Wow, this place is the real deal! If you are looking for ethnic food in Jersey Village, this is your golden ticket. Tucked away in the Steeplechase subdivision away from major streets, this place has gone under the radar. I would not have even seen this place (much less think it was an actual restaurant! ) if it were not for friends who found it. They specialize in Nicaraguan and Puerto Rican food. Just one look at the menu and you can tell this is going to be good. A friend of mine took the tacos nicas, and they came out picture perfect. I got the arroz con gandules, which is a generous salad with fried pork chunks, fried sweet plantains, and rice. The sweet plantains were perfectly fried and sweet. The pork chunks were extremely crispy on the outside, but oh so tender on the inside. It's got incredible taste, y'all. My friend also recommended the Mofongos - which is basically fried chicken or pork chunks. Solid. The plethora of tastes and flavor is so great.

Both the service and the food were GREAT. It's a hidden gem. A little wait time but the food is fresh. Will definitely come again! Gracias!

Fritanga y al lado el quesillo de trenza de mi hijo.

Muy rico todo! El quesillo y la fritanga lo super recomendamos :) primera vez que pudimos comer algo Nicaraguense en Houston.

Very tasty food in a small family owned restaurant space. Spanish speaking is favorable here.

The pernil plate was outstanding -- the pork was perfectly seasoned, incredibly tender, and had that amazing crispy edge that makes pernil so special. The portion was generous and paired perfectly with the sides. We also tried the tripletas, and they were fantastic. Packed with flavor, juicy meats, and perfectly balanced with the bread and toppings. Easily one of the best tripletas we've had. The yucas were cooked perfectly -- crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and great for dipping. They were a perfect side to the sandwiches. For the kids, we ordered the chicken strips from the kids menu, and even those were great. Crispy, well seasoned, and the kids loved them. Overall, the food, flavor, and portions were excellent. If you're looking for authentic Caribbean comfort food, El Caribeño is definitely worth visiting. We'll absolutely be coming back!

Normally you order at the front desk, but they helped us in our table since we were a group of 10. It's a small place with about 4 tables and only one restroom. The girl that helped us was attentive. One complaint is that they have Pepsi and not Coke but that's a personal preference. Food is ok, someone ordered Queso Frito, for my taste was too salty. But the Tostones with pork meat were really good. I got mofongo with camarones, the shrimp were good size, the mofongo was too dry but I'm not sure if it's supposed to be like that, I noticed they serve the mofongo not in the traditional way, which is like in a cup shape the protein in the middle, here they serve the mofongo in the shape of a small cake and the protein on the side. The arroz con gandujes was good and the pork was good. I feel they have potential. The restroom situation (only one) is not ideal though.

The restaurant itself was very clean, the atmosphere was nice, and I was happy to see limbers on the menu. Service was also pleasant. But when it came to the food, it was a letdown. The vegetable fried rice had very little flavor, and both the sweet and sour chicken and orange chicken were just okay, nothing particularly memorable. The biggest disappointment was the crab rangoon, which was honestly the worst I've ever had. It lacked flavor and texture, and I couldn't finish it. The tostones needed salt they were a bit too soft too. Overall, I left wishing the food had more seasoning and more of the bold flavors that make both Latin and Chinese cuisine so special. The concept has so much potential, but this visit missed the mark for me. Sadly, the food wasn't something my Puerto Rican ancestors would be proud of. Hopefully it was just an off day, but based on this experience, I don't see myself returning.

Authentic Dominican/Caribbean food in Willowbrook. Who knew?…read more I remember this place from a birthday party decades ago. The space was a bit bigger (they've since redesigned it smaller), but the crowds were smaller. Success hasn't tarnished their food. It was a very rainy and soggy afternoons and the place was packed. We managed a table and ordered. Can't go wrong with the delicious shrimp mofongo. I honestly think the sauce is the icing on that cake, made all the more delicious with a squeeze of lemon. Whew! Service was fast and dinner came out at a reasonable pace. The owner is so friendly and stopped by our table to make sure things were good. Better than good! If you're in the Willowbrook area do yourself a favor and stop in for lunch or dinner. Prices are a little steep, but what's isn't these days?

I ordered the pollo guisado and moro, both were good and we have a little left over. My partner ordered the pica pollo and the fried chicken was decent. The food does take some time, and servers did not check in too often so I would recommend ordering ahead of time (unless you have a long lunch break), There are plenty of tables, but it is a little dark inside, 2 bathrooms inside. The juice was on the sweet side so just watered it down (wish they have smoothies), but they get 5 stars overall for the flavor and the price point. Plenty of parking as it's in located along other stores.

They offer a pretty healthy menu, but I decided on the Boneless BBQ Ribs combo with pork fried rice. You also have the option of vegetable fried rice or fries (you can do half/half), but the pork fried rice seemed to be the most popular. I was not disappointed. I've had BBQ boneless ribs years ago and have been chasing that same flavor ever since, and this really hit the spot. The ribs were flavorful, the portions were huge, and the prices were super affordable. If this place were any closer to my house, I could easily see it becoming a regular (maybe even a little dangerous lol). Either way, I'll gladly make the drive when the craving hits. The turnaround time was very quick. honestly, the longest part of my visit was just deciding what to order. The sushi station is partially open, so you can actually watch them making the sushi, which is a nice touch. Inside, the restaurant is spacious, bright, and has plenty of seating. Overall, this spot exceeded my expectations. Between the fast service, generous portions, and variety on the menu, I'm already looking forward to coming back to try their other options.

From the moment I stepped into this cozy spot, I instantly felt like I was back home in Puerto Rico. Just like our island, it's small, but filled with a huge heart. We spent time chatting with them about our families, childhood memories, and how happy we are that they've kept our culture alive right here in the Montrose area of Houston. We enjoyed a true Puerto Rican feast: arroz con gandules, pernil, mofongo con camarones al ajillo, pollo frito, empanadas de yuca y masa, flan de coco, limber de guanábana, and of course, more food to take home because we couldn't have it all at once! My personal favorite were the limbers with traditional flavors I don't recall ever having a limber outside of PR. This is a counter-service eatery, where you can see all the freshly prepared dishes right in front of you. You truly can't ask for better service; if there's something you're craving that's not in the menu for that day and they have time, they'll gladly make it for you! That's the kind of love and care you only find in places that cook from the heart. Prices are very reasonable although parking can be a bit tricky but that's mostly all of Montrose.
