Wish the eggs were runny and not fried hard. Fries were decent. The wings are always inconsistent. Asked for extra crispy and the fry was inconsistent because they are bigger wings. Love both of the sauces but hate that they don't toss the wings in the sauce. One bite will be covered in sauce and the rest will have little to none. They also don't give you enough to dip in. Service was really good. Chicken soup was very good with smoked meats in it. Chicken pot pie tasted homemade with a flaky crust and fresh ingredients. Jambalaya had peppers, chicken, tomatoes, peppers and shrimp in it. Was very delicious and not over spicy. Had the best corn bread I've had in a long time. Our first time at the restaurant. It definitely will not be our last. I had the meatloaf with the sweet corn mashed potatoes and a cup of chicken noodle soup. The meatloaf was moist and flavorful. Corn and mashed potatoes are always a hit. My wife had the Pittsburger. It was well portioned with fries and coleslaw. The side of seasoned fries were delicious. The place is pretty accommodating for anyone. It's pretty wide and open... in the bar area. The dining area was small, but I'm assuming most people go to drink. There were numerous tvs on the walls in the bar area and from one channel that's on the numerous tvs they have the volume loud. I mean, it was so loud that the S- sounds on the person talking were piercing. It's so loud to the point that your ears WILL start ringing if you're there for hours. You know when noises are so loud that it melts into one sound? It's like that. If you go to the bar, bring ear plugs. It is past the point of damaging ears. I did not stay in the bar area as the person I was with has actual hearing sensitivity issues. Even the dining room was a bit loud, but comfortably loud. The food was fine. Everything looked gorgeous when it came out. Our soups (chicken soup and crock of onion) were great. I highly recommend getting the crock. Other than that, everything was bland. The burger I got which was called the garbage burger, I believe, looked phenomenal but tasted bland. It was as if the burger itself was a hunk of ground meat with no seasoning. The mushrooms on the burger weren't caramelized just cooked (sadly), so the mushrooms tasted like ground. No condiments came on the burger which was odd. The table itself only had ketchup, a1, and hot sauce. All three were put on and it still was overpowered by ground and ground beef. Fries were basic fries. Nothing special. The guy I went with said his food was just okay. Servers were good. They were nice and understanding with anything we asked for. They were the best part of the whole experience. Tl;dr I'm giving it a 3 because everything was, at least, edible, soup was great, servers were nice, atmosphere in the bar was bad and loud. Dining room was squished, less private due to it, and due to the slightly louder than average 80's music being played, you can hear everyone's conversations at each table clearly. This place really means it when they say BIG FOOD! The portions are huge. We called later on a Sunday night, and got some bar seating. Its one of the few good places open on a Sunday. Sitting in the bar is the best and the service was outstanding. The bartender/waiter had a great sense of humor, was patient with us since it was out foest time there, and was quick with any requests we made. Hubby and I bith had the steamers. They were cleaned well, cooked perfectly, and were absolutely delicious! I could have eaten a pail of them. I ordered the orange roughly special with Ritz cracker coating and took a salad with it. The salad was huge...like a dinner in itself. Blue cheese dressing was on point. All very fresh. The fish was very tasty, but slightly well done, and I didn't realize that it included a heapin' helpin' of rice pilaf. I couldn't eat much of it because I was so full but took a to-go box. Pilaf was tasty and had a nice chicken broth flavor, and I clouded steamed carrots ... really good. Hubby has the Santa Fe salad with shrimp and loved it, although that, too, was HUGE. He ended up taking a large portion of it home and ate it the next day. Still delicious! Shrimp were very large and well spiced. He likes spicy! visiting home, traveling from MD-where we have ample breweries/pubs-I wanted to grab a beer with old friends somewhere I could try a nice variety of local brews at reasonable prices- they picked Anthracite for the ambiance (&ample tvs to watch the football game)- seated at the outside patio, the place gave a great welcoming vibe- bright lights, nice & warm- cozy grabbing a table- though was a bit dismayed to discover most of their beers on draft were actually from around our area (MD, VT, & well NY-so much for local brews)-but what we had was tasty & reasonably priced overall nice low-key place to hangout, would return when visiting again. read more

My family and I stopped in here in Sept and our experience was okay at best. They had buffalo cauliflower on the special menu so we got that as it's a favorite dish of ours and it was decent, but the buffalo sauce was very weak and wasn't as hot as we would have liked. I got the Middleswarth burger on a pretzel roll (I'm from NEPA and you can't find those chips down south) and it was unfortunately dry and surprisingly lacking in flavor. My wife got the sirloin steak and she thought it was iffy at best and overcooked. The beer selection was decent overall and I enjoyed a nice local IPA, so that definitely helped, but it didn't make up for the food. Our service was unfortunately pretty bad and our server switched up our meal with the couple next to us and forgot about our table often, which was a shame. We came into town with a large party and needed an early dinner reservation for 30 adults/kids. Mike was so great to work with. They pre-ordered some apps for us, set us all up in a private dining area, service was great! Really great waitresses, super nice. We thought kids were a little loud and roudy (2+hours in a car and straight to dinner) but they were super nice about it. Food was REALLY good!! No complaints, only compliments. Wings were great, bbq delicious, great salads ,burgers and nice size portions. I love supporting local owned businesses over big chains and this did not disappoint. Went on a Saturday but quite early (like 3:30pm). So there was NO ONE in the eating area, and just a few people in the bar. The service was exemplary, our server was Joanne and she was absolutely awesome. I got the seafood mac & cheese...not a LOT of seafood but good God the portion size could feed an entire family! It was also extremely tasty. My son got the chicken fried steak, not really that great, and mashed potatoes. His fiance got the crab cake sandwich which was pretty good. Overall it is a nice place, I don't know what it is like when crowded though. But they do seem to have an identity crisis, are they a rockin' bar or a high class restaurant? Haven't been here in awhile so we decided to stop in before shopping. They did a great job with remodeling as the layout was nice with plenty of tables. The restroom was freezing. Chicken bites were actually strips that were extremely overcooked/dry and couldn't eat more than a couple. The server did remove them from our bill. Chicken quesadillas were very bland. Sat at the bar for dinner one night during a work trip. While it was busy, the bartender took the time to answer all of my questions about the different wing sauce options (there are a lot). I ended up with a half-pound order of the B&Bs with two sauces - cowboy and honey sriracha. I personally enjoyed the honey sriracha best, but the cowboy was good too. While the portions at Anthracite are HUGe (enough for lunch the next day) I find their food to be incredibly greasy and caused a stomach ache for both of us. The mushroom caps were kind of a joke, only being three. They should really advertise the amount you get on the menu. They were probably the best, least greasy part of the meal. I found my burger to be a bit dry, even though I ordered it medium rare. The Mac & cheese was delicious, but also incredibly greasy and didn't hold up well as left overs because of this. I was looking on yelp for a good place to eat close to my hotel because I am just driving through. I went on the site and I looked and they had a huge selection of wings and flavors and I read the reviews and they were pretty good so I called up to get a takeout order. I ordered the macaroni logs, a Caesar side salad, the person on the phone actually asked me if I wanted a side salad and then charged me for the full-size salad but didn't give me any of the meat that went with it , 12 wings and celery and ranch. This all came up to $40 without the tip. The people were nice and I know that restaurant policies are not their problem, but I was starting to get super fed up pretty quickly. First I asked for all drums, I said I would definitely pay extra for that. They told me no, I said no big deal. Then they gave me seven flats and five drums after I asked for all drums they give me more flats than drums. That's just rude. The Caesar salad was a regular Caesar salad (again, the girl on the phone and asked if I wanted a side salad and I said yes which usually doesn't come with the topping, but then she charged me for the full-size which does come with the topping but then didn't bother asking which topping leading me to believe it was a side salad, it was not ). It was OK. The macaroni logs, I don't know what that was and I don't know why people think they taste good. It was just a bunch of fried outer shell and just super cheesy gooey fattening inside. I definitely could not eat a whole one. Now to the wings. That sauce is awful, I got hot and it had a nice sting to it, not too much not too little, but the flavor was so off. I just wanted buffalo wings, I don't know what that flavor was but it was terrible. What a waste of my money. Then I get to the cash register and I'm ready to pay and they tell me that the restaurant charges a fee for using my credit card. That's not really my problem, I don't know why I should have to pay your fees. That's just bad business. I've actually never encountered that in all of my travels and all of my days of eating out. It's actually kind of gross. Then, I get back to my hotel room, these people knew I was from out of town, I told them I was from out of town, I told him I was just passing through and they didn't give me any plasticware or napkins. I called up and I said I'm in a hotel room, I don't have any of that stuff. At this point I was just livid and I hung up. Just because people are ordering pick up doesn't mean that they're going to take it home and eat with their own utensils. Sometimes if you do that it means you're at a hotel. Oh, and one last thing, just to top it all off, they give me celery that is probably three pieces and they charge 1.99 for that and a small cup of ranch. Stop, this is crazy. I would never recommend this place. They don't care about serving the customer, they care about the customer covering their business expenses in the form of credit card fees, the wings weren't even covered in sauce, they looked pathetic and the mouth feel was bad. Never mind the taste. This was a disaster for $40 and I tipped them! On the total with the credit card fee (they didn't tell me until after I gave them the tip). Wtf. What a complete waste of money. I'm literally starving after this $40 meal. Ugh. read more

Looked at reviews prior to going ... the food was both good and terrible. Both the Mashed Potatoes and the Cole Slaw were terrible!!! The Bacon Cheeseburger came with coleslaw on it ... had to scrape it off to make the burger tolerable. Would have been a good burgee if it did not have coleslaw on it. Had a Crabcake dinner ... Crabcakes tasted great ... but the mashed potatoes that came with the crabcakes were horrible! The broiled seafood meal tasted great ... Haddock, Scallops, Shrimp, and Crabcake were delicious. Another great stop of beer in NEPA, Anthracite had a great selection and great service. We had an Uber bring us here but the hotel shuttle brought us back. I had the Macaroni Logs to start and they were really great. Baked balls of mac and cheese breaded and then fried. I wasn't impressed with the "red rocket sauce" but the macaroni held together nicely and had an excellent texture. For main, I chose the dozen wings. They were... fair. Served in a paper bowl a half inch deep in the Fu Manchu sauce, some of the wings were meaty and some were not. All of them seemed to be overcooked. The sauce was intense and overwhelmed any chicken flavor that might have been. I was disappointed in the wings. Still, the logs were good and the beer was good and the service was good.
