The atmosphere is really nice--very chill and relaxing, with friendly and welcoming staff. It's the kind of place where you can sit back, enjoy the scenery, and hang out for a while. One of the coolest things is the location right next to the Volcan apple farm. There are apple trees everywhere, which really gives you that Julian fall experience. We were even able to pick a few apples, which ended up being one of the highlights of the day. Now... let's talk about the wine. Maybe Temecula Valley has spoiled me, but these wines just weren't doing it for me. We tried several, and unfortunately, they tasted pretty cheap compared to what I'm used to drinking in Temecula. Nothing really stood out enough to make me want to take a bottle home. Basically, I liked the winery more than I liked the wine. Would I come back for the chill atmosphere, friendly staff, apple-country scenery and overall vibe? Absolutely. Would I make the drive specifically for the wine? Probably not. Vibe: 9/10 Staff: 10/10 Location: 10/10 Wine: 4/10 Overall, it's a cool stop when you're in Julian--especially during apple season. Come for the vibe and the scenery... just don't expect Temecula Valley-level wine.

What we like to do is get a bottle and enjoy just lounging there. It was nice out but still pretty warm. The trip was cool off a bit coming from the desert up to the mountain. So outside seating wasn't very tempting at the time. Inside, it's the winery which is pretty massive. Mainly their tasting room with the bar counter and loads of seating. Communal tables as well as group tables throughout the property. There's also a second floor which we didn't go up this time. Inside is also a showroom of artworks and trinkets. Different artists showcasing their work, handmade jewelry laid out through the whole place. Displayed items one after the other. This place was happening today with so many people popping in for some wine. I don't know if the event with the band happens often or just during the weekend but it was great. We ended up just staying inside as it was nice and cool. Picked up a bottle of the Tempranillo and made ourselves at home. The wine is quite tasty and nice. You can do a tasting which I believe is three samples. Or if you just wanted a glass that's also offered but we opted for a bottle. Snacks are also available for purchase if you would a charcuterie boards to accompany your tasting. It's very pet friendly as there were so many pups around. They too like to enjoy the party. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Chatting with the people walking in and sitting next to you. It's a good way to make new friends. The place was lively and everyone was there for the same thing. Good company, great wine and a fun afternoon out. With the artwork and all the items display, I don't know if they're there permanently or on rotate seasonally. But walking throughout and seeing everything on display, it was great. Mark & Ian (proprietors) were on vacation, but their friend Carlos was manning the tasting room and was a fantastic host. We tasted four of their latest releases, including a revisit of our favorite pour. We tried the '23 Grenache Rosé, '23 Pinot Noir, '20 El Capitan red blend (47% Cab Sauv, 30% Mourvèdre, & 23% Syrah), and a '20 Petite Sirah. They age their red wines for 1-2 years in neutral oak barrels, and I would describe their reds as medium bodied and very smooth. Bottles were running in the $37 - $59 range (before 20% club member discounts). As usual, we took home a couple bottles of our favorites. As a bonus, they were open on a Wednesday, when we were passing through on our way home from Borrego Springs. I'm glad we stopped. Tony welcomed us into the cozy tasting room, explained his mission, and gave us a blind taste test. We spent a good hour there talking and tasting. Tony made us feel welcome. Our 9-year-old daughter reluctantly join us, but ended up having a good time. We bought a couple bottles and went on our way.
