One of the repairs, Sal showed me how he could reglue the sole, but the repair would slowly come unglued over time. I appreciated the honesty and went ahead with the repair, since he estimated it would still be years until the glue failed. This is a real old school shoe repair shop, and I like that you can see the workstation behind the front desk.

I took the shoes down the street to Old Towne Shoe and Luggage Repair--$30 for same service--still grossly overpriced but at least I'll have $5 more dollars in my pocket after the damage is done.

I was disappointed when the shoe repair spot at Langston Boulevard and George Mason closed a few years ago, so I'm incredibly happy that Golden Shoe is still around and going strong. I recently brought in a few pair of older Clarks. They are my favorite comfortable work dress shoes, but they had reached a point where they weren't quite right for business anymore. However, they still had plenty of life left in them. I took them to Golden Shoe for a full shine and restoration, and the results are fantastic. They look great now for a weekend or an evening out paired with blue jeans. This wasn't my first visit, either. Previously, I brought in my Doc Martens that I've owned since the 1990s. They handled that restoration perfectly as well. However, when revisiting this past week I was disappointed in the new cobbler and his lack of customer service. When I asked could he repair my sandals, he stated with reservation he could. Well this is truly his demeanor, because when I went to pickup my shoes and I asked him were they ready, he pointed to the shelf and asked me if I saw them on the shelf? I thought to myself, why am I looking for my shoes when I pay for a service you should go and get them! I looked for my shoes, saw them I grabbed them and then when I asked him why the heel of my shoe repair was not identical on both shoes? He proceeded to argue with me about the shoe repair. I told him this is not how you treat your customers when I ask you a question about my shoe repair, do not argue with me about it when I am paying for a service! As somewhat of a snob when it comes to good cobblers, I can say that Louis the owner, really knows what he is doing. I have brought many pairs of dress shoes, Mostly my Allen Edmond's into his store and have never been disappointed with the result. They take the extra time to make sure that the job is done correct, and it really shows in their end product. One of the big marks of the good cobbler are the finishing touches they put on a pair of shoes when they are re-sewn; they take the time not just to sew the bottom stitches on but also make sure they cut a groove before stitching. This adds about six months of life when having a pair of shoes resoled. Aside from dress shoes, I have also taken my Sperry Topsider's in to have the insoles replaced, and Luis seems to be able to add new life to a pair shoes that I would've thrown away. The products that they stock or a top-quality, and I often buy most of my polish, conditioners and shoe trees from their shop. I am a big proponent of supporting local businesses, especially people who have a skill, and take the time to do the job right. Give this little gem of a shop a try, you will not be disappointed!

She took the clog, said shoe polish won't fix it, and proceeded to buff it, eventually smoothing off the scuff. I proceeded given the number of items already in hand, but followed up again afterward and was not able to reach a resolution.
