I only come in here to see my girl, Amanda S. She always take excellent care of me, helping me get my first iPhone (I KNOW HOW TO USE EMOJIS NOW!) and then my first iMac (the 27 inch beauty, Goldie). She will be the one to help J out with his iPhone once he makes jump to Apple. Excellent customer service aside, this store is great. Easily accessible by public transit, delicious eating options around, a Starbucks just steps away, the plaza is a nice place to sit, plus, the building itself it just very pretty. Compared to the Michigan Ave store, the experience is more relaxing, because there aren't tourist adults and children crawling all over the place. Bought the item and reserved a time for pickup and I'm still outside waiting for 30min because they can't get enough staff prepared or they aren't thinking ahead to have the item ready to go when you arrive. Magicians! I've been in the Apple ecosystem for 10+ years but still use other systems for other devices. Regardless, I have my gripes with the product, software, retail division and corporate way BUT this one instance was fantastic. Any time I've had to go to the store I dread it because with an appointment the wait is still ridiculous and somehow I always end up paying for some nonsense. Today was amazing. My screen died yet my phone is almost brand new. I didn't have an appointment but was still welcomed in on a busy Sunday afternoon. The check in dudes were awesome and actually solved my issue on the spot. The line was horrific but when it was my turn, they treated me like the only client in the store. I can't believe I'm about to say this, but man thank god for this Apple Store. The Scenario: A busted iPhone 3GS out of warranty that I didn't purchase myself. Now, there are a few more details along the way, but that it is the high level Yelp! summary to keep everyone from being bored. The Solution: After 20 minutes of explaining my case, and being real with the Apple Genius, I asked if they would be willing to meet me halfway and help replace my phone. The guy at the desk said it would be a long shot based on what I had told him (and what was in the system) but he raised the issue to his manager. Rather than just being told what to do, the manager and the genius came over to me and we talked together about the situation. "Normally we don't do this, but just for today I'm going to offer to replace your phone for $99". This was like pure joy to my ears. Buying a replacement would have cost many hundreds of dollars online, and the staff was cool enough to hear me out and meet me at a financially manageable agreement. I told them how appreciative I was, and true to form, I wanted to spread the Karma. Although I haven't been completely in love with my iPhone, I am totally sold on Apple's customer service. People who are intelligent, that speak English, and who are sympathetic to your needs... Wow, no wonder they have the highest market capitalization out of any technology company. I was looking to switch from Samsung to Apple. There was a gentleman that watched me enter the location and immediately acknowledged me and asked "What brings me in today?"...After listening, he directed me to a table with a warm invite. I believe her name is Shonda....introduced herself within 5 mins..and immediately connected with me with a genuine smile and probing questions. Extremely knowledgeable about Apple..differences of devices..pros of using Apple..financing options..classes..etc. She provided in depth knowledge and was actively listening to answer the specific questions I asked and did not go on a tangent. Shonda also apologized for an employee that interrupted our conversation and put his back to me..without acknowledging my presence. The store was clean..sleek efficient...minus clutter...and there was an energy about the store I did NOT expect. Smiles on the majority of employees and the energy made me want to be in the store. When the Apple Store came to Lincoln Park, it was a welcome edition to the city. No longer did Mac fans and iPhone enthusiasts have to trudge down to Michigan Avenue for purchases, repairs, browsing, etc. The store is large, full of helpful people, and well-stocked. I have gone there for a couple of repairs, and they have always turned around my device in less time than estimated. There is also a little courtyard with tables to while away some time, and the store's WiFi network extends out there. The store is easily accessible on the Red Line or via the North Ave or Halsted busses. There is a public parking garage just east of Halsted, but here's the trick. The Apple Store validates for $2 for up to two hours, but other stores, including the lovely Sur la Table, validate for free (again, I think for up to two hours). So if I need an Apple fix, I often swing into Sur la Table to pick up a new set of measuring spoons, kitchen towels, a present, whatever (I always need something) and get the "free" parking in addition. read more

This was the worst customer service experience that I have ever had with an Apple Store. I brought my phone in because the screen was not responding to touch on my iPhone 5s and I was unaware this had anything to do with my previous screen crack being replaced. The apple store agreed to repairs however returned my phone after taking it in saying they had declined repairs because of a third party product. Not only did they return it without repair but they did not even put the screen back the way I had given it to them and BROKE IT! My screen then read black and white lines. I have since had it fixed by the third party repair store where they informed me of a few things you should know. 1. They do use apple certified products and will return that damaged screen to apple. 2. By having my phone with the screen open the phone is susceptible to oxygen reaching harmful chemicals that can BLOW UP! Please think twice before going to this store or buying an apple product. I would give this place zero stars if I could. I called the number provided and got a computerized prompter. It took me four tries to tell "him" that I wanted to check to see if an IPhone 5 wall charger was in-stock at the North Avenue store. The lady to whom I eventually spoke took 15 minutes to look up whether they had the product in the store, and then proceeded to tell me that it costs $38!!! $38 dollars for a wall charger? Oh Jeebus, thank you for making my dreams come true. An Apple store without tourists in it! It's a miracle!! This store is wonderful and for their opening weekend, they seemed flawless. Employees knowledgeable, the place was hoppin', and the computers were oh, so so purdy and new. I must admit, one of the reasons I've held off getting an iMac is dealing with the Michigan Avenue location. The tourists, the snooty staff, and if my computer breaks I have to lug it down there? Forgetaboutit. So now there's this beautiful thing here with it's open and welcoming glass facades, the great porch area between the train station and the store with tables, a fountain, and free Wi-Fi. This Sunday, as I was eating breakfast, I spilled a huge glass of milk and it fell all over my Macbook Pro keyboard! :( Tried to dry as much of it as I could and rushed up North to the Apple Store on North Ave. The so called 'Genius' told me I would have to spend over $800 on a repair or just buy a brand new one for over $1200. He told me there was no chance at having any of my pictures and data saved. I was so sad and even more upset that he refused to at least try to touch my Macbook because in his 'Genius' words, 'there is no point in doing that, its too late'. SO RUDE. He completely changed his demeanor when I asked him how much new MacBooks are going for. Too bad I was testing him, and before he knew it, I left. Found an independent computer repair business, and they helped me more than Apple ever could. Not only that but my pictures and data were saved for a HUGE fraction of the estimate that the 'Genius' gave me. Apple just wanted me to buy a new laptop. Thanks for nothing, so called 'Geniuses'. Don't lie to me and tell me my data absolutely can't be saved when it really can be saved. I question their training and education. My iPhone was not charging and I made an appointment and took it in. This was actually the 2nd Apple store I went to as the first one I went to spent a total of 2 minutes looking at the phone and did nothing. The tech looked at it for 5 minutes, tried charging it and said there was nothing that could be done and I had to buy a new iPhone. I do not know if this was the tech or a store position to sell more iPhones, but doing nothing more than trying to plug it in to charge was an absolute waste of my time. I took my phone to a third party repair shop and they inspected it and determined it was the phone charging port. They replaced the charging port in less than 30 minutes and charged $75. The phone works perfect. You would think a trillion dollar company would have been able to figure out such a simple repair... read more

Try to avoid this apple store if possible. They are some of the more snooty "geniuses" I have ever met. You might pay for parking (Michigan Ave) or travel further (da 'Burbs), but you will have a much more pleasant experience elsewhere. I had to prove over and over again that the wifi on my 3 day old iPad mini was not connecting correctly, even after the "genius" couldn't pair it to their own wifi. I bought a Mac book pro here for a little over $1,000.00 This was in April of 2012. Out of no where it completely stopped working. I brought it back and they told me the logic board was cracked in half. I have no idea how this could have happened. They basically told me I was better off to buy a new computer than to get it fixed. I am fresh out of college and used all of my savings for this computer, I obviously cannot hash out another thousand dollars for a computer that's shelf life is apparently 1 year. More than being mad I am just disappointed in myself for thinking these products might be superior. They're the VCR's of our generation. I use this site for everything, but this is my first review. I guess I was waiting for a really good reason to write one. Well, I've got a good reason now. I bought my first macbook pro last Friday. After I left I stopped at the Whole Foods on Kingsbury, parked right under a street light, carefully hid my new computer and ran in to grab a pizza. You see where this is headed, right? I get out about five minutes later and my fiancee's window is smashed, macbook gone. Whoever took it new exactly where I'd put it since the moment I left the apple store. They ignored my ladies purse, her GPS, and the bags of X-massy stuff we'd just bought. They knew exactly where to find what they were after. How is it that this experience reflects poorly on the Apple Store? Because it's a pattern. From the Whole Foods manager I learned it was the third time someone had been followed from apple and robbed at his store. He told me other area business owners say it happens to people at their stores as well. Even the apple store manager I spoke with said he knew about this problem. Which leads me to wonder- why does everyone know about this except your customers? Why aren't they told that they are walking out of your store with a target on their backs? The store manager says he encourages his employees to tell customers to "go straight home," but the issue isn't really that people are getting robbed by being out and about in Chicago. That could happen most anywhere, to anyone. But I'm not one of those bewildered doofuses who carelessly flaunt their cellphone's then act surprised when they get snatched on the El. This is about PEOPLE BEING FOLLOWED AND ROBBED SPECIFICALLY FOR SHOPPING AT ONE LOCATION, FOR ONE BRAND. What if I went home? What if I dropped my fiancee and my computer off, then ran out to grab dinner? Would they have broken in and taken it, threatened or hurt her? There's no telling. Apple works hard to make sure their products are near-fetishized by the public, that it's less about a brand of computer than it is a lifestyle, but if you're going to encourage that level of fanaticism, you ought to provide some level of safety, and least within sight of the store itself. I used to think that Apple was the best place as far as customer service and the product they sell. That's changed in the past few months. Apple keeps growing and keeps selling but they haven't expanded their customer service section not they have provided proper training it seems. I've been to the store 3 times trying to sole a simple issue about my phone and every time I come in they tell me something different. I've reset all settings on my phone. I've reset my phone as a new phone and nothing. Now they tell me that it could be a bug, but they're not sure. I paid over $1000 for this phone and it's disappointing to know that nobody at the store can help me. Not to mention that it's very difficult to make an appointment and when you finally figure it out you have to come in whenever they feel like it. I'm tired of wasting my time with them. Went with my brother in law he never had bought from there ever he does not understand english 100% so I was translating for him and the guy at the front this was at 6:30 tall yesterday was asking him all these questions that he was trying to answer quick because the guy didn't even let us talk was asking questions quicker than anyone could answer very rude by the way so my brother in law was trying to find out on line what was the exact watch he wanted. This review is regarding their service department, since that's all I've ever done at this store. +1 Star: Free wifi while you wait +1 Star: For me not being charged for any of the repairs I've had here -3 Stars: See below... About a year ago, I took my partner's MacBook (white, plastic) in for repair of the top case. It was cracked near the edge and the Genius Bar employee said it would be covered by warranty because it was a known defect. Ok, cool, free repair and we'll get the computer back in a day or two. Go to the store to pick up the computer and find out that while replacing the top case, they fried the mother board. They can repair it in-house or send it to a regional facility. Since they can't handle replacing a plastic component, I didn't want them messing around with the important electronics, so I opted for the regional facility. Now it's going to be a week until I get the computer back, but don't worry, Apple will cover the cost of repair (no shit, you guys were the ones who fried it while handling it). What a waste of time. I don't recall every detail of that service fiasco since it was over a year ago, but it left a very sour taste and I have refused to step foot in that store since. Fast forward to this week. My MacBook was missing two rubber feet on the bottom. I've been a Mac user for over 5 years and have always had problems with these things popping off. The old iBooks used to be a really quick repair; just pop and click and the foot is replaced. Well, my late 2008 unibody MacBook has different rubber feet that require a 1 day service (there's an adhesive that has to dry as opposed to the old-style mechanical feet). I take my computer in, show the Genius Bar that I'm missing two rubber feet, and they say they'll replace them and I'll be able to get my computer in the next 1 day. Fast forward one day when I go to pick up my computer. The Apple store employee brings me my computer, shows me the bottom of it, and guess what? One of the rubber feet is missing! This is where it gets fun - instead of saying "I'm so sorry that the repair is not complete right now. Let's get this fixed up ASAP for you," I got a "are you sure this foot was missing when you dropped it off?" Let's think about the answers to this question: 1. Answer: "Yes, that foot was missing when I dropped it off." OK, then it was Apple's job to replace it and they didn't. 2. Answer: "No, that foot was there when I dropped it off." Well, this means Apple misplaced the foot - damaged my computer - and is trying to return it to me unfixed. I didn't see how this was an appropriate question for the employee to make. He brought it up a few times - how it must have fallen off during repair - and never apologized for the incompetent repair department. I'm about to make my THIRD trip to the store so I can pick up what is hopefully a MacBook with four rubber feet. Three trips for RUBBER FEET. Ludicrous. TL;DR: I've had two experiences with their service department that demonstrate incompetent technicians in the basement and bad customer service on the floor. Both times, I learned it's better to just live with a slightly faulty computer than bother getting it repaired to like-new condition since the repair process at this particular store is a f-ing headache. read more

THIS IS A GENIUS BAR REVIEW I had the same problem as ANGELA B, a few posts down. My apple cord got frayed AGAIN. I initially talked to a a GENIUS BAR REP called CHAD who denied over and over again that he has not seen this problem and it is not a problem at all. What a bunch of crock. I got a bit frustrated and in his own words he said " I am GOING TO DENY YOU SERVICE" and called the manager of the retail store. The manager of the store was another schmuck who said that he has not witnessed this problem and to top it off IT WAS MY FAULT due to ABUSE. I have replaced these adapter 5 times over the course of 3 yrs. I had to cough up 69 dollars ( he did agree to give me a 20 % percent discount) for a new adapter. Dont these apple geniuses read the reviews ON THEIR OWN Website. The apple magsafe 60w adapter has a ONE AND A HALF Star rating. I even showed the manager apple's website and his unbelievable reply was " I see people have given us a 4 star rating". At that point I convinced myself this a hopeless case. I am not going to argue basic statistics with a 40 yr old guy who has no idea how AVERAGE ratings are calculated. If this is the level of intelligence of a typical manager, apple, I wish you the best of luck. I urge anyone who has had a similar problem with this store not replacing the adapter free of charge to write to TIM COOK. His EMAIL is TCOOK@apple.com. If you were to ask me about a time when I received excellent customer service, my experience at the Apple Store would be at the tip of my tongue. I had been a Dell user my whole life, but when my last Dell broke down, I decided to switch to Apple. I didn't do a whole lot of research before walking into the Apple Store (which is very unlike me when I am making a big purchase). I just figured I couldn't go wrong with any kind of Mac, and they would help me pick out the one best for me. When I got to the store, the Sales Associate made the decision process extremely simple for me. He basically broke the decision into easy steps for me: Laptop or desktop? Air or Pro? 11 inch or 13 inch or 15 inch? Regular or upgraded? Applecare? He explained all the options in an easy to understand way, and did not try to upsell me things that I did not need. He was extremely patient with all my questions. He even gave me the "student" discount. The whole process took 30 minutes, and I walked out of the store with a MacBook Pro that day (no waiting for Dell to take 2 weeks to ship you your computer). The packaging was so sleek. It was beautiful. The computer was so easy to set up; no discs and drivers to install. I felt really great about my decision; no buyer's remorse at all! read more

Due to the new appointment policy, plan on your wait being more than an hour. If you ask about any other store times the manager will tell you he can't help with that and to go to the other store. I was being helped by an apple associate and another associate said she had spent enough time with me (less than 5 min) and that she needed to help the next person in the a cue. Everyone was super helpful and nice (we went with the Verizon variety) and it was a surprisingly painless process. I believe the whole process took just under an hour. NICE JOB, GUYS! This location also has tons of accessories (and cases) for the IPhones, so it's truly a one stop shop, conveniently located outside of the North and Clybourn red line stop. read more

They are just so gosh darn nice here. I've been to the genius bar twice and was treated with the compassion one expects from someone in the medical profession. Even the floor people who I don't think are officially geniuses yet were very organized, kind, and attentive. Everyone here probably deserves a raise. I think someone already stated that the geniuses are cute. No matter how sick you feel when your computer is sick, or how thrown off your schedule gets, you may want to comb your hair and put on some lip gloss or whatever you do to make yourself feel better. Not that they would treat you any differently if you were wearing your grey hoodie. I wish they had a parking lot, I would hang out there more often. read more

Confession: I drive by this store on the way to work and I always make fun of the people standing in a line out in front waiting for....something. I've witnessed people taking pictures of this store and I've made fun of them. I've made fun of the people that seem to just hang out in this store and I've exclaimed "I just don't get it." That was until I dropped my iPhone 3 and had to go in (without an appointment). Everyone knows how gorgeous the stores are, how awesome the products are, and how efficient the service is....that's a given. But I was especially happy with my service that day. My phone still worked but the face of it was shattered. I had insurance on it but never had a claim. The sales associate said that the cost to replace the face is usually $99 but since I never had a claim she'd do it for nothing. "Just give me a minute I'll be back." A few minutes later she appeared with my like new phone and a smile. "Sign here". Done and done. Thank you Apple, you have yet another fan. If I can ever save the money I'll be back for a Mac. Maybe then someone can explain to me why the hell those people were waiting in line at 5am.... read more

The store looks awesome. I would expect this from apple so I wouldn't count this a positive attribute. The service is horrible. People are not well trained. The genius bar met my appointment 47 minutes late, and the tech was clueless. I went on a wild goose chase searching for a displayport adaptor. Not for an available product, but the physical location of the adapter. Then asked for someone to "bring it up"... long story short. it never arrived and the whole process was repeated. Dear Apple, your store is pretty, but who cares if you don't train your employees. i'll make the drive to Old Orchard instead from now on. read more

I went Saturday for the grand opening expecting the worst. Although the store was incredibly busy I was able to walk through the store no problem and quickly grab a case. The ratio of Apple employees to patrons was favorable. Help was all over the place and check out was a breeze. Bonus points for the free t-shirt. AppleCare failed me, I feel like I've been robbed... What did I pay for? The in store staff where professional and provided great customer service with the limited options available. My complaint is in response to the repair service options. I am a self employed professional and need my laptop everyday. When my windows laptop broke I went out same day and purchased an M1 MacBook Pro. I wanted to take it in to the Apple store for a repair and they said even if they repair it in store it would be 5-7 days before I get my laptop back. That was the in store repair option, not even shipping it out! This is not an acceptable solution for a small business. They could not even offer me a loaner unless I paid a $500 yearly subscription. The only other solution was for me to buy another laptop and return it when the other one arrives (Their recommendation not mine). Again this is a horrible solution, if something goes wrong and the laptop gets damaged I can't return it and I'm out that money. Apple, you can do better than this. I switched to Apple from windows two months ago because your support is supposed to be the best and your computers are the most efficient. I have been completely let down and I waisted money on an AppleCare plan that is basically useless for my needs because the repair services are not efficient enough for emergency repairs with a quick turn around. The support staff couldn't even schedule it in a way that could limit my number of days without a computer to a more reasonable time frame, I don't see how this is professional. I once had to bring in my iPhone for a repair and it was finished within an hour. This is what inspired me to switch to Apple for my computer needs in the first place. I ended up leaving without getting my computer repaired and I'm still using the damaged computer for now.... Apple you fell off you no longer provide the support service that you promise. This store is absolutely terrible. I have been there three times and waited for at least two hours and there was never a satisfactory solution to it. My phone had the display go on it, and the only thing that they could say to me was to go without a phone for 5 days until they could get me a replacement. The manager Greg was very rude and in the end all he would say is "do you want to go with this option" and if the answer is no he would just simply walk away. And as if it wasn't bad enough, I saw him do it to another customer. In the end, make an appointment a month out, and if you go in make sure you don't have plans for the rest of the day - oh and save up! If there's something wrong with your phone that is their fault and not yours they'll make sure they figure out a way to pin it on you. read more

Beautiful space, lends a lot to the neighborhood. Short story short - needed to get something fixed was in and out in 20 minutes even though it was after 5 pm. There is free 20 minute parking across the street in the building that houses the book store. read more

I had a problem on my iPhone and tried to fix it many times (for many, many hours) with Apple and AT&T. After I received a new phone from Apple at an appt at 10:00, I went home and hooked it up with itunes. It was not working, again. I went back to the Apple store without an appt at noon. They were so busy, but Michael helped me RIGHT AWAY (I think he could see the desperation on my face)! He helped me restore the factory settings on my new phone and told me how to correctly sync my contacts & calendar, etc. I was so GRATEFUL! THANKS A MILLION! :) read more

I've never had to go into an Apple store and this was my first experience. I had a battery issue with my 2008 Macbook (it was bulging a few millimeters and the trackpad was wonky). I researched the issue online and then made an appointment online with the store for the next day. The genius bar wasn't too busy and I was checked in and seated pretty quickly. The woman who tended to my Mac couldn't have been more helpful, knowledgable and nice. I got a new battery and my issue was resolved promptly. My macbook/baby is working properly again. read more

I hate like all get out to leave this lousy review, so I'll try to leaven the good with the bad . . . When I first began using this location's Genius Bar it was terribly disorganized and appointment times seemingly meaningless. Additionally, I always felt like I was being treated as some sort of technology challenged idiot. In spite of being pretty savvy and clearly explaining the measures I had already taken to address my problems, we'd still have to waste time on basics I'd already tried and had failed. Then things radically improved in the store and I have received prompt, courteous and (for lack of a better word) cooperative service. In fact, things had improved so much that I was on the verge of giving a five star rating. And then . . . Brought my MacBook in for what turned out to be a hard drive that needed to be replaced. No biggie, since the unit was still under warranty, and I was surprised and (initially) pleased when I was told the repair would be 48 hours or less. Such a deal! And, in fact, my MacBook was ready in just a little over 24 hours. So far so good. Got home and everything seemed fine until I went to insert a CD into the Super Drive. Long story short, the drive refused to accept discs of any kind, so back to the Genius Bar. Trip #3 to the store. After inspecting the MacBook, the Apple Store Genius deduced that the Super Drive needed to be replaced. Coincidence? Well, no, he admitted. Perhaps something was knocked awry or some other unfortunate accident when the new hard drive was installed. Say what? But, again, under warranty, so no charge. 'Cept they didn't have the drive in stock. Say WHAT? Your basic Super Drive for your basic MacBook and they have to order it??? Well, at least he promised - and put in writing - that when the part came in they could replace it and get my MacBook back to me on the same day. In fact, he said, the repair should probably take less than an hour. The part comes in and . . . I'm given 48 hours to come in for the repair or they'll release the part. Say WHAT??? By now my patience is beginning to wear thin. I call the store and okay, okay, they'll hold it a few days more. But then . . . While initially all seemed fine (sans the Super Drive failure) with the new hard drive, over the course of the week it started operating slower, and slower . . . and sloooooooower . . . until the whole thing just froze up and refused to operate. Trip #4 to the store. The Genius looks at it and quickly deduces . . . oh, they didn't replace such-and-such a bracket when they installed the hard drive. Not to worry, the part is in stock, but . . . I'll need to leave my MacBook for 48 to 72 hours as they're backed up. No, I say - since you are having to replace the Super Drive which I was told could be done same day, perhaps even within an hour, let's just pop in that li'l ol' Super Drive and the "bracket" at the same time and get it back to me TODAY. Oh, no, he says - even if all we had to do was replace the Super Drive, it would be 48 to 72 hours - "We're really backed up." Oh, no, I say, I have it in WRITING that the MacBook could be repaired and restored to me same day. To which he replies, well, that's pretty much a worthless promise. Forty-eight to 72 hours - take it or leave it. Which means once repaired . . . Trip #5 to the store. And there you have why I give this Apple location two stars. read more
