This place is decent for a quick-ish bite. Went here with family and had good service. However, the table next to us had a tray of waters spilled all over them by the waitress lol. For appetizers we got the appetizer platter which comes with onion rings, French fries, chicken fingers, hot wings, and mozzarella sticks. It also had marinara sauce in the middle of the platter for dipping. We got calamari- not the best and not the worst I've had. And one of their specials which was pita in some sort of spicy feta cheese dip- amazing!!! I got one of their specialty salads which was a grilled chicken and strawberry with their house dressing- very good. My mom got chicken parm- average. My dad got a steak grinder- very good. I didn't get pictures of the other food but they got lasagnas which was a decent size and the cowboy burger. All the entrees except for the salad came with a side soup or salad as well. The food is tasty enough and the atmosphere is small town comfortable booths and tables for visiting with family or friends. We have always taken home leftovers due to larger portions. We came across this restaurant while driving around looking for a place to grab lunch. We were pleasantly surprised. The service was great. The servers checked in very often and were very flexible when I asked to make a change to my order. The food was also great. We really enjoyed the shrimp parmigiana and the chicken Alfredo pasta. My nephew also enjoyed the chicken gyro. The garlic bread was also great. Not worth the prices. The stuffed Sole filling that was supposed to contain scallops and other seafood felt like mashed potato and lacked flavor. Possibly frozen ahead of time as I think most of the menu is because of the insane amount of options. The menu said there would be a choice of veggie but instead only corn was provided. Baked potato still hard in the center and the potato skin appetizers we're extremely greasy. The chicken special was supposed to be wrapped in bacon bit it was just thrown on top and the Alfredo sauce was visibly separating on the plate next to more grease. Too much spinach in the stuffing. My mom lives not far from Apollo and we've been ordering take out and coming to the restaurant for years! They have plenty of parking and an outdoor screened seating area as well as plenty of spots indoors. I've gotten pizza, sandwiches, appetizers and specials and never been unhappy with my food. Potential to be good, but still disappointing I'm sorry to say. The atmosphere was great- intimate but relaxed. The waitstaff was friendly and you could tell the owners take pride in their restaurant. However, the food was pretty disappointing. The soups were phenomenal (clam chowder and chicken & rice) but it was all downhill from there. The pesto chicken dish had undercooked pasta with dry chicken that was chewy and hard all swimming in a thick pesto that was too heavy and oily- it was more like a cream sauce (but maybe that was on purpose???). The chicken parm was also bad with undercooked pasta and sauce that reminded me of the canned kind from elementary school lunches. The garlic bread was just okay. There was also a random older woman yelling and swearing at her husband for a good twenty minutes at the booth next to us and I was surprised nothing was done because there were kids right there and it was pretty uncomfortable. I probably should have said something, but didn't want to make the scene worse by attracting attention. I feel bad writing this because they were very nice, but just wanted to give others' a head's up based on our experience. read more

We've been there a few times, and ordered grinders and pizza. The grinders were exceptional, but the pizza was average. What was disappointing is that they have a very limited beer selection. The décor is beautiful, and you actually get the feeling you're in an expensive restaurant rather than a pizza place. However, the parking there is a real problem! The spaces in front are way too narrow, and unless you're driving an old scratched up beater, you better use the parking lot on the side, which is rather a long hike for an older person. We parked in the front with our new month old Malibu, and watching out the window, we saw person after person struggling to get out of their car (or truck) without hitting ours. And yes, we were parked straight, right in between the lines. We spent more time running out to see if there was a ding than we did eating. Sue Cowen I was in charge of the monthly gathering of our retiree's this month. We like to try different eateries in the area and I chose the Apollo for this month's luncheon. There were 14 of us ladies and we had the porch reserved for us. What a delight when we walked in. It was light, spacious, clean and very attractive. The only downside of the accoutrements was that it is right on busy Ct. Rte 32 and, therefore, noisy. We gave our orders from the extensive menu and/or the luncheon specials. We had asked for separate checks and our waitress graciously obliged. The food and beverages arrived in a timely fashion. The hot was hot the cold was cold. Each lady was happy with her selection. My only disappointment was that the seafood salad sandwich special was made with imitation crabmeat, not crabmeat as indicated. But, hey, for $6.95 it came on a ciabatta roll with cole slaw and scrumptious french fries. All portions were generous. Carrie, our waitress, couldn't have been more accommodating and cheerful. I have lived in North Franklin for over 30 years and frequented this establishment 100's of times. The pizza and grinders are excellent. The staff and owner are attentive and always pleasant to deal with. They have a habit of going to every table to ask how your food is and just generally inquire as to how you are. My adult daughter became seriously ill a number of years ago and to this day the owner asks about her health. You are not going to get gourmet meals here because after all it is an unpretentious pizza place. Been going to the Apollo for many years with my Mom who lives in Willimantic. It's always been our "go to" place because of the variety on the menu and everything we have ever had is delish. I particularly like their baked Fish dishes, especially the salmon. Big portions and good food and very reasonable. Service is consistently good. I have had food here about four times. 2 times in house and 2 for take out. I have tried the pizza two times. Each time the pie is average. It is not horrible but it lacks flavor. Typically get the standard pepperoni etc....and they cant push this past frozen pizza caliber. The other times I tried a club sandwich. This was also lack luster. The meat was not discernable from the other bits in the sandwich and the bread was bread quality you get from the cheap bread at Walmart. We don't eat meat too often but today I was jonesing for a cheeseburger baaaaad. Today we got cheeseburgers and chicken fingers. Again the quality is stuff you get frozen at Walmart. I have purchased those frozen burgers from Costco that taste darned good compared to the burgers at Apollo. First thing, the bun was NOT toasted nor did mine come with any mayo or ?? No one asked to have nothing on it and I didn't think I needed to prompt someone to put mayo (or secret sauce lol) on a burger. Its pretty standard. So....that meant I had to lube up my own burger. Then the buns weren't toasted so the whole thing was doughy and bland. Ya know guys, you ENHANCE the flavor of bread by toasting it. Now I wasn't expecting a thick bar burger but I was at least expecting a hand patty or something that tasted like meat. I even was so foolish as to order my burger 'rare' lol. But whats inside was a cold McDonalds Cardboard burger. Even some of the frozen ones I get at Walmart tasted better. We also asked for grilled onions. What was on there was thinly sliced onions which seemed like the kind for salads but they grilled them. What happens when you grill paper thin onions is they don't caramelize well enough to add flavor to the burger so we didn't taste any onions either. I swear at least McDonalds rehydrated onions have an onion taste. The other thing is who puts American cheese on a cheeseburger? It is so bland of a cheese that a burger needs a heavy one like cheddar or Suisse. We were starving so wolfed em down anyway. Like I said they aren't inedible its just that you expect people who make it their business to cook for others should at least do a better job than me! The chicken fingers we got also tasted VERY frozen and dry. I have had better Tyson chicken fingers from the bag. How hard is it to bread chicken and fry it? The French fries are also battered so it takes away from any potato flavor. We called to let them know that the burger and food just was very blah and it seems like no one cares there. They seemed interested in hearing it and asked us to bring in the burger so they could see. Well.....its cold out and once you get in your house and are warm the last thing you want to do is cart a half eaten burger there! Lots of people love them though. Getting good food in the more rural areas of CT is a challenge. Everything tends to be bland. But this place is in my neighborhood and I was hoping for better. They cant get better if no one challenges their perception that they are great. I am glad that the locals like them and they get good business tho. I am always happy to support local business but this place is just not for me. Well I gave it four tries and this was the last. I guess I will just get Costco burgers and keep in the freezer for those once in awhile cravings. Peace. read more
