I really wanted to love this place because I absolutely love the concept of blending Latin and Chinese flavors. Unfortunately, the food just didn't live up to the idea. The restaurant itself was very clean, the atmosphere was nice, and I was happy to see limbers on the menu. Service was also pleasant. But when it came to the food, it was a letdown. The vegetable fried rice had very little flavor, and both the sweet and sour chicken and orange chicken were just okay, nothing particularly memorable. The biggest disappointment was the crab rangoon, which was honestly the worst I've ever had. It lacked flavor and texture, and I couldn't finish it. The tostones needed salt they were a bit too soft too. Overall, I left wishing the food had more seasoning and more of the bold flavors that make both Latin and Chinese cuisine so special. The concept has so much potential, but this visit missed the mark for me. Sadly, the food wasn't something my Puerto Rican ancestors would be proud of. Hopefully it was just an off day, but based on this experience, I don't see myself returning. read more

I had lunch here recently while in the area. Michy's is in strip center with plenty of parking in front. While this was my first time to dine here it appeared to me that it is a chain restaurant by the signage and decor. I wanted to try their fried chicken and the prices are quite low so I ordered the 4 pc fried chicken meal that comes with french fries for just $10! I asked for dark meat and they said it would take 8 minutes to prepare. While I waited, I did visit their self serve fountain drink machine. The food arrived in a big bag and after emptying it I found a box with 4 pieces of fried chicken sitting on a large bed of french fries. I was amazed at the quantity of the food given for just $10. The chicken was hot and the fries were not. In fact they were barely warm. Why do you give me fresh cooked hot chicken and old cold fries? On top of that the hot chicken was not that tasty. I have had far better. It wasn't bad but it wasn't that good either. Yes, the food is inexpensive and the serving size large but give me more taste and flavor both in the chicken and fries. read more

Stays busy by the locals and is a place where you will definitely get a lot of food for sure. It you leave hungry all I have to say is that's crazy because the portions are generous. I'm always down for the fried pork or the pork ribs with the fried rice. You really can't go wrong with that. But they have a lot of different options. The chicken seasoning on the outside isn't bad but the inside could use a little extra season that's just my opinion it's a small little place that has about 10 tables But it's nice and clean. Very disappointed in our last visit to Michy's. This Christmas we decided to go with Michy's for our holiday dinner, since I had procedures that prevented me from standing over a stove. We have frequented this location on many occasions. Service is always slow, but the food usually trumps that, so we don't mind the wait. This last visit we noticed a significant change in the meats and flavor. We ordered the Pepper Steak, Broccoli Steak, Pepper Chicken, and BBQ Pork Ribs. All meat with the exception of the ribs tasted fake (almost like a soft pieces of rubber, very chewy-like textures) and lacked flavor. It was a drastic change we immediately noticed being that we hadn't visited since February this year. My family chose not to eat the meat and ate the Pork Fried Rice, which seems to have been ok. The rice is usually the last thing we're left with, but this time it's meat that will be thrown out. I sure hate things have changed. I first saw its ad on an IG reel which showed an Asian woman speaking Spanish which I assume is the owner of the whole operation. As a Chino myself, you won't see many of us speak spanish or come from Latin America. Over the years, I'll hear something about Michy's in the background and waited for a good opportunity to go, but finally I was able to try out this place last night. Very glad I did as this place got packed right after we ordered! This place is a fast casual place, and I didn't know what to expect. Some places turn for the worse when they become popular, but it looks like Michy's stayed its course that made it a pretty good household name. Pricing is reasonable for a plate of food. Most are going to be around $10-$14 which is the going rate for these days. As you can see from the pictures, you'll get mostly "cheaper chinese food" like fried rice and fries, however the portions are what makes this whole place worth it. Each container of food has mounds of it, which makes the pricing for these plates absolutely worth. We got the 4 piece chicken with fries and it came with a very delicious garlic aoili for a dip. Its also noted that they give you a very generous portion of fries with it. We got garlic chicken with fries and fried rice, and it was a heap of everything. The chicken was on point. Another dish was sweet sour chicken and tostones, the sweet sour chicken, was good but not the best, I've had better elsewhere but this was decent. The star of the dish was definitely the tostones. They get give you a generous portion of it and its so deliciously garlicy. I got the boneless BBQ with mofongo. The boneless BBQ is char sui, which isn't exactly the best char sui around but its good enough for my taste buds. They gave me a generous portion too, whatever it lacked in taste, made up for it in quantity. The mofongo was very delicious with its plantain bits and garlic flavor all around. This has got to be my favorite dish. The everything lo mein was probably my least favorite, reminded me of buffet lo mein. However it did give you a crazy amount. I came to this place for dinner and I really really enjoyed it. We got a couple of signature dishes including the tostones, mofongo, sushi rolls, fried chicken and bbq pork and fried rice. In general, I love love love the tostones the most - it's such a good appetizer to snack on. The plantain chips are twice-fried, crispy, and salty layered with garlic sauce, and the dish goes so well with the creamy spicy sauce!! I also really like the sushi too - everything is cooked which is amazing. There are chimichuri steak and avocados inside. The soft steak combined with the crispy topping really elevated the texture. Fried chicken is pretty good too - I heard their fried chicken was top10 best fried chicken in houston and it's pretty true. Don't think there are many better spots out there! Lastly I enjoyed the bbq pork too. It is Cantonese style pork with a more creamy twist which goes pretty well with the fried rice. I like sweet savory meat so this really matches my palette. After this visit, I catered their garlic tofu once - my guests and I all enjoyed the food a lot. A lot of my guests end up asking where I got the tofu and I almost wanted to gate keep a little bit. Decided to come in to order because wanted to try their fried chicken, so it was a Saturday night event and the place was hopping so my hopes were up. Sorry to say, they did not live up to the hype of their clientele ambiance. The lo mein had almost no flavor whatsoever, and their chicken wasn't crispy at all...and no real flavor either. Growing up in Katy as a Puerto Rican, the only Puerto Rican food I got was from my mother or grandmother. There was no real representation for cuisine in the area. When my mom told me Michy's was opening up in Katy - I drove all the way back from Austin to try it. The service was incredible, they are (mostly) all bilingual and have great vibes about them. They will describe their food to you and give you recommendations! The place is also quaint and very cute. Now the foooood. Carne fritas + tostadas have been my go to the past three times I've gone - it's consistently A+ quality. I haven't had much of the Chinese food there, but the Beef lo Mein was very good (per my father's recommendation). This particular Michy's Chino Boricua (MCB) is located in a strip mall a few miles up the road from I10, making it accessible to people like me who are traveling through Houston. The restaurant is well-marked, and in the corner suite, so you shouldn't have trouble finding it. Parking is shared amongst other retailers in the shopping center, but I was able to find a spot quickly. They also have a drive-through if you don't feel like leaving the car. As you enter the door, the signage states, "No pets except service animals." It stood out to me for some reason, and I'd later find out why. I walked in around 11:30 and didn't receive a greeting from the lady at the counter. She answered a phone call and left for the kitchen/back area without acknowledging me. The other young lady behind a wall behind the counter peeked around, saw me, and took my order. She wasn't rude but not particularly friendly. I ordered the pepper steak with fried rice and a side of tostones (twice-fried green plantains). I wasn't aware that the pepper steak came with french fries, so that was a nice surprise. I loooooooathe restaurants that swing that tablet around requesting a tip when you have to go to the counter to order, get your own drinks, and return to the counter to pick up your order. That's essentially a McDonald's or a Whataburger, which doesn't warrant tipping. Add to that the icy greeting (or lack thereof), and it was almost laughable that they were asking for tips. After a visit to the restroom (clean), I sat down to wash my hands and waited about 15 minutes for my food. The pepper steak was tender and flavorful but not the best I've ever had. In fairness, I'm from NYC, so my opinion is biased. The fried rice with the pepper steak was missing the iceberg lettuce that PR fried rice is known for. It wasn't on par with authentic PR fried rice (or even NYC PR Chino fried rice), but it was tasty. The french fries were crisp on the outside and tender inside. When I dipped them in the mayoketchu (mayonnaise and ketchup dip), it was addicting. The tostones were delicious and perfectly garlicky. While waiting for my food and eating it, I watched a guy walk his pug into the restaurant. Of course, the pug was wearing a "service dog" harness. When the rest of his family entered, one carried a pet carrier with another dog in it. There's no way the dog in the carrier was a service animal. It was yipping throughout the time I was sitting there. What's worse is that, despite the signage, none of the employees said anything to them about bringing TWO dogs into the restaurant. I'm a dog owner and lover, and forcing others to eat around my dog in an enclosed area is rude. The rest of the customers who stared open-mouth at the barking dog looked like they agreed, but management said and did nothing. I'm not a fan of owners who look the other way regarding unhygienic practices, and allowing multiple dogs in a restaurant is one of those things that turns me off from a place. I get that the patrons should have respect, but why put up signs if you have no intention or will to enforce them? read more
