    Bones

I ordered goat biryani and I might as well have ordered "bone" biryani because it was full of bones and there was barely any meat on the bones. The dinner came right away, but it was cool and not hot and I asked for spicy. Their version of spicy is to throw a spicy sauce on top, which didn't cook in with the original meal. I've had good biryani before, but this was not good and I will not come back for biryani. That said, I ordered. raita also, because I didn't think it came with that only to find out it did. But that was tasty. I will not be back for the biryani.

I have been bragging about this place since it opened. Today I took my sister and her family with me, and it did not disappoint. The Tandoori Chicken was incredible!!! Hot and steamy served on a cast iron pan, very moist and delicious. Also had the Butter Chicken, and Chicken Vindaloo. Wonderful! Lots of sauce, perfectly spiced, generous portions. The mango lassi here is not to be missed. Fast efficient friendly service.

Cant go wrong with tikka masala rice and naan. The lamb was so good. Medium spice level was perfect. Will be back!

The masala dosa here was good. The two stars are for that dish only. The service was extremely slow. We were a table of 6 people and ordered 5 items off the menu and got there for breakfast. There was only one other table of 2 people who were also waiting for their food. Our food came out extremely late. They forgot our drinks ( chai) which we ordered with our food. After we were done when we asked for our drinks our server said he'll bring it and then disappeared. We never saw him again. We finally asked someone else to help us after waiting a long time and told them we just want to pay and will leave. In the mean time while we waited, another table got occupied and their food was out faster than ours but still no sign of our drinks or no apology or acknowledgement for the delay for our food or forgetting our drinks. It's not like the servers were rude but they were just indifferent and ignoring the fact that there was a huge delay with our order and didn't try to fix it. Again the masala dosa was good, as was the tomato chutney that came with the dosa but the sambhar was not authentic ( it had corn and peas) and the idli and vada were also not authentic. Vada was not crispy and was dry. We also ordered poori sabzi, and it was a complete miss. The pooris were thick and chewy and the sabzi only tasted of turmeric. The bathroom was very dirty and hadn't been cleaned and they were out of toilet paper.

    Butter Chicken and Shrimp Vindaloo

Apna Indian Grill recently opened just down the block from us so we had to check it out, and we were not disappointed! We dined in, and found everyone who works here to be lovely and friendly. Great service. There's lots of seating in the back (or front if you come in via Montrose). They were getting lots of takeout orders while we were here so they must be doing something right! We had the veggie samosas to start, then the butter chicken and shrimp vindaloo, everything was super tasty! We had medium spice and I would say it was perfect, not too hot. The breads were so delish I forgot to take a picture, but we had garlic naan and paneer kulcha. Everything looked great on the menu so it was hard to decide, but I have my eye on the street food for next time and lunch specials for a cheeky work from home day No need to drive up to Devon to get your fix of Indian food, Apna is a most welcome addition to the neighborhood!

LAMB BOWL (VINDALOO) & GARLIC NAAN
    Nathan G.

Got the lamb bowl lunch special with Lamb Vindaloo and Garlic Naan and asked for it extra spicy. Did not disappoint! Was very flavorful and spicy, and a nice sized portion. The vindaloo is more tomato heavy than some and had great flavor along with the tender lamb. Will be going again to try more dishes.

The chicken momo and lollipops are great shareable appetizers. The momo dish came with a wonderful sauce, and the chicken lollipops were very tender. Moreover, the interior of the restaurant was welcoming, and the staff were very friendly. This is definitely a spot I will come back to visit again and try more dishes.

We started with the chicken lollipops. The taste was decent, but apparently the chickens they use are roughly the size of sparrows. Next came the Bang Bang Shrimp. The chef might want to take a field trip to PF Chang's and try their Dynamite Shrimp just to see what the dish is supposed to accomplish. The momos were ordered as appetizers, which I assume means they're intended to arrive before the meal. Ours showed up just as we were finishing our entrées. Maybe they were traveling from Nepal on foot. The goat curry was actually pretty good, which briefly gave us hope. Then the garlic naan arrived and tasted suspiciously like something that had recently completed a successful career at Costco. If they have a tandoor, it's apparently being used for storage. To add to the experience, there was live singing. Unfortunately, the entertainment seemed to receive more attention than the food. My humble suggestion: spend less time rehearsing songs and more time rehearsing recipes. The grand finale? The morning after, both my son and I were dealing with indigestion. Nothing severe, but it was a fitting encore to an already memorable evening. I rarely write negative reviews, but when a restaurant charges premium prices, I expect more than tiny appetizers, delayed food, questionable naan, and a digestive adventure. The biggest mystery of the night remains how this place maintains such a high rating.

Dal makhani was also good. I think the naan were kind of mid. Didn't taste like they had a tandoor. It was kind of dense instead of soft/chewy. Well, it's a good place. I'll have to try out their downtown location. Hopefully more lively.
