    Lemon Cilantro Beef Shawarma
    Melanie C.

While visiting San Diego for the first time, I found this place and it did not disappoint!! I got the Lemon Cilantro Beef Shawarma and my boyfriend got the Mr. Shawarma Rice with Beef and we devoured it within 20 minutes. If you're looking for an affordable and delicious spot in El Cajon, I highly recommend Mr. Shawarma!

Wow! This place is a hidden gem! The food was so good and full of flavor. The portions are huge and affordable. The service was friendly and quick. I asked for hot sauce and they gave me samples of both of their hot sauces and they were both good. I ordered the chipotle chicken shawarma and a side of eggplant salad. Both items were great. I do wish you could swap out the fries for a salad or different side with the shawarma wraps. My friend got the chicken shawarma salad, it was massive, and delicious. I will be going back for sure.

Mr. Shawarma has amazing food. I really enjoyed their beef and lamb Shawarma and we also had a Habibi burger. The venue overall is very wholesome. Nothing flashy but cozy. The Habibi burger was good. Had a large soft bread for the bun easy to eat in the meat was very soft and texture and very tasteful. The service overall was very good and they made really good recommendations. Will come back soon.

MUST TRY! Absolutely delicious, authentic Mediterranean food paired with top-tier service. The staff is incredibly hospitable and welcoming--you can truly taste the love and care put into every dish. The chipotle shawarma was perfectly cooked with just the right balance of seasoning. We also ordered the shawarma fries with half chicken and half beef, added hummus, and wow--the flavors were immaculate. Even if you're full, do yourself a favor and order the baklava to go. It's incredibly fresh, not overly sweet, yet perfectly decadent and rich. This was our first visit, and we will definitely be back!

Was staying at my Brother in laws house in El Cajon and needed something to eat. Hadn't had any shawarma in awhile, so I decided to come down here. I went with the "Double Trouble" wrap which had chicken and beef in it. $17 or so after a small tip. How was it? Double Trouble Wrap- Eh...it was just ok. Like a burrito, but I liked it a lot less. Nothing necessarily wrong with it, just wish I had gone and got a burrito somewhere. Meat, sauces, and pickles were all just ok. Service was pretty quick and friendly. Might be back, but doubtful.

    Very thin bread, breaks apart.

Good parking and a hard-working lady behind the counter, she's the cook, manager, and Cleaner. She makes Tacos and Falafel. Never seen that B 4., LOL The Falafel was just okay, I expected better for $11.00 for a Falafel Sandwich. The worst part, the bread, paper thin, like tissue paper, literally rips apart simply by touching it, impossible actually to hold the sandwich itself. I've never seen a Mexican restaurant and a Middle Eastern restaurant at the same counter, Shawarma and a taco. Like KFC meets Taco Bell. When you do many things at once, it often means nothing is special.

The food was soooo delicious and flavorful. I got something called double trouble with beef and chicken. Meet was tender and spiced perfectly. Everything tasted fresh and the woman at the register was friendly and the place was very clean. Ill definitely come back.

A little mom and pop type shop with a very authentic feeling to it. We were the only ones in there and there was only one person working at the time. The shawarma was good, not great, but that might just be because I am not used to this type of authentic cuisine. My friend and I split a meal of chicken shawarma and fries because it looked big and let me tell you it was. We were not able to finish the entire mountain of fries that is pictured because it was a lot of food, but they were pretty good. The vibes were a bit odd since my friend went to ask for a water cup and the person working just had her reach around the counter to get it and the bathrooms weren't very clean. Overall food was okay, but portions, and vibes were interesting.

I can easily say that Mal Al Sham is my new favorite place for Middle Eastern Food! They have so many great options on their menu but I ordered the Mixed Grill, Hummus, and Fries. The mixed grill came with a chicken kabob, chicken tikka, and two beef kabobs and rice - all the kabobs were well seasoned and the rice was so flavorful. Everything was delicious and the portion sizes are so generous. There was enough food for two people for two meals each. I ordered to go and the food came out quick after I ordered despite how busy they were. The downside is that the parking lot is extremely small. I'm really looking forward to coming back and trying other items.

Not a date night spot -- more a friends and family stuff your face kind of place. They have a dedicated parking lot with plenty of spots. We ordered a ton of food to share. Half roasted chicken with side of fatoush salad, beef kabob plate with side of rice, lamb tikka with side of fries, a large plate of hummus, and an order of falafel (Best Falafel in SoCal). EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS! I personally didn't like the lamb tikka but everyone else destroyed that plate. We ordered a pot of black tea (mint flavored) and they brought our large pieces of steaming hot fresh bread. Service was very friendly and fast. They modified any order to your liking. They also thanked us for coming and meant it when they said it -- Mom and Pop shops are The Best! Highly Recommend if you're looking for good quality middle eastern food with large portions.

The moment I walked in, I was warmly greeted and asked if I wanted a table for one. I said no, I was hoping to order takeout, and she kindly invited me to sit at the bar while I looked over the menu. Right away, the atmosphere felt welcoming, beautiful, and relaxed. I ordered my food, sipped my water, and honestly didn't think I had ordered that much. Then she came out with multiple filled brown bags of food! First of all, the prices were amazing. Second... the food was TOP NOTCH and completely different from what I had the night before. Everything was packed with flavor without being overloaded with salt. Fresh, vibrant, rich, and incredibly satisfying. The waitress/hostess was knowledgeable, friendly, and gave great recommendations on what to try. You can tell the staff truly cares about the experience. I will absolutely be back the next time I visit San Diego again. And not that I recommend eating while driving ... but the next day on my drive back to Ventura County, I spread out my leftovers and happily snacked on hummus, baba ghanoush, and dolma all the way home. From the first bite, it was clear this isn't just food, it is craft. You can taste the care, the precision, and the pride. Every element felt thoughtfully prepared, balanced, and deeply satisfying without trying too hard. The standout for me was the biryani, comforting, and perfectly executed. But everything impressed. The tzatziki was bright and refreshing, the hummus topped with beef shawarma was rich and flavorful, and the ney classic plate was generous enough to easily feed two, maybe even three, without sacrificing quality anywhere on the plate. It was the perfect way to try a lot of their items at once and that one disappointed! What really says it all is that I am already looking forward to the leftovers, which is rare for me. This is the kind of place that stays with you, not just because it is good, but because you can feel the heart behind it.
