Went directly from the trailhead to Overlook Mountain Bikes. The store was buzzing with customers but I was quickly welcomed and taken care of. The guys at Overlook were promptly able to diagnose and fix my issues. I fully expected to have to leave the bike and come back a week or two later, but I was able to take my new bike for its inaugural ride only a few hours later than scheduled. Although this shop is an hour away from where I live, I will be back for any bike related needs.

Bicycle Rack put on a clinic for on-the-spot effective repairs. A seat on an older bike was properly repaired and adjusted for the rider, a crooked pedal fixed and adjusted on the second bike. Finally, a flat on tubeless gravel bike was resolved with a superior and less expensive product. Cost was on point. Exemplary with a vengeance.

There's also a lot of of history on the walkway - statues, markers, and small interactive signs create a cool opportunity to learn about the area. For parking on the Ulster County side be prepared to park in spots on the side of the road that are metered or in the general lot. The bridge takes 30 to 40 minutes to walk making it a great morning or afternoon activity!

I have a heart condition, so after arriving, I realized that it was simply too hot for me to safely walk across the walkway. At the entrance, I saw a sign indicating that a tram was available until 3:30 p.m. I was very grateful to see this service and understood it to be an option that would make the walkway accessible to people who may have difficulty walking the entire distance. When the tram arrived, I got on and explained to the volunteers that I was very thankful they offered this service. Unfortunately, about halfway across the walkway, the tram stopped and we were asked whether we wanted to get off there or continue to the end. I explained that I needed to return to the side where I had parked my car. I was very surprised when I was told that the tram would not take me back and that I would have to walk in the extreme heat. I became overheated while trying to make my way back. Given my heart condition, this was a frightening and potentially dangerous situation. I understand that there may be rules and limitations regarding the tram, but those limitations should be made very clear before passengers board. If the tram is not available to return passengers to their starting point, visitors--especially those with mobility or health concerns--should know that before getting on. Unfortunately, because of this experience, I would not recommend the Walkway Over the Hudson to anyone who may have difficulty walking long distances, particularly on a hot day. I hope the organization will reconsider how this service is communicated and operated so that others don't find themselves in the same situation

Designed for probably no more than 18-20 people, at first glance it looks like a big hot tub or trampoline in the River. In some ways it's a bit of both. You'll find it by meandering your way past the parking lot, beyond the sand volleyball courts, and past the basketball court to the aluminum ramp at the north edge of the park overlooking the bridge. Thankfully, the aluminum ramp means you don't need to climb sharp rocks or weed through lillypads to get into the water, instead you just walk right into the little rainbow colored plastic pool ring and land on a nylon netting that prevents you from walking on river mud. On a hot August day, it's a refreshing way to cool off and enjoy the park. You'd think that would make it busy, but in the prime afternoon heat on a Saturday, there were only 6 people in the pool, with a couple parents on the sidelines. Just in case you need a bit of privacy before getting in the pool, there are porta potties and even a curtained changing area. So many conveniences, and all without park fees. A gem for families in Beacon and for visitors who want to expand their stay beyond Dia and Main St. Bonus tip: go on Sunday and make a picnic from vendors at the local farmer's market on the river dock.

Also a playground in the back (not affiliated with the pool). There are always many life guards on duty every time I've gone. The pool is accessible only to Clarkstown residents and their guests, so if you're not a resident befriend someone who is. You must obtain a Clarkstown resident ID card first at the registration office at 31 Zukor Road in New City. (The pool won't simply accept a driver's license.) Rates can be either daily or seasonal for individuals or family, and are very reasonable compared to similar community pools.

On a recent visit it was nice to see that the previous snake-ridden den of iniquity has long been been replaced with a legitimate pool and that the mythological beasts of years past have been slayed by chlorine and actual cement walls. You can even see right to the bottom. What a concept. This is what Nanuet Lake should have been like all along... no thanks whatsoever to my parents who thought this was some tough love version of Shangri La, albeit minus the all consuming bliss one often finds in paradise. I kid about my parents (almost) and am happy to bestow five easy stars for a childhood reclaimed. I still hate snakes.

I went home and researched my question and I found out that it could possibly be lack of air pressure or maybe the frame was bent or the front wheel could have been misaligned the owner of the bike shop never offered to take a look at my bike. He just said that's how they were as if he didn't want my business. I was surprised when I looked the shop up and found out that he's done service for other customers Fixing brakes adjusting axles for free, a little surprised. He charge $16 now to put in the inner tub and give bad advice Misdirecting me to another shop definitely not his, You mentioned you were looking to sell your business. Maybe your heart is not in this business anymore and you're giving bad advice and you're charging for services that should be free. There was a time when you go to your local bike shop and they give you free air or if you buy an innertube, they would gladly put the innertube in for free for maybe aligning your wheels for free, no it didn't cost $16 like you're charging today and giving misadvice for the simplest of questions so yes I would question whether I'd want to buy a bicycle from you. Oh I'm sure you'll sell me a bicycle but if I need to come back for repair or adjustment, I would not want to bring it back to you. If you're gonna sell your business, I can understand that But don't act like you're out of business when you're still opening your doors putting our money in your cash register, give us what we pay for

I biked it in the pouring rain, so I am not a good judge of how enjoyable it may, or may not be. On the northern section, where I rode (8 of the 13 miles), it is not particularly charming or pretty, which is not what I had hoped for, but instead, there are car salvage & repair yards & small manufacturing businesses on either side. There are a good number of trailheads where parking is available along the route. If you are looking for a fairly easy & straight ride, fairly shaded (especially helpful when you are riding in a downpour), this Rail Trail is for you.
