Most importantly, I want to point out that you can join the waitlist and, or, make an actual reservation directly from the Yelp site, so that's super helpful. Having said that, we arrived about 1230 this afternoon and it was not overly busy so daytime during the week might be OK without any sort of reservation. Delectable, super meaty sandwiches were found on the menu and honestly it was difficult to make a choice. Finally, my party of three decided on two sandwiches to share three ways and I think we did it perfectly. We had a turkey ortega chili melt that was scrumptious. Another party ordered the brisket French dip, and I liked this a lot. The bread, which I think some people would like, was very soft and I prefer a toastier, more dense roll with a French dip so that it really absorbs a lot of of the au jus. But that's not really a complaint, just a preference. Avery, our server, was bubbly and efficient, checked in regularly, and the gentleman kept our ice tea glasses filled at all times; since the mercury hit about 1 billion this afternoon, it was very much appreciated. Kind of a retro decor and it's obviously an older building, but has been well maintained and the restrooms were very clean and orderly. Full bar. I've been to Manhattans many times over the past decade. Happy to report that it remains consistant in its quality of both food and service. Portions are generous, food is fresh, Jewish specialties are properly prepared and taste great. The staff is very friendly, attentive and always accommodating to special requests. They did a remodel and moved the bakery to the other side of the space. In its place is a full service bar area. Noise level from the bar area typically isnt an issue for the adjacent dining area, but during some TV sports events, patrons in the bar can get very noisy and it is disruptive to diners. I only experienced this during dinner hour on a Sunday. Despite the bar area topic, I still highly recommend a visit here. read more

Good was good, customer service was good but they are slow overall. We went 2 days in a row - the 2nd being the day we were heading home. I didn't want to stop but apparently, my family forgot how slow it was the day before (when we didn't have a rush for anything) - but definitely saw it the 2nd day. It is clean and spacious. Lots to look at decoration wise. The customer service was very nice. We were greeted immediately upon entering and said goodbye to while leaving. We all tried something. Different both days, but within the breakfast realm. And they do have a lot of delicious treats we bought both days to share. This place is cute. Bright. Not giving East coast, but that's totally fine idc. I ordered the huevos rancheros--not the most deli food in the world, but it sounded good. The husband got the smoked salmon platter. Apparently there was a large party ahead of us so food took a while to come out. The staff was apologetic about it, but that's fine. Over the course of 24 hours, I ate at two of the best-known deli's in Palm Springs. I ordered the same sandwich at each place. My lunch was at Manhattan in the Desert. They have a bakery, and a bar, which both look good, but I did not experience those. Spacious parking lot, a hostess to seat you, and a comfy booth (thanks to a local friend who planned ahead for our lunch). It was crowded but not crazy at noon on a Friday - and we were comfortable by the window. Our server was friendly and helpful. The pickle tray brought to us I'd rate as OK, as there was just one variety of pickle (the mushier classic kosher dill). I love to have them both, what can I say. I ordered the corned beef and chopped liver sandwich. It's open-faced, which is perfect in my book. The (moderate) double crust rye bread is welcome -- where the crust has a really good crunch against the soft bread. The liver tasted pretty good, and the texture of the some of the ingredients (onions, liver, egg) were evident making it feel more home-made. It could have used more seasoning, perhaps as simple as salt and pepper because while it was definitely fine, the chopped liver never rose above that. The corned beef was also was unremarkable. A bit dry, and at room temperature, it was a bit of a disappointment. The red onion was also a bit dried out, with the white speckles on the rings. No tomato, lettuce garnish. The cole slaw was also just OK - somewhere in between creamy and vinegar-y. It was inoffensive, and lacked vision. I never thought I'd say that about cole slaw, but there you go. Overall, the meal was fine - it was polite eating experience, in a nice setting, and nothing more. read more

Not only is this a special mountain place to visit the fact just a husband and wife run this beautiful spot with breakfast, donuts that start making at 1 am and a grill until 1 pm for lunch is such a sweet place to visit. You might have to wait a little longer because Amelia is the only person working in the front and she wants to make sure that everyone feels welcome and that the locals get their attention at the same time. There is something called "mountain life" if you want fast service with no magic go back down the hill. If you want an experience come here. Relax, enjoy the way of the mountain and have something homemade and delicious to eat. Our just complain you are not served fast enough. I can guarantee the weekends are super busy and they sell out fast. That is not bad costumer service. That is locals coming in because they love it there and the extra crowd . Emilio at the bar is a move. He is THEE sweetest and best bartender I've seen in a minute. Kind as hell, and very attentive. Set up the entire bar and restocked WHILE serving me and giving great service. He even wears a pink apron for breast cancer awareness month ("and Mother's Day"! lol). I mean, what a guy?! I love this place already, but he really made the visit what it is. In today's world, it's nice to meet a good dude, especially behind the bar. From a woman's standpoint, you feel more comfortable in that setting and you also want to be around that decent man energy. All day happy hour takes the cake and it's a great spot for the sports games at the bar. They make their own Bloody Mary, margarita and chavela mix. I love that. Over all service was solid, but not great. Seemed like the staff was a bit overworked. The matzo ball soup was a 7 out of 10. Nice Deli stop in the Desert. Clean comfortable dining area. Friendly wait staff. Portion sizes are very generous. My roast beef French dip was so good. Crammed full of roast beef. Tender and well seasoned on a fluffy bun to soak up all the au jus dipping liquid. Fries were crisp outside and nice and soft on the inside. Coleslaw was delicate and not over sauced. Hubby's Burger with pastrami was outstanding. I had a bite and would probably get that on our next visit. Patty was juicy and not overly compressed. Topped with thinly sliced amazing pastrami and cheese. We opted for the sauce on the side and it was very good dipping as little or as much of the sauce as we wanted. We returned here after a couple of years. Fortunately, the new owner has done a great job restoring this fine restaurant in a great way. There is now a bar that also serves as an eating area, and the bakery has moved around the corner. It was great to see Kim, the manager, has returned as she brings real expertise. Our server Donna could not have been nicer and took excellent care of us. Our busser also to great care of us refilling drinks, just keeping things real clean. Really appreciated the service. I suggested the chicken in a pot to one of our guests, and she absolutely loved it. We also ordered an excellent corned beef hash, and a French dip sandwich. My hamburger on parmesan sourdough toast was overcooked but tasty enough that I didn't want to return it. I'm very enjoyable meal, and so glad with the updates. Since we have no Jewish deli's near our home- we thought we would try the 'other' deli in Palm Springs. We were greeted when walked in and sat immediately. The restaurant had typical deli vibes - booths and tables, a spacious bar and a bakery. They also had both kinds of pickles ( good for a deli!!) Hubby had a salami and cheese omelette with home potatoes, son had a double decker sandwich (brisket and pastrami) , and I had a half sandwich ( pastrami) with sweet and sour cabbage soup. Hubby's omelette was good but he didn't love the potatoes- not flavorful enough for him and not well done. The soup was a little sweeter than I remembered from years ago. Went for dinner on a Saturday night and found the place completely empty! Nothing like my past visits before that tacky remodel. They took out the amazing deli/bakery area when such a warm inviting entrance and managed to turn it into an indigo blue bar. Does not match the restaurant at all! The food was basically a Costco haul and cooked lightly. I've lived in the desert for 15 years and have had many good meals at this place before the recent sale and remodel. For years, this restaurant was one of the highlights of my trips to Palm Springs -- the kind of place I looked forward to visiting before I even unpacked my suitcase. It had charm, warmth, personality, and food that made the experience memorable. Unfortunately, after my most recent visit, it's painfully clear that under the new ownership, the restaurant I once loved no longer exists in the same form. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt noticeably different. We were greeted by a gentleman who seemed completely disengaged, barely acknowledging us as guests. Rather than offering a warm welcome, his attention appeared focused almost entirely on the activity around the newly installed bar area -- now occupying the space where the restaurant's famous baked goods display once stood. That change alone immediately signaled that the restaurant's priorities and identity have shifted considerably under the new management. One of the traditions I always loved here was the pickle tray that would arrive at the table shortly after being seated. It was a simple touch, but it added character and made the experience feel special and authentically old-school. This time, not only did the pickle tray never appear, but no one even asked if we wanted one. Longtime customers will understand that details like this were part of what made the restaurant unique and memorable. I ordered my longtime favorite: the corned beef and cabbage dinner. While the portion size was still generous, the quality was nowhere near what it used to be. The corned beef no longer had that thick, tender, freshly carved texture I remembered from previous visits. Instead, it appeared to have been sliced paper-thin on an electric slicer and resembled reheated luncheon meat more than traditional corned beef. The meat lacked flavor, texture, and freshness, and seemed artificially moistened as though it had been reheated rather than freshly prepared. To be fair, the steamed vegetables and boiled potatoes were cooked properly and tasted fine. Ironically, they ended up being the best part of the meal -- something I never would have expected to say about this restaurant years ago. The person dining with me ordered another entrée that came with mashed potatoes, which unfortunately arrived cold. Not slightly cool -- actually cold enough to immediately stand out. By that point, it became increasingly obvious that the attention to quality, consistency, and hospitality that once defined this restaurant has faded significantly. As we left, the overwhelming feeling was disappointment more than frustration. This no longer feels like the classic, top-notch restaurant so many people remember fondly. Under the new ownership, it feels as though many of the small traditions, standards, and details that built the restaurant's reputation have either been overlooked or abandoned entirely. Sadly, I won't be returning on my next Palm Springs trip. Some restaurants evolve while still honoring what made them special. Updating once I got home and bought some real whitefish salad to show photos as a comparison. The manager has obviously never eaten a real 100% whitefish salad. Was there some whitefish mixed in with the albacore? Yes, but it's obvious that the whitefish was not the primary ingredient, albacore was. Either she is willfully obtuse or her kitchen staff is lying to her, or both. And the bagels they serve are just so sad. Just because you order whitefish from Acme doesn't mean that it's all going onto your sandwiches without other fish being added in. Whitefish is a very soft, silky fish. I've been eating it since I was a child in NY. It has no "chew" like albacore. And it becomes even creamier when mixed with mayo into what is traditionally called whitefish salad. We heard that there was all day happy hour on Tuesday so we tried it. The happy hour menu was excellent. NY deli food at half price or better. We had to take some home. Everything was so delicious and our waiter was so friendly and personable we went back twice. Everything was like your Grandma made. Homemade family recipes with nothing skimped on. I really enjoyed the cabbage rolls served in a sweet and sour tomato sauce, truly awesome. The portions are massive just like grandma. The only thing that I didn't care for was the squash served as a vegetable. The dinner rolls are worth putting in your pocket. We took some Cannoli home for breakfast. What a treat!!' A great Variety of Food....Ate here 2 of our 4 nights on a mini- vacation.... We sat at their new bar with 2 large TV's to watch The Knick's vs. SAS game. This place has gone downhill fast. It used to be our favorite but the waitress was so insanely rude it made the table next to us that was just seated leave because they didn't want her either. We would have left had we not ordered as we didn't want to be rude ourselves in return. She ended up charging us for three entrees we didn't order and when we showed the bill for them to her she had an absolute fit and said we did order even though we obviously didn't since those items never arrived. Love this place!! We're new to the area and boy are we glad we found Manhattan in the Desert. Let's just say that we have them on "heavy rotation" because my Husband can't resist their Pastrami Reuben. My "go to" is the French dip, but not just any French Dip, the Beef Brisket French Dip. It's really good and I have yet to finish the whole sandwich in one sitting. All their breads are baked fresh daily as are their delicious deserts. We always leave with a bag of rolls, bagels, or a little schmeken for later. ("When the schmeken beckons"). Manhattan in the Desert is a definite must try, oh and their breakfasts are delicious too. read more
