Suddenly, after exploring St. Cloud, MN--a city that isn't particularly charming but where you can stroll around and see a few sights--you wander about and suddenly step into a place that I'd call enchanted if it weren't for the fact that there are no fairies or elves. It's home to the beautiful, calm, and peaceful Sauk River. Geese, ducks, ducklings, and a garden to enjoy the view of the river. Inside, there's a warm, welcoming, and hospitable atmosphere. Jaclin is very friendly and professional. The family had a great time, and the geese were happy since we gave them some snacks. Overall good experience! We went later on a Wednesday night and there were more than enough tables open to get seated right away! The popover was the star of the show with its giant size and a delish honey butter paired with it. The moonshine sirloin was flavorful and I definitely would get it again. The duck breast was not my favorite and honestly, I was expecting more for the price and after it was talked up to be a favorite. But overall I'd love to come again in the summer when the weather is nice and I can see the river! read more

This place has gone way down. It's not the same As it was a few years ago. Ordered steak and it has no flavor and the boil shrimp was gross also no taste at all. Absolutely fantastic! I went here with family for a birthday celebration and we had a party of 8. We had an earlier dinner at around 4:30 PM and the restaurant was pretty dead but by the time we left it definitely filled up! I saw other reviews complain about service but our waitress was amazing! Maybe because it was not as busy, just something to keep in mind! I have zero complaints about the food, actually quite the opposite- the food was an absolute 10/10 and I can't imagine ever getting something here that is not delicious. Everyone at our table was thrilled with their entrees. Each entree comes with a 'house roll' and they are huge! Definitely not what I expected since I do prefer savory bread with salted butter, but these rolls were slightly sweet and had a creamy butter they were served with. They were not the greatest rolls I've had in my life but very tasty! My boyfriend and I each ordered a pasta entree and let me tell you, the Cajun pasta was incredible! My mom is from the south and she makes an amazing version but this was the best I have ever had in a restaurant. The pasta had shrimp, sausage, and chicken and a delicious creamy sauce that had a little bit of heat. I will absolutely get this again if I am in the area! My boyfriend's dish was the Gouda chicken pasta and it was also quite good. Not as good as mine, in my humble opinion, but that pasta also had an addictive creamy sauce with a strong note of cheesy goodness! If you love gouda you would love this, just needs a tish more salt for me. Overall, a wonderful experience and such a sweet location. My siblings and I were in St Cloud for a family event. We needed to eat. We are from New England where the racism is silent and hidden. Not so the waitress at this restaurant. Another in our group had one of the old fashioneds and he said it was quite strong. We ordered mussels for an appetizer and they were great. The popovers were also good. Our main meals were steak Oscar, sirloin, and ahi tuna. The sirloin was cooked as ordered (medium rare) and tasted good. The Steak Oscar was also ordered medium rare but came a bit more cooked than that, and was tough. The Ahi tuna was good. Asparagus was cooked perfectly. My wife's sister had her retirement dinner at Anton's. Any excuse to go to Anton's, is a good excuse. The restaurant is on the river. At the time of writing this review though, it is in the river. :'-( Every couple of years the river gets so high, that it floods the restaurant. We got our feet wet leaving the restaurant. Anton's changes their menu yearly, keeping their seafood, steak and pasta dishes always delicious. The one menu item that is included in nearly every meal though, is their Popover with Honey Butter. This bread delight is as addicting as Red Lobster's cheese biscuits. Tonight I went with the Cajun Pasta, with a medley of steak, chicken and shrimp. Absolutely delicious. My daughter's cheeseburger was cooked perfectly medium, and for a unique change, she finished her burger. My wife had a fancy Steak Raspberry Salad, which she found delicious and healthy. I will happily drive an hour to eat here. The food and atmosphere is always a delight. read more

This place is adorable. It appears to have once been a speakeasy, and if it wasn't, they fooled me. They have all kinds of fun wall decor. And this place is huge. It seemed that the rooms with seating were never ending, and I never made it to the upstairs seating area. When the weather is warm, they have an upstairs patio/porch seating area as well that looks over the water. They have these neat tables that look like buggy's pulled behind horses as well as regular tables. Our server was Lisa and she was great! She was friendly, helpful, and attentive. They do have a smaller menu. Many items have shrimp or another seafood incorporated. Almost all entrees come with a popover served with honey butter. We each had the ribeye with the august in potatoes. Steak was cooked to perfection at medium rare. The potatoes had an amazing flavor but could have been cooked a little longer. My husband had a two day meeting "downtown" St. Cloud so I came with to "explore" the city. Well, my first fine adventure was to enjoy St. Cloud's Lake George-take a walk around it... the local Rotary Club I have heard has done an amazing job with helping promote summer concerts here which as a result has given people a reason to come into the city. Shoot... I got a bit off track. Sorry I'm just going to say that I also like to research local places and supper clubs before my husband and I travel. My husband and I tried out Anton's Thursday mid day for a quick beverage and Nancie and the rest of the staff were super friendly and shared with us the dinner menu and welcomed us to return for dinner. We did just that. Drinks great, Husband liked the ribs and I ordered the sirloin Oscar medium rare... it came pretty light pink.. I ate around the edges and then asked Gabrielle our server if she could have the chef put it back on the grill for a few minutes before I had them box it up to take with. "No problem" she said. ... . Stopped in with the Wife on a Friday around 5. Not many cars in the parking lot and the building is not much to look at. But like they say don't judge the restaurant by the parking lot! Or something like that. Food: we started with shrimp/artichoke dip and is was very good. For the main course we both ordered steaks. I have the ribeye and the wife had the New York with mushrooms. Both had the Asiago potatoes. All the food was extremely good. Our server was very polite and helpful. She recommended the steak to my better half. What really sets this place apart is the ambiance. Our booth had a covered wagon feel. Felt like the Dutton's in 1883. Very quiet for a late afternoon date. The 4 stars for this place is right on. I would definitely recommend Anton's and we will more than likely be back when we are in the St. Cloud area. read more

Maybe the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. Four went for dinner celebrating a bday. First of all, the mixed drinks were weak for all. One person asked for an additional tall beer later on and what came was a medium sized mug. Appetizers of muscles and stuffed mushrooms were fair as the muscles were somewhat small and the stuffed mushrooms were presented as a mushroom cap with a scoop of Thanksgiving stuffing on it. Not sure how many there were, maybe 3-4, since they were drenched in a lot of sauce. The main courses were fair at best. My walleye was small. When I asked for tartar sauce, it took 10-15 minutes to get it leaving my fish somewhat tepid to eat. My wife had Steak Oscar and it was horrible. The steak was tough and it had an unusual flavor. The crab on the steak was cold and had an odd grey appearance. The brussel sprouts were overcooked and soggy laying in a bed of bacon with some blue cheese crumbles on top - inedible. The third had stuffed shrimp and received 5 shrimp with 5 scoops of stuffing laying on them that was supposed to include seafood. The last meal was satisfactory. You would think that we should discuss the Steak Oscar meal with the waitress. Not possible. The waitress never came back after delivering the food to check on us, to see how we were enjoying the food, or to see if we needed more drinks. Nothing!! Two other waitresses working the room were in and out several times but our waitress never came back to check on us. She did return about 20 minutes later at the end of the meal asking if we wanted anything else. Yes! The check so we can get out of there. (It wasn't worth complaining at this point and further spoiling the bday dinner.) Not only was the food and service bad, but the meals were overpriced especially the appetizers and watered down drinks. The only thing that we really liked was the rustic log cabin ambiance. When we went to leave from the back of the restaurant, it was empty. So, why was our waitress absent for so long? Needless to say, we will not be returning. read more

Hands down, probably the worst restaurant food in Saint Cloud. Everything is frozen food, and they can't even get that right. Let alone asparagus, come on.. Butter, salt pepper, easy. First restuarant that I wasn't even able to eat vegetables. $30+ for halibut that 100% looked like it was cooked out of a box, tasted like a microwave meal, and the center was cold. Microwaved. 86 it. I would be curious to go back into the kitchen, Gordon Ramsey would shut this place down for good. The owners should have taken the insurance flood money and ran. Your sauces do not pair with anything, fire your chef, and change your menu. People don't come and pay out the arse for frozen food that we can cook better at home. $110 for 2 and tasted like shyte. Popovers and wait staff were literally the only plus. Shut it down or go fresh food with a new chef. P.s. I don't write any reviews. Great, history laden restaurant with river views. As you walk around the restaurant there is a fake horse that you can pet and it's the smartest horse I've ever met and when you pet it it talks you. Somehow the horse knows where you're from. Walk to the back of the restaurant where you get a beautiful view of the river, ducks and the geese. You can enter the restaurant from the back or front and head to the bar and have a quick cocktail while you wait for your table. What I like about the restaurant most of the history and the stories that you can learn just from talking to the staff and the owners. The craft beer selection is pretty impressive and the attention to detail and customer service separates this restaurant from many others. Also there is so much to look at in the restaurant with impressive antiques, historical features and artifacts make a eye pleasing display. The food was delicious and pretty well priced. I saw there's a second floor screen porch that allows you to eat outside and view river. I also like the fact that when you wanted to try a beer that you've never had they'll give you a free tasting of as many of the beers as you want until you find one that you like. Try the Minnesota Wild for dinner, it's delicious with wild blueberries, maple syrup and wild rice. It's definitely an awesome place to eat or just come for a drink. read more

Really quirky and cute inside, unless you're sat in the back room. FYI parents of picky kids- there's no kids menu and not much variety on the menu in general. Chicken flatbread pizza was good, so was the lobster Mac and cheese. Popovers were burnt, however "free". My salmon was just meh. Disappointing Brussels sprouts- like the cook tossed some fake bacon and blue cheese without broiling the top and was done. I'd maybe return in the summer for the view, but the food is definitely not worth the price. read more

The ambience is without comparison in central Minnesota. It's got charm, a beautiful river view, and easy access. Many of the waitstaff have been there for years. The popovers are a must: if you're ordering something that doesn't include one, you're doing it wrong. It's known for fish but I'm a fan of the steaks. Reasonably priced too. read more

Let me start by saying the service is amazing, and the food tasted good. My order was a shrimp artichoke chicken sandwich and a soup, as i said the food tasted good but the sandwich was small. The chicken breast, which i was told is supposed to be a full chicken breast, was tiny and thin and me reading shrimp in the name of the sandwich i assumed ill be getting a couple of pieces on the sandwich but it literally was one piece that was also tiny. The soup was phenomenal, it tasted like home cooked soup not made in a restaurant kitchen. read more

What a delight! One of our bicycling group recommended this spot after a bike ride on the Lake Wobegon Trail (only 4 miles from the Lake Wobegon Visitor Center in St. Joseph). They not only accommodated our large group, they made the experience enjoyable! We were given our own huge table & room in an area of the restaurant that did not disturb other diners (for that alone-thank you!). Our mature but very savvy waitress was hilarious-she serviced the ENTIRE group solo without screwing anything up...well except one ignorant dude who said potato chips instead of their delicious au gratin potatoes which he totally appreciated once he tasted their home au gratins! I'm kinda thinking she was right about that though. The food was excellent. I had the Chicken Almond Stuffed Popover (well it was in the SALAD part of the menu)-they had me at popover. The Ahi Tuna was grilled perfectly and just melted in your mouth. Yes, it was a little more expensive that fast food but the ambience and Sauk River scenery made it a good value. read more

Came here for dinner with Coworkers and we were all starving. We all ordered seafood ( Orange roughy, walleye and shrimp) with Monster Mash flatbread for appetizer. All the entrees come with a very HUGE popover. We shouldn't have ordered the flat bread although it was pretty tasty and interesting. The flat bread had slices of beef sirloin, pork belly, big dices of potatoes, sour cream and tons of cheese. It was very interesting and tasted pretty good. Service was good and food came out pretty quick. Will probably come back here again during when I'm back in St. Cloud. read more

Went here for a birthday dinner for my significant other, and to say the least i will not being going back. I am not the type to write a review but i think people should know what kind of restaurant they are going to. We heard in advance it was expensive but went into it hoping for a nice steakhouse dinner that would be special. First off, we got out in a small booth with little room. Secondly, this may or may not matter to others but their pop is not on a tap and you pay for every single one you drink, and i find that obscured because the price of the food already. The menu is very limited and not much offered without sea food primarily one it which was not expected. I ordered the BBQ chicken sandwich, and there is little detailing to what to expect on the menu about items, AND there is no fries offered here and only serve potato chips, which is crazy for the price your paying, and was very disappointing and you would thing a steakhouse would be high enThe bun was not your typical bun and was cold and the cheese and onions look like it just got slapped on. My significant other got the bacon mac and cheese, and it came out barely warm with barely any bacon and was not worth 18$. I just don't think this restaurant is special and the food was horrible. Otherwise our server was nice, and that was probably the only thing. I will not be coming back. read more

The Halibut is a new recipe. You need to try it out. Potato-crusted Halibut over a bed of Blue berries and mushrooms. The combination is an extremely pleasant and satisfying meal. We also had the "shrimp flatbread" off the appetizer menu, again this is a new item that is served quickly and helps to prepare you for the entree. It is nice to refresh the menu specially with items as good as those. Prices are very reasonable and the atmosphere is unique to Anton's. read more

Anton's, I'm happy to say, was BOTH! The staff, food, ambiance, service, parking, and more was excellent across the board! My whole meal (salad, stuffed shrimp, ahi tuna, bread, loaded mashed potatoes, and 1/2 bottle of wine - with tip) was $50 - Very worth it for the excellent service, view from the upstairs screened deck, and experience I received. I've been in St. Cloud for not even a day, and Anton's is the first restaurant my girlfriend took me to. We got there around 4pm for lunch (hey, I'm from Vegas, what do you expect) and discovered it was happy hour. The hostess sat us on the upstairs deck overlooking the lake, and we ordered a couple beers. One beer was on special, and our waitress mistakenly thought it was all beers. She made up for her error by bringing us an extra popover with our food. I've never had a popover before, but it was this delicious eggy-bread concoction served with honey butter. I can now see why my girlfriend recommended I got my own, so the extra one wasn't put to waste. We also ordered a half price blackened chicken pizza, which came with onions and goat cheese on it, and a half price order of crab cakes that were heavy on the crab. The food was delicious, the prices were low, the service was great, and we had a nice view to boot. What more could you ask for? read more

This is now my fave restaurant in St. Cloud. Came for a business dinner. The popover bread is uh-maze-ing. Crispy on the outside, light and airy, yet moist on the inside. I've had something similar at the Neiman Marcus restaurant in Honolulu, and this was just as good. For my main entrée I had the ribeye which was cooked perfectly. Very juicy. It may have been the company that I was with. It may have been that I was hungry for comfortable and genuinely NICE places like this that just don't exist in Los Angeles. But I love this place. I love this place so much I want to keep it a secret, but given the population of Waite Park, I'll risk it. This is the spot that my lovely local friends chose for our last night in Minnesota. I had the Walleye (the state fish, doncha know) which came with awesome fresh baked popovers (I took one back home to LA for my man), a salad, and a side dish (I chose au gratin potatoes which I couldn't finish on the spot so I nibbled on it the whole plane ride home). I love that they didn't over salt ANYTHING, and everything was delicious! This is something that is impossibly hard to come by! We ate on a deck from which you can get a beautiful view of the river, the lush greenery, and the occasional kayaker. The staff was friendly, helpful, and informative - the avatar of Minnesota Nice.
