Ordered through DoorDash this time around--there was a buy-one-get-one-free deal on some soups, which is what we were in the mood for so we couldn't pass it up. Haven't been to this place in years so I can't speak for the current atmosphere/customer service in this review, but will update in the future. The kale soup was different from what I'm used to. It came with a thick, rich broth packed with white beans and greens. I would've liked more linguica and potatoes, but it was still really tasty. We also got the chicken soup, which was pretty much your classic chicken and rice--nothing fancy, but solid and comforting. Lastly, we tried the fish sandwich with fries. It came with a huge piece of fried, flaky white fish on a pop, and the fries were a generous portion--easily enough for two people. Oh, and can't forget the olives! I paid 26$ for 3 soups, the sandwich meal, and an extra pop. Really can't beat the prices for the portions. read more

If you're looking for quality, Portuguese cooking done the old school, family way, then We spent just over $100 for 4 plates that really could've fed 8 people, plus 3 IPAs, a sangria, and 2 root beers. I had feijoada and my wife had this incredible beef rib dish with rice. My daughter had a steak that came with ham on top and a fried egg. Such a treat, Great family atmosphere. Lots of Portuguese- speaking families as well as other languages. What I liked the most was the wait: after ordering, it took about 20 minutes for our piping hot food. TLDR: amazing food, efficient service, beware of secret pork I heard about this place as a teenager but haven't tried it until now. All I can say is "wow". The service is fast pace but attentive. You do not see the servers sitting around, I feel like they are going from open to close but they work efficiently and politely. However, the food here is so good, it would take the server yelling at me and slapping my boyfriend not to come back. Portion sizes are big depending on the dish. The Alentejana dishes are incredible, literally clams, meat and potato mountain. While they only give you about half a dozen clams, When you inevitably take home the leftovers you can always throw some canned clams into the sauce, which our waitress cleverly separated for the ride home (efficient AND clever). I don't know what they fry their potato's in but they come out so crispy and the dryness begs for a good sprinkling of vinegar to round it out. The first time we went (we've gone back twice in a week and we live 40 minutes away) I got the grilled sardines because those are a rarity at any typical seafood establishment and I Effin LOVE FRESH SARDINES. They are presented simply and with a good char. I got mine with the house made fried potato chips and just scooped up the sardines with it. I was so happy. My bf has loved the meals he has had. His only complaint was that the beef skewers had sausage that was not mentioned in the menu and he does not eat pork. So asking about pork products in food may be necessary. read more

I am Portuguese and live in Texas . So I have none of these great foods available to me where I live, so when I go home, I kind of over do it. So these picture are what , I ate for lunch . The bread for the sandwiches, were some of the freshest Portuguese rolls I have had in a restaurant, soft on the inside and crusty on the outside! The kale soup was good but I wouldn't order it again because it is not made like my dad makes it. Their soup has noodles and their broth is cloudy tastes like potato. The blade meat was so tender and the flavor was incredible. Beside my fathers blade meat, which is a 10 , this was a 9.9 . The linguica sandwich , cooked perfectly, great flavor and was a high quality sausage. The fried sardines were scrumptious. The were cooked nice and crispy but not greasy! Definitely coming back again, plenty of parking in a vacant lot across the street. Service here was amazing . They have a full bar and make a great Manhattan! Finally their Stuffed quahog was made like my dads! Had pieces of linguica and nice cHunks of clam and a nice spicy flavor. I would order all these foods again but maybe not all for lunch! The food was awful and you could tell that it was old. The waitress was arguing with me. The gravy for the chicken was the same gravy for the Portuguese steak. Just plain old beef gravy. Unheard of. If you've always wanted to go to Portugal but don't have the time or the money, this is as close as you are going to come here in the United States. Fall River and New Bedford have a huge Portuguese population due to it being one of the largest ports and fishing fleets in the United States. Antonio's doesn't look like much on the outside (or inside, really.) but I can assure you the food would do Anthony Bourdain proud. In fact, on an episode of his show No Reservations, he actually gave a shout out to Fall River as having some of the best Portuguese food in the United States. I casually knew Tony, being an infrequent drinking buddy in NYC at one point, and Portugal was one of his favorite culinary countries. First off, while you probably couldn't find fresher or better seafood because of the location, don't feel that you have to order it here. The chicken and beef dishes are also equally amazing and filling and authentic. The portions at this restaurant are in one word, HUGE. You really can't go wrong with a meal that will last you that night and the next day for lunch ... and the prices sort of feel like stealing. If this restaurant was in Boston or NYC, you'd have to double the prices. (and probably cut the portions in half.) Let's start off with the exterior ... it looks like the typical ugly three-decker house that folks outside New England probably wouldn't imagine living in. The restaurant is on the bottom floor and inside looks like a quasi-cafeteria or legion hall from 1973, of sorts. Combined with the age and reputation of the restaurant, this icky interior is a sign that good things are to come on your plate. We chose to eat at the bar where we watched soccer on the television ... what other team but Portugal? They also have another television with football on it. The bar is comfortable and long ... I probably wouldn't sit in the actual restaurant (which was packed on a weekend) unless I had to. I had the traditional seafood stew, which at $26 was probably the most expensive item on the menu. It comes with a side of rice, boiled potatos or French fries ... which judging by the size of the entrees are probably not needed. The stew was great ... served in a large tin pan which adds to the authenticity. The restaurant does itself a bit of a disservice by doing this because it spreads everything out ... if this was served in a bowl, the seafood would literally stack up and spill over the sides. There must have been 5 big scallops, 8 shrimp, 5 steamer clams. 1/2 a chicken lobster and 3-4 large Thai muscles. Oddly there was no calamari or fin fish, which is traditional to this kind of Bouillabaisse-ian stew. My date had the Chicken Diane which was absolutely fantastic and enough for two meals. The sauce was perfect and everything was cooked perfectly. At first, I gave her a bit of a stare for ordering chicken at a place so close to the docks but as it turned out, this dish was a good call. The staff here was friendly, not overbearing and ethnic. The Portuguese rolls served with dinner were fresh and great. The menu is fairly extensive and nothing is expensive ... your average chicken or beef dish is under $20 and the seafood dishes are also reasonably priced with fish and chips under $15. The beers also were inexpensive being around $5 for a Carlsberg. Don't expect fancy craft beer on draft. This has become one of our favorite authentic dining restaurants and we will hopefully make it back often to try more of their dishes. Skip the fancier places with waterfront views when in New Bedford and go for ethnic authenticity, great food and huge portions. read more

Fritters were amazing! Tried the cod, lobster, and shrimp. The lobster and shrimp were reminiscent of a spicy ravioli and were amazing! The only downside was that the spicy flavor made it impossible to tell the two apart. The cod had a much more distinctive taste and shape, almost as good as the ones we had in Portugal! Clam chowder was great, and Antonio's claim to fame, The Mozambique Chicken was pretty good. I would probably order it with a side of cole slaw or something to add some texture and taste but the chicken itself was very moist and flavorful. There's a decent bar with some double/quad tables in the front and a large dining area in the back. Service was relatively quick! I would come back for the fritters alone. read more

There were three of us and we ordered the fried scallops, fried shrimp and broiled shrimp, scallops and fish. I regret making a trip to New Bedford to eat the so called "fresh" seafood. First time in New Bedfud and we wanted something Portuguese. Our visit was hilarious. And delicious. We can see why some reviewers didn't love it. Been in business for years and they have a solid local clientele. Definitely not a place where people effervesce all over you When my partner ordered the waitress explained she wouldn't like that. People order it because it has the word Portuguese in it, but it's not for you. She was a hoot, and she was right! We started with the Bulhao Pato. OMG the sauce was delicious. I don't know where they get their olive oil, but I've only had such flavor in Europe. Garlic everywhere. Pounds of garlic. By the time we were done we had sauce all over us. Stains of a hard fought combat all over. My partner had the shrimp Mozambique as a dinner. Sooo delicious. And so much better than the first choice. I had the baby sardines because I can't get them where we live. This is blue collar fisherman's supper. A tactile meal that most people would not enjoy. Pinching off the heads and eating the bodies, bones and all. So tasty. You should go here if you like to get your fingers in your food, sauce and dipping. We had a ball. read more

What has happened to this once amazing restaurant? We had a 5:30pm reservation on Sunday for 5 people. We arrived on time & were promptly seated in the bar/lounge. I asked to be reseated in the dining. We were there for dinner, not to there to watch the football game in the bar. We waited for at least 20mins before a server arrived at our table. We placed a drink order, sometime much later our drinks arrived. Cocktails were good. The bread basket was stale. Calamari app. was ordered. It arrived as rubber bands in disguise, totally over cooked. The fried scallop dinner arrived. The fries were cold and scallops were totally over cooked w/ the breading falling off. Chicken & Mushroom dinner was so salty it was not eaten. Seafood Paella was ok, not hot, and no tools provided to crack open the lobster. Server did not come back for several minutes. Table service was abysmal. The restroom floors were sticky and there no paper towels. The guest that were seated next to our table just before our dinners were served were still waiting for drinks when we left! Sadly we won't be back. In hind site we just should have left after we got hostess attitude for not wanting to be seated in the bar. Instead we opted for horrible service and terrible food. We went to Antonio's last night for dinner. This place is always hopping. My husband had the chicken Mozambique sandwich and couldn't say enough about it. He brought home what was left of the huge serving of the chicken. I got a special of the day. The roasted lamb shank. As soon as she put it in front of me I asked for a to go box. The serving was so large and it melted in my mouth. Would recommend Antonio's for anyone looking for authentic Portuguese food. read more

Why is there not a 10-star rating option?!? Given I am currently sitting on the sofa in a bit of a massive food coma thankful for stretch pants, Antonio's certainly deserves it! We are in town visiting Boston and New Bedford on vacation and wanted to try some seafood (particularly lobster, mussels, clams, etc.). Some awesome locals recommended we try Antonio's because we could get seafood and a sampling of Portuguese cuisine. I took one look at their menu and just knew I HAD to try it! To start, we ordered the stuffed quahogs and oh me, oh my! Heaven in your mouth! I then ordered the seafood paella for one and my boyfriend ordered the seafood stew. I have absolutely no words at how large the portions were and just how amazingly delicious each of our entrees were! Given I've never eaten lobster, I was also crazy thankful for our server who took the time to show me how to crack the dang thing open! My only regret is that we didn't leave room for the tiramisu. 9/6/2021 was our visit date. Absolutely phenomenal place with what we noticed was a lot of regular patrons. I ordered the broiled seafood platter and the amount of food was insane. Be sure to get the rice as a side dish; Perhaps the best rice I've ever tasted. We also got the Shrimp Mozambique as an appetizer for the table and everyone love it. Garlicky and saffron goodness. My wife started with the chicken and rice soup and she said it was delicious. Everything was perfect. Service was exceptional. We'll be back when we're in the area. read more

A quick take-out lunch. This is a better alternative to fast food and they are quick. The phone was busy when I called and when it rang nobody answered. Once I got there and put in my order I was out in about ten minutes. The steak sandwich was pretty good with cheese onions and peppers. For 10 bucks it's a deal I will be back for. read more
