    Diavola pizza and Mortazza sandwich
    Leizle A.

First time here and it doesn't disappoint. Place was popping, definitely a neighborhood favorite. The whole anchovies with the Caesar salad were perfect. The Mortazza Sammy has delicious, and the pizza was piping hot! Cupcakes 10/10 always a better experience when you can share with a friend. Come hungry, leave happy..

Ate it so quick, forgot to take a picture of it whole...it was so good.

Are you looking for great Detroit style pizza? Then look no further. Easily one of my fave pizza spots im DC. The crust is flavorful and light, just like foccacia bread. Staff was super nice. Great chill spot for some yummy food.

I'm afraid the quality of the service here has really dropped off recently. Two recent visits suggest that the servers are not being well trained or not paying attention. Easy to fix but someone needs to pay attention. We ordered a salad, pizza and a hamburger. The salad, which should have come first, came with the burger, followed by pizza. We waited for a few minutes (as the food cooled) so that cutlery and napkins and plates could be brought to the table. Water glasses were never refilled. Requests for extra napkins and a pizza box at the end required reminding. And, when the bill came, and we suggested that the server take away the plates, he seemed confused so we literally had to hand him the plates so that we could put our pizza in the box and sign the bill. I suggest to management that you provide a refresher training to some of your servers. This is not an isolated incident. Happily the pizza and hamburger still taste pretty good. I don't think there's any probability that this wonderful neighborhood restaurant will fail but they really could use better service. It has affected the enjoyment of the meal.

Holy shit! This place did not disappoint! A very casual restaurant - don't let the vibes fool you. The food is absolutely sensational! Service was quick, detailed and food came out super quick! We had the autumn salad, smash burger and the red wing pizza (Detroit style) and each dish was phenomenal! The burger was juicy and flavorful! The pizza crunchy and delicious! Even the salad had was insanely good! Will definitely be adding this place to our regular list!

Great pizza and nice patio for kids to run around. Service was a little spotty with drink refills but not too much of a biggie. Would come back!

Have you ever wondered what the food tastes like in heaven? Well, look no further. If you tried to build the food equivalent of a fantasy league, it would be everything on this menu. So delicious. Their Detroit style pizza is the closest thing. I have found anywhere in DC to a true deep dish pizza. It just blows my mind. They have so many interesting and quirky items on the menu. Well worth a visit, followed by many return visits.

    Red Wing

Came in for a late lunch and ordered the Red Wing -- our first time trying Detroit style pizza and we were not disappointed! The bread was fluffy and paired well with the burrata and tomato sauce. It took a little bit for us to get our food but we did come in at an off hour in between lunch and dinner. Looking forward to going back for more pizza soon!

The food was yummy, and they were very flexible when I asked for a custom food order. The waiters were also really kind and friendly.

Great Chicago style Pizza - easy to share an order with someone and still be full. One if the best Caesar salads in the area.

Duke's Counter - Wagyu burger and elote.... Yum

Jeeeeeeeezus... how did we not plan this better? So a…read morecouple of friends and I spent the day doing the full tourist thing at the Smithsonian National Zoo - walking miles, chasing pandas, melting in the sun - and by the end of it we were DONE. Hungry, tired, slightly delirious. We just needed somewhere close to sit, eat, and recover like normal humans again. Literally crossed the street and landed at Duke's Counter... and wow, what a save. First off, the vibe hits immediately. It's got that lively, slightly chaotic energy (in a good way), like everyone there just escaped the zoo too and is ready to refuel. We grabbed a table outside for people-watching, and honestly, that alone was part of the experience. Food?? Let me just say this: if you're even thinking about getting the burger... stop thinking and just do it. I got the Proper Burger and it was one of those meals where you go quiet after the first bite because your brain is trying to process what just happened. Juicy, messy, flavorful in every bite--no notes. You can tell they take that "best burger in DC" claim very seriously. We also ordered the elote to start, which was exactly what we needed after sweating all day--salty, creamy, a little tangy, just hitting all the right spots. One of my friends got a sandwich (I think it was the Cubano situation) and it was HUGE. Like, borderline "should we have shared this?" huge. Only minor thing--the fries were fine. Not bad, just not on the same level as everything else. But honestly, when the burger is that good, I'm not losing sleep over fries. Service was friendly, even with how packed it got. You can tell they deal with zoo crowds all the time, so they keep things moving without making you feel rushed. Random side note: after we got back and were still in "treat yourself" mode, we ended up ordering from Pressure Deliveries--clutch move to keep the chill vibes going after a long day out. Highly recommend pairing the two experiences if you're making a full day of it. Overall, this place felt like exactly what we needed without even planning it. Great food, fun energy, perfect location if you're doing the zoo or just exploring the city. Would I come back? 100%. Would I walk another 5 miles at the zoo just to justify eating that burger again? ...also yes

Server came by, not so much as a greeting or introduction, just a short, "do you know what you want?" Fine - no problem. We ordered two avocado toasts and side of fries to share. Now, the menu clearly says the avocado toasts are served with a "runny egg". Ok sure, no problem. What i did not anticipate was a half raw egg with the yolk swimming in a sea of translucent completely uncooked "whites". It was like a golden disc encased in a snot rocket. Ok, maybe that's their "runny". Slide it off the toast and press on - snail trail of mucus be damned. The avocado spread was great - bright, citrusy, and well seasoned. The "hot sauce" was likely from a bottle and could have been left off. The radishes would have benefitted from being tossed in lemon, salt and pepper. The image of the "runny" egg was too much so I ate half the toast serving and meandered to the fries. Not bad, crispy , hot, and...wait...sweet...something is off, I can't put my finger on it but at least it's not a raw egg. I keep eating. My kids looks at me and says, "do these remind you of funnel cake?" THAT'S IT - FUNNEL CAKE. We have both had enough, ask for the check. The server comes by gives me the clunky machine, I tap and put it down, he reaches for it and I say, it's processing, I still have to sign...and then he starts snapping his fingers...WHAT IN THE ACTUAL €¥($ ARE WE DOING RIGHT NOW?!? Never again. Never, again.

Eaten fresh at the gas station, the chicken was still steaming after I took my first few bites. I ordered it "spicy" and it was just the right level for me. Like Roaming Rooster's honey butter chicken sandwich, Nash and Smashed's also has cheese in it, which I think overpowered the honey butter oozing from the top of the chicken. The chicken itself, though, was delicious and juicy. I got a side of their creamy signature sauce in the bag, but I did not really need it since there was already plenty of sauce for me inside the sandwich. It probably would have gone well with their waffle fries had I gotten them. The sandwich alone was enough to fill me up. A big reason for me coming to Nash and Smashed was a 3.99 deal for the Oh My Thigh chicken sandwich that they advertised on their Instagram page. I was bummed to learn this location was not doing it. This gas station version of their menu didn't even have that chicken on it, so the worker had no idea what I was talking about. Just a warning if you see any deal on their social media page. There's stool seating on the side with a lovely view of the gas station and Connecticut Ave out the window. There was enough room for four to five people. Another comparison to Roaming Rooster, the chicken sandwich prices are a little cheaper than RR's. Only a few menu items sound similar, but Nash and Smashed has a larger selection of burgers, chicken buckets, sides, and drinks. FWIW some guys next to me raved about their hamburgers, especially the sauce.
