I came in to get my dress tailored since I would be attending a wedding in about a month. I asked the seamstress to fix the sides of the bust as well as hem my dress. It came out to be $240 total, since she also noticed something was wrong with the darts on the dress. It took about three weeks total for her to make the adjustments to perfectly fit my size, and it turned out so well! The manufacturers messed up on the dress and put the darts in the worst place possible, and the seamstress noted that several times. She put in a lot of hard work in order to tailor the dress to what I wanted. She brought the dress up too high by altering the arm holes smaller which now scratch me and also placed the boob part awkwardly and didn't fix what I initially went in there for. I've taken two items here for tailoring, both with great results. I've had great service, and the prices are fairly cheap for anything I've needed. The first was a leather jacket that had seen better days, and the ladies of Yung's patched up what they could, and it held for another couple years. Having had good luck the first time, I took a pair of suit pants in to be tailored to the correct length. It was a rush job, since I needed them for a wedding 2-3 days later, but they were still able to take it. I was told next time to give them more time, but there wasn't an extra charge or anything, as far as I could tell. The whole thing cost around $10. They did a great job, and I'll be happy to continue taking my occasional alterations there. Overall, the staff is very friendly, they do a good job, and the cost is way under anything I've found in DC, or closer in suburbs (I'm looking at you Bethesda!). I hope to keep this place in business as long as I still work nearby, because they've been good to me. read more

I basically had every bride's nightmare. My dress didn't fit 3-weeks before my wedding. David's bridal BUTCHERED my wedding dress. Like literally BUTCHERED. Cut the tulle unevently in the bottom, somehow forgot to take in the entire dress (literally an additional 2 inches on each side and 4 in the bottom), fixed a rip hat davids put in the back, put in cups (where davids made me buy hideous undergarments which did not fit) sewed my belt on, etc. I literally was devastated and Yung's kept comforting me when I went PSYCHO lol. Took my simple taffeta bridesmaid dress to Yungs. It needed to be shortened about 2 inches and taken in a bit in the bust. The employee who helped me was friendly and I could tell she knew what she was doing. Picked my dress up today and the fit was an 8/10. I get the bill and it's $85!!! To chop off a couple inches and take the top in a bit?! I've had much more elaborate dresses altered and never paid more than $50. Long story short, they'll do a decent job, but be sure to get an estimate up front...could be a rip off. read more

I bought my wedding dress 3 weeks before my wedding date. Instead of paying $400 to David's Bridal I came to Yung for half the price. She obviously had a lot of experience with wedding dresses and knew how to fit the dress onto my body shape. After reading the yelp reviews, I took a leap of faith and entrusted her with the dress. It took a little convincing from my end to ask her to change how high the dress came up to my chest after the alterations. She insisited it looked best the way it was but I reallyyy didn't want to look like a suffocated bride. But, she finally relented and altered it again for me and all was well. Note that she doesn't provide iron/steam services so you have to go elsewhere for that. Overall, I'd recommend her and would come back if I need alterations for future dresses. read more

I recently took my wedding gown to Yung's and they did a GREAT job. At first I was going to have my future mother-in-law do the alterations since she sews and made her own wedding gown, but after seeing what had to be done with my dress and how complex it would be, she recommended that I take it to a professional. I took it to Yung's and I"m really pleased with the result. The owner of Yung's is really nice and she paid attention to what I wanted. Although I only had to make the dress shorter, it wasn't an easy cut and sew because of the way that my dress is cut (asymetrical). She pinned up the dress and had me walk around the store with it pinned up to make sure that was the length I wanted. She took her time and made sure I was happy. The best part is that she had the alterations done in 3 weeks and it fit perfectly! She also did the bustle, which looks great too! I would definitey recommend Yung's for your alteration needs. They do a lot of alterations for the store "I Do I Do" across the way, so its obvious they have a lot of wedding gown and bridal dress alteration experience. I took a bridesmaid dress (purchased at I Do, I Do across the street) here to be altered two years ago and had a HORRIBLE experience. I brought my dress in because it needed to be let out a bit in the hips, but mostly because it was way too long. When I dropped it off I was by myself, and clearly stated that I needed X inches (I believe it was 4) taken off the bottom of the dress. We measured it out and she pinned the dress to that length, and it looked perfect. When I came back to pick it up I happened to have my mom with me, and I'm so glad I did. The dress was CROOKED, with the left side several inches longer than the right side. That's bad enough, but the seamstress didn't believe us (even though the difference was several inches, and very very clear.) Finally my mom got down on the floor with a ruler and showed how it was X inches from the floor to the dress on the left side, and X + 2 on the right (same problem from the waist on down). Also, neither side had been taken up as much as I'd requested, and the seamstress then tried to argue with us that that length was too short. Finally she reluctantly agreed to take another stab at the dress, despite continuing to say that she saw no difference in length between the two sides. She also emphasized to us that chiffon is very very difficult to work with. Of course it is, that's why I thought I was paying an expert. I decided the odds she'd be able to correct a mistake she refused to acknowledge existed (despite her own measuring tape agreeing with us) were pretty low, so I grabbed the dress and walked out. My mom ended up redoing the alterations herself. (Luckily there was enough extra length to undo the butchering without creating a mini-dress.) Picking up that dress was one of the more surreal experiences of my entire life, so I remember it vividly. Now that I'm planning my own wedding I know I would have a conniption if someone did this to my wedding dress. So please, future brides and bridesmaids-to-be, go somewhere else!! Alterations were done on time and reasonably priced. Since they left the dress worse off than when I began, though, that hardly seems relevant. read more

I had my wedding dress altered here, and it came out beautifully. I bought the dress on consignment across the street (at I Do I Do) and it was already the perfect length, but I needed to have it taken in at the hips. During the fitting, the super sweet head seamstress also recommended a couple of other touches here and there that took the dress to another level (sewn in padding to enhance the girls, for one). When I came in my for my second fitting a couple of weeks later, the dress fit amazingly and no additional alterations were needed. I walked out with my dress that day! My wedding dress turned out perfect! She had to take it in at the bust, and basically make seams under my arms because there weren't any. The hard part was making the lacy flower look normal since she was cutting into it. I know she was nervous about how it would turn out, but it looks amazing. I'm so happy with the finished product. Be warned: she's blunt! I knew this going in, and couldn't stop giggling when she told me maybe I could lose 3 pounds. Just go along with it and she'll laugh along with you. I have been doing business with Yung's for about 13 years. I have never found a better place for my tailoring. I'm big time shopper in NYC and have brought them the most complex problems to resolve. I buy expensive limited edition designer clothes with special designs, rips, tears, patches, etc., that sometimes need to be duplicated in the alteration process and you'd never know that everything wasn't original after they finished. They've even altered leather goods with complicated leather stitching. Over the years I have never returned a single item or even tried on a piece before leaving. I had a very difficult order and she was able to fix it! i came in with a long, multi layered bridesmaid dress that was a bit too small for me and hard to return. The woman who works at Yung's worked very patiently and close with me to make it happen. I came back several times for fittings and she tried different approaches...taking the boning out, putting boning in, loosening the skirt, me losing a bit of weight.... The material kept bunching up on the corset and the inner layer was wrong. It seemed unfixable but then she made it work! I actually look great in the dress. She really took pride in her work and wanted to make sure it was good quality. She also sowed in cups for the bust area of the dress, which some of the other places I know do not do. I paid over $100 for this...but guess what, the other bridesmaids in my party had to get many alterations done and they paid the same amount for even less work and less quality work . GREAT FOR PAGEANTS! Helen has saved us more than once for pageant gown alterations. If you don't know how important the fit of a dress is during a pageant, the judging on the gown is very strict and points are taken off for distance above the floor as well as fit all around the body. She listened to my daughter when she requested even the slightest change in order to make the dress look as good as possible. Her work is excellent and fast when needed. She helped my daughter out for the Miss Maryland USA pageant as well as the Princess America pageant and we will be sure to bring any returning business her way. I took my $200 bridesmaid dress here and was very nervous to get alterations done to it. Because of the style of the dress, she wasn't sure if she was going to be able to alter it in a way that I'd be pleased (she was upfront and honest about this from the beginning) but I still took a chance because I was running out of time. In the end, she did an AMAZING job on my dress! She even offered to sew the cups in the dress for me so that I wouldn't have to run around trying to find the right strapless bra to go with the dress. The offer alone was very courteous as I was already stressed out with trying to get alterations done quickly but correctly to such an expensive dress. I couldn't be more pleased with the work that was done. Price wise, it's a bit pricey but you get what you pay for at the end of the day.
