When I scheduled the appointment, I was told there would be a $99 service fee. What I was not told was that this was essentially a diagnostic fee and did not include any actual repair work. After inspecting the disposal, the technician spent time outside "crunching numbers" and then returned with repair options ranging from $529 to over $4,000. Because the disposal was reportedly just three months beyond the warranty period, there was apparently no consideration given despite the fact that their company originally installed the unit. The most frustrating part was that only a few minutes later, the disposal was repaired. I was then presented with a $529 bill and asked to provide three separate signatures confirming that the work had been completed to my satisfaction. I felt pressured into agreeing. After waiting several days for service, having technicians already in my home, and having an unusable sink until the repair was completed, I did not feel I had much choice but to pay and sign. I hired Brass Tacks because I knew Carlton Goss from the original kitchen renovation work and trusted the company based on that experience. Unfortunately, this service call left me feeling betrayed. What should have been a straightforward repair instead felt like a high-pressure sales exercise designed to maximize revenue rather than help a customer. I also noticed negative Google reviews when I first contacted the company, but I dismissed them because of my prior positive experience. In hindsight, I wish I had paid closer attention. Their diagnosis was wrong. The actual cost for the repair to fix the water pressure was $0 as the cause was calcification I fixed and the boiler only needed a replacement valve as the system is set up to replenish the water supply.
