This place is a joke -- where do I even begin? We made reservations for a table on the covered patio this past Friday at 5:30 p.m. My wife, our two kids, and I arrived right on time, and the patio was mostly empty: two tables of four were occupied, while five other tables of four sat empty, along with a few high-tops and seats at the bar. The host was a bit gruff, but initially it didn't seem like a big deal. She seated us all the way in the back of the patio, directly in the path of the setting sun. Since there were plenty of open tables in shaded areas, we politely asked if we could move. We were told no because those tables were "reserved." We reminded the staff that we also had a reservation and asked why we couldn't sit at one of those tables instead. It's not like we walked in without one expecting special treatment. The host just kept repeating, "I'm sorry, but those tables are already reserved." They offered to move us inside or to the front side of the restaurant, but refused to seat us anywhere else on the covered patio. After more back-and-forth, the host finally relented with an annoyed, "That's fine, we can just adjust," and walked us over to a table that had technically still been occupied moments earlier. We then awkwardly stood there waiting for the diners to gather their things and leave while the staff rushed to clean the table. Once we sat down, the host came back out visibly upset, loudly rearranging and slamming tables while muttering to herself -- the only word I clearly caught was "unbelievable." She was obviously unhappy with us. The absurd part is that the "adjustment" she made was incredibly simple: she turned two four-top tables into a two-top and a larger table seating seven. Even after that, two other four-top tables remained untouched. During our meal, one of those tables was given to a mother and her young son, and the other to two dads and their daughters. So I'm still not sure why we were treated as though accommodating us was impossible. The rest of the staff honestly seemed just as uncomfortable with the situation as we were. The food itself was fine, but at that point we probably should have left. I've never been treated with this level of disrespect and disdain at a restaurant before. I honestly don't understand why the host was so determined to stick us in the back. Was it because we had a baby? Or because we didn't fit the racial profile of the clientele they want to attract? Either way, we won't be back. read more

I'm afraid the quality of the service here has really dropped off recently. Two recent visits suggest that the servers are not being well trained or not paying attention. Easy to fix but someone needs to pay attention. We ordered a salad, pizza and a hamburger. The salad, which should have come first, came with the burger, followed by pizza. We waited for a few minutes (as the food cooled) so that cutlery and napkins and plates could be brought to the table. Water glasses were never refilled. Requests for extra napkins and a pizza box at the end required reminding. And, when the bill came, and we suggested that the server take away the plates, he seemed confused so we literally had to hand him the plates so that we could put our pizza in the box and sign the bill. I suggest to management that you provide a refresher training to some of your servers. This is not an isolated incident. Happily the pizza and hamburger still taste pretty good. I don't think there's any probability that this wonderful neighborhood restaurant will fail but they really could use better service. It has affected the enjoyment of the meal. read more

Holy shit! This place did not disappoint! A very casual restaurant - don't let the vibes fool you. The food is absolutely sensational! Service was quick, detailed and food came out super quick! "Little Beast: Where the Pizza is Great and My Kids Became... Little Beasts" Little Beast is a perfect name for this place, because my kids turned into actual little beasts the moment we walked in. While I was trying to decide between the salad (meh--could've used more veggies, less dressing) and the surprise Detroit-style pizza (delicious, though Emmy Squared still holds my heart), my kids were busy hosting the "Running and Screaming Olympics" between the tables. Thankfully, salvation came in the form of the kids' pasta. They inhaled it so fast I'm not even sure they tasted it, but hey, silence is golden. The staff handed us paper and crayons, which turned into a "trace your hand" art contest that bought me at least 8.5 minutes of peace. After that, the cupcakes arrived--aka my second wave of parental bribery--just before the kids resumed their cardio training around the restaurant. Despite my feral offspring, the food was good and the pizza was a solid. If you have kids, bring bribes. If you don't, come for the pizza and enjoy the show. read more

I took my grandson to this restaurant for a farewell dinner before he goes to college. The food was super delicious especially the cheese bread that melts in your mouth. It was a very generous portion and truly with the salad that was plenty to eat but we didn't know that and we had ordered a pistachio pizza that was so delicious. It's a delicious balance of crispy crust over dense, cheesy, saucy goodness. The fresh squeezed juices have creative flavors like blood orange and sides like street corn are made more interesting with a topping of hot Cheetos. The restaurant is kid-friendly, with good patio dining space -- great for both avoiding COVID and feeling a little less bad about your messy children. The service has always been friendly and decently fast, barring the busiest weekend dinner crowds. Review of Red Velvet Cupcakery only. I used to make the trek downtown to get these cupcakes from their flagship bakery store. So glad I don't have to do that anymore as there's a dedicated spot inside Little Beast that sells Red Velvet Cupcakery's goodies. You can't miss it; it's well indicated with signage. The cupcakes are still fab. The cupcake called Southern Belle is the signature red velvet cupcake that's been in production since 2008 (that's when the bakery first opened). It's still very good. Another winner is Summertime. It's light and airy with a nice touch of lemon and coconut. Arrive earlier rather than later because supplies can run low. The bakery doesn't try to do too much and that's to their benefit. They stick with what they do well -- and create it over and over again. Also, they only make cupcakes, hence the word "cupcakery" in their business name, not bakery. read more

A very cute monster theme that's colorful and omnipresent made for a cute and comfortable experience. Seems like a great neighborhood family restaurant that's kid-friendly. Ordered a Detroit deep dish and a regular pizza. A few cocktails to go with it, and bakery cupcakes that were conveniently sold in the same establishment. The deep dish pizza was deliciously cheesy, but controversial. Why? Because the crust was quite thin and the toppings were layered between cheese (at least in the one we got) so it almost felt like a cheesy lasagna-pizza. Delicious, though! Overall very satisfied with all the pies ordered for our #dcpizzatour. It was a birthday event, and so as soon as we ordered, I went and reserved a few cupcakes for our birthday boy. I was pleased with the number of options to choose from, and picked a number of his favorite peanut butter chocolates flavored cakes, along with a birthday cupcake. By the time we were ready for the cakes, it was late and we were told the cakes were on the house! My fiancé and I ordered from here last night on GrubHub as it is one of the higher rated pizza places that delivers. The menu has both traditional style and Detroit style pizzas. We love Detroit style with the thick baguette crust, square slices, and tomato sauce on top. It is somewhat similar to the Chicago style pizza we love, however Detroit style has become much more common in DC and Maryland. Due to our love for the Detroit style pizza we ordered both the Greenfield Village and Red Wing. We first ate the Greenfield Village, named after the original Ford campus near Detroit, which had all sorts of veggies we love including artichokes, spinach, mushrooms, green pepper, and basil. From the first slices of our pie we find the quality beats other Detroit style pizzas we've had from Emmy Squared, Underground Pizza Co., and Manny & Olga's (which is the most underwhelming). The Red Wing, named after Detroit's hockey team, surprisingly was even better yet more simple with just garlic, oregano, and burrata cheese. The very thick fluffy caramelized crust reminds us of the best pizza we had in Chicago during my post-surgical rehabilitation there from Pequod's and Labriola. Perhaps they should try making their own Chicago style as well as the options lack for that in the DC area compared to Detroit style. read more

Menu was rather limited in my opinion. Stopped in for a little father and son time. We ordered "the works" pizza. You can tell that it was fresh but they definitely "shake the spoon" in this establishment. Toppings and cheese were real and quality products but on the skimpy side. $17?bucks for a thin and skimpy pie seems unreasonable. We all know that pizza is cheap eats. My family liked the leftover pizza but my daughter complained about the tough crust. My son ordered a $16 sandwich with ham, eggs and it was really cheesy. It was different and it tasted pretty good but $16 for a sandwich that included some very different but delicious potato wedges. $17 for a pizza and $16 for a sandwich seems a little odd to me. Lastly, we wanted a little dessert so we ordered a half a dozen ($20). In my opinion, my vanilla bean was not very good. It was hard and it tasted like cornbread. My family never even really ate the other five cupcakes. I think we ended up throwing them away. This spot is truly a hidden gem! This is a place where you can spend quality time with your friends and family over the amazing food. Beautiful decor with cute little beasts painted over the walls, make this spot much more fun! Not to forget, they have this patio which is covered. Luckily, we got a table in the patio itself. My friend and I dropped by on a whim - we had actually been on our way for a socially distant outdoor coffee when we walked by Little Beast. Omg the Detroit (deep dish) pizza was delicious! From the crunchy edges to the gooey cheese to the blobs of sauce on top, this was a stellar pizza. I brought a piece home and heated it up the next day...and it was just as delicious! My only wish would have been for a bit more sauce, but that's just a preference. From the pandemic perspective: My friend and I sat outside - the tent was open to provide ventilation and the server wore a mask the whole time. The people around were masked except when eating (mostly), and were well spaced out so we didn't feel crowded. I had to use the restroom and boy, was it clean! Delicious Margherita Neapolitan Pizza! You can taste the charred embers on the wood-fired pizza crust. The bottom is cooked all the way through. There were a couple of large air bubbles and missed out on that scrumptious rich mozzarella cheese and sweet tomato sauce, not a big deal. The pillowy crust was a little dry, but had a nice large lip which was a bit thicker and doughier than typical Neapolitan pizza. I love a good crust! The pizza was one of the best Neapolitan spots in DC/Maryland. The personal pizza is small with only 4 slices and not really meant for sharing. My hubby and I split one and felt satisfied, but saved some room for ice cream in Georgetown. Can't decide between pizza and tacos? For a limited time, Little Beast has partnered up with Taco Xochi. I wish there was a link with Taco Xochi menu on Little Beast's website. I would have gotten a stack of tacos with my pizza. Next time! The first time we went to little beast, we had a wonderful dinner on the patio. We were blown away by the delicious Detroit pizza! Really upset that the second time was an absolute mess. I ordered delivery (decided on that because they said their drivers were restaurant workers, not Uber or Dash). I made the initial call at 6:36pm, was told 20 minutes to make and 10 more to get it here. At 7:17pm I called to check in, because I live in an apartment building and sometimes deliveries are difficult because of our numbering system. During this call, I was told that they had just pulled up and would be there shortly. At 7:35pm, I call to tell them it's still not here. Her response is the driver is outside. I run upstairs, take the pizza and realize it's cold. It was apparent the driver was sitting in the car for almost 30 minutes, waiting for me to come get it. She didn't call to tell me she was there (after the restaurant confirmed my number twice). Now, an hour after the initial call we received our cold, oily, soggy crusted Detroit pizzas. I am so disappointed and sad. Steer clear of delivery. read more
