Authentic Dominican/Caribbean food in Willowbrook. Who knew?…read more I remember this place from a birthday party decades ago. The space was a bit bigger (they've since redesigned it smaller), but the crowds were smaller. Success hasn't tarnished their food. It was a very rainy and soggy afternoons and the place was packed. We managed a table and ordered. Can't go wrong with the delicious shrimp mofongo. I honestly think the sauce is the icing on that cake, made all the more delicious with a squeeze of lemon. Whew! Service was fast and dinner came out at a reasonable pace. The owner is so friendly and stopped by our table to make sure things were good. Better than good! If you're in the Willowbrook area do yourself a favor and stop in for lunch or dinner. Prices are a little steep, but what's isn't these days?

Food is very good, they have lunch specials during the week including pernil, pollo guisado, etc…read morefor about $12-13. I ordered the pollo guisado and moro, both were good and we have a little left over. My partner ordered the pica pollo and the fried chicken was decent. The food does take some time, and servers did not check in too often so I would recommend ordering ahead of time (unless you have a long lunch break), There are plenty of tables, but it is a little dark inside, 2 bathrooms inside. The juice was on the sweet side so just watered it down (wish they have smoothies), but they get 5 stars overall for the flavor and the price point. Plenty of parking as it's in located along other stores.

Let me start off by saying my family was born and raised in Managua, Nicaragua. I've been coming to…read morethis spot since it was a food truck then evolved into this brick and mortar location. I've always gotten the fritanga which I feel you can't go wrong with. The fritanga comes with your choice of meat between beef or pork, though there may be another option I'm not thinking of. I've always gotten it with beef (carne asada) which my family and I love. It comes with your choice of gallo pinto or arroz con gandules, and I always get gallo pinto since I'm not a fan of the alternative in general, but never had it here. It also comes with your choice of maduro or tajadas (forms of plantain) and delicious queso frito (fried cheese). Again, this is my go to and will continue to be. The reason I gave 4 stars vs 5 is because of the gallo pinto. I'm blessed enough to have family who has made it my entire life which is way better. It wouldn't be fair to hold this against the restaurant because of this alone, but theirs legit just tastes like unseasoned rice and beans mixed together. Everything else is delicious. We also got their quesillo which is basically a big tortilla covered with beans and cream and cheese. This was a 6/10 for me. Their enchiladas Nica was amazing and huge. Will def get this again. I recommend checking them out if you haven't already!

Very tasty food in a small family owned restaurant space. Spanish speaking is favorable here.read more

Gran colombia is my top Colombian restaurant in Houston!…read more This place has been around for more than 10 years and they have since slightly moved locations but stayed in the same area. They renovated and everything is much nicer inside. Area is much bigger and modern. They have indoor seating with a huge covered patio and a playground for kids. Over the years their quality, flavor and good customer service has remained consistent. They treat you like family. I love that they offer a dish called Tipiquito it is a smaller version of the traditional Colombian dish known an 'Bandeja Paisa'. Not all Colombian restaurants offer this smaller version. I am happy to share about my experience when I helped coordinate a work event to feature Colombian food and I secured a catering order with Gran Colombia! They were quick to help me over the phone, they answered all my questions, they were willing to make the drive to memorial area to deliver the food. Every single step to complete the order was so easy and received the best customer service. Everyone was very happy with the food and service. I will always recommend Gran colombia! It is a must try! My go to Colombian order : Tipiquito (smaller version of Bandeja Paisa) Jugo de leche en mango (mango smoothie) Empanadas (meat)

Once we arrived, the establishment was bigger than expected. The decorations were fun and vibrant. The first thing I noticed on the menu was how expensive everything was. I'm sure the only thing they didn't charge for was ice cubes. Although the food was okay, there is no way the portions matched the price they were charging. I officially had the smallest piece of steak I've ever seen on any bandeja dish. I'm sure this could be hurting them because of its location and having many other options for Latin/Caribbean food. The service was alright. When we first got there we just picked a place to sit and waited for menus. The first waitress barely said a word, no welcome, no greeting. Looks like she was getting ready to leave. The second waitress was a little more friendly however I still feel like they lacked customer service here. Needless to say they didn't have the pollo guisado, only bottled waters and soda cans. Be prepared to spend, specially if you come to feed a family.

We got a couple things to choose from. I thought the mofongo was phenomenal. It was cooked to perfection. Very authentic to what I would have in Puerto Rico! Although the food was delicious, I'm giving it 4 stars because of how long everything took. There was only one other table of people but it took about an hour & 15 minutes for our food to come out!
