The best beer we have had in Boone by far! The beer was flavorful, crisp, and went down a bit too easy. The interior could use a up grade and the Peking outside could be a little easier to manage. It is a small interior but cozy. They had a good band playing while there. I loved the brewery but made it even better when I found the beer at a local grocery store. A great brewery tucked on a side street away from the crowds. Lenny of beer options from lager to stout to ciders. Plenty of room in the back for listening to live music , playing cornhole or just relaxing. Two food trucks, one in the courtyard, serving great egg rolls. We had the Philly and the Cuban. Great taste, just a tad greasy though. The truck has pizza that's pulled right up to an opening to the building. That would definitely help during bad weather. One of our favorite places to hang out in Boone! They have a wide variety of beer and cider. It's always a happy day when Ted and I both can find a couple beers we love on the list. My current favorite is the Rose Wit. He's enjoying the many IPAs on tap. They have lots of seating but it is still frequently standing room only after an App State game or on the weekend. Love how dog friendly they are! Also love, love, love how supportive of the community they are. Check out the wall by the bathrooms for the charities they're currently supporting. So, is there anything I don't love about AMB? Well, my only complaint.... I'm just not crazy about their permanent food truck. Some of their menu items are OK but I haven't found anything I just love. I'd prefer a rotation of different trucks to try new things. read more

This is a cool little brewery and tasting room. They have a great outdoor seating area which for us was the best place to enjoy our flights before deciding on a pint. I ordered two IPAs, the house lager and their golden ale. The IPAs were solid, the lager was an average German lager but the golden ale was really good. She ordered two ciders which she didn't like at all (she loves ciders) and a gose which we both enjoyed and the summer sour which I found to be a hidden treasure. I don't normally like sours but this one was fantastic with a great cucumber taste on a warm day. They are dog friendly outside and the staff is very friendly. They also have a small menu which we didn't order from as we had dinner plans at another brewery in town. I will come back next time in town as I've had two of their other beers while in the area at local restaurants. read more

This is a great brewery in Boone. The taproom is relatively big--there is plenty of room inside, under the covered patio and out on the picnic tables in back yard space. Even when it is packed, you're able to find some space to yourself. The beers are great, and they offer a few ciders as well. There is a wood-fired pizza food truck outside the front of the building with awesome food to pair with the drinks. They sell some of their beers in cans which is really cool if you're not from the area and want to take home a memento. read more

If I lived in Boone, I'd come here all the time! On Thursday evening, there was a pretty good crowd. They have a good selection of beer and cider. For Thursday special, they had a few beer specials for $3. They let you try the cider/beer and I really appreciated that. I ended up getting a cider called mystic something(?). The bar staff was super friendly and made us feel so welcome. There was live music and it looked like it was a regular evening thing along with trivia and other events based on a chalk board up on the wall. A local artist named Joseph Houck was there that evening. He played a song for the bride-to-be in my group and his wife took some pics and a video she shared with us. Their beer has always been great but I love the ciders even more. The Green Dragon is my absolute favorite. AMB's food truck is on site for you to order pizza and salads. Great beers and a great tap room to boot. AMB is a sure fire place to check out if you want some local beers while in and around Boone or ASU. They also have a permanent food truck to satisfy your hunger on any night. Parking is pretty much all around the building and they have multiple entrances. The beer and wine was fine. Definitely will not be back though. Customer service was awful. Our friend asked about wine (she doesn't drink beer, her husband does) and we got told "this is a brewery, we don't want wine people here." She then came out to fill up the water at the front and complained because there was a group of people talking then proceeded to talk shit walking right by our group. Visited Boone to hike and get away from Raleigh for a bit. As a NC brewery frequent, I had heard good things about AMB and had seen their beers in the Triangle so I wanted to check out the brewery. It was a bit chilly when we arrived in Boone and AMB was our first stop after a 3 hour trip (67 degrees in August). The brewery wasn't too busy on a Monday at noon, but the ambience was surreal. The smell of burning wood, beer being brewed, and the aroma and warmth of my Baba Budan Coffee IPA. The wooden structure of the facility and the mountains in the background... Appalachian Mountain Brewery tickled all of my senses and made a lasting impression I'll never forget. I've been to breweries in Raleigh, Asheville, NoDa, Wilmington, all over the state. However, I've never been so sad to leave like I was when we left Boone. I've got only the best things to say about this place and cannot wait to return!! read more

Appalachian Mountain Brewing is tucked off a side street very close to Appalachian State University. It's pretty easy to spot and more times than not there will be a food truck parked out front. Pull in around to the back of the building for parking. There are picnic tables out back with some dangerous looking homemade see saw creations. Beware of groin splinters! Once inside, although there are cinder block walls, it feels like you're in your buddy's cabin. There's a fantastic mural on the main wall - lots of vibrant colors. AMB has tons of selections on tap. The flights come in 4, 8 and I could swear I heard them say 12. Not too keen on the plastic carriers with dry erase marker for beer IDs; they seemed a bit clunky, hard to use and cheap. I took my flight to the patio area where there are plenty of high top tables made from casks. The Long Leaf IPA was good, and so was the Dry County Pale Ale with Apricot. I didn't care for the others. I have had their Black Gold Porter before and it's decent. The bartender wasn't all that friendly and seemed a bit impatient. The bathroom had a ton of flies in it. Nothing worse than flies trying to land on you in the bathroom. The food truck on site, Farm to Flame, was pretty awesome. I think these guys offer discounts on brew tours/tastings through Groupon. read more

Once again 3 reviews. First off the beer. Really good i tried quite a few and everytthing was great. Secondly the food. The small food truck was far better than lost pronvince and a lot cheaper and bigger. The fact a tiny food truck is 10x better than a full kitchen says a lot. 3 the service. Vacationing in "High Country" is a total 180 from living in the RTP -- mostly because it is country (just turn on the radio and listen to the dialogue of the locals), everything is spaced out, and it is a brewery desert. After wandering around the sleepy town of Banner Elk for good food and failing miserably, I was desperate to quench my thirst with good beer. Luckily, only 30 minutes laid between me and my lust for ale. Location-wise, I was surprised that it wasn't out in a deserted warehouse district like many breweries in the Triangle. It's located down a dead-end street, next to the Boone Mall -- and it's not even a mile from App State! As we entered the place, my ears were filled with live bluegrass as I scanned the wood-laden room, filled with happy country folks and college kids downing cold brews alike on wooden picnic tables. They also had an enclosed and covered porch with heat lamps in the back. I excitedly ordered a flight of five beers, which were only $6! I started off with the 163 Pale Ale, which was surprisingly not as bitter as I expected and citrusy. Next, I tried the Long Leaf IPA, which I quickly handed off to my boyfriend to drink (too hoppy). Third, the King's Kolsch, which was my favorite out of the five -- VERY easy to drink. The Black Gold Porter was dark and chocolatey, but a bit too thick than I desired that night. Last, but not least, I drank Yosef's Ale -- unfiltered, cloudy, and light. It placed in second in my taste book for the night. I loved gazing at the shiny fermenters in the back as I slowly sipped my brew on a stool at the bar. I also loved the variety of colorful, raw wood that lined the walls, as well as the bathroom (it was clean)! The service was also great -- quick pours from the attentive and friendly staff! There is definitely no place like home. That was my inner dialog while we were trying to find a legit place to grab a few local beers in High Country. Thankfully Appalachian Mountain Brewery recently opened so we could get our craft brew on and enjoy a night out with the locals. We found the place with little issue, the only one arising as we were trying to find a parking spot. The place was booming with business and we ended up mining a spot of our own. The building itself looked to be previously an auto garage, but that would really open the brewery up during the summer when the heavy doors are rolled up. They have a great amount of space for customers including an enclosed patio, a dozen tables inside and a long stretch of counter at the bar. We found a place at the bar and the employees were eager to wait on us. We ended up getting a flight for $6 of 5 beers- IPA, Pale, Kolsch, Yosef, and Porter. Pints varied in price from $3- $4.5 and well worth the expense. The Black Gold Porter was masterfully done. Dark rich malts blended with a smooth hop undertone definitely defines the ability of AMB. The Long Leaf IPA seemed to be the talk of the town. A great sturdy IPA with plenty of IBU's, it'll make you suck the hop oil from your teeth. The 163 Pale Ale offers a smooth citrus touch with modest bitterness. The Kolsch is a beer they offer that drains from the pint glass quick. A delicious German style with noble hops to accentuate its sudsy personality. The Yosef is a great blonde ale, ironically unfiltered to really represent Mountaineers everywhere. AMB is a much needed addition to Boone and they seemed to have been warmly welcomed by the locals. Pay them a visit to try the beers and enjoy the live bluegrass while you're at it! read more

I love breweries, and always seek them out on my travels. Maybe this place is great for students with limited expectations, but I can't give it more than an "okay". There's one small room which was crowded and had intolerably loud live music playing, and another rather large concrete-floored covered space which was not crowded at all. We sat there so we hear each other talk, but could barely hear the music at all. (There's also an outdoor space, which we did not try.) I guess they don't serve food out of the taproom, but there were limited food options (pizza) from a truck parked adjacent to the building. Very insufficient. We got to AMB as it opened at 2 pm on a Monday. The bar staff were very friendly and offered a ton of samples (which of course, we obliged most of the time). Usually we have to ask.. My favorite beer by far was the C.R.E.A.M Doughnut Cappuccino Nitro Milk Stout. Yes, this beer is every bit as delicious as it sounds. They also had a new Imperial Stout series called Edge of a Dream which was pretty cool. We ended up getting a flight of those as well. The taproom gave you the log cabin feel. Especially the bathrooms (is that weird to comment on the bathrooms.. oh well).. A very laid back vibe that you can tell the same folks likely hit up all the time! Diggin it. read more

I love everything about this place! I'm a huge fan of breweries to begin with. I like their vibes a lot more than the bar scene. But this is, hands down, my favorite brewery! The beer is amazing and they've got a really wide selection!! I always ask the bartenders for their suggestions when I'm ordering. (PS - The bartenders are quite easy on the eyes. All of the best beards and man buns in Boone are generally in that one building, I swear! Hahah) On top of the great selection, great service and great beards... the live music is always incredible. So many talented, acoustic musicians perform there and it really adds to the environment. They also have a food truck parked there most of the time. Their pizzas are pretty decent. My only complaint is the prices on the food truck are kinda steep. I usually suck it up and get one so I can eat without leaving my friends, but I'm not sure they're really worth the price! read more

My love for craft beer was matched perfectly with AMB's vast selection of local craft brews. What started as such a small establishment, has grown into a flourishing town favorite (especially with the college kids on Thursdays $3 drafts!). They have over 30 different beers and ciders to choose from making this a spot where anyone in your group can find something they like. They also have board games and such that you can enjoy while you're passing the time with friends. They have a permanent food truck that sits outside serving patrons that need a bite to eat. I've never actually ordered anything from it but the menu items looked pretty good. Each time I visit Boone, I try and pop into this little gem to get some unique, one-of-a-kind beers! read more

After sampling many of Appalachian Mountain Brewery's ciders and beers we actually planned our trip to Boone in order to visit the brewery. We were not left disappointed by this highlight to our trip. My wife has become a cider lover and was beyond excited that she could have a huge selection of delicious ciders. Her favorite was a "Cidermosa", which was one of their dry ciders that was mixed with orange juice! I am a beer lover and enjoyed all of the wonderful beers I had.
