I made a special trip to Willimantic because Tony's Pizza was the No. 7 vote getter for the CT Visit, CT Pizza Trail. See. It's already working to stimulate tourism. LOL Tony's is a Greek Style, neighborhood pizza spot. I ordered a large red pizza with "Grinder Meatball", peppers and onions when I was about 15 minutes out. I arrived. I took some pics from the parking lot, and by the time I walked inside, they had just pulled my pizza out of the oven and boxed it. The transaction was easy since I had paid online. If you order this Grinder Meatball topping, which seems to be somewhat of a signature, DO NOT, freak out when you open the box and don't see meatballs. The onions and peppers are on top of the cheese. And they mix up the thin sliced meatballs with the sauce, and put them under the cheese. Given how they work the Grinder Meatball topping, my comments may not apply to all of Tony's Pizzas. First of all, I like this style of thin cut , almost wiry, white onion and green peppers. Good appearance. Good flavor. The crust was medium thick and pan-crisped. Fairly standard Greek Style crust. Also, I liked the cheese, but it could have been a bit more well done for my tastes. It was well melted. But there was minimal marbling on top, which I like. I liked the meatball topping and Tony's gave you a lot of meatball pieces. Here's the only thing I didn't love about this pizza. Because the meatball slices were mixed into the sauce and they were so generous with the meatballs, the flavor of the sauce got lost. I couldn't tell if the sauce was average, good or very good. It just wasn't noticeable in relation to the meatball flavor. I would recommend asking for a side of sauce and dip pizza into the sauce, or maybe add extra sauce to the pizza. I think the crust would hold up to that. This probably wouldn't be an issue if you got a cheese pizza or a pepperoni pizza. Tony's has a bunch of inside seating. I suspect families eat hear regularly. I was there early. So I'm not sure how busy it gets. If I lived in the area, I could see regularly ordering from Tony's. I bet they have good meatball grinders too. 4.25 Stars read more

This is a tried and truly awesome restaurant. I started eating at Tony's when I was in college in 1992...the food was always reasonably priced and delicious. Move forward 35 years later and with a more mature palate, their food is still just as amazing as it was in the 90's and reasonably priced! I was there at 4:30 and was told that they had forgotten my pizza and that they would have to remake it and it should take about 15 minutes. Greek style pizza. We went for nostalgia as we used to frequent when we went to school at UCONN in the 1980s. The service was good and the pizza was OK - but after living in New Haven for 30+ years, it's hard to rave about non New Haven style. Lots of cheese and a little doughy and salty. The booths were the same. Location is in downtown Willimantic which may be a challenge in the evening. Sparking behind and across the street is adequate. I ordered 3 items. Those items were a pizza, small order of wings and a small steak grinder. I paid extra for cheese on the grinder, got none. At least they followed my instructions on what to leave off. The wings were not great, hard breading / dry chicken. The pizza was the most disappointing because it looked beautiful but was not tasty at all. The weird layer of mystery meat under the cheese was an immediate turnoff, the flavor was off. Sauce tastes a bit funny as well. Pizza should not have whatever was under that cheese. It was neither meatball, hamburger, pepperoni, sausage or bacon as the menu suggests was on the pizza Overall, I would not be ordering again as much as I wanted to like it. On Oct 15 went out with my cousins that live in a nearby town, at first I was only concentrated on visiting with them since we hadn't seen them in a while but when that pizza arrived to the table, oh boy it looked so good because it had every ingredient found in the kitchen and tasted even better. Was so good we fought for the check and of course I lost being the visitor. Would have gone back the next evening but had a very important event at Rentchler Field in Hartford with a tail gate party and all. Lady owner was one hundred percent correct about my feelings at the game, I nearly lost my voice from screaming and another pizza would have been good for my hoarseness and my appetite, more so for the latter undoubtedly. Maybe the people complaining have a point about this place needing an update....there was that one time that a fan literally fell from the ceiling and crashed on the floor next to me. Luckily, no pizza was harmed. My waitress apologized and we all moved on with our lives and our pizza. Aside from falling infrastructure, I love this place! This is your classic Greek style CT pizza. Although the heavy amount of grease can be a turn off for some I absolutely love this style of pizza! Tony's pizza in this fashion offers a little more cheese, and a little more oregano heavy sauce than others I've had. Sometimes asking for a little less cheese does the trick for me but I don't think you'll be disappointed in giving this place a try. I have recently started ordering from Tony's. I have always enjoyed their pizza and have branched off onto a few other things on their menu. But what I want to comment on now is their spectacular service. I recently placed an order with them, and they have been very consistent with usually being on time or early. Today, however, they were late. I called and was told it was on the way,I waited another 15 minutes and called them back. They explained they were having problems with their system and they remade my order, so it was fresh and hot. When the delivery driver arrived, he again explained the problem again and gave me both orders plus a 2 liter bottle of soda. When I went to throw out my trash, I looked at my receipt, and not only did they give me both orders and the soda. They didn't charge me for the original order. That extra order fed a homeless person that day. Tony goes above and beyond for their customers. I would give more than 5 stars if I could you are the best keep up the good work. read more

Tonys pizza is Willimantic. Been there for years and with good reason. There pizza is hearty and there are many choices. Pepperoni is my favorite. Can be a little greasy at times but still very good. Ordered delivery and the guy got lost, went on all our neighbors doors but ours, stated he tried to knock on my door but he never did, also said that he call which was also not true AND he made his way back to the restaurant. 1 hour 30 minutes after I called to check where he was he brought me the same COLD GREASY PIZZA!
