My friend who lives pretty close to Devon recommended Thali Corner and I am sooooo glad I went. It is now marked as one of my favorites on my personal map. We tried their chicken dosa, aloo samosa, and mutton thali. I love dosas but I think I prefer dosas from a different restaurant in the neighborhood. It was a cold weeknight. 15 degrees F. I phoned in my order and then asked how long it could take to which the young lady responded twenty minutes. I arrive within twenty-one minutes buying only a quarter's worth of time at the parking meter thinking surely that would be enough time to grab my carryout order? Guys, why was I waiting an additional twenty minutes for food when nobody was in this restaurant? I hate when a restaurant draaaaaaags without giving any reasons. Thali shops have literal fast food. Not in the American sense but the foods are as simple as crepes (dosa) served with chutney. The other items would need more time. Curries, biriyani, etc Ordered an onion dosa and a masala dosa. Texture was different from what I'm accustomed to eating. But I'm wanting something similar to South Indian style. The onion dosa contained what looked like a full, medium sized onion. In Southie style it should be pan fried till brown, sometimes incorporated into the dosa or stuffed inside, this was barely translucent. Didn't slap. The masala dosa was mid. Didn't touch much. Hate throwing away food but.. Not wasting the stomach on barely good. Something about the texture of the dosa wasn't... It just wasn't good. One and done. If a restaurant offers dosa, it's gotta be great. Maybe their other foods are better? read more

This is a no thrills joint serving Indian cuisine. If you're looking for a casual and authentic bite, this is the spot for you. I heard they made great Chicken Biryani, but unfortunately they were out when I went. Something I don't think is talked enough about though is their chai - the best I've had in Chicago. Again, this isn't a classic sit down restaurant so don't expect to be waited on as attentively as you would somewhere less chill, but the staff was super nice nonetheless. read more

My partner and I came back to get thali here after having some of the best saffron chai we have ever had. We were not disappointed. The portions were very large and we probably could have split one thali between the two of us, but that's okay. Both the vegetable and chicken thali were very flavorful, fresh, and satisfying. Each selection was delicious and our waitress even gave us a different dessert on each so we could have a variety. Sahiba, our waitress, was so friendly! She is the one who sold us on the thali. She was extremely kind and attentive to our wants and tastes. We are very happy with our meal and are excited to return! read more

Okay, their chai truly is worth all the hype! It's a casual cafe and we weren't feeling a whole meal and their pre-prepared snacks didn't appeal as much to us, so we got chai and absolutely loved it! read more

My friend and I were excited to try Thali Corner for lunch based on good reviews. When we got there the person said we could get the chicken biryani because it was freshest and his chef wasn't there. That should have been our first clue to go somewhere else. When we got our "chicken" biryani it definitely wasn't chicken. It was maybe goat and barely warm. It obviously leftover from the day before. We should have asked for our money back, but just left instead. read more

Excellent, authentic Indian food! This place specializes in Thalis, which are platters with a variety of little dishes, which works out really well if you like trying different foods in one meal. I had a vegetarian platter and my husband had the chicken one. Both contain the same variety of dishes with the exception of I had two veggie "entrées," and he had one veggie one chicken. We weren't sure exactly what we were going to get, but everything turned out delicious. The different dishes and sauces go over rice or there's also a type of tortilla Called a "chapati," which was really fresh and delicious. Except we weren't crazy about the "butter milk," which is a watered down yogurt with herbs. I'm definitely glad we tried it though. Everything else was fantastic, fresh, delicious, super flavorful! They initially left the spicy condiments out, and we would not have noticed if we hadn't started googling the different dishes listed on the menu in each platter, when we realized they left the chutney out! When we asked for it, he told us it was really spicy, and we said we want it anyway, and it was really, really delicious! I'm so glad we asked for it! So if you're not Indian or Pakistani, just make sure you get all the dishes you're supposed to get. The atmosphere is very casual, you need to go up to the front to order and they bring it to your table. Also, the lighting is very bright, and they only have plastic silverware and plastic cups! However, the main dish is served on a metal platter so that was great. I might consider bringing my own silverware next time! At least their to-go container was not Styrofoam (it was, however, plastic). Still, the quality of the food made up for those negatives. I would definitely return! read more

I made a doordash order from here this evening. My husband is from Karnataka, and we had given up on finding good South Indian food in this city until tonight. We ordered idly, vada, upma, and the saag puri that came with halwa, choley, dahi, and achaar. Unfortunately, the saag was not available, but I received a very nice note in the delivery bag and a replacement of aloo masala. Everything was INCREDIBLE! I felt like I was eating at my Atte's house in Mysore. The sambar was very savory and just the right amount of spicy. The peanut chutney was perfect with the idly and vada. The puri was soft and delicious. The choley and aloo masala were extremely flavorful. The halwa was pleasantly sweet, but not overly so. I usually prefer to eat upma with sambar, but it was seasoned so well it didn't need the sambar. I will definitely be ordering again. I look forward to coming in person soon to try the rest of the menu! read more
