Our first experience with Plumbums was excellent - we had an emergency issue, Jim was able to come…read moreout within an hour or two and get it fixed, and he was on his way. When our pipes froze during the big storm this January (thankfully, without water in them), we decided to hire Plumbums again. That didn't go as well. Quality of work: The fixes Jim suggested (a series of individual junction fixes) seemed reasonable for the repairs needed, but in some cases replacing whole sections would have been more time- and cost-efficient (according to other plumbers we've had in our home who have seen the work done). And we needed four return visits within our first three days living in the house to address issues that had not been resolved or that popped up as soon as we turned systems on. One problem (heat running constantly on our first floor, making the house over 80 degrees in the winter) was unresolved until I researched possible causes myself and communicated that to Jim, who sent out one of his guys to implement the fix. Professionalism: We were frustrated by the lack of care shown toward our property. Jim's guys left plumbing debris (not just the stuff our homeowner's insurance requested, but just straight-up trash), food trash, and drywall dust in our basement and living areas. This means that the first thing we had to do after driving 3,200 miles to move in was clean up after them. Drywall was removed roughly in several locations, and although patching was not included in the estimate, the cuts themselves appeared unnecessarily sloppy (and our new plumber neatly cuts and replaces drywall as a matter of course, leaving the mudding to us, which is fine). Plumbums did work well with our insurance company to get our claim handled, and ultimately we have working plumbing. But our experience wasn't great.

He responded quickly, worked efficiently, and completed the repair much faster than I expected without sacrificing quality. What impressed me most was his professionalism and attention to detail. After the work was completed, the entire area was cleaned up so well that you could hardly tell any excavation had been done. The workmanship was excellent and he kept me informed throughout the entire process. If you're looking for a reliable, honest plumber who takes pride in his work, Joe is the person to call. I couldn't be happier with the service and would absolutely use him again.

I was told that there was another hose that needed to be replaced because it wasn't up to code. I was charged $700 for the replacement hose. The problem was not resolved, and when I called back to inform the plumber that the washing machine was still leaking, I was told to call an appliance tech because they don't repair washing machines. The plumber refused to refund me my money after I had explained that the leak had not been fixed, and the job was not resolved. Now I have to spend more money to have an appliance tech come out and assess the problem, and pay for any repairs. I was taken advantage of, for sure!

Just before the New Year this past winter we had Call the Bee (a plumbing company we'd used in the…read morepast) come out for a whole house main drain clog. We received a call back right away and they sent out a technician that afternoon. He was clean, courteous & upfront about the plan to clear the clog and the companies pricing. After the snake didn't clear the clog he used a camera and then a water jet to clear our line. Unfortunately the problem returned very shortly after and having lost faith that Call The Bee was able to fix our problem we called another local company. They came out same day, cleared the line and charged approximately the same price. Feeling like we shouldn't have had to have another technician out so soon and incur another charge, we reached out to Call The Bee and spoke with them. Yes, we should have given them a chance to fix the problem instead of calling another company but as I stated, we'd lost faith in them. But, we , I, was wrong. They (Call The Bee) were more than responsive to our problem. Took the time to hear us and wanted the invoice from the second company we called. Lo and behold one week later a check for the ENTIRE amount of our second plumber (slightly over $1,000) was sent to us. Call the Bee truly did all they could to rectify the situation and leave us as satisfied customers.

My heat pump was blowing warm air on cool mode and cool air on heat mode…read more After having checked everything that was suspicious and not being able to identify what was causing the problem and exhausted, I called Call The Bee. It was O/B reversing valve setting on the thermostat that was causing the problem. My stupid housemate changed the setting without knowing what it does. O/B reversing valve is something I couldn't think of as a possible cause. Nobody mentioned it in my search results and questions and it is not something intuitive. Without related knowledge, it looks like a setting that tells a heat pump to run in inverse. A technician named Jonathan came. He spent like 5 minutes at the thermostat and about an hour testing parts and went back to the thermostat, managed to run AC in cool mode, went to his car and stayed there, doing nothing work-related, for a little more than 30 minutes while his refrigerant pressure measuring device was running on my heat pump, then told me there was misconfiguration in my thermostat. He said my thermostat configuration was wrong and asked me total of $380 (which he said was 15% discounted price). Normally, I try to solve problems myself, but I was exhausted and didn't want to bother about the heat pump anymore, I agreed on $330. While he was diagnosing the cause and fixing the problem (rummaging, in fact), I saw many illogical behavior of him. 1. O/B reversing valve setting is the easiest thing and the first thing a technician should check when a heat pump runs in inverse. Jonathan did spend about 5 minutes at the thermostat right after he came in. At this point he must have known it was the wrong setting that was causing the problem. But instead of changing the setting and running the heat pump, he went on to test other parts. 2. He cut the insulation tape around the seams of my blower motor cabinet and tested blower motor. Why did he do that? Blower motor has nothing to do with heat pump running in inverse. 3. He checked inside the cabinet where my capacitor, contactor, etc. are installed. Does it have anything to do with a heat pump running in inverse? 4. He took out condenser fan and looked inside where my compressor was. What does it have to do with a heat pump running in inverse? 5. After he tested some parts, he asked me a few questions regarding my thermostat including if someone configured my thermostat recently. Is this simplest thing the last thing that comes to his mind? And he did not pay attention to my answer at all as if the answers do not matter at all and he already knew what was causing the problem. 6. After payment, when I asked him what was wrongly figured on my thermostat, he told me it was the installation setting and I had better not know the detail as, if I know, and thus somehow change the setting, the problem will occur again and I wouldn't know how to change the setting back and would have to call a technician again. Can you believe what he said? It's obvious he didn't want the customer finds out he charged a few hundred dollars for one small change in the thermostat setting. He probably guessed it right what was causing the problem when he heard the problem before he even departed to my place and confirmed that his guess was right at the beginning when he took a few minutes at the thermostat. What he did in my condo was all acting. Why did he do all the acting? 1. He thought asking a few hundred dollars just for changing a setting that takes 20 seconds was not something to be accepted by the customer. If a customer gets to know they can solve the problem that easy at their thermostat, they would try to solve the problem themselves. 2. He tried to make the customer think the cause of the problem is more complicated than it really is. That way the chance of a customer agreeing to his offer goes up. 3. He wanted to make the customer think he worked. This way, the money he will ask for fixing the problem would sound more reasonable. 4. If customer ever finds out the truth, he can claim he did necessary, or related work so the money he asked and received is kind of justified. 5. He tested parts to see if they need to be replaced so he can make money. 6. He had time to kill before next appointment. 7. etc. There are more. Why did he check refrigerant pressure twice? When not even once is needed? I don't want refrigerant leakage from my heat pump. Who knows if he drained out refrigerant when I was not watching? There is something I'm unsure of. He did something many times that looked like cutting or grabbing with a tool to the wires of my blower motor. I wonder what that was for. He cut my insulation tape, caused refrigerant loss, made me waste time and energy, made my floor dirty with outdoor shoes and changed one small setting and took $330. I don't like these conmen touch my equipment unless it's necessary. I hope everyone who deceives people gets cancer.
