Update 12/10/22 - better experience this time. I went with the steak again, which is solid, the carnitas and the quesadillas. The carnitas is good, def wish it was a little spicy though, it's pretty sweet. The quesadilla is very straightforward, comes with two for $5 but honestly it's as tasty. So I will say that the food was pretty decent and I understand the good reviews. The one thing I did not appreciate is how much higher their prices were during wicker park fest compared to the menu photos from a very recent time. Don't know if they were raised prior but 15 bucks with tip for 2 tacos is kind of insane to me. Especially when others charge in the 3 to 4 range per taco. The reason for one star. I was waiting for the pick up order and a server was delivering food to a table and in the process stepped into a dog bowl full of water. It looked like the dog bowl was restaurant property too. The server immediately got all pissy and threw the tray onto the table of the customer over the customers shoulder and stormed off mumbling. The food on the tray actually spilled onto the tray and off of it. I was absolutely frozen. I have seen some bad service but this was a new low. I honestly thought about it a long time because of the shock. Don't plan on coming back here when there are many other taco plances in wicker, let alone Chicago. read more

Love this place. Lived in the neighborhood for years and after moving to MI and visiting for a quick weekend I had to stop by here on my way from O'Hare to Mag Mile. Via blue line. The quality has not disappointed over the years...fresh corn tortillas and several tacos to choose from. I loved my crispy fish (cod) with slaw and the pork carnitas with a slice of avocado and crispy bacon. The pork is so flavorful and has a slight sweet taste. They sell margaritas and non alcoholic bev. You order at the counter, self-serve water, and they bring your food to your table. Cuz I gave this place a second chance the other night (on my own) and it was great! First of all, service was awesome. The girl working the counter was spreading good vibes and good recs too - she told me about their special taco of the day and I was sold. It was delicious. I have passed by this place so many times and admired the cute exterior, including a fun mural and "taco window". Not until last weekend did I find myself actually dinning in. Overall, Antique Taco is a fun, fast-casual dinning experience. You order your food and beverages at the counter and they deliver it to your table fairly quick. Staff were friendly and helpful with ordering. Prices are decent for the quality of food. Plenty of tables inside, despite a smaller storefront space. We never felt rushed, which was awesome. We ordered the blood orange margarita pitcher to split. This stuff was so good and dangerous, tasted like juice! Definitely worth a try. & the tacos? Phenomenal. Being as though this was my first visit I wanted to try a few different things. I tried the chicken, beef, and fish taco. All were very flavorful and unique. The chicken taco seemed to have a curry aftertaste, the beef was pretty traditional, and the fish was topped with a wonderful smoked cabbage. While on the pricy side, the quality of food makes up for it, and we're very filling. All in all, great spot for a casual dine with friends or alone. Very low-key vibes, with delicious bites. My Chicago taco search has been dreadful... Antique was next on my list to try. The service: I can't speak to this much. I ordered to-go each time. There are always adequate napkins and they give you salsa, and the people are kind. The food: I tried the pork carnitas, garlic shrimp, grilled steak, and the crispy fish. The pork carnitas is delectable and there is a slice of bacon to top it. The carnitas with bbq sauce is well seasoned. The garlic shrimp is the least of my favorite, but still good. The elote cauliflower adds a different taste. I am not certain I like the kale with this taco - it stands out more than it should. The grilled steak is one of my favorites. The flavors go really well together and the steak is SEASONED and tender. It doesn't require the other taco dressings to pull it up (like many tacos I've had around Chicago). The crispy fish taco is a welcomed surprise and it is also another favorite. The smoked taste of the cabbage and the spicy tartar sauce stand out. Cod is such a light fish, but still stood out and was nice and flaky. It is a good combination of flavors! I finally have a trusty taco place in Chicago. I've been twice and didn't love either time. Also, I'm not sure what reviews are saying by mentioning complimentary chips when you dine in, as that was not given to me. I am in LOVE. Antique Taco, don't ever change. I ordered delivery through DoorDash, full well expecting that the food would not be in its prime. But if this was not its prime, then what does the fresh version taste like?! The chips are not too thin and not too thick but fried and salted flawlessly. The creamed elote was creamy, spicy perfection with both tapatio and tajin. But the best part? The homemade tortillas for the tacos. They were on par with those I've had from a true, Mexican home and I'm downright obsessed. No breaking even after scooping some thick salsa. Garlic shrimp was incredible. I kept stopping to think what flavors I was getting because each bite was almost completely different. I think my tastebuds were just exploring everything on that taco. Carnitas taco was good. Almost a lighter and fresh version of a pulled pork sandwich. Mushroom fajitas taco was great as well. If it wasn't for texture you could have fooled me and told me it was steak. Also the toppings that just make all these tacos complex and delicious. The spicy salsa wasn't spicy, it had a little kick but it was delicious. I'm curious to how it was made. I got some butternut squash flavor. And it was a bright burnt orange color. One hit and one miss on my test run for Antique Taco. I was looking for a new taco place and tried the two on the menu that by far looked best to me: steak and fish. The former was great, but I could barely stomach the latter. The takeout process at the side window was efficient and friendly. When I got home and opened my container, the smoky smell of the sauce on the fish taco was overwhelming. I gave it a chance, and unfortunately it just wasn't for me: the sauce overwhelmed it and made the fish taste off. It might have been less overwhelming if the ratios were better: lots of sauce and cabbage, but the piece of fish barely stretched half the diameter of the tortilla. On the brighter side, the steak taco was outstanding! It had a very generous amount of flavorful and nicely cooked steak, and a pile of arugula to provide some freshness and bite. The salsa that came with the tacos was very tasty but unnecessary given how much great flavor this one had. So, the best I can do is three stars for this visit. I'd order the steak taco again in a heartbeat, but I'm skeptical about the rest. They have more creative combinations than most taco places, but I think it's just not for everyone. read more

I've heard great things about Antique Taco, so when the craving for tacos hit, I knew I had just the spot! A Sunday afternoon delivery order was fast, food was warm, and everything was packaged well. I ordered three tacos (pictured) and my boyfriend got the Fried Chicken Burrito. We had to order the Creamed Elote after hearing rave reviews, too! Glad we ordered it becuase it was my favorite part of the meal. With tacos priced between $4.95-5.50, there are definitely cheaper options out there, but the interesting flavor combos at Antique Taco and quality of ingredients seem to warrant the price. However, I was so disappointed in my Grilled Steak Taco. The meat was SO dry and chewy, it hurt my jaw to chew through a bite. There weren't many other flavors or textures on the steak taco so I dumped my salsa on to salvage the priciest taco in my order. Maybe it was an off day for steak? The Pork Carnitas and Sweet and Spicy Chicken tacos were good, Pork being my favorite. I'd be willing to give Antique Taco another shot with a few order modifications. She chose the DIY taco bar: Tortillas, Al Pastor Chicken, Pork Carnitas, and Potato & Poblano plus elote, queso, chopped cilantro, chipotle crema, and limes, They were on time, set up quickly, and even showed up with printed labels for each of the fillings. Hadn't been here in a while, decided to return and see if it was as good as I remembered. The decor is casually ecclectic, with a mix of rustic wood and antique items. With long table seating and an outdoor patio for nice weather days. Antique taco offers creatively unique tacos and Mexican food. There are many choices on the menu and I want to try them all. We started off with the guacamole with chips $6. We then ordered the crispy fish tacos (2 per order $8) and consisted of alaskan codd, tempura, spicy tartar, smoked cabbage, scallions and sesame. We also ordered the crab and shrimp flautas (3 per order $12). They consist of jumbo lump crab, white shrimp, cabbage, spicy mayo, queso, radish, tajin, and lemon. I recommend that you skip the chips and guacamole. The chips are nothing special and way too may of them, while the guacamole was good, but way too little of it. Both dishes were excellent, except that there was too much sauce on both of them and they were too spicy. I would suggest that you ask for a smaller portion of sauce or on the side. There is self serve water available as well as beer, drinks both juice and spirits Prices and portions of both entrees were good, we will return here again to try the garlic shrimp and pork carnitas tacos. read more

Not your typical Mexican street food, this is gourmet food on a tortilla. The name at the front said taco, and I guess, since the wrapping is tortillas, that is what they are, but the taste said differently. I have been here before and enjoyed the food; hence my return visit, but this time was different; I was disappointed. I couldn't taste anything but the sauces. The service was good, the presentation was great, but the taste of the sauces was so overwhelming I couldn't taste the food. The balance wasn't there. Maybe the kitchen had an off day, or my tastes have changed, but based on this visit I can't  honestly give a good review / rating. But don't let my review alone deter you from experiencing Antique Taco; this a special place with unique food, and for the adventurous diner, it is worth trying at least once. Who knows, you may like it better then I, after all it's just a matter of taste. P.S. Should I find myself in the neighborhood again, I won't hesitate to give them another try, but the next time I will ask for all sauces to be on the side.
