When our pipes froze during the big storm this January (thankfully, without water in them), we decided to hire Plumbums again. That didn't go as well. Quality of work: The fixes Jim suggested (a series of individual junction fixes) seemed reasonable for the repairs needed, but in some cases replacing whole sections would have been more time- and cost-efficient (according to other plumbers we've had in our home who have seen the work done). And we needed four return visits within our first three days living in the house to address issues that had not been resolved or that popped up as soon as we turned systems on. One problem (heat running constantly on our first floor, making the house over 80 degrees in the winter) was unresolved until I researched possible causes myself and communicated that to Jim, who sent out one of his guys to implement the fix. Professionalism: We were frustrated by the lack of care shown toward our property. Jim's guys left plumbing debris (not just the stuff our homeowner's insurance requested, but just straight-up trash), food trash, and drywall dust in our basement and living areas. This means that the first thing we had to do after driving 3,200 miles to move in was clean up after them. Drywall was removed roughly in several locations, and although patching was not included in the estimate, the cuts themselves appeared unnecessarily sloppy (and our new plumber neatly cuts and replaces drywall as a matter of course, leaving the mudding to us, which is fine). Plumbums did work well with our insurance company to get our claim handled, and ultimately we have working plumbing. But our experience wasn't great.

After about 15 minutes of work I was told the condenser had to be replaced due to mice chewing the electrical wires. I could understand this. Here is where the issue comes in. The technician first said it would be $3400 to replace. He then went to his truck and came back to tell my wife it would actually be $8,000, but they added a discount so I would Pay $6,000. The total cost of the whole install (condenser unit + 4 wall units) was 12,000. So just to replace the condenser is over half the cost of the initial install. I called to complain and spoke with the service manager. The service manager essentially explained to me that this was accurate because if they did the install today it would be 23,000. So they evidently had a 100% price increase. I then explained the invoice showed the unit itself as 2,000 and then labor as 6,000. He explained to me that was untrue, that due to the new invoice system they have, they can just put numbers anywhere essentially, so I should ignore the invoice. I explained my frustration and how that does not make any sense and I am not paying 6,000 for a condenser and labor. He said he understood and would escalate it higher and I would get a call later that day or the next. It's going on 3 days now and I have not heard back. This company went from one of my top rated to near highway robbery. I cannot reccomend them to anyone at this point, and will need to look into alternatives to get my heat back in the winter.

Just before the New Year this past winter we had Call the Bee (a plumbing company we'd used in the…read morepast) come out for a whole house main drain clog. We received a call back right away and they sent out a technician that afternoon. He was clean, courteous & upfront about the plan to clear the clog and the companies pricing. After the snake didn't clear the clog he used a camera and then a water jet to clear our line. Unfortunately the problem returned very shortly after and having lost faith that Call The Bee was able to fix our problem we called another local company. They came out same day, cleared the line and charged approximately the same price. Feeling like we shouldn't have had to have another technician out so soon and incur another charge, we reached out to Call The Bee and spoke with them. Yes, we should have given them a chance to fix the problem instead of calling another company but as I stated, we'd lost faith in them. But, we , I, was wrong. They (Call The Bee) were more than responsive to our problem. Took the time to hear us and wanted the invoice from the second company we called. Lo and behold one week later a check for the ENTIRE amount of our second plumber (slightly over $1,000) was sent to us. Call the Bee truly did all they could to rectify the situation and leave us as satisfied customers.

I called this company this afternoon to schedule an appointment to have my sewer pipe unclogged. I was told that they would be here between 3-5 P.M. At 2:30 P.M., I decided I had time to go and make a deposit at my bank. At 2 minutes to 3, I arrived at my house to find that my mother, who is living with me because she's too old to live independently, allowed them inside against my wishes. My mother had no idea where the main sewer pipe was so, they had to go into my bedroom where there is a door to that small space. That means they also had to open the other doors to find it while I was not there! My bedroom is my personal space. It is my sanctuary. I don't appreciate strangers in there when I am not home. Who would? They should have asked if the homeowner was home. Then, they should have waited until at least 3 P.M. to see if I would be there and not have entered until I was there. That would have been the professional thing to do. I told my mother I didn't appreciate her letting them inside. Because my mother is 89 years old, she is hard of hearing so, I have to talk loudly. The man told me that I was being rude to her. I wasn't. We are very frank with each and always have been. That is the way we are. The man said that I should have more "respect" for her. I told him she should show some too. After all, it is my house and my bedroom she allowed strangers to enter. He told me that normally people complain when they are late and not when they are early. I did not complain that they were early. My issue was that they came into the house without the homeowner (me) being present. Then, the man was talking to my mother about the trees in the front yard and how they may be affecting the clogged pipe. I told the man that I was the homeowner, not her. At that point, he took offense at that and told his co-worker that they were "out of here" and that he never met such a "rude person" in all his life. They went down stairs and were whispering about my jogging suit and he called my jewelry "fake ass". It isn't but, that should not matter to him! He also called me a "punk". The girl, who was with him, for some reason, mentioned my "1998 Cadillac". I don't know what any of that had to do with my clogged sewer pipe. They accused me of getting the home from my mother even though she has never owned the home and didn't move in here until a while after I had purchased it. The house is in my name. Not hers. It was never her home, not that it should have mattered to him. He should have consulted with me, the homeowner, and not with her. They should have waited until I came home before entering. The girl inferred that I staged the whole thing to get out of paying even though I have thousands of dollars of open credit on my cards. They both left in a huff and didn't bother to clean anything up. Sewer water was on my bedroom floor. They left the back door wide open after leaving. The house became ice cold. My mother noticed it first and had to go to her bedroom. That is the way they treat the elderly? By freezing them to death? I don't recommend this company to anyone. WHAT A DISASTER!
