I reunited with college friends with dinner in the Upper East Side. My friends who are Indian recommended this spot as they have dined here several times. This restaurant has been around for over 20 years so they must be doing something right. Service could be better. Food was good and ambiance was ok but better than most spots in Queens. Standouts were the fried okra and fried shrimp.

A surprise find near the Roosevelt Island Tramway station in New York. Chola is actually a Michelin recommended restaurant. The prawns on sizzling plate are excellent: tender and juicy. Great upscale ambiance. Good service. Though their accent made it a bit hard to understand if they were serving goat or something else.

Excellent service; fresh delicious, piping hot food! Lychee martinis perfectly balanced, not sweet! Chicken dishes perfectly prepared!

    Good portions!

Came here for lunch with friends the day of the NYC Marathon. Beautiful interior with excellent service. Complimentary pappad is provided with the meal. We started with the chili paneer which was excellent! Great texture and the perfect amount of spice. We then followed with the rasam, 3 curries, onion kulcha and rice. All delicious. Good spot for both vegetarian and vegans - something on the menu for everyone. Highly recommend!

Absolutely delicious food and amazing service ! We tried the Dak Bungalow Murgh Curry and the Melugu Kozhi Chettinad. Both were exceptional!

A recent Yelp friend request read: I saw your reviews on the Restaurant Reviews group and was really impressed with your knowledge of food. I'm not sure about that as although Gayle and I enjoy our share of dining establishments, we definitely don't have the palate to run with the culinary elite. Which brings us the Chola, voted by my dear Wife and I as the best meal we experienced during our 3 week trip to NYC and Canada. Gayle also gives Chola her coveted (and seldom awarded) - "Lick the Plate" prize. We found Chola via on online search (from our Hotel room) for nearby restaurants. This place was a bit of a schlep, but well worth it for the exercise and what was to come. It's just past the out-of-business Indian place next door. Here's what we enjoyed: - Bombay Breeze Martini (Gayle) - Taj Mahal Beer (Eric) - Basamati Rice - Lata Shetty's Kori Gassi (Gayle) - Aunt Murli Shrimp Malai Curry (Eric) The last dish in particular was outstanding. It was most enjoyable to move beyond Chicken tikka masala. Our table was nice, the service was attentive with pride of ownership, and our evening together sparkled. Things went so well that I should have proposed marriage to Gayle again!

My friend came here for dinner. This place has an elegant interior and peaceful ambiance. They serve elevated Indian cuisine. Instead of getting my usual Mango Lassi, I decided to try the Indian coffee. This was mixed with milk and had faint aroma of spices. The coffee was smooth and creamy. My friend and I shared the Garlic Naan, which was pretty good, but didn't have enough garlic taste for me. It was nicely buttered, as well as slightly crispy though. For my entree, I ordered the Lamb Biryani, topped with bread, which I absolutely loved. The bread was soft and delightfully warm. The Lamb Biryani was delicious, but a bit spicy for me, so I took bites with the raita (yogurt sauce), which definitely helped. The lamb was wonderfully tender, well seasoned, and plentiful. The rice was perfectly cooked, full of boldly flavored whole spices, along with garden herbs. The combination of rice and lamb made for mouthwatering bites. I also tried the dessert, Gulab Jamun, which are kind of like warm milk based balls in sweet soup. It only came with 2 balls in a sugar syrup with cardamom, rose, and coconut. The balls were sticky, chewy, and satisfyingly yummy. However, the syrup it came in was too sweet even for me. Service was solid. Our waiter was welcoming and attentive. Prices are on the expensive side, so I would only return once in awhile to treat myself. Next time, I would like to try the Lata Shetty's Lobster Ghee Roast or one of the Fish dishes, and of course, the Mango Lassi.

    Malai Kofta, excellent !

Went shopping for a mattress which is always a stressful decision and was ready for a late lunch. Walked around the corner and found Chola, and was pretty happy we did . Smart, tasteful interior . Excellent service and really exceptionally tasty dishes! I've eaten in a lot of Indian restaurants and this would definitely be one of the best. Lots of vegetarian options as well as vegan options which is great!

However, we never really got to it, having been busy exploring the Semmas and Bungalows of the city. On a cold Saturday evening my partner and I decided to give Indian Accent a shot - got rather last minute reservations over the phone. They were kind enough to accommodate us for a 7 pm slot, and once we got there we were seated immediately. We chose the four course menu, and found each course to be better than the one before! The shorba (soup) and garlic kulcha amuse bouche was a nice touch to get things started - loved the tiny terracotta mugs. Proceeded onto the shakarkandi chaat and the chilly pork roti - the former reminding me of the delectable street food in Delhi winters with the latter being a very good Indian rif on birria tacos. The star of the show for me was the Tofu medu vada - so unique and flavorful and melt in the mouth! I've not had anything quite like it before. My partner had the wagyu kebab that he said was excellent! For mains we had the chicken malai and the paneer - both tasty, but by this point we were already so full, and had to get most of the mains to go. But because there's always room for dessert, for our final course we scarfed down doda barfi with ice-cream and sticky toffee banana pudding - both of which were finger licking delish! Our service was great too - Ty our server was so nice and had the best recommendations. I'd have never gone for the tofu medu vada among all the other options and he urged me to, and it really turned out to be the highlight of my meal. The cocktails were good too. All in all, I think this is such a nice upscale Indian dining spot for a night out in the city. Having tried most of the other trending newer spots, i think Indian Accent sits right among the top! I'd highly recommend and cannot wait to be back!

So Annapurna Bhavan had my curiosity before I even walked in. The ambience was good. They don't take reservations, but we were seated as soon as we walked in. Sadly, the food didn't quite deliver. THE GOOD The dosas were well-made and honestly the highlight of the meal. Crispy, properly thin, no complaints there. THE NOT-SO-GOOD Ordered a Rose Milk. Got a rose lassi. These are two completely different things -- rose milk is a light, chilled milk drink; lassi is a yogurt-based beverage. Not a small mix-up if you know South Indian cuisine. The dahi vada was a letdown. It hadn't been soaked in yogurt nearly long enough -- the vadas were still firm, which defeats the whole purpose of the dish. Authentic dahi vada should be pillowy soft. A lot of the menu leans heavily Americanized. The oothappam topped with cheese and jalapeño is a prime example -- it's more Tex-Mex than Tamil Nadu. Fusion is fine, but don't call it traditional. BOTTOM LINE If you're in the neighborhood and craving something South Indian-adjacent, it's convenient and the dosas will do the job. But if you're someone who grew up eating this food and wants the real thing -- you'll probably leave a little disappointed. The location is great; the authenticity needs work.

The star of the show is Jaz herself -- the owner, hostess, and bartender all rolled into one wonderfully warm, charming British woman who somehow makes you feel like you've been a regular for years within thirty seconds of walking through the door. She's the kind of host who remembers how you like your chai and makes the whole room feel like her living room. Now, the food. The Chana Masala is deeply spiced, rich with tomato and chickpeas, the kind of dish that makes you question every mediocre version you've had before. The Saag is silky, fragrant, and genuinely soulful -- spinach that actually tastes like something. And the Onion Kulcha? Pillowy, caramelized, absolutely yummy -- the kind of bread you'll be tearing into long after you're full. The flavors here are the real thing -- bold, layered, and unapologetically authentic. This isn't watered-down, please-everyone Indian food. This is the genuine article, executed with care and a distinctly British-Indian sensibility that you rarely find outside of London. Every dish tastes like someone's nana's recipe, if that nana happened to be a brilliant chef. Do yourself a favor: add some spice to your life and get yourself to Jaz Indian Cuisine. Hell's Kitchen doesn't know how lucky it is.
