I requested an inspection on a 2 yr old Generac generator. After it was inspected, I was told the generator was 'burned up' and not producing power due to the absence of load shedding devices on my home's electrical system. One week later, I scheduled another inspection at the urging of the original Generac installer. The Generac is working properly with no issues without 'load shedding devices' or other modifications/changes. read more

I called SFX and found out they are now called Apex and combined with an air conditioning company. So now they can do electric and fix your air! That is good to know since these guys are really great! I called and Steven the owner answered and had a guy out when I needed it. I just had a fan to switch with another light fixture and I added 2 dimmers! The guys were on time exactly at 9am when I had a 9-10am timeline. So having them come at 9am was great! They switched the fan with the light fixture and did the dimmers in no time. Very nice guys and they worked really well together. A friend of mine recommended the owner Steven Fikes to me so I went in and asked for him specifically for some work I have been looking into getting done. I was told by a colleague that he was out on a sick day so I thanked him and left. Later that morning I'm notified by a family member that he had posted a video in a Facebook group in our community from his security footage of me walking back to my car in the parking lot, stating that "someone sent their pregnant wife in regards to her husband doing illegal work" and slandered me in the comments. As I am an 8 month pregnant wife, I have no idea what that was in regards to and believe he has me confused with someone/something else. Either way, this is by far the most unprofessional thing I have ever encountered and I am still in disablief how something so insignificant got recorded and put on social media. If I could give zero stars I would. I'm confused and embarrassed to say the least. If this is any indication of how this man conducts business, I would steer clear and far from this establishment. read more

Ok, I will, as I usually do in my reviews, preface this with a small personal disclaimer: I absolutely hate hiring home repair experts. On any home projects I have, I generally get three independent and separate estimates, which means, I have no less than three complete strangers walking through my house. Call me old fashion with a few bad experiences and some trust issues under my belt, but when I hire someone to come into my home and make repairs, I don't expect a litany of questions about my personal life and my family and where I'm from and .... you get the point. So needless to say, I've been sitting in my house for nearly two years without power outlets in both of my bathrooms. Yes, I've made procrastination a fine art, but truly, I didn't want to deal with another service repair tech. And you know what? I didn't have to. I called SFX Electric and immediately made contact with the owner (Steve?), who was clear, concise and conversational on the phone. He answered all my preliminary questions and talked to me about some of the inspection/install options. We scheduled an appointment and he came out. Service was so unbelievably quick, I almost didn't realize that it was actually an enjoyable encounter. He did a brief walk-through, brought in his materials, clicked and poked and turned a bunch of shiny tools, checked it for operation, adjusted it as needed, checked it again, and voila! I recently experienced a significant power issue and contacted Steven at SFX to see if they could come to my residence that morning. He was already engaged and could not respond, BUT he proceeded to stay on the phone and assist me in trouble-shooting the problem. He talked me through numerous steps as we investigated the problem. Ultimately, I had to contact another electrician who was available to respond, but the attention and concern for my family's welfare, as well as the amount of time he spent with me, went beyond simple politeness. So, even though SFX has not done an actual electrical job for me, I give them a high rating based on the customer service, professionalism, and concern shown by Steven, and will happily hire them if required. read more

My older home is on unrestricted land & built in the 80s by a man who clearly knew little about electricity. When different outlets quit working, I thought it was a circuit breaker. Nope. It was a wire connection in the attic that had failed--lucky it didn't start a fire! The wire connections in this house have black tape instead of wire nuts, and most don't even have a box! Apex was fair, competent, friendly, and knowledgeable. Stephen, a co-owner, is a Master Electrician (and veteran.) He had me call PEC (the electric provider) and get them to check at the pole & house 1st, in case it was "half power. If it had been, PEC would have fixed it and I wouldn't be charged. He could have easily come out & charged a house call fee, but is apparently a member of the rare breed of honest technicians. I asked for a quote to rewire my entire home, and Apex will be my 1st consideration. VERY pleased with their work and honest practices! read more

They had what they needed on the truck and advised me of a manufacturing defect that I could exchange the defective part to have a spare on hand in case of another failure. Hands down the best tradesman I have ever worked with! After a small electrical fire which also took out power to my AC, I was in desperate need of an electrician. Of course this took place when most places were closing for the day but, after about 8 calls, I came across Steven at SFX Electric. Hallelujah! Not only did he show up pretty quick, he nailed the issue down without hesitation. We own a very old house that needs some work. While we are game to tackle most projects on our own, electrical is not something we mess with. That said, Steven could have easily taken advantage and used a scare tactic to make me believe we would need a ton of work done or else we could be in danger. He did exactly the opposite! He is a truly fair and down to Earth person, and made it a point to let me know that he is not interested in selling me on things that we don't need and would rather prefer to be a trustworthy resource. He gave me some suggestions and let me know what could be improved, and what really didn't need changing. By the way, a lot of those unnecessary changes were strongly suggested on a previous quote by a different company in town, which came with an unnecessary price tag. Not only that, but we have a big electrical job we need done and Steven quoted us significantly less than that other company mentioned. Not only were he and his apprentice kind, professional and timely, I never for a second felt threatened with them being in my house without anyone else at home. It also brought me comfort to learn that he will not hire just any random person off of the street. He makes a point to primarily hire local firefighters and/or military veterans. I believe I heard him mention that he himself is a Veteran Marine. He was also in no rush and even encouraged me to ask any other electrical questions I had, which he answered accompanied by a few sketches so I would understand completely. Seriously folks, Steven is a truly honest guy with character that isn't trying to rake in a wad of cash, but cares more about your trust and business. I am sometimes guilty of relying too much on the quantity of reviews a business has on Yelp. Well I struck gold taking a chance on SFX Electric.....DO THE SAME! Horrible service!! I contacted SFX Electric to come give me an estimate on repairing some broken fixtures and some faulty receptacles. The appointment was made and I confirmed the appointment. We live 3 hours away and drove up to our new home to meet the electrician. He was confirmed and gave me an arrival time of 12. I received an email, around 12, saying he cancelled my appointment. This email came after I confirmed thru a previous email. I called to find out what was happening and spoke to Steve, the owner. After telling Steve that we drove three hours to meet him and it was a little upsetting that he would cancel a confirmed appointment, even after I confirmed it. instead of attempting to make things right he got a huge attitude with me and began arguing with me about what constitutes an estimate vs a bid. All I wanted was for someone to come look at my issues and help me figure how to get it fixed. This was apparently too much for Steve. He put more effort into arguing with me than he did trying to help. I don't have a lot of patience for excuses for crappy service and this must have upset Steve because he hung up on me. So we drove three hours for nothing. Thanks Steve. However, probably better because he probably is not the right electrician anyway. His attitude, his need to be right, his crappy customer service, and his habit of making excuses are not traits I look for in a service company. I recommend avoiding this guy and finding some one who can actually get the job done. read more

This review is a little belated. Our AC went out about 9:00PM last month. Called sFx. Steve offered to come out right away. We said in the morning was fine. He asked me to send a pic of the circuit breaker I suspected was bad, so he'd be sure to have a replacement on the truck if needed. Steve showed up on time, quickly confirmed the problem, fixed it quickly. He's knowledgeable and polite. Prices were fair. He offers a discount for active/retired military, which was appreciated. My electrical problem was very tricky! Parts of one room were out and an entire room next to a bathroom (which worked perfectly) completely down. Steven came out the same day and checked it out.
