APG Electric assessed my EV charger install arranged by Qmerit. The installation was part of the purchase agreement with Ford when I bought the vehicle. I was quoted a $790 permit fee by George from APG Electric. He claimed that the fee covered logistics, site schematics, and electric plans. He mentioned that if I want to cut cost, we could explore pulling the permit myself. Wanting to explore that option- I did my homework and learned that in addition to the $178 permit fee I also need some techinical paperwork to submit. I asked George about possibly getting the technical paperwork from them; he declined. He also mentioned that I am probably better off working with a different installer. Before I even had the chance to respond or discuss further, I got a notification from Qmerit telling me my project has been reassigned. I find this extremely unprofessional. I was simply exploring reasonable ways to lower my cost- something that George himself suggested. Instead of working with me, APG Electric backed out without a warning, leaving me to start over. I added a couple of more stars to acknowledge the effort George put into the project (i.e. load calculations), which didn't go unnoticed; I do believe George approached the work with good intent. I could not bring myself to go above 3 stars as the delay on my project (due to reassignment initiated by APG Electric) has caused quite a bit of added stress. TL;DR: APG Electric assessed my EV charger install through Qmerit and quoted a $790 permit fee. Great experience all around. I had an old bathroom fan that needed replacing (wiring was ancient), and these guys were right on time, super friendly, and knew exactly what they were doing. They explained everything clearly and gave me a couple of solid options without any pressure. Very prompt and helpful. I was out all afternoon and when I got home, my power was out. When I called APG, George provided me some quick diagnostic checks. When I didn't have success, George advised my to call PG&E and have them come out and check. He then said if PG&E was not able to solve the problem, to call back in the morning and he would come out the next day! PG&E came out about 1 hour after I called, and they were able to easily fix it! The corrected proposal mad it sound like he changed it to a fixed bid but when you get to the end he says he has the right to charge for extras. When I asked him what those extras might be, he wrote back that he needs to sever our ties. George and Alex kicked butt on all the electrical work. We had an extensive kitchen remodel of our older home in Bennett Valley. We had them install all new lighting consisting of can lights, pendants and a chandelier, along with new circuits, plugs, dimmer and regular switches. I've used APG Electric before but George was extremely helpful this weekend when my AC unit went out during this record breaking heatwave (a week of 100°+ temperatures). I replaced the filter, flipped the breaker for the AC, looked inside the fan unit outside to see if there was an obstruction, unplugged it to see if it would help reset it, and replaced the hallway thermostat because the display was off. It still wasn't working. It was impossible to get an HVAC company out because they were overwhelmed with appointments so I called APG Electric hoping they could help. George called me back and after giving him the rundown of what I had already tried, he told me to look at the fuse. He said the thermostat gets its power from the unit, so it could explain why the thermostat's display wasn't working. Guess what? It was the fuse. Yes! What an easy fix. I appreciate George's help since I would really prefer not to spend hundreds of dollars for someone to come out just to replace a $15 part. But even more, I was able to get my AC unit back up and running without suffering in the heat until an HVAC company could come out next week to look at it. Thanks George! read more
