I've had two pairs of leather shoes repaired at Sal's now, and would recommend the shop for quick and honest service. One of the repairs, Sal showed me how he could reglue the sole, but the repair would slowly come unglued over time. I appreciated the honesty and went ahead with the repair, since he estimated it would still be years until the glue failed. Took a brand new high end pair of boots that needed the speed hooks changed out as they were faulty from the manufacturer. The workmanship was horrible, the speed hooks are not attached to the leather and spin, plus the leather has been damaged to the point that I need to return them to the manufacturer. Awful. I am not sure of the guy that I encountered, so I will just call him Sal. He seemed to be very knowledgeable about shoes but I thought he was a little pricey. I told him that what he wanted to repair the shank of one shoe, was more than I paid for the shoes altogether. Needless to say, I didn't utilize his service. The shop is old and smells like shoe leather. But Sal does a variety of things in this shop. In addition to getting your shoe repaired, you can also get additional keys made and your belt adjusted with additional holes. The location is horrible and not easily accessible without causing a traffic back-up, but apparently it has been around for years so I am sure business is doing just fine. read more

I have been going here for years. I am a native to the area and have been going here since a child. They do great work and fast. Never have to wait long to get your repairs back. My husband has his shoes resoled here all the time and we also use this store for various repairs. The owner is always so very nice that is a pleasure to go in and see him. He goes over and above on repairs. I recently brought my boots in for re-heeling and noticed the tabs on the sides were fraying. I commented to myself out loud that I needed to trim them to make them look better. Well, when I got home and opened the bag to get my boots out, I noticed the owner had fixed them for me. Break the heel off on that thigh high kinky boot? Bring it to Sal. Face it. Like getting a flat tire on your bad ass Smart car...eventually you're gonna need a shoe fixed. I'm a fan because my intensely practical wife wore out a $400 pump made by some dude named Jimmy Shoe or Choo......or something like that. Before she could go in the back yard and pick some more $100 bills off the money tree and buy a new pair, I ran it up to Sal's for a fixeroo. Because I am practical and a cheap bastard to boot...I've had them hammer on new soles for my favorite pair of work shoes several times. Sal's fixes anything leather (they can even poke more holes in your belt to make it LARGER, big guy)....even luggage and probably that special leather gear you keep locked in the trunk under your bed. Get an extra key for that lock cut here too , you freak. Bottom Line: If the smell of leather gets you hot and bothered...send a friend in with your repair or load up on salt peter pills. read more

A solid 5 stars... My wife and I absolutely love this place. I think it is owned by a father son team. We have noticed this from our numerous trips there. They are very good about repairing my wife's high heals and the prices are very reasonable. I had them repair a ralph lauren leather jacket and it looks like a completely different jacket, it looks brand new. I mean it looks fantastic. Additionally, they are very good about giving us tips on leather use, how to clean shoes with water damage, etc. This store also makes keys and sells shoelaces and shoe polish. That is a big plus because my skechers shoelaces fall apart easily and I can get new laces here on the cheap. Highly recommended! read more

All other persons, living outside of the DMV, will not have the ability to utilize this outstanding shoe repair shop due to proximity. The prices are fair and consistent, the advice offered in reference to the repair and purchasing shoes is invaluable, and i they have never misplaced a pair of my shoes. I spend approximately $1,200 per year in the maintentance and repair of 75 pairs of shoes. I had recently bought a pair of shoes and one of the heels broke off on just the second time I was wearing it. (Never purchasing Jessica Simpson shoes again.) Since they were practically brand new, instead of throwing them away, I wanted to have them fixed. After doing a quick search on Yelp for a nearby shoe repair shop with good reviews, Sal's popped up! It's at a pretty convenient location for me, and there's plenty of parking in the back, which is easy to get in and out of. I dropped off my shoe to be repaired and it was ready in less than a week! The shoes feel good as new, if not better. It cost $12 for my heel to be repaired, but I'm sure that the price will vary depending on your shoe and the type of repair. They're also super friendly and I'm always happy to support local, independent businesses :)! read more

Best shoe and luggage repair in the region. These guys are real pros in a shop that's been around forever - and their experience shows. Excellent work, good value. Lots of shoe care and key accessories in the shop - I always come out with a stocking stuffer or some such! They just did a difficult rush job on a large piece of luggage my daughter needed for an overseas trip - really appreciated their understanding! - Look at the pic of the storefront, as their awning is a little worn and hard to see. That section of Little River Turnpike is not the easiest to make U-turns, etc.! read more

I've been going here for a decade to repair my expensive shoes. Mostly just sole work and replacing the bottoms of heels. I have to say the prices have really gone up! $14 just to put in a regular heel? But even still it's a convenient location in Annandale, and customer service is friendly. They also make copies of special keys that Home Depot won't do for you as well, so that's another plus. It's nice to have a mom and pop shop around that you can count on. read more

I went in on a snowy Saturday morning in early January to order a pair of Dehner boots, my first ever custom footwear. I've wanted a pair for more than 20 years, and finally decided to treat myself. Chris was working by himself in the back, but came out to fit me, and treated me as if my one order was an order for 50 pairs of boots. The shop has contracts for made-to-measure Dehner motorcycle boots for a bunch of law enforcement agencies (state, county, city) that are proudly displayed, but he treated me like I was his biggest account. He measured my feet ten ways from Sunday (and my left is different than my right, as the result of an athletic injury), and traced the outline of each foot. He showed me different sole options, and recommended a thin rubber sole instead of the more traditional leather sole - about the same thickness as leather, but would wear much better and offer better traction (at no extra cost). He showed me the cushioned insoles that he provides customers who order footwear to try (also at no extra cost). He even called his contact at Dehner while I was there to confirm the smallest details about the boots, to be sure the order was perfect. I won't have the boots for at least another month or more. But they'll be worth waiting for, and I'm sure they'll fit like gloves after being broken in, thanks to the care and expertise that Chris put into my fitting and order. For my future shoe and luggage repair needs, I can't imagine going anywhere but Sal's Shoe Repair. This shop provides the kind of old school customer service we usually wish there was more of these days. If you think that the American tradition of family-owned businesses that take pride in doing things the right way is gone, I highly recommend a visit to Chris (and his father) at Sal's. read more

Really like this place. They are friendly and they do a good job. I also get keys copied here and they always do it really well. I figured Home Depot or Lowes or Walmart might do a good job but they don't do quality work. Hence I drive 30 minutes out this way on purpose to get keys cut from them. Most recently had my shoes fixed and they were awesome and reasonably priced as well. Parking is a bit annoying but it's fine. It's all worth it. read more

The best place to get your shoes repaired. I've been to several places to get my shoes repaired. Of course, being a woman, wearing heels that get stuck in every crack or grate I walk over, I feel that a good shoesmith is a necessity. Sal's is a bit pricey, I must say, but they do excellent work. I've never had a single complaint. They are very friendly people and give you advise on how to take care of your shoes (even without selling products). I think the owner is the man who looks kinda like Santa Clause, but slightly thinner =) Oh, and conveniently, if you need a key copy made, they do that on the side too. All in all, their repairwork make my shoes last so much longer. I've had to throw out most of the shoes that I got repaired at other places soon after I got them repaired. Really disappointed to be one who had a bad experience here. Brought in a pair of boots and pumps. Heels of the boots look competently done but the proof will be in how long they last. The heel of the pumps are awful. I am kicking myself for straying from my go to in Arlington, Sam Torrey. It's just a disaster: the heel is black instead of brown , the material is a cheap looking cap and was not shaped in anyway. Fourteen down the drain and I'm definitely never going back. read more

The craftsmen at Sal's do excellent work. I brought in a pair of dress shoes, a western belt, and cowboy boots for a variety of repairs and alterations. They used solid materials, did the work correctly, and delivered on they day they promised. They were recommended to me by W.J. Colt Western Outfitters in Merrifield because cowboy boots can be tricky to work with. The alterations to the heels and repair of the arch was excellent. They called me to verify the color of the rivets and the length of the belt I needed shortened and explained the constraints concerning exactly how much they were able to cut off. It turned out perfectly. I highly recommend Sal's to anyone and will be a regular customer from now on. read more

I brought in some street shoes that I bought online into Sal's and requested sueding on the bottom for fast dancing shoes. 2 years later and many dances later, the shoes are holding up well. If you are a dancer, then this is your place to go! I was told these shoes had petroleum products in the soles and would not accept the adhesive, but they are adorable, kitty saddle shoes and I'm oh-so glad I went to Sal's. Great customer service. Plenty of free parking in back parking lot. An easy place to run in on a short lunch break and get one thing done. read more
