Pretty solid place - especially with a view of the ocean like it has. Ordered the SHRIMP CEVICHE to start, followed by the PAN SEARED SCALLOPS as my main. It's sad you only get four little scallops for nearly $45. At that point I could have taken four steps to the ocean and caught my own. But overall, flavors were good.

Anyone in the Santa Barbara area should stop here for a meal! The views are amazing, especially at sunset. Huge outside patio to enjoy the beach. Great staff on top of everything. The food is excellent! First stop on our honeymoon to grab dinner before getting to Cambria. We both got a cup of New England clam chowder, and shared a shrimp cocktail. The clam chowder was great, and the shrimp cocktail was very good. The cocktail sauce was one of the best I've had. She got the grilled salmon and I got the macadamia crusted halibut. The salmon was grilled perfectly, very juicy and flavorful with beautiful grill marks on the outside. It came with a white wine butter sauce that went so well with the whole dish. The veggies were delicious as well. My halibut was so good with a pineapple butter sauce on top, a cheesy potato pancake, and grilled veggies. Such a great dish! Next time we come by this way we'll plan another stop here!

We came to Boathouse for a late lunch on Saturday (around 2p) thinking we missed the crowd, but it was pretty full. Ended up on a high top table on the back of the deck which was still fine as we had a decent view of the ocean. Servers did a very good job and lunch was pretty tasty overall. Can never go wrong with the clam chowder to start. I had shrimp tacos that were quite filling. My wife had a BLT which was average, however, the seasoned fries were tasty. Overall a good visit on a beautiful day here on the coast!

We stopped by on a whim to grab lunch with my parents. I was actually shocked at the low wait time! (Just 30 minutes on Memorial Day) The hostess (dark hair) was really friendly and helpful! It felt like a very warm welcome. We were seated in the beach front seating, and it was so beautiful. My parents loved sitting and watching the beach while the food was coming out. The food was amazing! We ordered an insane amount of food, but they were able to finish almost everything because of how tasty it was. They can't wait to come back~

The Boathouse at Hendry's Beach is a well established, immensely popular seafood place right above the beach offering standard dockside fare at competitive prices with excellent views. We came on Mother's Day, checking in with a wait time of 2 hours (they take no reservations). It ended up being about 90 minutes, not unreasonable for how busy they were. Staff was friendly and accommodating, nothing exceptional, and understandably busy. We got the fish and chips ($21) which were good, but not exceptional, with the fries well seasoned and the perfect mix of soft on the inside and crisp on the outside. We also got the lobster roll ($33) which was okay, although the lobster was more of a salad consistency than the large pieces I'm accustomed to for this sandwich. Our kids had reasonably priced kids meals of pasta and fish and chips ($11 each). As the photos suggest the location is beautiful, right on the beach, and carries a clean, breezy vibe. Waiting 90 minutes was not problematic at all given we could kick our feet up and rest in the sand. Prices, above, are actually quite reasonable for a restaurant as busy as this one is in a very expensive town in what could be a quite expensive location. Well priced with a beautiful location and fair food, the Boathouse is an easy, satisfying choice for whoever is near the coast and don't mind a wait. The best seat in town! You come here for one of the only restaurants on the beach in Santa Barbara but you stay for the hospitality and people you meet while you're here. Yes there can be a long wait for large parties when the weather is perfect. And it's almost always perfect. Yes you can put your name in for a table, grab a to-go drink from the bar, and get your feet sandy while you wait. You can get food to-go too which is perfect for a picnic on the beach. No dogs are allowed in the Boathouse but this is a dog friendly beach. There is a doggie tiki hut providing shade for but please quiet your barking one. We're all trying to enjoy ourselves. Yes sunsets are beautiful and set over the water in the winter and the cliffs throughout the summer. Oh and parking is free! But don't honk. We're all trying to make the loop and besides it's a dead giveaway you're from out of town. For the food it's all good and I've had pretty much everything on the menu. Tuna Melt Signature Breakfast House Cured Salmon Plate Shack Burger Clam Chowder Local Hope Ranch Mussels Seared Ahi Tuna Poke These are a few of my favorite things. The Boathouse is filled with good times, good friends, and good food. Come join me at the bar and find out for yourself.

This restaurant is beautiful and spacious. The service was great, friendly and attentive. We ordered Salmon Benedict and Crabcake Benedict. They were delicious. I also like the quality of the mimosa. My husbans ordered a latte and he loved it. Overall, it's a good place to relax and enjoy quality breakfast with an ocean view. We didn't have a problem finding a parking. Highly recommended.

While my family and I were at the Santa Barbara Visitors Center on State Street, one of the ladies who worked there recommended the Boathouse to us. I've been wanting to try this place so we all decided this was where we'd have lunch. This restaurant is right on the beach and had great views! The one pain in the butt part was the parking because we were competing with beach goers who weren't eating at the restaurant. There is an overflow parking lot where my husband found a space. The food was pretty good. We started with the Chowder Fries, which had a generous portion of clam chowder. My husband had the Fish Tacos, which he really enjoyed. My son had the Fish and Shrimp Combo and my daughter ordered the half order of Pancakes with chocolate chips. I ordered the Apple and Walnut Salad. The reason for giving the Boathouse only three stars was because of where we were seated. The hostess sat us on the outside of the patio and not in the patio area and the sun was beating on all of us. There was absolutely NO shade and made it uncomfortable for us the fully enjoy this dining experience. My husband, son and daughter all got sunburned!!! There needs to be shade provided for the patrons who are sat along the patio. The restroom situation was not great either. There were only two available for both genders to use and they weren't the cleanest. I think we're going to skip this place the next time we make the 2+ hours drive from Orange County.

Beautiful place to grab a meal! We sat outside and by the water for breakfast on our visit. Great view of the water for dolphin-watching (we weren't lucky this time). Food was really good. If you like crab cakes, I highly recommend the Boathouse Signature Breakfast! Servers were great! Dog-parking available, as there are no dogs permitted.

Showed up on a Saturday for a late brunch and got seated immediately. The view from inside is nice, and the interior is well maintained and clean. Service was initially a tad slow for someone to bring waters and take our orders, but food came out quickly and was plentiful! All our meals were delicious. Would highly recommend and we'd return again!

    Daria N.

SB Boathouse Restaurant offers absolutely gorgeous ocean views and a wonderful atmosphere, which is the main reason I keep coming back. The setting is beautiful and relaxing, making it a great spot to enjoy the scenery. My favorite dish so far is the Oysters Rockefeller, and my favorite drink is the Lemon Drop. Unfortunately, some of the other drinks I tried were disappointing. I ordered a margarita cocktail that was much too acidic, and the cappuccino was terrible--it tasted like watered-down coffee with milk and was served boiling hot. While the food and drinks have been hit or miss for me, the stunning views and overall ambiance make the experience worthwhile. I'm looking forward to trying more dishes on future visits and hopefully finding more menu items that I enjoy.

There was no way we were going to miss breakfast service at Boathouse. Per usual, we showed up early and waited a decent bit before we were seated but it was worth the wait. Our server continued to check on us during our visit and made us feel welcomed. They were also nice enough to see if the kitchen would send out crab cakes by themselves even if it wasn't on the menu and they did! I ordered their classic eggs Benedict and it was perfect! The hollandaise, the poached eggs, and the potatoes were great! The crab cakes were crispy, flavorful, and paired well with the coleslaw. Their two egg breakfast was also good according to my partner. Her only concern were the eggs not being warm by the time they landed at our table.

My husband and I recently moved to Los Angeles. While I've been to LA numerous times, I haven't lived in California since I was 2. That was over 50 years ago. My husband understands how much of a transition this was and he has been trying to make our outings fun. On this occasion we were with his friend and friend's wife. He considers him a brother since they have known each other for well over 50 years. We went to Santa Barbara to enjoy the a Day of Sunshine, good food, family and the beach. We stopped for lunch at Boathouse at Hendrys Beach. We were sat right away. The restaurant was packed but we got to the restaurant at the right time. This restaurant is right on the water and we were sitting outside next to the glass and had a perfect view. We had an amazing lunch. I ordered the Baja shrimp tacos. The dish was put together well with amazing fresh vegetables and pineapple. My husband ordered the Baja grilled fish tacos, friends had a lobster roll and Baja tacos with breaded fish. On the side we had the Old Bay Fries and a Lobster bisque cup of soup. The food was presented well and very colorful. The food was fresh and everything looked good. The server was busy and not only did she get to us timely the kitchen was fast! The place has a great vibe. The restaurant was clean and orderly. They were playing music and it wasn't overbearing, which is a plus. For 2 appetizers, 5 mains, 3 ice teas and 1 soda we spent $150. Tip was $30. Bill and tip works out to $45 a person. This is not unreasonable for a restaurant on the beach in Santa Barbara. Was a good day! Great food! Great location!

Ask the Community - Boathouse at Hendry's Beach

How do I access the off leash dog beach near Hendry's bosthouse?

It's right there. Just park in the lot and go left. It is not fenced off

    Do they take reservations?

    No.

    Is this business dog-friendly?

Not in the resturant but there is a area in The front for dogs.

During what hours is breakfast served?

Can you accommodate a party of 10 for a walk in?

Yes, if you wait your turn, no reservations available

Is kids allowed in the happy hour section?

    They are!

Hi do you allow dog in your outdoor sitting area thanks?

They have a sign posted at the entrance that says no dogs allowed but I recently saw a table with a dog at the outmost dining area. It may be an even longer wait to get one of those tables. The sign clearly states No Pets with the exception of…

How crowded would it get on a Friday evening? Trying to sit outside too!

We went on a Wednesday around 3pm or 4pm it was only crowd in the happy hour section the majority of the restaurant had a few open tables because only a very small portion of the restaurant was for happy hour which we found to be strange. I'm sure…

Anyone recommend a time that is less busy, since they do not take reservations?

Go in the morning! They offer great brunch!

    Do they take cash?

I can't say for 100% but pretty sure that is a safe bet. It is a full service restaurant. And I think I have seen a register at the bar. They're open now to call and confirm if you need.

Is this place pet friendly for out door seating?

Yes outside perimeter seating allows pets

    Is there parking?

Yes, there's a decent sized parking lot that is also shared with the public beach so it is often full. Just keep your fingers crossed that you get lucky with a spot.

Do they offer gift cards, if so how do you get one?

yes! I purchased 3 for my close friends over the holidays ( they also have cute sweaters and t-shirts for all sizes and shapes).…

Are you taking reservations for Easter?

The Boathouse strictly never accepts reservations (unfortunately) any day of the year.

Can I bring my dog with me on the patio?

Yes, there was a dog or two present when I visited.

    Do you take reservations?

Unfortunately, they do not take reservations. Tables are a first-come, first-serve basis where you put your name down and they give you a buzzes to hang on to. The wait can be long depending on the day so hang out on the beach while you wait.

    Do you take reservations?

The Boathouse does not accept reservations.

Are you taking reservations for 2?

Unfortunately they do not take any reservations.

What time does breakfast end on Saturday?

They serve brunch til 1 pm

What time is Breakfast served until?

The last time I was there (about 2 weeks ago), breakfast was served until 1pm.

I have to say, although there were two staff working on drinks, my latte took a while. Luckily, it came before the food. There was a staff member waiting at the counter and delivering just drinks. Once I got my latte, it tasted good. Strong. I felt the caffeine. The avocado toast was good, too. It was served in a shallow metal dish. Thick, high quality, Artisan bread. I enjoyed the toasted pumpkin seeds. I would definitely order it again, but open to ordering something else on the menu next time. Staff are friendly, welcoming, and efficient. There was another gentleman standing in the back, immediately clearing tables. It's better if you come earlier on the weekends. There was a line of people when I was leaving. There's plenty of free street parking. I parked across the street.

Those recommendations gave us an easy place to start, and neither dish disappointed. We were seated on the outdoor patio beneath the trees, surrounded by greenery and warm string lights. It felt comfortable and intimate, especially as evening settled in. This would be a great setting for a date night, dinner with friends, or anyone who prefers a lively restaurant without sacrificing conversation. A generous bowl of seasoned popcorn arrived first and disappeared quickly. It was crisp, savory, and a fun alternative to the usual bread basket. We ordered several rounds of the West Coast oysters, served ice cold with lemongrass and Thai chili granita. They were fresh and briny, with enough brightness and subtle heat from the granita to complement them without overpowering their natural flavor. Oyster lovers should put these at the top of the order. The fried chicken was another standout. The crust was deeply crisp while the chicken remained juicy, and the creamy grits underneath made it especially satisfying. Scallions and plenty of house-made pickles brought freshness and acidity to the plate, balancing the richer elements. This is a substantial dish and an ideal one to share. The menu lends itself well to ordering a few plates for the table, which worked perfectly for us. We paired dinner with wine and appreciated being able to take our time rather than feeling rushed through the meal. The Lark delivered exactly what we wanted from a Santa Barbara dinner: excellent oysters, a fried chicken dish worth sharing, an inviting patio, and a relaxed evening over good food and wine. I would gladly order both dishes again.

Server walking back and forth till we pulled him to our table to take our order, mind you the place was empty (now I know why!). Plopped himself next to us, no introduction, no questions, just stone faced. We ordered, he didn't write a thing down, very confident. Placed a simple order. Food came, wrong order. He takes it from in front of me and leaves without a word. I wait and wait, eventually ask if my food is still coming, did he place the wrong order? "Yeah, your food is coming, yes wrong order". There was no "sorry if this isn't your order, there was a mixup" or something, ANYTHING. Food eventually comes, suddenly we have a different server, again no explanation. Food is mid at best. Dessert as an apology or something is out of the question, they've never heard of such a thing. Safe to say I regret wasting my money here, and it makes total sense why it's empty all the time. Don't bother, take your money somewhere else, there are so many great restaurants in Lower Village Montecito, this one is definitely a Must Miss!

We did the Foodie Stroll & Dinner experience, which included a trip to the farmers market with the chef, Vick. Vick was a pleasure to spend time with--personable, knowledgeable, and genuinely engaging. We had a great time at the market with him and then enjoyed exploring it on our own afterward. When we arrived at the restaurant, our table was ready and beautifully set with rose petals to mark the occasion. The staff was attentive, helpful, and professional--always aware of when we needed something, but never intrusive. My wife ordered the Salade Lyonnaise, Juniper & Rosemary Venison, and Lemon-Berry Upside Down Cake. I had the Forest Mushroom Ragout, Braised Kurobuta Pork Flank, and finished with the Chocolate Molten Lava Cake. Every bite was excellent. My wife raved about the venison, and my pork flank was incredibly tender in a rich, flavorful sauce--the meat practically fell apart. Portions were generous; we couldn't finish everything, though we tried. Each course was paired with a different wine, and every pairing was spot-on. One especially thoughtful touch was that they presented us with custom 25th anniversary menus that we created with the chef. The menus highlighted our anniversary and listed the exact dishes we ordered--it was a really nice keepsake and made the evening feel even more special. All of this was done during a packed service, with only four people in the kitchen, which made the experience even more impressive. Thank you to Vick and the entire team for making our anniversary truly memorable.

Located just off the main downtown street on Victoria St., this French-Cali restaurant feels tucked away with either an indoor seating or cozy outdoor patio option. From start to finish, it's a phenomenal full dining experience. Our waiter passionately walked us each dish, explaining in-depth not only the food preparation process but also when ingredients were locally sourced if applicable. We begun with the escargot and tuna tartare for our firsts. Both with beautiful presentation. Our mains were the duck breast & confit, venison loin. Both perfectly cooked, rich in flavor and again lovely presentation. While it's French in style, it's certainly not in portions.
