    Dressing area

I had mostly a very positive experience buying my wedding dress here in January. Luckily I wasn't looking for a super luxurious experience, because you won't find that here. In the process to make an appointment, they have you list several dresses you're interested in trying on, but I'm not sure what the point of that was as when we arrived they didn't have that information on hand. After walking around and picking out the dresses I liked, we had to wait for about 45 minutes before I could go to the dressing room (still unsure why). Then, they gave my friends and I cans of champagne as I tried on dresses (we luckily brought our own bottle). The dressing rooms made me a little nervous as they are just curtains and I felt like people could see through the gaps on the sides. Lastly, on their website they advertise a plus size selection. I am a size 14-16 and was only given their smaller sized dresses, which would have been fine with me if they had a better system for fitting bigger girls into smaller dresses. I've heard of so many methods people use to make a smaller dress look right when you try it on but they just did not do that. Overall I ended up finding the dress of my dreams and I still recommend anthro to people

BHLDN is in the basement of the Anthropologie in Georgetown. I went there with my bridesmaids to look at dress options and thought it was much better than the other shops in the area. Most shops offer samples to try on and want to clip you into every dress, but it's really challenging to see how a dress looks and feels, and then you have to guess the size and hope a tailor can make it look right. BHLDN has lots of options to try on, and it's a relaxed shopping environment.

I don't know what BHLDN is like on a weekend, but I can say that shopping on a weekday was amazing.

Do NOT purchase your dress from Carine's…read more If you have enough money to buy a high-end gown from Carine's, do yourself a favor: hop on a train to NYC and order from a boutique that actually respects its brides and delivers on time. Buying my dress from Carine's was the WORST mistake of my entire wedding process. **Their communication is terrible.** I had to chase them down to find out where my dress was, and it turned out they had forgotten about it until I reached out. **They do not take responsibility for delays.** Even though they forgot to send my dress and caused the delay, they refused to overnight it unless I paid extra--despite the $600 I had already spent on shipping. **They left me scrambling last minute for alterations.** I received my dress only TWO WEEKS before my wedding, forcing me to pay double for rush alterations in California where I live. There's A LOT MORE I could say about other shady things they did to me beyond what I've listed above, but I'll refrain. Bottom line: Carine's turned what should have been a joyful experience into an expensive, high-stress nightmare.

Carine's Bridal is the epitome of a bespoke customer experience. At Carine's we felt celebrated, embraced, and unhurried. We were clearly in expert hands, yet it felt warm and family-like. Carine was in the store the day we first shopped and her relaxed, easy manner clearly sets the tone. We were lucky enough to have Grace as our guide. (I can't call her a salesperson-- it felt like we had an experienced guide.) She showed us gown after gown with no pressure whatsoever. None of the "let's put a veil on you!" No relentless questioning: "Is this the one?" I felt like we were in a special place, but after visiting other shops in DC, New York and Boca Raton, Florida, I am convinced. I can assure you --Carine's is different. It is bespoke-- the experience is personal and crafted for the bride. We were so at ease. So cared for. I cannot imagine how it could have been a more relaxing, informative, and joy-filled experience. Lastly, the atelier is absolutely gorgeous. Think French salon. I did the homework for you-- the finest, by far, is Carine's. (No I had never met her. No, I don't even live in D.C.)

She was lovely to talk to, seemed genuinely interested in connecting with me, and didn't come across as salesy or pushy at all. Now on to why I unfortunately have to give the salon 3 stars. I was part of the cohort of women who almost didn't get their dresses in time for their weddings. Honestly, the dress almost not arriving on time isn't even really the issue for me. I understand that shipping is hard to estimate, and that factors outside the salon's control may affect the arrival time. Fine, I could have handled all of those issues. The thing is, I can't give those kinds of concessions or that level of understanding when a salon chooses to just not respond, not update, make up excuses, or straight up lie about the location and arrival time of my dress. Over the course of several months, I had three separate pickup appointments scheduled, but Lovely canceled them at the last minute and rescheduled them before I actually got my dress. No one was ever straight up with me, even after I directly asked them to do so, and still. They once told me my dress was already here, so they booked an appointment for me to come in and pick it up, and then called me 30 minutes before the appointment to say it wasn't there. I don't live in DC. It's a huge pain to drive all the way into DC just to have your appointment canceled for the THIRD time. In the end, my dress arrived with enough time for it to be rush-tailored for my wedding. It looked great, but the stress and awful not-up-front back-and-forth with the salon really soured the experience. It sucks because I loved my stylist and want to sing the salon's praises, but unfortunately, she was the only good thing about Lovely in my opinion.

Despite the price that they charged they did an immaculate job! My dress was very delicate with lots of beading and lace which made me nervous to take it somewhere else. Everyone that I encountered there was very friendly and welcoming. Don't think twice about taking it somewhere else if you're looking for quality work!! I promise you won't be disappointed.
