dog is great off leash and luckily I saw it before she decided to go in for a closer look. Do we call the parks dept to come get it or just let nature take care of it. It looks pretty fresh.

Stretching along Shoal Creek, the park offers a mix of shaded walking and biking trails, open lawns, and beautifully restored natural areas. It is hard to believe when you are in the park that you are in the heart of central Austin. The park is especially family friendly, with a large playground, splash pad, treehouse style observation area, and plenty of seating. While we were at the park a school was hosting a picnic for its students. The northern portion of the park is even more quiet and scenic, with winding trails, limestone bluffs, and creek views. It's a great area for dog walks, leisurely strolls, picnics, workouts, or just relaxing under the trees. The park is well maintained and welcoming to all ages. This park is very special.

The stream nearby adds a peaceful touch, and the overall design of the park feels really intentional and creative. Kids will go crazy for the massive playground and all the interactive installations. The hanging net sphere is a must, you can lie inside and bounce around, and honestly the adults were just as into it as the little ones. There are also food vendors including ice cream, so you can easily spend a whole afternoon here. One of the most well-done parks I've been to. Highly recommend.

Her name is Tails, previously Wrigley. Have been to Zilker with her five times in the three weeks that we have had her, most recently this morning. This continues to be a great place to take a friendly animal and allow them to run wild off leash. She loves mixing it up with the other dogs and, being a Ridgeback, she is the fastest dog out there other than some of the Vizslas. Loves the sand where volleyball is played! Lots of parking! Easy access!

Zilker Park is Austin's giant front lawn -- sprawling, busy, and full of every outdoor activity…read moreimaginable happening at once. On any given day you'll see dogs chasing frisbees, people picnicking like it's a competitive sport, and someone doing yoga in a spot that makes you wonder if they're performing for the whole park. The lawn stretches out forever, and on a sunny day it feels like half the city is out there claiming a patch of grass. Yes, the Zilker Zephyr (the little train) still exists in spirit, though it's been through closures and rebuilds. The current version -- the Zilker Eagle -- runs a short loop that's basically nostalgia on wheels. Kids love it, adults tolerate it, and everyone agrees it's one of those Austin things that doesn't need to make sense to be charming. Down by Barton Springs Pool, the real show is the area where the pool overflows into Barton Creek. It's almost always packed with families, college kids, and anyone who didn't feel like paying admission or dealing with lifeguards. It's a lively, slightly chaotic stretch of water -- people wading, floating, splashing, and generally having a great time in a spot that feels like Barton Springs' unofficial side‑door entrance. Parking is its own adventure, especially on weekends, and you'll see people trekking across the park like they're on a pilgrimage from wherever they finally found a spot. But once you're in, it's easy to settle into the mix of sunshine, crowds, and classic Austin energy.

One its unique features...it's off the beaten path of other breweries. Live Oak Brewing is north of the airport and backs to the Fast Park remote airport parking lot. At first glance it looks like it's a convergence of a fire station and deserted manufacturing plant. The grounds are impeccable...tall statuesque trees, lush green vegetation and an extensive outside biergarten. It feels like you are in a nature bubble. Interestingly, Live Oak Brewing has its own on site 18 hole disc golf course (different from traditional golf) located directly on the brewery's property. Live Oak Brewing's interior has the feel of a German Hofbräu...homey, spacious, and welcoming, with long communal tables that encourage conversation and human interaction. You can see directly into the brewing space, with large tanks and equipment. Also, board games are available if you choose to play. Live Oak is family friendly and dog friendly. In fact, Groot, the owner's dog, freely roams through the brewery drinking area. While I only had sips of beer (not a big beer drinker), my friends enjoyed their beers. Live Oak Brewery Company is a super fun place to hang out.

Such a cool set up you can tell they truly put a lot into it and my wife and child had more fun than they've ever had playing disc golf so worth the admission. We never would have known this place was here if a friend in San Marcos hadn't told us about it. They're open to the public on a limited basis as this is a PDGA course, but keep an eye on their website and call ahead to confirm they're open to take advantage of any opportunity you have to go. They have two courses, Rolling Meadows and Circ Hill. We played on the Meadows and it was a great course. It's beautiful and pretty logically laid out. I'm a little mad that we didn't manage our time better because I wanted to play the Hills as well, but we had lunch plans and had to leave before we could. Their pro shop has a variety of discs for sale and a well stocked fridge with sports drinks and the like. There's a $10 greens fee for each player, but you can tell that they put that money to good use. That course was just amazing. We will definitely be back.
