Vision coverage through insurance has become so confusing and limiting to choice of covered providers. I chose Oakland Vision Center for several reasons, so I made an appointment. When I walked in the office I saw the office staff were helping one elderly lady. They were helping her with kindness, just like they would do for their grandmother. I was answering questions as a new customer when the phone rang. She answered the phone and asked them to hold on while continuing to helping me. Then soon after, one worker came out from back and asked her to help the person on the phone, and she took the tablet to continue filling out the form for me. They work together to provide the best possible service for all their customers. When I was selecting a frame for my glasses, one lady helped me find the frame I was looking for. I am glad that I chose this place.

Dr. Lee explained things very well and put me at ease with the journey we are on, reassuring me that, day or night I could call with concerns. She communicated with my son directly and made him feel at ease with what she needed to do and what to expect in the next few weeks. I had confirmed appointments for me and my daughter on Saturday, but when we arrived, the receptionist said we didn't have appointments. I showed her the email and she said the appointments weren't there and the next available appointments weren't for a few weeks. I left, thinking it was possible that I had made a mistake and it was clear the receptionist didn't care and wouldn't or couldn't help. Today I got an email from the eye center telling me I had missed my appointment. I try not to write bad reviews online but the only contact options are to call or write a review. There's no point calling and speaking to the receptionist from Saturday. Maybe someone at the Eye Center will read this and realize their computer system isn't working.

After the appointment, I went to the eye glasses shop where there were extremely reasonably priced glasses and someone there to help you chose. Overall, the entire staff was extremely attentive and dedicated to making sure you had a good experience. No complaints.

However, fees were never discussed prior to the exam. They had me sign that I received my prescriptions BEFORE I even saw the doctor. When I questioned this they said it was for insurance purposes. There was also a $39 fee for a "picture" of your eye that you had to sign for. Get this, the picture was mandatory but they only charged the $39 if you wanted the doctor to read it. Wait, What? Then they charged $90 for the contact FIT fee. When I debated the charges, they wouldn't give me my contact lens prescription! Yet they had me sign before the exam that I received it! The doctor and pre-exam staff were friendly and helpful, but the billing woman was not, and I felt pressured into their office procedure nonsense. I just wanted a simple eye exam.

The people here were great and did not show even an ounce of annoyance as I essentially tried on every single pair of frames even in the store -- even though that meant they would then have to sanitize each and every pair. Once I selected a pair and worked with an optician to place the order, we ran into a roadblock with my insurance, as another provider had already submitted a request for benefits authorization. Rather than telling me to leave and figure it out with my insurance, one of the opticians called my insurance directly and got the issue resolved while I waited. I was quoted 1-2 weeks for my new glasses to be ready, and to my surprise, I got a text the next morning that my glasses were ready! My glasses were fine when I picked them up, but later that night I noticed there was a very small crack in one of the lenses. I brought them in the next day and Flanders Family Eyecare replaced the lens free of charge. Again, I was quoted 1-2 weeks for the replacement, yet they were ready the next day. Such a quick turnaround time and a very wide selection of styles!

One night I got my contact stuck and he drove in the middle of the night to his office to see me and remove it. Excellent service and expert care. And his staff are some of the most pleasant I've come across, remembering my name, getting info, making appointments. Like others I can't recommend him and them highly enough.

"I've done thousands of them" is what I bought into; for thousands of nonrefundable dollars per eye. Wrong lenses were put in after a 5 plus hour wait on a hospital operating table. How does this happen? The Doctors ability to perform this operation and to identify the wrong lenses immediately were his responsibility. The circumstances were poor at best and the results a disaster. The follow up visit was equally poor. He was less than professional. He told me the office was very busy with multiple competing demands, and a personal family loss distracted him during my consultation. So, he overlooked the fact that I now have to wear glasses fulltime for the rest of my life. At the cost of thousands of dollars.
