I purchased a new monitor and was dissatisfied with the performance. Poor resolution (picture was…read moregranular). I feel it was a setting either on my computer or the monitor itself. I was forwarded to Geek Squad and was told I would need to purchase a service contract (~$250) for them to be able to help me. I tried to call Best Buy and could only get their virtual assistant. I was never able to speak with a human. I went to the store on Sunday morning to return a computer monitor. Customer service told me that because it was a third-party sale I would need to return it myself. I went on-line and the order did say it was a third-party purchase from New Egg. It also said my return options were to ship the monitor back myself or to bring it to A BEST BUY STORE AND THEY WOULD SHIP IT FOR ME. The other irritation was that all the customer service rep could say was a 3rd party purchase (through Best Buy) and you need to ship it yourself. Some training of employees would be a good thing. Customer service etiquette would also be appreciated.

I have been in his store and watched as customers, neighbors, senior citizens, have come in with "locked up" laptops. They clicked on "something" and now have the blinking virus screen. He just smiles, opens up their computer and has miraculously fixed a few right in front of me. He knows their names. He makes them comfortable. They didn't need to call for an appointment 3 days from now. That's why he has been in business for so many years. If you need a computer, or need a repair, do yourself a favor and go to Computer Sense. You won't be sorry.

Instead we waited for an hour, much of what was spent with staff trying to upsell us to a new phone. When we finally convinced them we just wanted a new battery they said it would be another two hours. They managed to sell us an add-on battery pack ($50) through an uncharacteristically clueless salesperson who did not know that it came with a charging cable or that the cable, when discovered in the packaging, was not compatible with our phone.

After admonishing them for considering putting their computer into the vile hands of the generally-incompetent shitbirds at Geek Squad, Computer Renaissance is usually the place that I recommend. I don't deal with them for service (at least not directly) because I don't need to, but I do interact with their staff when I'm looking to purchase parts. From these interactions, I can safely say that unlike Geek Squad, these guys really know what they're talking about. Not only are they very familiar with the more advanced and high-end solutions and products, but they're also helpful when it comes to the more standard and common equipment. In other words, they're not the place that's going to pressure you into an upsell. They understand all facets of the industry well enough to recommend a solution that meets your needs, and they're certainly proficient enough to trust your computer to for repair. I can go into this place and talk to them about components for the $5000 uber workstation that I'm building, but also know that my completely computer-illiterate family member can go here and they won't talk down to her or try to sell her something that she obviously doesn't need. From my perspective, this is a great shop because they sell components and accessories that generally aren't available as in-store items at competitors like Best Buy or Wal-Mart. If you're looking for a less-common adapter cable of some sort, chances are that Computer Renaissance will have it in stock and at a decent price. Other places like Best Buy, Wal-Mart, or even online-only retailers like Amazon and NewEgg, will have the same parts, but will have to ship it to you... so you add a delay in receiving the item on top of potential shipping charges. Definitely give these guys a call first if you're looking for something, because you may save yourself some time and some money.
