We loved Mimo's. We dined on a Saturday afternoon, and our server was accommodating, pleasant, and incredibly helpful even showing me how to properly eat grilled sardines. The space is split into two areas: a bar with soccer on TV and a quiet crowd enjoying drinks, and a separate dining room with soft Portuguese music that sets a relaxed, authentic tone. The menu is expansive, and the blackboard specials were especially impressive. My partner chose the goat stew from the specials, and I ordered the grilled sardines. We also enjoyed a stunning and inexpensive house wine. Small papo secos with real butter arrived first, which were simple and delicious. When the hot food came, my partner loved his stew, and the roasted potatoes were divine. My sardines were flavorful (and much easier to enjoy once I learned the trick), and I especially loved the boiled potatoes. My salad was fresh and filling. This spot is a little gem. Food was awesome but ...waiter came to the table after 15 min and asked if we were ready to order umm no menu yet. Brought them over and just stood there. we ordered drinks and an app had to ask for drink menu. Waited a very long time for just shrimp Mozambique enough time to watch the table behind us order ,get their drinks and wait so long their meal showed up before their appetizers they just left. watched food runners bring so many dishes to the wrong tables come back get them then redeliver to the right table. Gross. Including ours mine was perfect (Octopus) my wife's was wrong dish completely had to wait again. Finally came it was good but $26.00 for a thin slice of meat and sliced potatoes? Drinks were very good. Asked for a to go container and the check we waited so long we had the manager get it. He brought the container and left. We waited so long again for the check I just threw some money on the table and left as this took a whole 3 hours Ill never get back The waiter from the beginning seemed so stressed and unable to multi task. I just love when I find a hidden gem and Cafe Mimo is definitely one of them. We stopped in on a late Sunday afternoon and found a quaint little restaurant that has a function room attached for small gatherings. Being of Portuguese descent I enjoy finding good ethnic cooking and this place is a winner. I opted for a special dish of the day: bacalhua with natas. This was a creamy cod fish in a rich cream sauce with diced potatoes baked in a traditional clay dish. Served with a crisp side salad. My husband had Steak Mimo. A good size beef of tender steak in a rich flavorful gravy with sliced fried potatoes. Both dishes were absolutely fabulous! For dessert he had a decadent flan and I took Grandma's pudding to go. Cafe Mimo has quickly become my go-to Portuguese restaurant. I have enjoyed their daily and "lmited-time special" dishes. I would like to add another " new favorite " that is also available as a "limited- time special" , Manny Branco Pork Chops. My wife and I started our night with Shrimp Croquettes and Shrimp Mozambique with creamy sauce for our appetizers. Both dishes are excellent and the croquettes are homemade. A crispy outer shell with fresh shrimp and a delicious creamy sauce inside. As a guest exclaimed that we introduced to the croquettes on a different night, " These are to die for!". A great start for our main course. My wife ordered the T- bone steak and I was overjoyed to find that the forementioned pork chops were still available. I do not regularly buy pork chops or chicken at ANY restaurant for a very important reason, " I do not enjoy dried out meat ". Period. But I felt adventurous one night and the pork chops were recommended so I took a " leap of faith". I am so glad that I did. The pork chops ( 2 to an order) are served in a tangy sauce with red peppers that are cooked to perfection ! Words cannot describe how delicious this dish is. My wife was very satisfied with her steak and we didn't waste any time devouring our meals. Once the plates were empty and our attentive waitress asked if we were having dessert, we have what has become our traditional dessert and the perfect compliment to our excellent meals, two Expresso Martinis. We have both become connoisseurs of these cocktails and I am not exaggerating when I state that Cafe Mimo has the best ! If you know, you know. Being in New Bedford there are a multitude of good Portuguese restaurants. This being one of them. Located on 'the ave', there is usually always parking within one block of the area. The bar section is usually filled with loud Portuguese guys more than likely just out of work and arguing soccer but that just ups the authenticity, an I right? The food is great, at least on my experience. I almost always go with a steak because the sauce cannot be beat. I especially love coming here for a lunch of a steak sandwich with fries and a beer. I got a pork dish with littlenecks And What tasted like Jarred pickled vegetables. The pork was severely overcooked the sauce was Bland and the veggies didn't make it any better and I have a love of vegetables but these were offencive on top. I found it really offensive also that the waiter when I let him know my concerns ignored me. I was a little disappointed today when we decided to go get some authentic Portuguese food since we are visiting from Florida. The potatoes were not the round ones but frozen fries. I don't know what happened to this place, but whatever it was it's not good. I got the Bife a Mimo, which is steak, round fries, rice and an egg. The steak was the worst I've ever had at a Portuguese restaurant, it just seemed like it was really low grade. The fries and rice was just ok, more untasteful if anything. The funny thing was I noticed before ordering how the price went down from the last time I was here, but in the long run that didn't seem to matter. Food was just bad!!! This place was my main go to Portuguese spot and has been since I was little, unfortunately it won't be anymore. The service was better from the last time, but that means nothing when the food is garbage. Since this place has done me good in the past, I will visit here again later on in the future, but if it's bad it will be my last time. First time out of town visitor following my hotels recommendation for a very good Portuguese restaurant for dinner. This place is excellent. I sat in the comfortable bar area rather than the dining room and received excellent service from the waitress and manager. Good to see many patrons who were known by the manager. Warm and friendly place. I had the pork and clams alentana which was enough for four people. Chunks of pork, diced potatoes, vegetables and steamed clams were bathed in the most wonderful brown sauce. Flavorful rolls were provided but I declined the rice. I went here on a Sunday night recently with my husband. The waitress pretty much ruined the entire experience for us. She basically gave us 10 minutes alone. The rest of the time, she was lingering at our table talking about her personal life and how she hoped she got a lot of money in tips that night. Mimo has been one of my favorite places since I was a kid. It may not be in the best neighborhood and it may not be the prettiest place, but the food is always delicious. I've been coming since I was a little girl with my family. Definitely one of the better Portuguese restaurants in NB. I always start with a bowl of sopa de peixe (fish soup)! Visited this restaurant for lunch recently and had an overall good experience. We were celebrating my mothers birthday and were a party of 9. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meal. I ordered the pan fried fish fillets with boiled potatoes and salad. They had a nice flavor and were fresh. The waitress was friendly and attended to everyone's needs. We arranged with the restaurant to bring out the birthday cake after the meal and they did a great job of timing it just right. My wife and I are not from the area but my sister is and this is one of her favorite local restaurants. The only knock was the mens rest room. It was clean but a little in need of a remodel. I've gone to cafe mimo twice, both terrible experience. So sad that the food is delicious and at reasonable prices. I went for a friends birthday and arrived 15 minutes later than the earliest people. they ordered and got their food before the lady came to our section of the table to order. my friend ordered her dish and asked to substitute her reg fries for circle fries. She didn't get that. She also really wanted some chocolate mousse before her meal in a to go container. She didn't receive it til after our food came, oh and our food took over a half hour to get. We also got one basket of bread for over 15 people, when we asked for more, we had to ask twice. Despite this semi-bad service we stopped here for my grandparents birthday, because the place we wanted to go to was closed. Bad choice. The one thing we did get on time was our drinks. One person in my party got the wrong meal, and instead of making a new steak, they tried to use the same steak (it was spicy and he didn't want spicy). The owner sent it back and our waitress brought "another" out. Again the manager came over, and then the person in my party got his food about halfway through the rest of our meals. Our waitress came and took our plates away, and the manager came and took the person who got their meal last's plate. After that? No one asked us if we wanted dessert, or the check. We got the waitress's attention and she walked away. REALLY? I've been a waitress and that is no way to treat your customers. What was worse is that the owner gave us a stink eye when he walked by. Don't be mad that we caught you trying to use the same meat from the wrong meal. Never going there again. Terrible Terrible service. Oh ya they charged for his meal. Mess up the order once? I went to Café Mimo last week in hopes of trying To find Portuguese food that's good in somewhere other than Fall River. I was referred to Café Mimo but I am not impressed. Extremely slow service and private conversations were always going on with employees while you waited to be served. I ordered the chicken Mozambique and it wasn't like any Mozambique sauce I've ever had before... It was a thick chowder consistency and was very creamy, in my opinion it was gross, on top of that very expensive, I got the chicken Mozambique and a bowl of soup and it was about 30$. Can get both of those at caldeiras in Fall River for about 18$. read more
