Anthropology has always been a favorite store of ours. Some locations closed over the years. We have been shopping at various locations for well over 20 years. This location is now our favorite. My daughter had a great experience today and I enjoyed looking around. The nice employee told me about a seat in the foyer when I was waiting for my daughter to obtain assistance with her purchase. It was definitely her lucky day. She purchased the bowls she wanted and saved $10. It's definitely a Five Star shopping experience!! read more

They close fitting rooms 30 mins before close, felt super rushed by the workers to try on clothes. Such a gorgeous store in Upper east side.. spread generously across a large area and two floors. I particular love their home range, pretty well priced for the quality. Blankets, table covers, cushions to name a few. Not to forget the beautiful scented candles In garments I love the dresses, specially long floral one with prints however a bit pricey if not on discount. The staff is also pretty helpful to all the customers. I came to this store after a pretty disappointing experience at another location. Associates there told me to order the wrong size for my wedding dress; it arrived after a 3 week backorder and was WAY too large on me. Like "my tailor has to literally remove the sleeves in order to take the top apart to bring it in 3+ sizes and it will cost $$$$" too large. My wedding is in August, so I didn't have much time to figure all of this out. Enter our hero, Kiley (I hope she'll forgive me if I've misspelled her name!). She was stupendously helpful--not only did she listen thoughtfully to the dress baggage I was bringing in with me, she was endlessly patient in helping me sort through the available options. She also remeasured me and confirmed that I'd been poorly fitted before (not only was my size wrong, I was actually put into the wrong sizes for fitting in store!). As I was trying on, Kiley explained the fit and features for each dress, and noted the kinds of alterations I might need for each. She gave exactly the right amount of input--I knew she was giving me honest feedback, but I didn't feel pressured in any one direction. All of that would be amazing on its own, but here's the cherry on top: Kiley recommended *the* dress. Not one I'd come in hoping to try, but one that she loved and thought would work well. If I'd seen it on the rack, I wouldn't have chosen it, but Kiley's eye and instincts were spot on. The store manager was lovely and encouraging as well, and checked in at Kiley's request to confirm that the size was right before we ordered. 10/10 experience. Go here, ask for Kiley, make your wedding dreams come true. (And definitely try on Philomene. The image on the site doesn't do it justice, and you might be as surprised as I was when you see it on you instead of the hanger. Just trust me--or, if you don't trust me, trust Kiley!) read more

I stopped in one chilly afternoon with a colleague to pick up a gift for my boss. The store itself is super cute, lots of versatile clothing/ beauty/decor options and a dedicated candle section on the lower level. I quickly selected the sparkly little candle I wanted and we both headed upstairs ready to make our purchases and head back to the office. My colleague went first, paid for her item and waited on the side of the cash register for me. As the cashier began to ring me up, I noted that the cashier who had rung up my colleague was now offering gift wrapping for the candles to the woman after her. She had not offered this to my colleague at all! She saw my colleague had noticed and then offered it to her, embarrassed. I asked the girl helping me if I could have my candle gift wrapped and boxed and she readily did so. The reason I asked is because I was curious if there was a minimum spend required, as the other woman had spent around $50 while my purchase was much less. But that was not the case. Selective customer service is not appropriate, and while we ultimately got our gifts boxed up and wrapped, it was disheartening that we hadn't been treated the same from the get go as we were also paying customers just like everyone else. I just want to say that this review is no reflection on the company but rather the employees who work there. I have been coming to this store for a while since I work as a librarian at the university two blocks down. I also want to add how much I love the store that I even signed up for their online wedding registry. Yesterday evening when I was in the store not one person greeted me, not one person asked if I needed assistance (mind you I was carrying four kitchen bowls while shopping), and not one person said goodbye. It bothered me because while nobody tried to make any connections with me nearly every employee was talking to the costumers who clearly live around the area. Did no one try greeting me because I'm a person of color? Not sure but that's what it felt like. I left the store feeling upset and frustrated. Not sure if I'll be stopping by anymore. read more

It's Anthro. The stuff is gorgeous and overpriced. You feel a little judged by the staff but you keep going back because it's totally your style. I consistently find gorgeous things here. I always find great gifts here as well as beautiful dresses and clutches. read more

Psst... Anthropologie has a loyalty card. And I've been a member for years. And normally I get a little discount card for my birthday but this year I got an invite to a party! Yup, that is right! And lucky me the shop was walking distance from work. I arrived and was greeted with a check in. Where I was handed a cupcake ornament. I then walked to the back to the staircase and there were gorgeous jars in bright pink hued candy!! It was a regular ladies willy wonka fest! I normally stick to chocolate but I remember enjoying the peach gummies as a teen. I filled my cellophane bag with each kind. Had a quick taste of the peach rings and they were super fresh and chewy. I then made my way to the bottom of the stairs where I was greeted with my choice of a Bellini, a Pellegrino with a striped paper straw or a bottled water in a polka dot sleeve. I of course went for the Bellini route. I did score a perfect dress for a wedding I'm going to next month, unfortunately it was already on sale so I could not use my birthday discount. I enjoyed seeing all the balloons and the flowers and I even got a little birthday crown selfie Polaroid! Tons of fun!! Princess for an hour!! Thanks Anthropologie! read more

This is an amazing Anthropologie. It is set up beautifully. The displays are wonderful. It has an elevator for all those coming in with strollers. The customer service is great. The sales staff offers honest feedback and is willing to get you other sizes if you need them. Truth be told Anthropologie is not the cheapest store in the world but it certainly isn't the most expensive either. It fits in perfectly with the neighborhood. Very bad customer service here. Came in on a Sunday to purchase one empty. There were barely any staff around. I had to search for the item I wanted myself. Waited twenty minutes in line for my one item, while the one cashier argued with a frustrated customer. The customer sounded like she was in the wrong, while the cashier just kept repeating the same sentence as the line grew. The cashier called over the manager and instead of stepping to the side to take those of us waiting in line. The manager, cashier, and customer just continued to argue. The cashier was just staring at the line doing nothing instead of opening another register.... When they finally stopped arguing, the manager just walked away lol! Didn't even help out the cashier or the long line growing. Terrible customer service. read more

I have been coming to this location since it first opened. It is just four blocks away from where we live. I never had a problem until today. When I came in with my husband I was immediately followed. In every section of the store. The lady even followed me downstairs and began to follow me in every section. Until I told my husband that this employee was following me. My husband was sitting down waiting for me inside the store. Mind you the store was nearly empty. She saw that I told my husband very loudly that she was following me then she immediately went upstairs to her manager. I saw the whole thing play out as you could see where everyone walks in this store because it is so empty. I then proceeded to walk toward the entrance because I was uncomfortable at that point. I saw this manager and told her how I don't appreciate being followed by one of her employees. She then said very sarcastically "I'm sorry to hear that". Who says that? This is unfortunate. But yes I am not the usual upper east side type. I am not white but my husband is. And when they saw I was with him they immediately where trying to be nice. Anthro needs some sensitivity training and more diverse people that work them. Maybe that is why this location is always empty. It's a pitty experiencing this. As I have been shopping here for many years and I too am a designer in the fashion industry. I had a nice experience at the UES location when shopping for bridal- the staff was very helpful, my family came in from out of town, I ordered a dress on the spot and it came three days later. That being said, it arrived with DARK BLACK HAIRS all over it, weaving in and out of the fabric. I stopped counting at five. It also had black ink stains on the bottom of the dress a few inches from the hem. Someone had clearly worn it and/or tried it on one too many times. I immediately called customer service and they could not be more underwhelmed and more unhelpful. The person assisting me said that this is the last one and it is backordered until mid- March. Put me on hold, to come back and say it is actually on back order until April 23rd (one month before my wedding). They offered no remorse, no assistance, and no options. Back on hold... Magically they found one dress but he could not guarantee the quality of this dress since it was the last in stock. Fast forward to the replacement dress; I didn't even take it out of the package, as there were more hairs ALL OVER. One pubic hair. Seriously foul. Back to customer service who cared less than the first person and actually asked me if I wanted to wait for another dress to come back in stock. Needless to say, I am so disgusted in BHLDN and Anthropologie. And that they turned this from a nice experience to downright filthy. I highly suggest brides/bridesmaids to go literally anywhere else to buy your dress. All you will get is a headache, and a bonus- someone else's hairs! read more

This Anthropologie outpost is airy and huge, with two levels and Anthro's new bridal shop, BHLDN. The decor is about as Etsy-and-Pinterest-cute as you'd find in any Anthro, and there is a lot of furniture on display. I think of Anthropologie as being a real "lifestyle" brand for women who've graduated from Urban Outfitters to owning a country house, practicing yoga in their Lululemon coordinates, and secretly loving pumpkin spice lattes. Though I hate to pigeonhole myself into categories, I do love the disgustingly whimsical accessorizing that comes with this type of brand. This location of Anthropologie has a large sale section that includes housewares, clothes, shoes, and accessories (dig through all the bins!), and lots of nice chairs, chaises, and couches that invite you to sit down and grab one of the strategically placed cookbooks lingering nearby. Basically, this store makes me hate myself for loving it. read more

What an amazing experience!!! BHLDN is a fantastic department within the store. The people working there are very professional and know their stuff. Thanks a million to James for making what could be a nerve racking experience so wonderful! His low key approach was perfect for a very emotionally packed situation. He worked with us without giving a"sales pitch" with every dress she tried on. I felt he gave honest opinions and genuinely wanted her to get the best dress for her.This was the first place we went to for a dress but we need not look any further. The first dress she tried was the one. We celebrated with a drink of champagne which topped off an excellent shopping experience. I only hope the rest of the process is as painless. read more

Okay Anthro. It's over. I'm sure of it. I might maybe visit your Roc Center store, but yeah, this location, not so much. I've been here a few times and I'm starting to just think that it's the Upper East Side. The service at 50% of the places I visit is horrendous. I once wanted to exchange an item for a lower price and not only did the cashier look at me like I had 10 heads, she said it couldn't be done. It was her tone I wasn't feeling and for the most part most of the people who work here are the same. I have to hunt someone down for help, when I see other people being helped, no problem. The layout is strange, as you see a dress on a display, only to find out the actual item is all the way upstairs (or downstairs) 100 feet away from the mannequin. Sigh. No more anthro. I've shopped at this store for 2 years , and the brand since I was a teen. Granted , as a teen I couldn't afford anything but the 50% off sale items. I moved apartments and purchased countless things from their home decor department, not furniture but think plates , frames, mirrors , and bits and bobs. The website clearly states we can't return furniture and I went into the store today to return a bathroom knob , and was told by the sales associate they no longer accept returns for anything not purchased in the store from online which they don't stock. I asked them to show me where it said this on their website. She says it normally shows soemthing in the box, which I hadn't opened. We opened it together , and nope nothing ! I went onto the website and nope, it said it was acceptable to return to this store. she said to call customer service , because the return would have to be done by mail. What a waste and terrible for the environment! I called , and the customer agent wasn't able to tell me why I couldn't return it in stores and as one time courtesy was giving me a free label. I don't have a printer , I'm a full time consultant who travels every day for work. Essentially I'm going to have to ask a hotel to print this, which is a total annoyance. Overall, anthro you lost a customer. I'll go to Nordstrom's and buy things there. I will never ever purchase online , because It's not clear what I can return and what I can't. read more

Horrible customer experience. I came here last month as a first time customer. Bought a few sale items and a regular price pair of jeans. When o got home I realize that I needed to change them to a smaller size. When back at the store the next day. I ask the person on the floor if it was ok for me to locate the jeans size first and then go to the register? The very helpful woman said of course and located the size for me. After that I decided to add two more tops as o was going on vacation. When at the register, the cashier asked told me that I needed a copy of my receipt for exchanging size only! I explained to her that I paid with Apple Pay and that I left my wallet at work. She simply said without a receipt you cannot exchange the size! I said to her, if I have to walk back to my job, to bring my receipt for changing a SIZE only and buying more, I will ask for a refund! Why? Because as a Latina I felt judged and discriminated. Love this place; they are all decked out in Christmas gear and just walking in really gets you in a cheery mood. Great customer service and they have my favorite lip balm everrrrrrrrr - Smith's Rose mint. Also they're BHLDN line is in store and they're dresses are gorgeous to look at. They had me lost dresses to pull online before my reservation but then my shopper also pulled other similar dresses based on what I had listed online. She was super helpful and great to work with. If you want bad customer service, come to Anthropologie. I ordered an online order to pick up in store and show up to find that it was the wrong item. So they replaced the order to have it sent to me and what do I get delivered? The wrong item. So I call because at this point I'm now having to go to the store twice which is not easy for me to do with my work schedule. They said that there's nothing they can do, that the store should have alerted the warehouse that this happened so that a. they could have done a quality check before sending the replacement and b. they could look into it to see if it's a communication error at the warehouse sending the wrong item. So I'm now going out of my way to return this item in order to get the right item and HOPE that this time they send it correctly. Spent 45 minutes on the phone with them expressing my frustration that my job rarely allows me to make trips during business hours and this is a huge inconvenience. Basically they made it seem like it was my problem to either get it back to the store or to the post office in order to get the correct one, all without even an offer of a partial refund, store credit or discount code. God forbid they do anything to rectify their mistake (TWICE). Not a fan, lost a customer. read more

This is my favorite Anthro! Aside from how beautiful it is and has the best inventory, i had a small issue with a Jenny Yoo dress that i purchased and wore as a bridesmaid in my sisters wedding. Before the reception event started, the tulle pulled/ripped. Called to let Anthro know of what happened and Alexandra (store manager) was incredibly helpful. Not only did she show a ton of empathy toward the situation, but she also felt so bad about what happened, she refunded us for the worn/pulled dress. i have NEVER experienced customer service like this from a specialty store. While i already shop at Anthro a lot, my experience with Alexandra makes me want to shop there even more frequently. Thank you to her and the team for being amazing. read more

There aren't a lot of places around my work area in terms of shopping but I'm glad Anthropologie is within walking distance! I can stop by on my lunch break and pick up the cutest, little knick knacks for your home. They do have some distinct pieces to give your kitchen or bedroom some character especially when poring over pieces to switch out the knobs on your cabinets or dressers, or browsing over cooking books to accentuate your coffee table. I do like some of their clothes but I'm usually regulated to their kitchen ware and picked up some cute coffee mugs for the office. This is probably the best Anthropologie store out there. It is absolutely gorgeous and pretty big. Everyone at the store is extremely friendly. One experience, however, blew my mind. I no longer live in NYC, but a visit at Anthro is always part of each stay there. This Thanksgiving I treated myself to some beautiful things at this Anthro store. I didn't open my bag again until I had already travelled home to Germany where I discovered that two of the items I paid for were not in my bag. I was bummed and emailed customer service. They immediately forwarded my email to the store management. The assistant store manager got in touch with me personally and offered to send me the missing items to Germany. What I received just a few days ago was much more than that. Someone took the time to include a handwritten note and a gift. It wasn't just something from the sales section that doesn't sell. It was a mug with the initial of my first name. Someone actually gave this some thought and picked something I absolutely love. This is the best customer service I have experienced in a very long time. I've always loved Anthro and this is one of the reasons why I will continue to. Thank you Upper East Side Team!!!! Allow me to begin by saying as a loyal customer to Anthropologie I will not be shopping with them again. This is not a review of their product, but of their customer service or lack there of. I recently visited their new location on 3rd avenue. I was misinformed of a product I was purchasing- purchased at full price only to have it be reduced by 1/2. As any Anthro customer would know, their home fittings do not come cheap. I am happy to pay cost so long as it is not drastically reduced 21 days later. I was told by an employee that these items would not be going on sale. After sitting down to write three emails to customer service I've been stone walled each time. Ok let me get this out of the way and say the layout is retarded. You can really skip the gym if you're planning on scoping out the whole store. Esthetically it's nice, but household stuff is scattered. Having said that, and having gone up and down the stairs quite a bit, every single staff member was really friendly in a genuine way. Wasn't looking for clothing so can't comment on their selection, but their household sections were not as good as the one near radio city music hall. Granted I was in a rush, but I was looking for bathroom towels and they had maybe 3 different types. (I did find a pattern I love though). Maybe one or two shower curtains. A couple bath mats. Kitchen section same thing. They also had kitchen stuff in the sale section but only found two kitchen towels I liked (out of like 6). Definitely stop by if you're walking past it or live in the area, but for household items try a different location. read more

Anthropologie is one of my favorite stores and this one in particular is beautifully laid out. It has plenty of space so they focus quite a bit on home stuff. The displays are well laid out and you can standing at the entrance you get a great bird eye's view of what all is at display in the store. The staff is friendly and helpful. The ladies in the fitting room seems to be chirpy and enthusiastic. Eager to help. The items at display were organized well which made it easier to look around. They do have a huge petite section and a big jewelry display! I loved it! Their sales racks are tucked away in a corner and there is not enough room for everyone to walk around. It can get really crowded and difficult to move around in that section. That's one of the areas that they could probably improve. Another area that might make the customer experience better is the cash register. There was only 1 person at the register so things moved a bit slowly. I am sure that varies with the time of the day and how many people are shopping but nonetheless standing in line for 10 minutes to buy a necklace can be a bit frustrating. Super safe and calm experience shopping here during COVID. Items are spread out so you don't have to crowd. When a customer's boyfriend/husband was talking on the phone without his mask on, an employee was very quick to address it. I love Anthropologie. It is one of my favorite stores, even though most items are expensive. However, I feel I have to be very candid/honest about my experience with them lately. None of my packages that I have ordered online (Since December - two for Christmas; one for my birthday in January) have arrived to me. They either get stolen or UPS doesn't deliver them and their tracking status does not get updated. From their end, I believe Anthropologie should follow up more with their mailing/delivery services, otherwise they will lose a lot of customers like me. On one of the occasions even the wrong item got delivered, one substantially cheaper than the one I had originally purchased and they said they would deliver the original one free of cost and they never did. Customer service tries to say they will get stuff accomplished but they don't, and there seems to be a huge disconnect with whoever they partner for delivery. I wouldn't recommend ordering online from them at all. read more

Anthropologie is such a fun and pretty store to visit, with lots of different types of products (clothes, bags, candles, items for the home, etc.) Its wedding line, BHDLN, makes gorgeous dresses. The products change fairly often, so I visit frequently. The sales staff is extremely helpful and sweet and the store has a happy vibe. read more

I ordered a dress a couple of days ago for instore pickup to wear to my City Hall wedding on Monday after it was listed as in stock. Today this UES store cancelled my instore pickup "due to unavailability." I was supposed to get a phone call back today to update me on the status when my dress couldn't be found this morning and instead of a phone call I simply got an email. So utterly disappointed. They have beautiful clothes but I wouldn't rely on their instore pickup services to get what you need in time. Would have appreciated better customer service. read more

Their BHLDN store has finally opened! I've been wishing their bridal store, BHLDN, to open in NYC but wasn't expecting a store within a store. As much as I love the BHLDN site, I was quite disappointed with this in-store shop concept. There were plenty of gorgeous dresses but not enough accessories, shoes, and décor to look at compare to their website. They simply replaced a section of the store where they had sale items but the space is pretty small. I think they can do much better having a standalone store with plenty of bridal products to sell. In my opinion, the concept of a one stop shop for wedding events is lacking in NYC. It would be nice to have store that just sells everything. read more

I'm thrilled to share the wonderful experience I had with Chelsea, BHLDN, and this Anthro store. This was the very first stop for bridal dress shopping for me, and I'm so glad I chose Anthro. First, this location is really unique. The bridal section is small, but they have all of their dresses from the website, from what I could tell. It was a little confusing at first because it's just one area of dresses and no employees at first, but Chelsea soon met up with us and helped me pick a few dresses to try on. The dresses were all beautiful, low-cost, and fit very well. Chelsea was so helpful and encouraging throughout the whole process. She made me feel beautiful! I am most likely going with one of the dresses I tried on at Anthro, so I highly encourage checking it out! read more

This is the newest addition to the NYC's Anthro locations. This is a huge, two-story atrium-style space. Impressive! As for the layout, it repeats all other Anthro locations. Obviously, the brand re-thought its layout concept and started to mix the things up instead of zoning them as it used to be before: a living room, a kitchen, a closet, so on. The new approach is less attractive and less convenient. Also, considering the *personal*, cozy and home-like appeal of the Anthro brand and considering the fact how much time one spends browsing around the store, selecting and trying on the various pieces of clothes, I would expect a lady's room. This review is for Anthropologie's registry service. I absolutely DO NOT advise you to register with Anthropologie for your wedding. It was a stressful, unnecessarily painful experience. First, when putting together the registry, all sorts of items were added incorrectly. Items with similar names were confused and uploaded as the same when they weren't. Guests were also disappointed when they showed up with the same gifts as other people because they were not properly recorded as purchased in the registry. Then, when some gifts arrived without cards or names attached, Anthropologie refused to tell me who purchased them! On top of all of this, no one at Anthropologie seemed sympathetic to the problems that they created, and no discounts were offered in connection with the registry (as I received with Williams Sonoma, Bloomingdales, and West Elm). I would register elsewhere and MAYBE use some of the cash you receive to purchase items in-store. Weddings are stressful enough as it is! read more

First off, I wrote a 5 star review for the BHLDN at this location, when I had a bridal appointment. It was such an amazing experience. Anthropologie and BHLDN have been my go-to while planning my wedding, and I've already spent a couple grand at this store, on everything from bridal accessories to glassware for the reception to my wedding dress, etc etc. I have nothing but good things to say about so many of the awesome girls that work here, but I had the most horrible shopping experience a couple of days ago with an Anthropologie employee at this location who must have been having the worst day and basically left me in tears as I left the store. I had called before I came in to reserve a pair of shoes for pick up, as well as just to have a look around at other things I wanted to buy, and so I didn't need a bridal appointment. I unexpectedly found the perfect engagement shoot dress, and was over the moon about it! I totally have to mention Lauren because she was so wonderful and assisted me in the fitting room. She's the sweetest, and every time I run into her at the store it's like seeing an old friend. Thank you for your help Lauren! I can't reiterate enough how excited I was to find this dress, and on top of that it was in the sale rack, so even though it was a couple sizes too big, there was no doubt that I wanted to purchase it. As I waited in line at the register, the people ahead of me were complaining about there only being one person ringing people up, and the girl who was doing so seemed to be under a lot of stress and was visibly in a very rough mood. One of the ladies ahead of me went to go find another employee since the line was getting long and everyone around me seemed to be impatient. Anyway the girl at the register Samantha, looked really annoyed with the customer who went to get another employee, and it was commented from the lady ahead of me that she hopes she doesn't get that disgruntled employee. When it was my turn, I got the disgruntled employee. I asked her if it was possible to see if there were other sizes of the dress in other stores (from her computer)? I said if not, I wanted to purchase the dress I was holding. She told me to go back downstairs and ask another employee. I tried to explain to her that I meant in another store, not in this store as there aren't any. Looking back at it now, I think that she mistook my excitement for impatience. I can't explain enough that I am a very mellow person and I like talking to people, and there is no way that I would ever dream of being rude. I had just found my dream dress! Yet this woman totally flipped the situation and started belittling me and saying that I needed to "learn to be patient"---where did that come from? I got really confused as it started to sound like she was scolding me. There was a lot of miscommunication, and she couldn't see past her bad mood, that I was not an impatient customer, but rather just super excited about purchasing this dress and simply asking if it was possible if other stores had this same dress in other sizes (since it was on the sale rack). The dress that I had picked up was also not just a BHLDN dress, it was on Anthropologie's website (I had been coveting this dress and knew that it was an Anthropologie dress and she could see it on her computer). I honestly feel like Samantha must have been having a miserable day, and took a power trip out on me because I was an easy target. She not only scolded me for being 'impatient' (loud enough where the other customers looked at what was going on, there was an older lady who I had been talking to in line that had been asking about the engagement shoot and now saw me on the edge of tearing up and later asked me what happened and if I was ok. Guys, that's how loud this woman was being while talking down to me), but she also said the line "you attract more bees with honey than vinegar"...what?? She basically was saying that I wasn't being sweet, but that floored me---because I had just been on cloud 9 and was trying to explain my question and she totally misunderstood me for someone complaining I suppose. I could feel tears in my eyes welling up so as she finally understood the question and was looking for another size, I told her it's ok I just want to purchase the dress she's holding so I could get out of the store ASAP. I gave her cash and ran outside. It's hard to explain what a terrible experience it was, but imagine being belittled by a disgruntled employee in front of a dozen other customers, when you did nothing wrong and the employee was totally misunderstanding you. It left the worst taste in my mouth, after this store has been my go to for all my wedding purchases. I called my mom as I walked to the train in tears and she said the employee probably thought I was a teenage girl buying a prom dress and took out her misery on an easy target. I've worked in retail for 8 years of my life, and never seen anyone treat a customer so poorly. read more
