I paid roughly $15.00 last year for the same meal I had today for $24.00. That's $9.00 more in less than a year. The 2 eggs were about 2 tablespoons and I ate them with one fork bite. Toast was burnt to a crisp and hard as a rock. With that kind of profit this cafe could easily pay waitresses more. The breakfast cost them roughly $1.50. Price goughing at its best. Wayyyy too high priced for this establishment, food was okay, almost as good as at Denny's (Denny's sausage tastes better). Everything about this place is amazing, the decor, the food, the service! Ramon, the owner, the server, the greeter, the entertainment, he's the best. Ok ok so the food, I had the chicken fried steak which came with eggs cooked to your liking, and 2 sides oh which I chose the potato pancakes and and English muffin. I must have passed by this place a handful of times while getting my car oil changed down the street. Decided to stop in and get breakfast on a Friday morning while my car was being serviced. You walk in and notice that this location is definitely never been updated but more of a 60-70s establishment with a ton of memorabilia from pictures to paintings to lunch pails. They have booths and tables with chairs. We were immediately greeted and told the area we were able to choose from to sit and then provided with menus. (I am guessing since they hadn't had their lunch rush yet, that is why we were able to choose our seats) It is a hole in the wall long standing breakfast diner that also serves lunch and dinner items but closes at 2pm. We walked in right after a group had walked in before us and we were still immediately sat. It seems like a well established restaurant for locals. I also witnessed a group of work employees who came here for lunch. They offered everything from eggs to pancakes to French toast to sandwiches and burgers. We were craving breakfast and decided to share the eggs Benedict with him and the Monte cristo sandwich with hashbrowns. The Monte cristo sandwich looked amazing and eagerly tried that first with the jam provided. The waitress mustve heard us talking as it looked like strawberry jam and I've mostly had these sandwiches with strawberry jam, but she mentioned it was a cranberry sauce. It did go quick well with the flavors of the sandwich and the turkey and ham didnt look like cheap lunch meat, definitely a 4 out of 5. Hashbrowns accompanied the sandwich and they were crispy from top to bottom with a thin layer in the middle of softness. Unfortunately (Like Dennys) it didn't taste like and seasonings were added. Next tried the eggs Benedict and at first glance it looks super yummy with the hollandaise sauce (I did not ask if they make it fresh, in my experience the answer is always mostly no)... the flavor did not taste homemade and was just flavorless overall. It was not my favorite meal and it wasn't the worst eggs Benedict I've had before. We were able to see other food as they were brought out and portions are generous at this establishment. The staff is extremely nice and meals arrived super quickly. You can tell after listening to how customers are treated that this is a staple restaurant for this location. We would definitely be back and try other items on the menu. Its awesome to see great service hasn't waived at some places and that is probably the reason for the loyal returning patrons here. read more

What an unexpectedly gooood little place! The decor was super cute and definitely paid homage to such a vibrant era. We were quickly sat in a booth and greeted by such a lovely waitress. I took some time and looked at their entire menu.. and found the Monte Cristo. French toast with ham, turkey, cheddar and swiss(?) with syrup on the side. Lived 10 minutes away for years and never went in until just recently. The vibe here is cheeky and not serious at all. I love it because the host, busser and servers all give you plenty of reasons to smile on an early Saturday morning. They keep the coffee coming and make sure you're taken care of. Had to try the cinnamon roll french toast.. it did not dissapoint! It is worth overindulging. Their biscuits are nice and fluffy with good flavor. We used to visit the Adams Ave location often so since we saw this was in the area we were at, we came to eat breakfast. At around 11:00, there was no wait and we were seated and given drinks very quickly. I ordered the tofu scramble and the bf ordered the veggie scramble. My tofu scramble was cubed tofu with a lot of cheese. I figured it was going to be crumbled tofu and I should have asked for light cheese. It was still good, but sadly left a lot of cheese on my plate. My boyfriend enjoyed his scramble because it had spinach. He also ordered Biscuits with gravy and devoured those. The waitress also gave us salsa to go with our meals which I appreciated. Service was nice. My coffee cup was always filled. It's a three because the meal was good, but not great. The Antique Row Cafe that's located in Adams Avenue is a far better restaurant. This location is on Main St. There's a small parking lot and you should be careful. There's usually homeless, transients, or drunks outside. A lot of times they won't bug you but you'll get the occasional yelling, screaming, begging, etc. Good luck getting a table on the weekend or brunch. You'll be waiting and they don't really have a good system for that. They have the usual fair of breakfast food along with burgers, sandwiches, and salads. The service is alright. Some of the customers that come here doesn't like it if you're not on the fair light skinned side especially if your a bi-racial couple. It isn't the looks that they give me but they will tell you in your face. Have a great breakfast through. The Antique Row Cafe on Adams Avenue is far better probably because diversity of there is more accepted. read more

When you first you arrive you think you're in the parking lot for the bar; you are in the right place. The sign for the restaurant is not as easy to see as the bar next door. When you walk in, it is like walking into a cute, old-school diner. There are rows of booth in the dining area with high walls, a giant Elvis statue is pointing to the specials, and the lines are walled with antiques and collectibles. I remember eating at the Antique Row Cafe on Adams Avenue when I was younger with my family. Recently I was telling the mister a story that included something about going there with both of my dearly departed parents and he said "There's one here in El Cajon, let's go soon". Then last weekend my granddaughter had a sleepover with us and her mom called the next morning and said she wanted to take us all out to breakfast and to meet her at Antique Row Cafe. Yes, there's going to be a wait on weekends, but it honestly wasn't a bad wait at all. The food was exactly like I remembered! Talk about nostalgia. Recently ate here for the second time. Kind of a cool nostalgic atmosphere to the place. The food; I've only eaten breakfast here but each time, the food was fantastic. The staff; the people that work here are awesome. I took note at how they knew who people were as they entered the door or as they interacted with them at their tables. It should tell you something when a server knows the people they're serving. It means they've kept coming back. Decor; lots of nostalgic photos, and memorabilia. Came in to eat breakfast today after many years of not coming by. Loved eating here back in the day but today the food was off a bit. Service was fast, polite, funny and amazing. The food had good portions, got the value french toast, eggs and bacon, with extra eggs and toast. Along with an orange juice. The eggs were good portion size but unfortunately had zero flavor. Had to use a lot of salt and salsa. The French toast wasnt hot, only slightly warm, nearly cold. It didnt taste fresh, I honestly think they just heated some pre made slices up. Syrup was watered down, still tasted ok but wasnt the viscosity of regular syrup. My OJ tasted funny, like there was still soap in my cup, left a super crappy after taste. Bacon was burnt. The only good thing really was the toast. They also took down a lot of the Americana memorabilia that used to line the walls. They still have some stuff up but it definitely didnt feel like it used to. El Cajon is running out of good breakfast places, I sadly wont be back here. read more
