In a search for an OPEN restaurant in the middle of the afternoon, we found David's open and inviting. To start, we shared the Shrimp Mozambique appetizer: it was big (about 10 shrimp) and the Mozambique sauce was tasty and just spicy enough. For my meal, I ordered my most favorite meal at David's: the Special Seafood Pasta. It's only on the "Specials" menu, and it FANTASTIC. Big scallops, lottsa shrimp, and some surprisingly large chunks of lobster. LOVE IT!!! read more

I've been to this restaurant before and had a great experience, but unfortunately, this visit didn't live up to those expectations. Both the food and service was underwhelming today. There was a large event happening in a separate room, but in the main dining area, only two tables were occupied...ours being one of them. Our waitress took our drink order fairly quickly, but that was the last bit of prompt service we received. We waited about 30 minutes before she returned to take our food order, and only after we reminded another staff member. We didn't get our appetizer until over an hour after arriving, although I will say the linguica clam fritters with the chipotle dipping sauce were absolutely delicious. Our entrées came out about 15-20 minutes afterwards. I ordered the French meat pie and enjoyed it, but everyone else at the table had complaints about their meals, the Alfredo sauce was apparently a letdown, it looked extremely watery. On the other hand, the chicken alentejana was extremely dry. We didn't bring any of these issues to the staff's attention, so I can't speak to how they would have handled it. However, the overall service was disappointing. Our waitress and a few others were visible throughout the visit but not attentive by any means. We even had to go up to her ourselves to ask for boxes and the check. What a little gem! As a kid I lived in this neighborhood and knew this as an Italian restaurant. That was decades ago and I haven't been back. Hubby & I ordered take-out. He ordered a cacoila plate and we asked for onions to be added to the cacoila. The girl taking the order said "OK" and it was even on our receipt, but did he get any onions??? Nope, not even one piece. I wasn't too hungry so I ordered potato skins from the appetizers. Now whether I am sitting in the restaurant or doing take-out to eat at home the food should be just as good either way. Did I get sour cream with my potato skins??? Nope. But if I was eating in the restaurant it would've been served with it. One more thing, I hope the owner or manager reads these reviews and actually listens to make improvements cause other than the 2 things I mentioned above my 3rd complaint is that if you package up a meal that has a lot of broth, juice, or sauce that container should definitely be double-bagged. The sauce from the cacoila was all leaking out and on all the other containers, plus I was afraid to actually put the bag on my car seat driving home cause it would've made a horrible mess on my beige seats, had to put the bag on the floor in the car driving home. I would've taken a picture but my husband cleaned it all up before I got to it in the kitchen. Please do better. Nothing is affordable anymore, you should be greatful customers come to you and spend their money ... every dish should be served properly and correct. read more

The food and drinks here are fantastic! Mom and I went for a late lunch. Mom got the "fish special" and I got chicken and broccoli alfredo off the regular menu. Both were really superb. Word is at this time David's has best Portuguese Food in New Bedford. Now if you are from the area that is saying a lot. Tried on Saturday night with 6 people. Came in at 7:45, place was packed. A good sign. We had Resy thank goodness. Had Kale soup to start, was very good unfortunately not hot enough. Had linguica clam frittatas for apps. They were excellent I had Portuguese steaks with shrimp Mozambique with hand cut fries and rice. It also was excellent, cooked perfectly and a great sauce. We decided to try a restaurant we have never been to. When we arrived, we noticed there was limited parking. We were hesitant to enter as the building didn't look too inviting. We entered the establishment and was pleasantly surprised at how spacious and had a comfortable atmosphere. Although, the lighting is a bit bright. We were immediately greeted by Lauren. She greeted us with a big smile. She was nice and very attentive. The menu is large but not overwhelming. I was unsure what to order as there were quite a few entrees that peaked my interest. Without a doubt this is one of the best restaurants in the area. Owner and employees are wonderful! The owner makes an effort to go around to tables and say hello. This is quite the find - a chef owned restaurant that offers the best of traditional regional cuisine (i.e. Portuguese) with emerging regional cuisine (i.e. Guatemala), in a pleasant, but still family and neighborhood friendly environment. I look forward to see what Chef David does in future with these two wonderful food traditions. We had chicken Mozambique nachos (with home made tortillas), short rib ravioli, and chicken Mozambique Mac & Cheese. Fantastic options on the cocktail menu - and good price points on beer and wine. Came here on our way back from Water Wizz today. We pulled up and the outside of the building didn't look like anything special but the food was absolutely delicious. I had the Haddock and lobster special with mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach. Haddock seasoned nicely, the lobster was cooked perfectly, the mashed potatoes were some of the creamiest I've had out at a restaurant and the white cream sauce was mouth watering!!! My friend had the steak with the fried egg and was very happy with her plate as well as her cappuccino. I live 40 minutes from here but I will definitely be coming back!!! read more

There were a lot of Portuguese choices but American and Spanish also. Everything I seen coming out of the kitchen looked delicious. I had bbq ribs they were cooked perfectly and had fries not frozen ones ......home made. I do not like frozen fries so I was thrilled. My husband and I were looking for somewhere new to give a try and had driven by this location several times and decided to give it a shot. I ordered the baked stuffed fish with lobster sauce, side Cesar salad and sweet potato fries. My husband ordered the octopus. Though my husband said the octopus was cooked well the plate was full of mostly potatoes very little octopus! My salad was simple and though the dressing was good the lettuce was going bad and browning! My fish was definitely not good! I took one bite and knew something was very off! Thinking it might have just been the very watery sauce it was plated on I took a few more bites. Thankfully I only ate three bites of it and simply ate my fries (being the only good part of my dish!!!) I was sick with food poisoning all night and into the next day!!! My wife got the paella and I got the alentejana. They were both extremely flavorful and generous in portion. I would've given 4 stars had my meal not been so gritty with sand. The little necks were fresh but waaaay too sandy, as it even was gritty when just eating the pork or potatoes. I guess they didn't clean the clams the way I would have if I were cooking at home. I know as a restaurant they do a lot more cooking and so preparing the clams to that extent might be prohibitive, but my meal was kinda spoiled because of this one issue. read more

My wife and I went to David's for an early dinner on a Saturday. We sat at the bar because there were many people waiting for tables. Bar stools were uncomfortable and not correct height for eating. We both had a a soup and entree as well as a couple of drinks. Soup was outstanding, my dinner, pork alentjana, was very good, my wife's chicken marsala was excellent and she commented on how perfectly the vegetable sides were made. I found the service very friendly but a bit spastic. I will be definitely returning, don't mind, friendly spastic, especially with quality food. read more

I had the pleasure to eat at David's tonight and I can honestly say that I was not disappointed. I had the kale soup to start and it was delicious! This soup had the perfect amount of linguica to kale ratio and the orzo in there was just an amazing touch. Then, for my meal I had the Portuguese Steak. This steak was cooked to my preference (medium rare) perfectly! This hardly ever happens and the gravy over the steak mixed with the rice was absolutely out of the world and delicious. I had asked our server, Brian, to swap out the fries for veggies and it was accepted with pleasure. To finish my friends and I had a cappuccino and we cannot wait to return. Tried out this new place the other night, was very disappointed in the drink quality. Bartenders acted like they couldn't be bothered by my presence and were very ignorant. I was only able to take 2 sips of my red wine which tasted like it had been left open and uncorked for months. I quickly realized this dive bar wasn't for me and wasn't willing to try the food.
