As someone who has spent the last 2+ years only watching movies at the Superlux this was a nice treat for my wallet. Tickets are cheap (and you can get tickets with popcorn and a drink for cheap!), there is ample parking for the theater, and the seats are much more comfortable than your typical AMC. You also get to choose them in advance as well. Sure, it's not the same comfort as the superlux but at 1/3 of the price there are no complaints. Count me as a repeat customer! read more

It was a Saturday afternoon and I simply wanted to go see a movie with my three children to treat them. It is not often I take my kids to the cinema, however I felt I owed it to them and they were very excited to see Us. Although it is rated R and contains some scary content, my kids are each 16 years of age and very much mature enough to attend a film which such content. I did not think there would be any issues until I arrived at the cinema, only to be told my kids could not attend the movie, even if accompanied by me, a proud 25-year old father. After trying to convince the staff of the theater to let us watch the movie, the employees then threatened to call the police if we did not leave immediately! I am utterly appalled at the service and mistreatment of customers here at Apple Cinemas, and I would like to make it clear that I will NOT be returning to this venue, and I will spread nothing but negative remarks about it. I had a great experience at the Apple Cinema in Cambridge last night! I want to give Chris, one of the stellar employees there, a huge shout out for his excellent customer service. He was extremely friendly and kind and very good at his job welcoming people into the space. When my friend and I told him we had just retired as elementary school teachers, he couldn't have been more supportive and complimentary, thanking us for our service and making sure to tell us about the discounts for older patrons. This place just got renovated recently and the seats are great. However they really need to open up more counters to purchase tickets the line is always crazy. Also they have to open up the upstairs food stand. Nobody likes to wait 20 minutes to buy popcorn. The stand upstairs looks abandoned and just gives the theater a old feel. read more

I have been going to this theatre for 10 years now, it's convenient and has all the latest movies and is easy to walk to (for me at least). When it comes to looks and service the theatre was never the best. Since being sold and rebranded as the apple Cinemas this place has changed a lot, it has new reclining seats completely remodeled lobby and online ordering. My issue with this is it cuts out the local residents who go impulse watching. There is only self service checkin desks where you buy a ticket with credit, I usually buy with cash. Due to the large amount of automation it is often hard to talk to someone about a problem. Finally they do not reserve any seats for people walking in, the movie could be sold out hours before the movie starts. Leaving little room for me if I have some free time and want to go to a movie with some friends. read more

My first and second times EVER going were fine and only past 2 weeks here-Tuesday for their special rate. honestly? best experience ever:Sound was great,no one was there at 4pm,the seats were new,the 2 very nice staff members had to do everything from snacks/ticket sales/movie check/clean up/sound check. They gave a crap about us all,rare and appreciated. Appearantly renovations were done,my friends spoke if old seats. I wish there was an incline to accomodate the nice seats, my girlfriend almost had to stare at the back of the chair in front...until movies are simulcast there its not cool,but 5rows back its no big deal. Incline would fix that. other perks:coffee and tea are available,we actually did not get soda. Bucket o popcorn is a great deal,you may add as much butter as you want,salt too,free refils are a "yes plz" and was done ....and done again (suffer later) It's a modest theater,i was upstairs for one movie,and in the bottom back of the building for the other. I loved its old school charm. My last issue is with ALL theaters: Doors should open into theater room,handle on outside (hall) sucks,hands full of snacks! only so many hands yo! Beware of buying tickets online. My niece and I bought tickets for a movie way in advance, were able to print them out at the theater, and were then told we had the wrong tickets and had no seats once we had been sitting there for 20 minutes because of a mistake in the printed assigned seat. Not only that, the horrible manager came in and humiliated us as if the mixup was our fault and not the theater's. We were the first ones there, and a woman who came in late was prioritized over our tickets because of the stupid online mixup. After said awful manager realized that she was indeed the problem and being ridiculously rude and scary to the child I was with instead of simply asking what the mixup was, she refunded the ticket, but I was essentially kicked out of a movie theater and yelled at for something that wasn't my fault. Even though this is the closest theater to my house, I use to stay from this theater. It was dirty and had just the old fashioned non-reclining seats. Over the past few years, they have made improvements. This past weekend, I had a great experience. I bought my reserved ticket online. The elapsed time from the parking lot to my seat was two minutes, i.e., super efficient. They have gone from two stars to four. Since Harvard Square closed there are also fewer options. I do wish that it was still a bit cleaner. read more

No, Jesus. Just.....no. They get 2 stars because the ticket agent was a sweetheart and super friendly but that's where all that ends. Go dumpster diving at an office building on trash night, with a little luck you'll find a couple of rickety chairs. Now superglue the chairs to your cement garage floor, set up your parents' projection screen circa 1985 and voila! You just recreated Apple Cinema. Yes, prices are much cheaper than other theaters but that would be because other theaters do not simulate a home theater in your garage. Don't be cheap. Return some cans or do what you need to do to afford the $12 at a nice AMC and avoid this like the plague. Forget these reviews that say it's "charming" or "A nice small theater." It's all super secret squirrel code talk for SHIT CAN. Kendall cinema is also a nice, charming, small theater and it's simultaneously modernized and functional. Basically, if you can walk and chew gum at the same time, go to Kendall. Unless you want to spit your gum out. Then kindly proceed to Apple and add it to their sticky floors. read more

DISCRIMINATORY TICKET PRACTICES- I was buying tickets for Frozen 2 on Tuesday, Dec 24. The five teenagers ahead of me in line were offered the $4 Tuesday discount. When I tried to buy 3 tickets for my family, which includes a 4 year old, I was told by the clerk that it was a HOLIDAY and I would have to pay full price ($ 11 per adult, $9 for under 12yo). I politely mentioned that I saw that the five teens ahead of me received the Tuesday discount, and the clerk informed me that he was the manager and had total "DISCRETION" to give the discount as he saw fit. He said that those patrons ahead of me were "kids", and somehow more deserving of the discount. I just moved to Cambridge this mid August, and I will always remember the day my mom, little brother, and I went to this theater for the first time exactly one month afterwards. I will remember this theater not because its a crappy place(which in my option isn't) but because I love this place. I saw the movie Planes in this theater and enjoyed every minute of the condiments and prices that are cheaper than your everyday movie theater ticket prices. This was before I read all those hateful crappy reviews posted about my local movie theater. So do you think that changed my mind ? Think twice! I returned to this theater to view the newly released Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 and I enjoyed this old but groovy theater even more than when I first walked in its front door! So forget the haters; this theater is and will remain my favorite location to view the newest Blockbuster hits in these parts. To me it's just that epic. read more

Went to Apple Cinemas on Monday 12/28/15 for a Hindi movie at 1 pm. The theater was cold and the heat did not come on throughout the 3 hours that the movie ran despite several patrons complaining to the person at the Customer Service desk. We had to keep our winter coats on for the entire show. At the end of the show we went back to the Customer Service desk and voiced our complaint again. The explanation given was that the heat had been turned off a few days ago because of the warm weather! LOL! the weather had turned cold a few days ago. They said they turned the heat back on but it takes a long time for the large theater to heat up!!!! In addition the water fountain in the lobby did not function, It had a sign saying it was out of order and the faucet was missing. The hand dryer in the ladies room did not function. There are no paper towels either. There is a sign offering $4.75 movie tickets all day Monday and Tuesday. Beware, they do not apply to "foreign" movies! read more

It's an extremely old school theater, but we live around the corner so it's convenient. They constantly have Groupons, which makes for a cheap date. The popcorn is questionable. I'm pretty sure they pop it day(s) in advance. The seats are ehhhkay. The Coke free style machine brings you back to today's times. read more

This theater was a great date night! I was only able to give 3 stars because of the actual lay out and service. The theaters here are veryyyy small. Also, I had a Groupon for 2 tickets with 2 medium popcorns included.. I asked the women if she could just give us one large and she said no... I even asked if she could literally dump the contents of 2 medium bags in I wasn't trying to get more popcorn my boyfriend and I just didn't want to each hold bags. She still said no I can't be mad because i understand it's policy but it was just weird she said I'd have to pay for the bucket?!? Hey guys! You ever wonder what it was like to go to the movies in 1993? Well guess what? Now you can find out! The charms of Apple Cinemas are aplenty. Outdated decoration, junky video game machines, rigged games, small and limited snack bar. You can't beat the free and ample parking, the new spacious seats, and the fact that you can sneak whatever you want - beers, Whole Foods take out, Trader Joe's snacks - into the theatre and no one cares. The ticket prices are very reasonable - under $10 for adult tickets and they carry most current movies. Their operation is financed by the Bollywood movies that they carry and the American films are almost second banana. I guess that works! Word to the wise - you can't buy tickets online through Fandango here. read more

Re: Apple Cinema in Simsbury CT has been recently renovated. On 11/18/2019 I went to watch Ford vs. Ferrari. In theater 1, after the movie started and the lighting was low, my wife and I climbed to the top row. At the top step, I stumbled when I tripped over a piece of wood or wall that extended into the walkway. I fell and drew a little blood on my shin. Not a big deal, but who knows when it will become a big deal. Theater management needs to do a re-design if they hope to avoid a future lawsuit. AVOID THIS BAD APPLE My husband and I attended the 7:15 pm showing of Gone Girl on 12/12/14. During the screening, there were about 5 or 6 times that loud noise leaked from the room next door that was showing Hunger Games. It was distracting and broke the spell of the suspense. When I spoke with the manager about this afterward he became very defensive and asked why I didn't come out to complain during the movie. (Because I didn't want to miss the movie!) He made no effort to apologize. In addition to the noise problem, I was not impressed by the bad smell in the hallways of the complex (smelled like a bathroom), or the concrete floors of the screening room, which were slanted down and which I imagine were hosed down at the end of the evening to clean up the debris that was evident when we were there. If you want a much better experience I suggest the Somerville Theatre in Davis Square--it has a homey, friendly environment and nice big screens, or the Kendall Square Cinema, which has a great slate of films and a professional, clean facility. read more

Apple Cinemas gets a solid four stars from me because you can see first-run Hollywood movies here for very reduced rates. The inflation of movie ticket prices these days is absolutely ridiculous, so any theater that offers patrons the chance to dodge these hefty fees gets at least a few points in my book. Other than that, Apple Cinemas is relatively average. The new seats are comfy and the staff have been friendly when I've visited, but some of the screens are tiny and the location, right in the middle of a mall parking lot, is pretty underwhelming. (I usually go to this theater for horror movies and comedies, saving the widescreen blockbusters for Boston Common.) But again, this is the kind of theater that you visit for pure economic reasons. In fact, if the theater were any fancier or located in a posher part of town, the prices would likely double. So, you give some, you gain some. read more

This place certainly isn't the ritziest looking, but it has a lot going for it: tons of selection, prices that are significantly lower than AMC or Loews, brand new seats (as of early 2014), and most notably tons and tons of free parking, which is the main reason I go there. They also seem to have a steady rotation of Bollywood movies if you're looking for that. Friendly service too. Constructive criticism: the decor is a little outdated, and the bathroom is a little grungy, but overall I would def recommend this place.
