This Apple store was great, easy to access, right off the thruway, in a very nice, large, indoor mall. I went to get my Mac Pro laptop fixed. As soon as I approached, I was greeted and signed in. (I did have an appointment.) I had to wait only minutes to see a tech person. I reviewed the laptop problem with him and left my computer to be fixed. As promised, they contacted me later to tell me they'd be sending the computer on to a more advanced Apple repair center. Great communication, fast and very friendly service. Very glad I went here. Note: My appointment was early (10:15 a.m.), and that's probably the best time to go. read more

I had to drop my computer off yesterday and was able to get it back today in perfect running order. As soon as I walked into the store, I was treated in a true professional matter by Tyler who directed me to Brett to solve my issues. He was brilliant and more important, he took his time to answer all of my questions.......something a 75 year old retired teacher has lots of. I could not have been more relaxed and assured. Today when I picked up my computer, I was helped by Peter and Casey who when they realized that I needed it today, went out of their way to make it happen. This store is absolutely racist. I went in to get my phone fixed and immediately was given the cold shoulder. After I let them know my appointment they said were backed up and I can come back in 2 hours. Or I can go to another Apple store. Now the problem with all of this was that the store was no where near full. So I waited and I kid you not a middle aged white lady comes in and says she had appointment but it was until later but she needed her phone fixed as fast as possible. They immediately took her to the back tables and started helping her. So I go up to them and I ask what was going on I thought they were busy. I came here yesterday to pick up an early birthday present. It was something that was purchased online, and to be picked up at the store. I get there and tell an employee I'm picking up an item that was purchased for me. He asks if I have the order number, I don't. I didn't buy it, so I wouldn't have that. Do I have the email it was purchased under? Off the top of my head, no, let me check my phone. Yikes, phone is dead. I offer my last name again, but he tells me that's not how they look up orders. So he asks for my email, and thankfully this somehow pulls up the order. He goes to the back and comes out with a laptop in no more than two minutes. Leads me to believe, there isn't much to go through in the back room. And hmm, what's that on the side of the box in big bold print? My name! Which I offered three times, only to be be told "we can't find things by name, just by order number". I guess I'd understand that better, if it was a security measure, but he asked for ID as well. It was tedious, time consuming, and made no sense. Then he offers to set it up for me. I figured he asked because the process might be somewhat difficult or confusing. My last apple purchase was over a year ago, so maybe things changed. No, not at all. He literally just opened the box, and had me fill in my name and language preferences. It's nothing one couldn't do on their own at home. I love my new laptop by the way, it's fantastic. i made an appointment at the genius bar to assess my apple watch. the associate didn't explain what she was doing, didn't communicate AT ALL, and spent more time in the back room than with me. she didn't attempt to do anything at all, told me my watch was out of warranty and to get a new one, and then left. zero effort to explain the situation. after the 20 minutes i was there, i still have no explanation as to WHAT is wrong with my watch other than it's broken. clearly i knew it was broken, or i wouldn't have made an appointment for a broken apple watch. you're the "genius" please tell me what is wrong with it? i have no more information than when i went in, and had to go in during a pandemic for this. absolutely zero out of five stars. read more

I went there to get my back camera fixed and the total was 79.99 which is fine. They ran another test to make sure everything was good but it came back saying my facial recognition wasn't working (even tho I literally used it in front of them to pay for extra storage since data could possibly be deleted if not saved properly). Anyways when the girl told me my facial recognition was not working, I told her how because I just used it in front of her and she looked just as confused. She went to her manager and came back saying there's nothing they can do unless I pay 399.99 so they can replace my whole phone. I left because that's insane. My phone was perfectly fine and I never did anything to the back camera, it was all internal and on its own. But I did call Apple care line and they literally helped me fix my facial recognition by doing a 2minute procedure. It just comes to show that the workers here would rather you drop about 400 dollars than to do their actual job by making sure they've done everything before suggesting for a new replace or an upgrade. read more

Second time of driving 2 hours to do business here. First time, they couldn't arrange to sell me a phone to be serviced on my Verizon account and I had to leave empty handed after about 3 hours. Second time was for a warranty replacement issue and they didn't have the exact one (which had been purchased 1.5 months earlier. Had to send me out empty handed again telling me to call 800 number. The people who own them are like a kid who gets beat up every day at school -- they really don't mind it because they don't know any better. The other kind of computer is the Apple. Lots of people sneer at them and call the elitist and shallow. Lots of companies have sneered too - a surprising number of whom are now gone, while Apple lives on. People who give Apple products an honest try find that they make amazing and wonderful products -- whether it's iPhones, Mac Computers, iPods, or Apple TV. The Apple store is the best place to go to encounter this stuff. Don't expect the Apple store to be anything like other technology stores you have visited. In fact, it will be almost exactly the opposite. You'll find lots of attentive sales staff, but you won't be pushed into buying some high-margin "up-sell" like at the box stores. Make sure you check out the free classes -- surprisingly informative, and well, free. If you find the whole Apple thing perplexing and mystical, you owe it to yourself to get over to Crossgates and visit the Apple store. If nothing else, the experience will serve as a reminder that Americans can still do some things remarkably well. In this day and age, that's pretty comforting. read more

Made an appointment to have my MacBook looked at and arrived on time only to learn the appointment was to STAND IN LINE. I had an appt for the Genius Bar, but had to wait another 35 mins outside the store for those ahead of me to finish buying, talking, looking around before I was seen for my appointment 35 mins after standing in line. I spent a total of 8 mins actually in the store to drop my MacBook off for service. So 35 mins in line for 8 mins of service. The tech Brett was nice enough, but I cannot overlook the fact I scheduled this appointment to avoid crowds and people and still had to stand in a crowded line. They should make it apparent that your appointment is only to stand in line not to be seen at that time slot. Not a happy nurse from her all day on her feet shift. read more

After reading the reviews here, I was very skeptical, and actually dreading going to return, and swap my remote for the Apple TV. Then again, who wouldn't after seeing most of these reviews right? I explained my concerns about this to Apple support, mentioned I was coming from an hour away, etc. End result, went in, was seen in like 30 seconds, swapped, paired the new remote for me, and was out in about 5 minutes total. I was only reminded not to pay so much attention to reviews because ones most willing to post are for negative reasons, and each situation is based on the individual. Furthermore, that most will leave out crucial elements about what they may or may not have done to get the response they received. Not for all of course, but am sure a good many. I have been a loyal Apple customer for years. I have owned iPhones since 2007, have always used Mac computers, and, as a tech-savvy engineer, have always praised the benefits of Apple as a fantastic product. Apple's customer service historically has been top-notch, and a big reason I've been a believer in the company. Key word: Historically. Somewhere along the way, Apple must've forgotten its customers. I had received an iPhone 7 as a Christmas present last year. 3 weeks(!) after the warranty expired, the phone began to fail due to a manufacturing defect. Of course, having received the phone as a gift, I had not had the opportunity to purchase extra insurance on the phone. I spent a total of 4 hours at the Apple Store in Crossgates Mall being shuffled about between various technicians, service representatives, and managers, without EVER receiving any concrete help or progression. The technicians advised me to restore my phone, damaging my data and causing me to lose ALL of my valuable photos and information in the process. There are memories there that I will not ever get back thanks to their "Expert Guidance." After rendering my phone worthless by restarting my phone when there was an antenna issue (thus not allowing me to ever start the phone again), the store promised to replace my phone; only to inform me, an hour later without any prior indication, that I had a $400 charge before tax in order to replace my phone! As if I would spend that much money after the way I had been treated! The managers, particularly Janelle and Amanda, treated me with the utmost disrespect, insulting me and trying to take advantage of me. They actually tried to rob me of my phone's trade in value and take advantage of me by "generously offering" the "opportunity" to trade in my phone AND spend $100 out of pocket in order to purchase an iPhone from 2 generations prior while also "upgrading" my memory storage from 128 gb to 32 gb. I ended up taking my phone to my carrier store, where I was actually treated with RESPECT, and promptly purchased a brand new Galaxy S8+. Thanks to this experience I will never buy another Apple Product again. If you ever do want to purchase one, I would HIGHLY advise you that avoid the toxic environment at this store at all costs!!! read more

The store is rather large compared to a few I have been to. A lot of staff working here but I must say they do a great job in helping people. Didn't hear one angry customer. If I were held captive in the mall by some rebel insurgent shopping organization, this is the store that I would want to be locked up in. Love the Apple store! The products speak for themselves, but the experience is why you go through the headache of actually visiting the place as opposed to the cyber store. The sales staff seems to own every product on the floor and they can tell you why it's all a "must have". Once you give the OK on the latest and greatest, they slide your credit card through a hand-held contraption...no waiting in line for some old lady to count out 86 cents from her change purse. They hook you up after the purchase with a brief education and get you started with enough ammo to make you dangerous. Bite the bullet on the mall visit...the apple store is worth it! read more

I've been a fan of Apple products for some time now. This Apple store seems to be above the rest of them in terms of customer service, which is really what a brick and mortar store is all about. I flew back to Albany for the holidays, and on my flight my water bottle exploded or leaked due to the change in pressure. Unfortunately, my iPod was soaked and didn't work. I knew I had bought the Applecare package, but I didn't think it would cover water damage. I told the genius at the genius bar what happened. She said that she could see corrosion, but the water indicator wasn't triggered. My warranty was 6 days expired. But she still gave me a new iPod. It doesn't get much better than that. read more

Reading the previous reviews, I really had to laugh. I have been to various Apple Stores across the continent, and they all have a commonality. They are in heavily shopped areas, the are full of shiny, attractive things, and kids. Both the sales staff and customers tend to be kids, but, what are you going to do? What impresses me the most about the experience is how smoothly it goes once you relax and decide to do things the Apple way. Yes, it can be frustrating if you think outside the Apple box, but do your homework, i.e. make an appointment, check in, bring your order number, and relax, and it goes smooth as teflon coated glass. In that it is a great deal like dealing with a computer. It will do what you want, but only if you speak the computer's language, and allow the programming to function as it should. Otherwise, it is exactly like a computer, in that you will be frustrated, angry and upset. While appointments for the genius bar usually run late, unless you get there very early in the day, but service does take time, and the 15 minute windows Apple sets up are more than somewhat optomistic. read more

I was never introduced to Apple until I had to deal with windows computer issues as a student worker in the computers. That is when I started playing with other operating systems and found that windows and linux are better operating systems is you are a techno savvy and a software geek. I found apple to be the simplest machines (computers) to operate. They are effective and do what they are supposed to do instead of giving error messages. The mouse is only one click and it is 10 times more effective than the double click mouse on windows. The hardware is the best available in the price range and softwares are designed by keeping the consumer in mind. I love the Apple store at the Crossgates mall because I think it is like an oasis in the middle of all the craziness. I liked it much better when not everybody was going in to the store to try their hands on the apple products like iPhone and iPad. I still like the store but it doesn't have the same feeling anymore. The staff is very helpful and they don't bother anyone until asked for. The display is very very beautiful and all the necessary things are in perfect place. It is pricy but value for your money is good. The most important is the shopping experience at the Apple store is such a good experience that I visit them every time I go to the mall. read more

Came in to fix my back camera, and in the span of minutes an employee at the Apple Crossgates broke my front camera, leaving me with no way to take pictures, when I need them for work in a pandemic. Came back to confront employee's about this issue, and was told the camera they broke would cost 299$ to fix. It was clear the scam this apple store participates in, extremely abusive and unprofessional. I made an appointment for the Genius Bar on the Apple app. I showed up and was checked in. It took about 10 minutes for me to be helped but that was very reasonable, as I was late and the store was packed. The reason for my appointment was to have the battery replaced in my iPhone 5. It was free because of Apple's battery replacement program for defective iPhone 5s. They said if would take about an hour. This was great because it was quicker than expected and the store is located in this great mall. I just roamed around and bought stuff and then came back for my iphone. It was ready right on time. I just had to sign for it and I was done. It was a great experience and my first time in an Apple Store. read more

I've given the Crossgates Apple Store a negative review due to the fact that it is supporting a foolish Apple policy whereby Apple refuses to service its own computers if the iMac iPhone iPad has ever been serviced by a non-authorized Apple repair center. Buyer Beware! When I let the Lead Tech know that I was very upset by this policy, he offered to connect me to the store manager who he said could, "perhaps provide some sort of discount on a replacement computer". If you're interested in more details about my debacle then read below, otherwise you've got the gist of it. I am a small business customer of this Apple Store. Five years ago I purchased a $3,500 iMac, now long out of warranty. Until recently it had never moved from my home office. Recently the computer became non-responsive and displayed blue and white lines running diagonally across the display screen. A quick search online suggested either the display card or the motherboard. I brought it to a local computer repair shop who put a used mother board in it (a cheap fix) but they found that board to be faulty and hence reinstalled my original board. They noted that new parts are most economically purchased directly through the Apple Store and therefore I should bring it to Apple to perform the service work. Upon opening up the back of the computer the Apple tech noted that a few screws were missing and a few in the wrong place and that an IR sensor was bent. I was asked if someone else had worked on this computer. I gave an honest answer, yes. I was then informed that Apple policy restricts authorized dealers from working on a computer that has been previously worked on by a non-authorized shop. I asked the lead tech and later the store manager to imagine having his Subaru worked on at Monro muffler and then bringing it back to Subaru and having Subaru refuse to service your car because Monro had worked on it. I asked for an explanation why. The store manager politely offered the following explanations as possible reasons for this Apple policy, "if an unqualified person worked on the computer, the Apple tech would have no way of knowing what was previously done to the computer and therefore it's possible that the Apple tech could be injured as a result, might not be able to repair the computer, or could replace a part and have the new part fail...which is now under a 90 day warranty"...all risks which Apple is apparently unwilling to make. I told him that I would be happy to pay in advance and also sign a waiver releasing them from any liability. He politely explained that it wasn't his policy but rather Apple's policy. My negative review is a reflection of a foolish Apple policy which spits in the face of commonsense customer support in place of cover your $#%. Either the tech-support team is not trained well enough to deal with a few missing and misplaced screws, bent IR sensor and unplugged cables (as they found to be the case with my iMac) or they feel that their bottom-line could be negatively impacted if someone else's repairs causes their newly installed part/s to fail prematurely ... while under warranty. I'll guess it's the latter. I'll also guess that this type of policy helped add to the $40+ billion profit last year. Meanwhile I have a $3500 iMac computer paperweight which Apple refuses to repair. The people that come to this place are annoying. I rarely come here. I'm not one of those people who have to get the latest Iphone yet live in a bad neighborhood with no food in the fridge just to say I have the latest Iphone. I get that vibe from many that FREQUENT here. Another user here said this is a nightmare for people with anxiety....so true!!! Its brightly lit yet its still dim. People walking all over these science class lab tables. Each table contains teh latest Iphone/watch/etc. Youre USUALLY greeted by a person who takes your name down in order for you to be helped. Sometimes these greeters stand outside the door, other times they are inside. Uusally they get to people quick, The service is good. The staff is knowledgeable and they make the expereience bearable. Overall, its a good place. And I would have to force myself to come here for any of my APPLE needs. However, I hate the crowd that frequents here. I refuse ot believe everyone there has $1000 to spend on a phone!!!! hen they already have a fully functioning phone. You have people here who are hardworking folks that are looking to buy a new phone since their older phone died out on them..I understand. I was very hesitant to go here with all the bad reviews but I promised myself I'd leave a good one if I felt like they deserved it. My phone broke so I scheduled an appointment the night before to get a replacement (I have AppleCare). When I arrived, I did have to wait in a line for about 15 min, get a health screen check and then I was able to enter the store. Inconvenient, yes. But welcome to COVID. Once I did enter the store, Curtis took great care of me. He was friendly and efficient. I told him the problem, he helped me set up my new replacement phone and I was on my way less than 30 min later.
