So I came into this place with my friends, there was no one at the desk to greet us…read more As I walk approximately 25 ft on the left hand side there were cardio machines outdated machines I should state. In the middle there were outdated strength machines however in good condition and the hardcore strength machines that I'm accustomed to using. These machines out beat some of those play play machines as I call them found in other gyms that feed you pizza and bagels. As I move further into the gym I must admit it was very bright and colorful. The walls did not have much of an appeal to them without motivational images or statements so it lackluster in that department. Why not go to a gym that will motivate you while you're sitting on a machine with words blaring at you constantly instead of a plain yellow or green wall? When I moved further into the gym there was an aerobics area that had a stench to it. Yes all gyms have their own funk but this one smelled of mold and onions. It was roomy enough for maybe 25 people to work out. I didn't work out there I came mainly for the weight lifting. I was very disappointed to see paint on the floors and the equipment. There's a certain type an appeal a gym should have and it should not be paint on the gym floors ,equipment or in places its not supposed to be. THERE was also DIRT PILES on the floors in the corners which doesn't make for a healthy gym. I don't know about you but I don't want to be breathing dust balls as I work out. People are paying a healthy penny for this gym . they need to really upgrade equipment , equipment is left out on the floors all over the place. You can't blame the customers mainly for this because it is the responsibility of the staff to make sure people are not hurt or injured so why can't the staff members pick up these items and put them back to their place? There should be no excuse for this type of behavior due to not having adequate Staffing nor being unaware. Each reason given is not an excuse, hire enough staff members and make sure they are continuously checking to make sure there are no equipment scattered around the floor so that people can exercise and walk around safely. The staff members I met are stuckup and that's not a great attitude to have when you are a business owner, employee or trying to give the idea as you are all for one. Nonetheless judge 4 yourself. I've worked out at some of the 4 and 5 star fitness centers and this is just my opinion on this place. It works for some not for all. MUCH, much improvement is needed. Actually I'm really shocked that with the prices that they charge their members they do not upgrade the cardio equipment, clean up the messy paint and dirt, and hire more staff or pay them better to keep the equipment in their proper places. I'd rather work out in a safe and cleaner environment.

In the first message she told me to get a life with a subject title "Asshole". Since I didn't see and respond to that one, she sent me a second message simply reminding me that I am an asshole. Yelp gives individuals the opportunity to voice their opinions and review places based on how they honestly feel about the specific establishment. That is what I did for Straubs. Except now I am getting high school hate messages from a grown woman. Completely unprofessional. Original message I wish I didn't have to give them any stars, but unfortunately yelp won't let me. They kept charging my card after my year membership was over and gave me no notification. They have tricky rules on how to get out of a membership, and the owners are very rude. I have talked to numerous people, and everyone of them have had this problem. It is not worth it. Find a gym with better service, nicer equipment, and less financial burden.

Update: Like other former members, I was contacted on Yelp by Trish Straub -- the owner of Straub…read moreFitness -- shortly after I posted my review of her "gym" and the shady and unethical practices by which they try to extort money out of their former members once they've ceased their membership. First she left me a message calling me an "Asshole." I didn't respond, so three weeks later she followed up with a second message calling me an "Asshole" several more times, in addition to calling me "fat and lazy." Really? Here is her unedited message to me (I am also posting screenshots): "Does tellin-it s stand for tellin shit? I'm not afraid to use my name...Trish Straub. Get your facts straight before you post things you know nothing about. We don't have any equipment from the 70's or 80's with the exception of the strength equipment you used with Paul that members would greatly miss if we ever replaced it. It's not our fault that you did not listen to the membership director who sold you your membership nor did you read the contract that states the terms and conditions of a membership at Straub's Fitness. Sounds like you're blaming us for your lack of use...probably fat and lazy. Get a life asshole." ------------------- Original Review: ------------------- Was unfortunately a member of this "club" for roughly a year until I had to move out of the area. It's in a section of a warehouse and contains a handful of dated cardiovascular machines and even older free weight and cable machines. It's kind of a hodgepodge of equipment from the 70s, 80s and early 90s. You also have to physically leave the gym to go to bathroom near the tennis courts. I never really saw a maintenance or sanitation worker, but hey, I didn't care because I knew my situation was temporary. But then when I had to leave town and cancel my membership, the owner refused to stop charging my credit card, so I canceled it. They then stuck creditors on me. Real classy. Too bad none of the money they squeeze out of people gets reinvested in the place. I would not recommend this place. They used to have two other locations but those went belly up (probably because they treated their customers the same way at those "Clubs")

She's still very shy and standoffish doing some of the activities but I love that the instructors are attentive and offer to help her however they can and encourage her a great deal. She's definitely begun to come out of her shell. The other kids in her class are also lovely - I can tell several of them have been doing these classes for a while and they are very sweet with my daughter and exhibit great team work / sportsmanship, which I feel can be attributed at least in part to these classes & the instructors, so that's awesome. The facility is large, bright and clean. Staff members are friendly and helpful. I'll probably sign my daughter up again in the future for more classes!

However, I don't think the behavior I witnessed should be acceptable on any day. This was the worst group fitness instruction I have ever seen. She taught the BodyPump class. She did not give her name, but I eventually saw it on their schedule. I've taken classes at many gyms, including the YMCA, Gold's, Anytime Fitness, and Crossfit boxes. Never once did I question the instructors qualifications or intentions at those organizations. The instructor I had didn't even introduce herself. Didn't once give a quick overview of the class for anybody that may be a newcomer. I found this to be not only unprofessional but rude to those who may be intimidated by group fitness. This woman, who is not even a certified personal trainer, began to berate me by calling me out in front of the entire class on her mic. She told me I "wasn't strong enough" for the weight I was challenged by but in total control of. I've been in powerlifting for several years, so I've been training with heavier weight and therefore have developed the strength necessary. She continued to call me out in front of the class, saying "you! You in the back! I don't care how strong you are!" This is a weight-training class for "all levels." How hard would if be to simply approach the participant and quickly ask them how they're doing? This person had zero qualifications based on my research nor did she know my fitness background to have the right to question my ability. Once again, I've been to many group fitness classes, they were all respectful and encouraging with the proper education and qualifications. I hope nobody else experienced this "trainer's" lack of etiquette.

I loved how everyone cleaned up after themselves and the 30 Minute circuit was an actual circuit at Planet Fitness back in the day. Now even regulars who've been going to this gym for years seem allergic to cleaning up their sweat, and it isn't enforced at all. I don't even see staff cleaning after themselves when they workout. The quickest way to offend those in the circuit area is to ask them if they can move so you can actually circulate. I haven't asked the staff to enforce it because they don't do that either when they are working out. The first time I joined the gym there was someone who tended to peek into the circuit area. She would say she didn't mind people choosing not to do the circuit but they needed to be mindful of those who are trying or she could help them find similar equipment to use outside of the circuit. She'd ask people to wipe down equipment before moving on If she saw them walking away. There is nothing like that at all now. Nothing is enforced. Equipment hogging throughout the gym can be annoying, especially if the person is just sitting and FaceTiming or watching TikToks for a half hour. I don't remember that being an issue when I first joined. There are a few customers who might try to claim three pieces of equipment by doing stuff like putting a phone, water bottle, and a key on each. I wish staff didn't allow that, but most customers are fine if you ask them if you can move their stuff for whatever amount of minutes you'd like to use the equipment. I've actually met most of my gym buddies that way. Ironically, I think most hog just to preemptively protect their workout time from the real hoggers. The only place I've really received pushback asking for someone to move their things has been in the circuit area. Most of the customers are friendly or at least neutral. There are times sexual harassment can be a bit much, but I've noticed most like that don't tend to stay at the gym long. The air can be hot and stuff for a gym, but I tell myself that's how PF keeps costs down. Staff are friendly. It isn't uncommon to see someone walking around with a Swiffer or a mop. The bathroom and changing area is almost always reasonably clean relative to the amount of foot traffic in and out. If it isn't clean when I walk in, it's clean by the time I leave. Gyms with much lighter foot traffic aren't as diligent about keeping the bathrooms clean. One thing I like about the renovation is that I feel as if there is more space to stretch and stuff without getting in anyone's space even at peak times. I never realized that I had been accumulating points to get free stuff at the gym until a staff member told me the program was going away. There wasn't really anything to get because others had been redeeming their points. That was a bummer because I had a ton of points. There is no more free pizza these days. It's been gone many years, but I still miss my slice of white. I appreciate the Tootsie Rolls, though.
