Spots that others like, I usually find certain things faulty like, food, service, price value, etc. Not the case here at Apna. The food is absolutely amazing. The butter chicken, the tandoori, the naan, the vindaloo. All types of Indian fares for all tastes. The butter chicken has perfectly cooked dark meat chicken thighs pared with the perfect amount of Indian spices that elevates your taste buds . The tomato selection and quantity is perfect, giving it the best balance of sweetness, acidity, savory, and spicy. My best friend ordered the vindaloo with lamb and she also said that it was spiced to perfection. Not too spicy but still packs a punch and is full of other complementary flavors. Beyond the food, the service is also top notch. The people here are nice and attentive, making sure that every step of the dining process is enjoyable. From entering, ordering, eating, rice refills, requesting water refills, to getting to-go boxes, etc. The staff was timely and attentive as well as friendly. Super worth it for the price as well! All in all, we enjoyed our food and was stuffed and ready to continue on our road trip. I would recommend this place if you are in the area. Rude customer service. I went with my wife and parents to this restaurant. First we had to wait for 10 mins to get attention from the guy in the reception desk as he was talking to someone on phone. He did not even bother to see that customer is waiting. For 5 mins I thought there is no one in the reception desk. Then he asked whether we want to seat outside or inside. As there were no space inside we choose for outside where he was not willing to turn on the heater. It was little chill and rain in December winter. We still wanted to sit but then he asked us to sit in high table where he can clearly see it's difficult for parents to sit on high level. When we asked can we combine two double sitter table , he clearly denied and asked us to sit separately. I don't know about food but we decided to got out and try another one for which he did not even try to hold customer. Instead he simply said go ahead and turn away. P.S. we tried Himalayan Kitchen few blocks away and they had excellent customer service. read more

During our trip from Sacramento to SB-- we visited this casual eatery with a fun and colorful ambiance. The decor has old Bollywood film posters- it reminded us of home . The staff and host were friendly and made us feel welcome! The food was delicious- we ordered the veggie nirvana, daal of the day and tandoori naan - and we loved it all. Each item was flavorful and freshly made! Their medium spicy could be a bit more spicy for our Indian palette but it may have been made for the general palette and spice levels. Their nimboo paani was refreshing and has hint of jaljeera or chaat masala which we enjoyed. We ended our meal with tasty gulab jamun- not too sweet but just warm and sweet enough to wrap up such a beautiful dinner! We cannot wait to revisit again or recommend to our friends. read more

This place made for an AWESOME Saturday night in (ah, Covid times). We're visiting from Orange County and both my fiancé and I were craving Indian food (our absolute favorite) that was within walking distance of the Airbnb. Enter Apna... Right on State Street by a bunch of other restaurants and cute shops, the takeout process was simple and convenient. Being able to order directly through Yelp helped a lot! Our order consisted of chicken korma, chicken masala, and butter chicken, along with an order of garlic naan. Each entree came with an equally sized portion of basmati rice, which was delicious. My ONLY complaint about all of this food is that the korma has raisins in it--at least, I think it was the korma that had the raisins in it. I was inhaling the food so fast, it was hard to tell. Anyway, other than the unwelcome presence of dried grapes in the dish, our takeout order was fabulous. We got the korma and masala mild after seeing reviews cautioning about the spice levels here, but I honestly could've gone up to medium for both, and I don't have much of a spice threshold. Beyond that, though, I'm not sure I'd be able to handle it. My fiancé got the butter chicken at a medium spice level, and that was about my limit. So if your palette is as pasty-white as mine is, definitely heed the reviews' warnings. It's too bad we don't live up here since this ended up being some of the best Indian food we've ever had. I ordered the Curry Fries as an appetizer and the mild Masla Chicken Curry (Tikka Masla) as my entrée with a side of regular naan bread and the garlic naan as well. Everything was so flavorful, delicious, and mild enough for me to handle! My favorite thing hands down were the curry fries! They were waffle cut, crispy, and covered in a perfect amount of curry. every time i come to apna, i wonder why i don't come more often. the food is incredible, the curry fries never disappoint. i love their complimentary chai tea and my all time favorite beverage at any restaurant i've ever been to, the mango lassi. it is so delectable--its gone within a few seconds because i drink it so quick--its that good. their service is great, always so respectful and polite. and their bathroom is amazing! a great mirror with chalkboard as the wall-- i love looking at all the messages. there is nothing bad about this restaurant, truly my favorite. read more

Both were super creamy and delicious, the Chicken Tikka wasn't too sweet, and the chicken was so tender. The garlic naan came out hot and fresh, and it was just as yummy as it is sexyyyyy. They are generous with their portions and I was able to take the other half of my Chicken Tikka Masala to go and have it for dinner as well! I have food allergies and am very sensitive. Husband and I did spontaneous trip to Santa Barbara and it was after 2pm and I hadn't eaten all day. We drove from LA to go to Blenders for their Peanut Butter smoothie ( it's been some years since we've been to one of their locations). Anyways, I'm hungry and Apna is next door. My father is from India my mother black. So I knew already I would find something I can eat. If you have gluten allergies get the Potato tikki!!! THE BUSINESS!! I was not expecting tamarind chutney (well that's I would call it lol) . The contrats of sweet, spice with the fresh crunch of the cabbage was IT!
