I purchased my wedding dress at the Filenes Basement "running of the brides" sale and Maria was on site when I tried on my dress. It was a lovely dress but it actually did not zip up past my waist. I asked Maria if she could work with it. She gave me a consultation and I was pleased. I booked an appointment with her on the spot. Maria really transformed my dress! We added straps, a petticoat to flare the dress out and a bustle. Maria made me a dress that, at first, did not fit me at all to my dream dress! Maria is a miracle worker! 7-8 of my work shorts had developed holes in the same spot near the right elbow. I was told by two tailors that the shirts were unfixable. I admit that I'm at annoying bride that was paranoid about gaining 5 lbs and not fitting into my dress- but only because it did happen! I bought my dress lightly used and brought it to Maria over a year before my wedding. It fit almost perfect and just needed some tulle and beading fixed on the bodice. Fast forward 9 month and I went back to try it on and the dress barely fit! I went into panic mode and started to workout and diet. Three or so months before my wedding I went back to Maria who let me try on the dress again and Thank God it fit! Maria was quite honest that I looked like a stuffed sausage in it last time I wore it! haha She did some minor tweaks and told me to come back a month before the wedding. A month before the wedding we finalized most of the alterations and it was perfect! I did my final fitting two weeks before and setup a pick up date. In the meantime though I had a minor panic that maybe I had gained weight and the dress wouldn't fit even though I saw it a week before! Maria is a godsend. I brought my bridesmaid dress in simply to have it hemmed, because I'm super short, y'all. When I went into the dressing room to put it on, my heart dropped. I put on weight. The dress did not fit. It's way too late to buy another and get it in time. Maria acknowledged the difficulties, and when I was on the brink of tears she said 'We can do this. Maria is amazing at what she does. I brought my dress in 4 months before my wedding date and was so glad I did. There was a lot of work to be done on my dress but Maria was able to do it all. I had to have the dress hemmed, bustled, cups put in, etc. Yes it was expensive but the work was impeccable and it had to be done, no matter where I went. I didn't know people like Maria still existed. I called ahead of time to find out if someone could sew on a button that had fallen off of my coat - I was leaving to go on a business trip to Europe within a few hours on the same day, so I really didn't have any time to waste. I spoke with Maria on the phone and she said "Sure, come on in". So I did. She not only sewed on the one button that had fallen off, but also repaired the other 2 that were a bit loose and sewed them back on securely... all in probably about 5 minutes. Maria is AMAZING! I was set on wearing my moms dress (she was married 35 years ago). The dress was not cleaned at all since the day of her wedding . On the day of appointment, once I put the dress on it, Maria explained to me all the details and was very impressed that her eyes immediately know what it should be fixed. I gave her a full of trust. Anytime Alterations is an absolute wonderful business. Maria is a really talented and wonderful seamstress. I recently got married and had a wedding. I had one dress for the ceremony and another dress for the reception. She did such a great job on not one but both the dresses I wore for my wedding. I bought them both from another store. Neither fit real well when I brought them to Maria to alter. When she was finished tailoring them, not only did they both fit well but she made each dress more spectacular by making the changes to them I desired. When she was finished altering the dresses, they look beautiful. She also did a press and steaming of the dresses a couple days before the wedding. That process gave the dresses the right amount of flouncy flow to them. The steaming and pressing added an extra special touch to the look of the dresses. Maria handmade my veil to match my dress for the ceremony. It was very nice. She made it cathedral length and she put little bling rhinestones throughout the length of the veil. After the wedding, my family and friends later told me it looked like my veil was sparkling like the candles around me on the alter. It made for a nice effect to have the bling on the veil. That was Maria's idea. Maria also handmade the vest and tie for my husband's tuxedo. He looked great. Both he and I were very satisfied with the service we received from Maria. She is very easy to communicate with. She is willing to honestly answer questions and give suggestions. It can be very stressful to plan a wedding but I was never stressed when dealing with Maria. I received a coupon for a free pants hem (no leather)for a new customer good until 1/31/2013 and finding no hours listed, I went to the website; still no open hours listed so I called and was told I had to have an appointment. The pants hem is already measured and still they insisted on a specific appointment. I am looking for a good alterations business because even though I sew, I don;t have time to do everything, but they lost a potential customer who lives nearby because they woudl not let me drop off this one pair of unlined pants to be shortened for free. I couldn't be more pleased with the service I received from Anytime Alterations. From my first phone call to book an appointment, Maria was reassuring and accommodating. I came to her after going to another tailor who did a poor job altering my maid of honor dress. I came to Maria with a need for a rush order and someone more skilled to fix the previous alteration. She was able to book me at the appointment time I needed and it was clear by her examination of the dress that she knew what she was talking about. She charged me a fair price $85 for the fix I needed to the bust line and even gave me options on whether to have cups sewn in or to use the bra I had bought for the backless dress. In addition, the shop is neat, clean, light-filled and easy to find/park. I was very impressed and knew I was in good hands immediately upon her opening the door. Maria made my wedding dress perfect, even though I gave her an unreasonably short timeline and then asked for one more round of fixes two days before my wedding! She was easy to reach by text and did some major last-minute alterations without charging me any additional fees. It was expensive to have it all done with the last-minute rush fee, but out of all the tailors I priced in the DC area, she was the most reasonable -- and the nicest! I'm not even mad about it- it was so crazy I'm just glad to have the story to tell. i called and scheduled an appointment and showed up at the address listed both here and on her website, to find that she doesn't work out of this location anymore. when I called her to ask what up she immediately started yelling at me saying that she didnt know what website I used and so how did she know I would go to the wrong place. having just learned from her that she had two websites I asked her if those two websites had different information on them, and if so, if she could see the problem with that. She yelled back that if i was confused about her location I should have called to ask. I told her I was not confused- that I went to the location on her website. She hung up on me. It's been over a month since my wedding and I still have a bad taste in my mouth regarding Maria. With so many great reviews I thought I would feel comfortable and trust her to do a great job. She was unkind from the beginning. She criticized my Maggie Sottero gown from the second I walked in. She couldn't stop talking about how poorly the bead work was done. The beads would fall off while she was pinning me, but I paid Maria extra to fix them. She did not follow through. On my wedding day there were tons of broken strings hanging out from where beads had popped off. I had mentioned them to her in my last fitting and she said would get to it, but never did. She criticized me for losing weight, which most brides do. She grabbed my side and said look now the dress is too big. Instead of being rude she should have fixed it! I can't possibly be the first bride to lose weight. I paid over $800 in alterations and steam cleaning. For that much money the dress should have been perfect and she could have been nicer to me. The bra-cup inserts slid around all day because they were only tacked in at the top; they didn't feel secure. The only positive I can say is that she did a good job with the bustle. I would not recommend going to her. The parking is also very confusing. read more

Karen was the best bridal stylist! Alfred Angelo was the last of many places visited that particular day and I was sold! Upon walking in with my Mom, Dad, and sister, Karen made sure to take care of each member by giving them a chair around the mirror and platform. She then explained the process of ordering a dress and showed us all the options for me since my wedding was only 3 months away at the time. She listened very well to what I was interested in and pulled the dresses I wanted to try. I didn't have a slip or bustier so she grabbed ones for me to use. She made me feel completely comfortable and helped me with each dress unrushed. I also felt she was interested in me and my story and I felt like I was being helped by a girlfriend. I just about tried every dress from the express catalog and she was very helpful and encouraging the entire time. Never did we feel rushed and she was very pleasant the entire time. I ended up choosing the last dress I tried on at which point she helped pick out jewelry and showed me what it would look like with the veils. She also directed me to bridesmaids dresses and I selected the convertible dress for all 7 of my bridesmaids. She was even helpful to give me a sample swatch to take around for matching purposes. Horrible!!!! Bad attitude and arrogant from the start and ridiculously over-priced but I could have forgiven all of that if the workmanship lived up to the reviews! I have been a clothing designer for 20 years and needed something small done in a pinch. Based on the reviews in Yelp, I went here. I have never seen more shoddy work in my life! Two pockets on the front of the jacket were sewn differently, ragged edges were left on all the seams inside and out but the worst part was they sewed a panel of the dress UPSIDE DOWN despite a very clear animal print! The animals were upside down!!! C'mon really? Professional? Not in attitude and manner or work! Do not trust this person to alter your wedding dress and save yourself from being treated poorly. read more

The thing about Maria is she is WONDERFUL! As soon as she opened the door I knew it would be a fun experience. She was kind, patient, and extremely knowledgeable. She had tons of good tips from getting smoky smells out of tulle to how to hide armpit fat with double-stick tape! She fixed my dress (which was almost ruined by another useless tailor) while I waited, and she didn't even charge me for her exquisite work!! It literally took her five minutes to beautifully finish my straps and her work is seamless. When I asked if she thought my dress needed to be dry cleaned (I bought the sample dress from the store) she talked me out of it, even though it would have made her a lot of money. Oh my goodness! Maria did BEAUTIFUL work on my dress. I bought a very simple dress with a cowl back that I brought in for alterations. I walked in thinking that I just needed a bustle, and maybe to have it taken in. But after meeting with Maria, I had a totally different vision in all the best ways. The top of the dress didn't fit perfectly - Maria noticed right away and came up with a solution that I didn't know was even possible (dropping the front of the dress 2 inches). And when we looked at the cowl, she suggested adding some sparkle - gorgeous crystal appliques on both shoulders of the gown. The results were gorgeous. Maria is excellent, pays personal attention to her clients, and really knows her stuff. I had her alter my wedding gown and she made the process extremely smooth and worry - free. She will even do cleaning (if needed) and pressing of garments. I had purchased the dress second-hand and needed a number of alterations including having the dress taken in (which required removing & re-attaching the lace overlay), a bustle added, and buttons added. I even purchased a beautiful handmade veil and jeweled belt from her (she makes them herself) and had her attach the belt to the dress. Everything was excellent. The only reason I give 4 starts and not 5 is the price. I definitely paid more than I had budgeted for the alterations (due to my assumptions going in that it would cost less than it would), but Maria does tell you up front how much the alterations are going to cost and sticks to that number, even if you add extra small things like having a belt or bustle added later on, she doesn't charge extra for the additional labor. For important alterations that you can't afford to have screwed up, it is definitely worth it. read more

I needed a piece taken off, a belt put on and a complicated hem. The alterations came out perfectly and the dress looked great. I can not say enough good things about this place. Maria is incredible and because of her, getting my wedding dress and doing the alterations was the least stressful and most amazing part of planning my wedding. I actually purchased my dress somewhere else and the seamstress was unable to finish the alterations due to an injury. She passed my dress along to Maria and from then on it was a wonderful process. My dress ended up being several sizes too big and it had to be pretty much completely taken apart and re-done. Keep in mind, the dress is vey intricate with lace and beading on the entire thing. Maria took extreme care and did impeccable work in making sure the dress fit perfectly to my body and figure and made sure that all the details were flawless. In addition to her work, which in my opinion cannot be topped, she in general is a kind, hilarious, and calming person to work with. I would give this place a million stars if I could.
