My wife and I were in town from San Francisco for a wedding and we ate at Anya the night we arrived. It was a fantastic meal! We started with the Tokyo nachos and mussels (daily special - broth was flavored with Indian spices). Both were fantastic - we especially enjoyed the mussels. For our entrees, we ordered the beef wellington and the rack of lamb. Again, both were phenomenal, but the rack of lamb was the star in my opinion. There was plenty of meat, it was extremely tender, and it was cooked to medium-rare perfection. The cocktail menu was impressive as well - great combination of uniqueness and familiarity. We ordered the amante picante and the smoked Manhattan at the start of our meal. We particularly enjoyed the amante picante so we ordered that for our second round. I'm forgetting our waiter's name, but he provided excellent service that added to our overall enjoyment (originally from Tahoe/CA which made for fun convo!). He knew the menu inside and out and made some great recommendations. Highly recommend overall! We would return in a heartbeat if we're ever in town again. read more

Went to dinner to celebrate our anniversary. The decor and ambiance are gorgeous, the food was excellent, and the service was great! There was a small snack plate to start, delicious rolls, we decided to share a Caesar salad and they were kind enough to split it on 2 plates -it was quite possibly the best Caesar salad I've ever had & I didn't think you could improve on a basic Caesar. I got the beef Wellington -it was cooked perfectly and the serving size was just right, only issue was there was just a bit too much bread to the amount of beef. My husband got the stuffed shrimp and risotto which he liked and couldn't quite finish the 3rd shrimp-very filling. The seasonal drinks were great and loved my crème brûlée dessert & my husband said the PB torte (really a parfait) was delish. Boston level dining in the boonies. We had a great meal last night at Anya. Ever since moving to the woods, fine dining has eluded us. This restaurant was an experience. The service was spot on. The chefs amuse bouche was a nice touch and the food was spectacular. My wife and I split two of the chefs specials. The Black Hog pork chop was one of the best I've ever had. The chef came out and explained it is basically the "wagu" of pork. The duck breast with wild berry gastrique was cooked to perfection. For dessert, the Soufle was awesome while the cheesecake was good but paled in comparison. The drinks were well balanced and the piano man did a decent job keeping us entertained. Dinner for 2 with 2 drinks each came in at ~$250 which was pretty on par for what I'd expect to pay for this meal in the city. We'll be back. read more

I have been to Anya a few times. I had the most disappointing experience yesterday and was embarrassed in front of my friends because the service was so bad. We had to flag down our waitress as she was not around most of the time. Empty water glasses, no drinks offered, bread basket brought after we were done with appetizers and had empty glasses... the server did not checking in with us at all. No manager on premises either. I expect more from a restaurant where a dinner for 4 costs $600. It may be acceptable at some diner, but not in a place that claims to be fine dining. The ambience in the second dining room was also bad. Too much light, food service prep room look, no ambiance really. Food was just OK. We liked some dishes like scallops and beef Wellington, but not the rack of lamb, which was way too small to have a price tag of $65. The crab cake appetizer had too much bread in it and had this gooey taste full of starch. Would not recommend. read more

Wasn't happy with our last meal here. Ordered the lobster bisque. It came out a very dark brown color, was barely warm, and the taste was overwhelmed with sherry. The small piece of lobster on top was cold and dry. Ordered the wedge salad. I ate the first grape tomato, and it was old and sour. Noticed all the tomatoes in the salad were old and wrinkly. I asked my husband how his tomatoes where, and he said they were rotten. That's something ANYONE would notice when making a salad, not just a chef. I ordered a rib eye, medium, and it was blood rare. All the white walls and eve try thing being sort of white gives me vibes of a mental institute locked in a padded room. I would Recommmend to never get anything they call sushi! Biggest mistake had so much rice and literally a boil a single shrimp butterfly in half inside maybe what it felt 2 cups of rice, no soy no wasabi nothing felt like hospital sushi! Came here for dinner with two other couples ( in our 50's) This place is gorgeous. The food was perfection, drink amazing. The servers were all so friendly. Word of advice the customers eating there may tend to be a little on the reserved side, I encourage you to let your guard down and have a good time, our server ( I think her name was Chrissy) was so much fun and loved we were having a good time. The hostess actually said they are going to be a fun bunch! We may have gotten a few dirty looks but we are ok with that, laughing is good medicine. Amazing ambiance, service, and food, about 30 minutes away from the Worcester area! The restaurant itself is very beautiful, looks like you're in a Pottery Barn catalog. There was plenty of parking outside and open tables inside on a Thursday evening. The service was both friendly and prompt. The complimentary bread is warm and served with a whipped butter. My husband and I shared a few appetizers since we couldn't decide on just one... we had the mini beef Wellington, gem Cesar, and lobster raviolis, all delicious. I enjoyed my braised chicken dish and ended up with leftovers since I was pretty full on the bread and appetizers :) I left just enough room for dessert and shared the zeppoles and coffee with tiramisu gelato with the husband. After ordering so much food, the meal came to less than $150 with tax and tip. We hope to join again for dinner and maybe a weekend brunch. read more

Have been here several times. Every other time was excellent. This time one of us ordered a Paloma with tequila - server didn't know what a Paloma was so instead of clarifying she just brought out tequila. Waited about 45 mins for meals to arrive - 3 of 4 were lukewarm to cold. Server also didn't come by during the wait time to see if we wanted anything else. When asked how our food was, we were honest and said the fish was cold. Instead of apologizing the server said she told us the swordfish (one of the 3 dishes) came on a bed of cold salad (which didn't explain why the fish itself was also cold). We agreed with each other that we didn't hear her mention cold when describing specials. Then she went on a long rant about her personal life. The Venue is beautiful inside and out ,food was very good , service was very slow and you need to bring all food and desserts out at once not separate or 5/ 10 minutes apart . We made a reservation for lunch on a Sunday . There were 8 other people in the restaurant and our party of 6 with 2 servers. No cocktails were ordered . The service was super slow our meals were salads, soups and desserts . The waitress was very kind . We were charged for an extra salad ( Good thing I questioned the bill) which was taken care of . ( Thank you ) Our food didn't all come out together 1 of our party was missing part of her meal which came out as we were all done and the waitress was clearing . Dessert was fabulous, again food was very good. Presentation was beautiful but I don't know how it takes 3 hrs and 40 min for soup and salads . This place is amazing. The atmosphere is inviting clean and beautiful. The staff was so accommodating and friendly. We came in on New Years to celebrate an at home wedding earlier in the day and they went over the top to celebrate with us with literally no notice. The piano player even played a song for the bride and groom and to dance to. The food was amazing all of us enjoyed every course. From the apps and Salads, to main course and dessert everything was top notch and cooked perfectly. They did a great job of spacing our meal time out so we could enjoy the company. We waited 25 minutes before he took our drink order (I had to ask him to). There are many courses that should take time but he never checked if we needed drinks or water In between courses. 5 stars is really not enough. Anya is an exceptional restaurant. It deserves a standing ovation! The service is impeccable and friendly (now THAT'S quite rare!). I've traveled the world (Japan, South Africa, Belgium, India, Turkey, Ireland, England, Iceland, Hawaii, China, South America, Mexico) and eaten some really amazing food and been to some of the top restaurants, Bouley's, Montrachet, Cirque, Picholine, La Bernadin, Nobu, Nirvana etc. ANYA is right up there with the best. From the moment you walk in, the quiet and comfortable atmosphere surrounds you. I went rather early, for a birthday dinner on a Thursday evening. The drinks are creative and very tasty. I love that the chef came running out of the kitchen to get a bottle of something to put in a dish he was preparing. Dinner is beyond excellent...the potato leek soup melts in your mouth, as you'd expect, but the melting actually melted. Tuna tartar tacos were delicious and perfectly balanced with crisp tacos and wasabi soy. Then tuna tataki with a chipotle aioli on one side and a miso soy on the other (some of us like spice and some don't). Both appetizers were generous in portion so that the four of us each had 2 pieces each. The surrounding salad of radishes was so lovely and tasty, I would have ordered it by itself if it was a menu item. After our soup and appetizers we each ordered a different entree. Beef Wellington, Baked Stuffed Shrimp, Broiled Scallops and Day Boat Cod. I don't eat beef, but the person who consumed it didn't say much while eating it, they just kept making yummy sounds. The Beef is Wagyu beef and the Puff Pastry looked perfectly done, a nice brown crisp outer crust and gorgeously cooked beef on the interior. The baked stuffed shrimp was exceptional and cooked perfectly (hard to do with baked shrimp as it usually gets too dry). The stuffing of crab meat and bread and buttter along with fresh herbs was delicious and delicate and melt in your mouth. The Broiled Scallops were fabulously cooked and a nice brown buttery crust on the outer sides while the scallops themselves were like buttah....buttah...buttah just soft and sweet. The Day Boat Cod, which I had ordered was so incredibly perfectly done. The miso sauce was so delicately flavored and complimented the cod dish so well that it tasted like I was eating Halibut! The crispy sushi rice underneath was not overly sweet and provided a great texture to accompany the fish. The dish should be called "Dream Boat Cod" rather than Day Boat....but I digress. We ordered Creme Brulee for dessert and it came out with a candle on a plate with my name and "Happy 65th birthday" written in chocolate and creme. Oh my! Nobody had told them it was my birthday....let alone 65th.... I should mention that when we arrived at the table they had sprinkled it with a few rhinestones and a card that stated "Happy Birthday", no name indicated. So, the wait staff was so attentive to our table and our wine (La Crema chardonnay) that she listened well enough to understand it was my birthday, how old I was and what my name was, without asking at all. Really beautiful inside and vibe overall. Appetizer of shrimp cocktail was excellent, very fresh. Ordered the halibut for my main. Flavor overall was great and the fish was cooked perfectly. My only critique is that the dish arrived slightly cold and the portion of couscous was small. I am a petite woman and I was still hungry after. It ended up taking a bite out of my boyfriend's burger which was delicious. Chef walked around and asked how everything was which was nice. We were also given a teaser while waiting for our meal at no cost. All in all we'll be back. Given the price of the food these small details I mentioned are important. Everyone who has worked in a restaurant knows how important it is to get hot food out and not let it hang out in the window which I imagine was the case with my dish. The property is absolutely stunning! Very well done. Over the top ambiance! But... the food really is not good. We were disappointed from the appetizer to the entrees. Didn't really taste like much. The food looks so well put together quite the artist yet it lacks flavor and taste. Great to look at but not to taste. The pickled vegetable appetizer was so strong it made our eyes water, we didn't realize all the veggies were pickled on the platter? The beet appetizer the beets were hard to cut. Sushi wasn't bad. My salmon was salty and I couldn't taste all the veggies...my friends veal was ok with a big lump of crab meat but no flavor. We will probably go back to try a burger or lobster roll on the deck. So Anya is in Thompson CT way out in middle of nowhere off Rte 395 and 102z it's a beautiful facility, spacious, new and gorgeous inside. Staff and Chef make you feel like a regular. Wine list was great 2015 Carpaso Brunel two bottles. Appetizers perfect 4 different ordered as well as 4 different dinners. I had the Lamb and cooked to perfection, wife sirloin with Bone marrow Perfect. Surf and turf and Ravioli by our friends All great. Sorbet & Crème Brûlée .. perfect. We visited Saturday evening for our annual Christmas Dinner with the country clan. First time here. We absolutely loved the space. The service was without any issue. The food was, overall quite delicious. Here's the BUT... I heard from almost all- the food is just not coming to the table hot. The end of the line was at desert. We sent back cool coffee. Hot coffee came a bit later with the deserts. That started us all all comparing notes. The food was not hot enough to give the impression of being fresh. Hot and fresh or you're going to be gone. The beautiful space won't save you. Every successful venue figured this out. Anya better figure it out before they run out of first time visitors. FAST! read more

I drove 45 minutes to get to the restaurant today to be told they were closed for a private event. It would have been professional for them to post this on the website, but they did not. When I emailed the restaurant to express my disappointment, they apologized that I didn't here of their "highly publicized" event. If it's not on your own website, how well do you publicize? Also, the tone of their reply was arrogant and they seemingly blamed me for not knowing their private party schedule. Taking customers for granted is not a receipe for success. Update- Thank you for your reply and posting our email correspondence. It is demonstrative of how you handled my complaint. Instead of apologizing that your website did not mention the 4/28 event and closure, you blamed me for not knowing of your event because I didn't search Facebook or call the restaurant to verify the accuracy of your website. Your attempt to fault your clientele and provide a "backhanded" apology could become troublesome in your service sector. read more

This was our first and our LAST time dining at Anya's Restaurant. We went to celebrate our wedding anniversary and upon entering, we were impressed with the overall atmosphere of the restaurant. However, when seated, we were completely ignored for an extended period of time. Some staff were looking at us & seeing the frustration on our faces. It appeared to us that they were discussing & debating about who is going to go and take care of us. Finally, one of them came and apologized for the long wait and had then asked if we'd like to order some drinks. Even when we were seated, we were not even offered any drinks, not even any water. Once we had received our drinks, it took a while before our waiter finally came to us to order our food. FINALLY, the food was brought to us and that was it! Our "waiter" never checked back on us at all! Half way though our meal, we had both finished our drinks and no one EVER came to check on whether we'd like another drink or even to see how our meals were. I would say that the food was just a little more than "OK". It wasn't bad but you do not get what you pay for! Finally, as we were waiting for a long period of time for the bill, I had decided to go to the front desk and ask for it, since we were sitting right next to it. At that point, the waiter came over (while I was still at the front desk) and had asked my wife if we'd "like to see the dessert menu". She had informed him that we "were all set and that we just wanted the bill". Again, he never checked in on us on the food nor about getting any refills. It was not a busy evening whereas the restaurant was not even half-full. The atmosphere is quite pleasant and the piano music was soothing but the service is simply AWFUL. As a matter of fact, while we were eating our meals, another customer was exiting with his party when he blurted, "the service here sucks!" to another couple that had just entered the establishment and were waiting to be seated. It is unfortunate whereas we had high(er) expectations for this beautiful restaurant but were quickly discouraged after the horrible (lack of) service by the staff! We try to support our local businesses but with such an experience, we would be better off going to a chain restaurant and get the same quality of food for a lesser price and much better service. read more

When I visited the small town of Thompson last week for a wedding I didnt expect to find such a hidden gem but boy was I surprised! This place has great food and even better service. I ordered the filet and it was perfectly cooked and delectable. But the real star here was our server, Lizzie. She was attentive, bubbly and one of the most competent servers I've had to date. She came over within a minute of us sitting and made sure we had drinks immediately. She was actually the one who recommended the filet and she checked back the perfect amount throughout our visit! We spent a rainy afternoon celebrating a birthday with the family and had a fabulous time! We ordered off the brunch menu and everything was a gastronomic experience. The cocktails were unique and interesting with top-shelf spirits. We followed it up with the charcuterie comprised of local meats and cheeses; the truffle pecorino and brie with local honey were the favorites. We then moved on to the small plates; who would have thought octopus could have tasted so good! Each of the entrees had their own unique twist and were expertly prepared. Wagyu beef burger was fantastic especially with the hand cut fries. Someone at our table requested a honey mustard and the server stated that they don't normally offer that but asked the chef to "whip something up". It was the best honey mustard we ever had! The seasonal ravioli was a butternut squash ravioli and was so good that everyone at the table ended up dipping their bread in the remaining sauce leaving the bowl completely clean. The Eggs Benedict was not your standard fare. From the perfectly poached egg to the braised pork belly, to the house made hollandaise, everything was fantastic! The staff was extremely hospitable and light hearted (even when we had a little spill at the table). They made us feel like they wanted us there and were glad we came. Even though the food and experience was amazing, the best part was that we never felt rushed and were able to relax and enjoy our time together. We spent over 2 hours there; not because service was slow, but because Anya gave us the opportunity to just relax and enjoy the time. We will definitely be back! read more

The restaurant is beautiful and the evening started out with great expectations. Unfortunately, the quality or the food did not come close to par. To start, our table of four each ordered an appetizer. Two came out, followed by the third and eventually the fourth. The shrimp cocktail was a disaster (think old bay seasoning sprinkled on a mediocre shrimp) and no cocktail sauce. The tuna was very good. The entree of Prime Rib was a massive disappointment. Firstly it had no flavor. NONE. Secondly, it was cold. I'll let it slide because it was a soft opening and the staff listened to our critiques.
