While in the Palm Springs area for a 5 day visit with my wife and my mother-in-law, I made it a point to visit a couple of Filipino restaurants. With a recent expansion to their space in Cathedral City, this location has become a gathering place for Filipinos in the Coachella Valley area. Thus we went out of our way to find this place for dinner. I found it to be mixed, and can't really recommend their food. It's a nice space inside, with a fast casual setup (order and pay first, and the food is brought to you when ready). It wasn't particularly friendly when we first arrived to the empty restaurant, but it got better as we ordered and ate. Cheesesteak Philly Style ($15.99) and Apong's Special Philly Style ($16.99). They come with fries, with an upcharge of $1 for cheese. Both had grilled mushrooms and onions mixed with the chopped steak. The Apong's special adds both cheese whiz and american cheese to the standard provolone. Both are served on Amoroso rolls from Philadelphia, which is genuine, but not particularly fresh when brought in daily. (the rolls tasted a bit stale to me). The amount of meat given could induce a hungry person to order a double portion as well, though it was just right this day. I definitely like my cheese steak with cheese whiz, and this version confirmed that (though if not offered, a good dallop of mayo is good as well, mixed with the melted provolone). Strangely, the showstring fries were the most disappointing part of the meal for me...fries can be good if the right effort is made, but that wasn't the case here. They had been deep fried a while before, and had been sitting in a warmer until served to us...thus were dried out and pretty flavorless. With what we ordered, a new batch of freshly made fries would have gone a long way to put us in a good mood, especially for dine-in. Chicken Mami Soup ($14.99) - a large bowl of chicken soup. For this price, would have hoped for something more homemade. The broth was fine, but seemed to be made from either canned chicken broth (benefit of doubt) or more likely chicken powder. Also used dried spaghetti noodles, which is not something I seek out. It did have pieces of white meat (breast) and fresh chopped vegetables like cabbage and carrots. Tasted fine, but wasn't particularly hearty. Reminded me very much of saiman, except for the price. Halo-Halo ($14.99) - it was good. Few beans (which is often used as filler), but instead large pieces of sweet plantains. It also had plenty of condensed milk and two large scoops of ice cream (both ube and vanilla). Used crushed ice, instead of shaved, which does make a big difference in consistency, but understand it's harder to do since time consuming. Apong means grandmother in Ilicano, which is the third most spoken native language in the Philippines, after Tagalog and Cebuano. The owners and workers seemed to be originally from that region; and it's really nice to use such a nice term of endearment for their endeavor. read more

Review only for Filipino food, didn't try their sandwiches. We dined in and the service was good but food preparation was slow. We were both happy with our entrees and the portion size was not big but fair. This place is soooooo good!! My fiancée and I went and the food was incredible, she said it felt like going to her grandma's house, which the place was cozy. She got a fish plate and I got a Philly cheesesteak. Both plates were really big so we were surprised but we devoured our plates, I also got a mango juice drink, it was fresh mango juice and it was soooo refreshing, would recommend. We also got Halo Halo and Turon which was so great, by that point we were stuffed completed but the service from Jocelyn was beautiful, it was hard to even leave after all the food that we ate but yeah, 100/10, would recommend :) read more

I have eaten previously at the other two sites, on Perez Road and at The River. This place is amazing. I felt at home and the food is always great. While it is at a more desolate spot, it is across from Tony's, Teamomo, and my barbers. It is an excellent spot with arm chairs, couches, and colorful chairs and tables. The kind service staff is always helpful. I am always about the food. The spaghetti is better than most. The Mami soup noodles and lumpia are to die for. This was the same Apong's at the former Perez Street location in Cathedral City and I thought it was the same ol same ol. I was wrong. The new location on Date Palm and Gerald Ford location is a hidden gem and the inside is very welcoming. If you've been to the Philippines, the setting is similar. As a Filipino American born, I'm impressed with the "Escape to Manila meets with High Tech Bay Area" settings. You still have the Cafeteria style settings, which is the staple style restaurant, you normally see in the Philippines. Restrooms are very clean and packed with amenities. I'm ecstatic with the place and that's an awesome improvement than the last location. Service, make no mistake, you will feel at home more you're in a restaurant. The cashier is very helpful and understanding. She suggested an $11.00 plate deal, with Pancit and a choice between a 1 piece leg or thigh fried chicken piece or 4 lumpia Shanghai. I opted with the chicken and I ordered lumpia and type price of $16.00 I spent is worth it. Food is amazing and fulfilling. If you're looking for a Fried Chicken other than the Commercialize like KFC, Popeyes and even Jollibee's, Apong's Fried Chicken has the various herbs and spices and it's not salty nor bland. The texture of panko instead of flour makes the texture perfect and it orchestrates the taste with it. Pancit or Filipino pan fried noodles, similar to the Chinese Chow Mein, is a must try. Very dedicated ingredients of veggies and chicken, as well as herbs, spices and sauce is well put together. The taste is fantastic and it's not salty nor bland. Delicious!!! Ube Cake and Ube Ice Cream is a new trend and the rave of delicious is skyrocketing with the general audience. I recommend stopping at Apong's Philly Cheesesteak and Much More, if you're craving Philly Cheesesteak or Fried Chicken. I recommend the Pancit as well. read more

Took a vacation to Palm Springs and we were driving along and saw a sign for Philly cheesesteak so of course I grab my phone to yelp it and see what it's all about...surprise surprise it's a Filipino restaurant! That made the discovery even better! The next day we head over to get a Philly and end up getting a Filipino breakfast plate instead and so happy we did! Don't judge a book by it's cover! This review is solely based on the Philly cheesesteak ordered to go that I just ate 9/30/25 around 6:30 pm. I will say getting questions answered about what's in it seemed like a hassle but it got answered, so that's all that matters. Trying this place for the first time, I expected a place that has Philly steak in the name of the restaurant would have a delicious Philly cheesesteak! Unfortunately not the case, I got the 3 cheese Apong cheesesteak I ate it right away in the car, it was kinda bland, and with 3 cheeses I expected it to be oozing with cheese but kinda dry and portion of meat was minimal and onions and mushrooms were almost nonexistent I had to look for it and saw it but such small cut up pieces. Never tried them when they were at the river but I've been seeing the location on Date Palm recently. Got a chance to order a couple things yesterday. Pancit and pork lumpia. The atmosphere was bright and seemed VERY clean. Nice older lady took our order. The pancit had very little and almost microscopic pieces of vegetable. Very little chicken also and what WASin it was chunky. Definitely not shredded. Flavor was good but NOT worth the $$. The lumpia .... Not a fan of the tiny rolls. Won't be going back read more

What has happened to this place, I ordered a two piece breast and wing with a diet soda. First the soda machine was down so I had to buy a bottled soda with no refills. Then after I was sitting down a man came over "we are out of wings" so I would have to order a leg instead. We the order arrive the fries were over done and not fresh and a very small quantity. I used to really like this place for the chicken and the Filipino food. I have gone to their old locations in Cathedral City (Perez Blvd) and at the River. They were always nice and friendly and the service was top notch. Not any more. I was excited to try their new place on Date Palm when it opened. The first time I went there, there was a very rude woman at the counter who I had never seen before. In Filipino/Tagalog, we would call her "Bastos" (rude). It was a somewhat heavy-set woman that really seemed like she didn't want to be there. She took a long time just to acknowledge we were there. Then when we ordered, she acted like she was annoyed and that we were bothering her. I just chalked it up to her having a bad day. OK. I let that pass. So I went back this past weekend on a Saturday. As you can see in the picture I included from their website, it says they are open until 9:00 pm on Saturday. I walked in with my wife and our grandson at 7:45 pm - thinking we had over an hour to order and sit down to eat. As soon as we walked in, the same rude woman mentioned above yelled at us from behind the counter: "We're closing in 15 minutes". I said, "Oh. The website says you close at 9:00". She rudely replied, "Well look on the door. It says we close at 8:00". We just walked out. I wasn't expecting them to stay open for us or anything. But how about some civility and not making customers feel like they are intruding? The correct response would have been, "I'm sorry for the confusion. We have to update the website". Or something to that effect. But to imply that we are wrong (when the website clearly says they are open until 9:00 pm) and that we should have looked at the door for the correct hours is just plain rude. We won't be going back unless they get rid of that woman or they tell her she needs to change her attitude. read more

Yes! I finally found a Filipino restaurant! Had sinigang soup tonight with a side of lumpia. Perfect for this cold evening. The soup was perfectly tart. Would've loved more veggies but I'm not complaining coz this hit the spot. Loved that they used pork ribs too. The lumpia was good but you can't go wrong with lumpia. I really had high hopes for this place. Unfortunately, it was a miss on all items. I ordered the Apongs Special and the Philly Cheesesteak. Each sandwich came with fries, there could be more 10 fries in each to-go container. The real disappointment was the meat. Each sandwich had large chunks of pure gristle the size of an egg. Once the inedible chunks were taken out we were left with a cheese sandwich with bits of beef. Definitely not worth the $15.99 and $14.99. My guess is they are trying to cut corners with cheap cuts of beef. When it comes down to it, the important question is would we recommend the place and would we go back. No problem, no issues, was welcomed to stay and eat in but decided to get it to go so they could close up. Got the supreme cheesesteak and it was excellent. The Philly Steak sandwich was far from authentic. It lacked flavor, maybe becase it lacked a sauce which also made it very dry. The grilled onions and mushrooms were chopped so small that they were hard to find. I asked for grilled peppers, but didn't get them. For an authentic Philly steak, I would go to Charleys Cheesesteaks in the Palm Desert mall. My wife had the chicken teriyaki which was very strange. It did not have a teriyaki sauce flavor, but instead had a very sweet sauce. Also, the rice was extremely dry. They also have "classic" breakfast, sandwiches, burritos, and cheesesteaks. And fried chicken! Pinoy food in the desert? Sign me up! The best part is it's next to a strip club lol. I actually came here a couple years ago during coachella looking for halo halo and always wanted to come back. This last weekend I did! They're menu is amazing, philly cheesesteaks, Pinoy staples and fried chicken/southern things! It was my first time trying boudin bites- spicy, fried, and tasty! Ordered the apong's Philly cheesesteak- a little too cheesy for my liking haha but still delicious! The kris by fried chicken was also good and the butter biscuit surprisingly kinda moist!
