This is a nice gym. It's small, but it has the right stuff for me. I like to use selectorized strength machines to avoid injury and focus on isolated muscles. It's a 24/7 facility, but staff are unavailable from late evenings until the early morning. I showed up at 10:00am for my tour. As far as members, hardly anyone was there. A perfect time for me. It's about $50 a month. No contracts and no initiation fees. $40 for a keyless entry fob. And, with the fob, you have access to any location. Free parking! read more

Of the few gyms in Alameda, they are all small, but the most popular one is just too packed for my taste, and the hours on the weekend don't work for me, so I decided to check out Anytime Fitness. Roughly ten years ago I used to go to the other Anytime Fitness location, and I had also went to a location out in Reno when I was in school. I reached out to the owner on Yelp and he was very helpful, allowing me to try both of the gyms before making a decision. It being 24 hours is helpful, and I like that it can sometimes be empty. I haven't gone in during a time when it's been empty, but I like the idea of it for times when I just don't feel like talking and want to get the workout over and done with. This location is cool. It looks like they got some new lockers, and some of those new lockers have keys. I believe there are two showers and two bathrooms, which is helpful for those looking to get a sesh in before work but still wanting to wash up. The studio area is tiny, but I love having the TRX ropes and if it's not too crowded, I can get warmed up in that area. This isn't my preferred location, but I like the option of being able to go to any Anytime location I want. No, it isn't the largest gym but it gets the job done, looks clean, is near Lucky supermarket if you need to get some grocery shopping done after your workout, and it isn't packed. Everyone in there is actually working out, and I noticed the weights were often in the right place. Customer service and it being 24 hours would make it four stars, but the size is why I'm giving it three. read more

Update: Stephen responds to negative yelp reviews, but doesn't actually read! I've never seen anyone at the desk, they don't return phone calls, and emails bounce unless their team initiates. It's an admin shiz show. Further, they really did send me to a collection agency within 18 hours of the first transaction failure on my card! The called the collection agency before attempting to contact me about it! Who wants to join a gym that tanks your credit rating? I've been trying to cancel my membership for 4 months. There's never anyone at the desk. The don't answer the phone and never return voicemails. Emails bounce. In desperation. I canceled my card and they reported me to collections less than 24 hours after the first failed transaction with no way to reach them to resolve it. Run far, run fast. I booked a gym tour at 6:30 PM, only to arrive and find the gym completely unstaffed. What's the point of offering a 6:30 appointment if no one is there to honor it? This kind of mismanagement and lack of communication is completely unprofessional. Time is valuable, and mine was wasted. read more

This place is pretty good for the price. I went here initially on a free trial. The owner was there (he also owns the one on Bay Farm), and he gave me the trial. The advantages of this place are simple: its quiet and its open 24/7. You can go at anytime with a badge card that opens the front door. The disadvantages are that it is small and there aren't too many machines. If you like just a basic workout though, its more than enough. They give discounts for students, military, and people who live in the nearby marinas. read more

A good, basic, small gym that's kept clean. Would it be nice to have a bit more room? Of course. Here about about eight months. They keep the restrooms and premises clean. You can get a lot done in 30-40 minutes, especially if come during the non-prime hours. I'd like the benches for bench press a little more standard. Have to get in there, adjust bench location, height of bar, etc. That's minor stuff. It has everything you need, even used the showers a couple times when had a plumbing issue at home. What a nice little gym! Anytime Fitness is a family-owned gym in Alameda. This is not a large gym, but no one should care about the size of their gym. I care most about cleanliness, machine selection, machine availability, classes, and location. CLEANLINESS: Anytime Fitness is wonderfully clean. The bathrooms are spotless, and so are the showers. The showers, by-the-way, are private inside private bathrooms. MACHINE SELECTION: They have all the basic machines. If you are looking for a specialized-machine, they probably won't have it. But they have every machine I could ever want. Probably about 35 total. MACHINE AVAILABILITY: Excellent. It does get a little more populated in the evenings, but by virtue of the fact that this gym is open 24/7, the patronage is more spreadout. I've never had to wait for a machine. CLASSES: They don't offer classes here, however, they do have an in-house personal trainer. LOCATION: Fantastic location near the Webster St. bridge, shopping, food, and ample parking. Please note, this is not a staffed gym. You use a little keyfob and make entry yourself anytime. They put little signs around the place providing instructions that have painful mispellings to read. These are designed to help the gym self-run. PRO-TIP: If you ask for a 7-day trial, they will gladly give it to you. SUMMARY: Great, clean gym with everything you need except a pool. read more

I've been lifting for 5 straight years and within that time I've visited/joined multiple gyms, and I'm a Powerlifter/bodybuilder. First pre COVID this gym was already cleaned and disinfected everyday by the staff which are friendly and nice. The anytime here and bay farm always had wipes and majority of the members were already wiping areas down so, if your on the fence about cleanliness don't worry it's always been clean. My favorite commercial gyms are anytime & crunch in San Lorenzo. Friendly staff and gym is clean. Anytime fitness gyms to me are like upscaled hotel gyms which are wonderful for first time gym goers and even if your bodybuilding because you have all the basic machines you need, racks & barbells so nothing you can't do here, but if you are trying to get into powerlifting seriously don't expect much because there's only 2 racks and 2 barbells so you might have to wait if they're occupied. But nonetheless the gym is for everyone and rarely at full capacity like 24hr fitness. And forgot it's 24/7 with a key card that is $40 1 time price so definitely worth it. read more

If you're expecting/looking for a gym with tons of amenities, classes, space, and lots of specialized equipment, this likely isn't the gym for you. However, if you're like me and just looking for a well-managed, clean, conveniently located, affordable gym that has all the equipment you need to meet your basic workout needs and isn't constantly over-crowded, then I'd highly recommend Anytime Fitness in Marina Village. Things I loved/thought were great: MANAGEMENT: Stephan, the owner, was always approachable, reasonable, and fair. For example, he proactively paused all charges for members when the gym had to close temporarily due to the COVID pandemic), which I was impressed with, especially considering how hard gym owners have been hit by the pandemic. He was frequently present and was always super-responsive to emails. CLEANLINESS: The gym was always very clean and machines well maintained. In the 2 years I was a member, I think I only ever saw one machine that was actually broken, which was quickly fixed within a couple of days. Members seem to be really proactive about wiping down machines after use. EQUIPMENT: It has all the basics most people need, including 2 squat racks (one of which can also be modified to be used as a bench/incline press), a smith machine, all the basic upper/lower body machines one might need to get a solid lower/upper body workout, barbells, dumbbells, different styles of exercise bikes, treadmills, elliptical machines, a stair machine, and a rowing machine. In the small studio, there are 2 sets of TRX straps, a set of battle ropes, and a heavy punching bag. OTHER PERKS: I loved being able to access other Anytime Fitness locations when travelling. I also really appreciated having lockers that actually locked, so I could leave my wallet/car keys and enjoy my workout worry-free. (Surprisingly, most other Anytime Fitness locations I visited only had unlocked cubbies, which made me nervous leaving keys etc.) There were a couple minor things that I noticed that could've been better. I live nearby so it wasn't a big deal to me, but the one time I tried the showers, the water pressure was noticeably low, so much so that I never tried using them again. Also, occasionally I would have issues using Spotify with the Wifi. Never figured out why when other apps usually worked fine, but it was a minor annoyance. Finally, like most gyms, it could also get a little busy at peak times (weekdays ~4:30-6:30ish), which sometimes resulted in having to wait to use a bench press or squat rack which I prefer to use at the start of my workout. That said, the wait usually wasn't too long and I typically was able to get my workout in in a reasonable amount of time. Overall, this gym met my needs extremely well during my time living in Alameda and would recommend to anyone with similar workout needs! read more

This place is like my home away from home! I usually come here several days a week to use the cardio machines. It's so quiet and clean when I go, which is what I love about it. Plus, because it's so convenient, it has motivated me to go to the gym more...I have managed to lose 44 lbs since New Years Eve! Nice location, lots of parking. I signed up at this place because it's right by my house and it's very nice compared to where I used to go - Planet Fitness. It's not too crowded lately. The machines are ok. They're not very advanced but there are like 12 cardio stations. I bumped up to four stars because I had an issue with my bill and even though they ended up being correct (once a year you get charged 25 extra for maintenance) I was impressed by the customer service. read more

My only complaint is that the showers are residential style tubs and sinks--they give the bathrooms a dingiest feeling. They have the usual small club weights and cardio equipment and a small stretching area that is walled off from the rest of the club. Facility is cool, clean, a bit small but it gets the job done. Lockers are nice but the locks could be replaced last year. No earth shattering complaints until we bring up the digital amenity we call WiFi. It works perfectly sometimes. Other times, you're better off turning it off. I'm almost afraid to write a good review because I don't want too many other people finding out about this gem/gym. My workouts consist of lifting and strength training, and as a woman, it's hard to find a safe space to do it in. My women's gym closed so I joined Anytime. I initially came in for a week trial, but the manager, Stephen, had me sold on day 1 and I signed up ASAP. He's amazing, and very attentive to his patron's needs. Gym had all the strength training machines you need. The squat rack isn't always taken, and it's never too busy to workout! Plenty of treadmills and cardio machines too. I'm never waiting to use any of the machines. Bathrooms are clean, and there are antibacterial wipes everywhere for you to wipe down equipment. Also, the 24 hour access is amazing. I love this place. I wasn't notified that this gym was opening back up after COVID-19 shutdown. Never received an email, no call, no mail, no text, nothing and I was charged $51/month for four months. Now I'm out $204 for a gym I didn't even use and couldn't use anyway since I moved. The manager who owns this place won't refund me. This place is a joke. You are limited to a 3 minute shower! All the machine are bunched together. No room to move around without hitting another member... Not enough weights. You have to wait for free weights and machines and showers. Wait, wait, wait..... Plus staff is very unperfessional on handling stalker/preditor/staring people or people who like to take pictures of other members! I was kicked out when I made a complaint and told another member to stop staring at me.... You have to pay for club/gym enhancement?! What the ufkc? You dont make enough a year to pay for improvement? So I should be part owner if I buy equipment for the gym?!!!!! This dont sound like a business, sounds more like I line my pockets with your money. Watch how much of that gym enhancement the actually spend on equipment. I like resistance training with elements of Pilates and stretching at the end of every workout. Bought a membership when things started opening back up during COVID and I must say I'm impressed. The owner, Stephan, provides excellent customer service and you can tell he cares about the people that come to his gym. The gym is always clean and everyone cleans the equipment after use (the owner always maintains a healthy supply of disinfectant wipes). The gym is on the smaller side, but has everything you need. I'd like to recommend my personal trainer Iuliia. She is amazing! She taught me how to exercise correctly and not hurt myself. She identified my weak spots and then helped me to focus on those areas. After several sessions with her I felt stronger and my energy levels increased more than ever. The people I've interacted with have been friendly. The gym itself is run-of-the-mill. It works well enough and I've enjoyed the flexibility of Anytime Fitness' hours over the years. However, I'm really disappointed at their Covid response, and being charged money for zero service during part of the lockdown. I get it. They're trying to survive, and they want to enforce some "donations" using their ironclad contract that you sign to fight what I imagine are catastrophic losses. But this has also been a hard time for me, and a lot of other people. I tried cancelling my membership months ago, but there was no one answering the phone, and the location was closed. Fast-forward: months later they've reopened, and have charged me the "enhancement-fee" to purchase new equipment retro-actively in July-- at a time when the facility was still closed. Plus the $55 membership fee the very month that the lockdown was lifted, as if anyone in their right mind will be rolling up to a gym first thing after the state lockdown order in California expires. It's unethical. It's also unkind to customers to make yourself inaccessible to cancellations until you've already made the charge to the credit card. Then, make it impossible to cancel by holding you, the customer, hostage until you pay what amounts to a ransom fee. Well, I paid the fee. But I won't be signing up again with any Anytime Fitness locations again. Plenty of other gyms that don't creative ways to rip off their loyal clients. This gym is small and clean. People using are nice and usually keep to themselves. This place is great for beginners who don't know what they are doing. The staff are very helpful. It's never been overly crowded so far. They have lockers with locks and keys. They have 1 shower that I've never used. There are 4 tv's that you can see from anywhere either in front or in the mirror. Plenty of free parking. read more

This review is for both harbor bay and marina village anytime fitness since they have the same owner. Both places suck the harbor bay place has equipment from the 1980's and yesterday a lady was using a bench to put her ipad on so she can do an aerobic exercise that she had playing on her iPad and the owner was there and said nothing. Really, is a bench suppose to be used for that especially during prime time hours. The marina village 24 fitness has a few new machines and that's about it and they charged an extra fee for the new TRX system they had installed. You know what they installed basically nothing,2 trx ropes and a speed bag, come on! The price is way to much. I recommend San Leandro or Newark. There 100 times better as far as equipment goes and if you really want to see a TRX set up go to those gyms. The owner should be ashamed of himself for charging an extra fee for what he had put up. To bad the owner of Alameda doesn't look at these gyms as the model. But if you like a bunch of cardio machines and people hogging equipment that isnt being used correctly than Alameda is your best bet. read more
