Pam saved my work life. She is an angel, and I'm so grateful to her for helping me out. Here's my story... It was a Sunday night around 7pm, and I noticed my work computer was on 4%...with the charger plugged in. I wiggled and wiggled that charging cord, but no go. Time to get a new charger! I'm so lucky to live less than five minutes from the Apple store in NBK, so around 7:40 I ran to the mall before closing with the intention to pick up another charger. Ummm...when's the last time you were at the mall and stopped by Apple? Well, it looks a lot different now. There literally is no store and it's just a few walk up windows. It was pretty quiet with a couple of customers in line. The security guards mentioned that I would have had to order the cord online and place an order for pickup. Since it was pretty quiet, and I was desperate, I told them I wanted to speak with someone at the window and that I'd give it a whirl and see what happens. And...here's what happened. I walked right up to the window and Pam was there. I explained to her that I was going to miss a work deadline if I didn't get my computer charged. She explained that now you have to order ahead of time and place an order for pickup. I was prepared to order right from my phone, but it was still too late to order and I would have had to wait until the next day. I begged her. I mean I begged. And, like the angel she is, she got me a new charger on the spot, but she explained they don't really do that. I thanked her and told her I'd be writing this review, because she literally saved me. Pam, I hope you see this, because I made my work deadline thanks to you. You are an angel. Note: For the future, plan to call ahead and make an appointment for the genius bar or for anything else you might need to pick up. Apple means businesses. I dropped off my iPhone X for a battery replacement and when I got it back there was a big piece of metal sticking out of the top. It's not a good sign of the quality of this Apple store when neither the person performing the battery replacement nor the person who brought out the phone noticed this problem. They ended up swapping the phone they damaged with a refurbished one, which is not great since I don't know how the previous owner treated the phone (mine was pristine and had never been dropped). The most annoying part is none of the handful of Apple employees I dealt with during this ordeal apologized for wasting my time. I had to spend nearly three hours at the store and some more time at home restoring the software and settings onto the refurbished replacement. read more

This was an average to below average experience. One of their hosts was a bit rude as I was asking a question about the text notification I received from the store. The text was asking if I wanted to "reschedule my appointment" and that text came immediately after a text that said "we are almost ready for your appointment". So I merely asked is there a problem with my appointment because it's unusual to ask me to reschedule after you just texted me you are almost ready for me. He was rude and terse and said read the text well do you want to reschedule? I said no and unless you are canceling it we need to have another discussion. Stupid Apple and its stupid employees. My husband and I had 10 free minutes and decided to pop into the Apple Store. I just wanted to find out when I can upgrade my iPhone. 30 seconds later I find out I can upgrade in June. And what is staring at me with those luscious apps? The iPhone 5. How convenient. As I'm purring in one part of the store, hubby is now checking out the latest version of Apple TV. We had the original Apple TV and after six years it finally gave up the ghost. Not a bad run for an early version. Before I know it, I'm asking the staff a bazillion questions about how the streaming works and what if I don't have my photos in iCloud. And, get this, they answered all my questions and even found someone when I stumped them. Now I have TWO items on my Want List. And to top it all off, while they were showing me how I can access the other computers on my personal network, the coolest little game -- Tiny Wing -- appears. Foolishly I ask what it is. Not sure why it is so difficult to get a Genius bar appointment. I suppose we all know why - Apple wants everyone to call over the phone to their call center so they don't need to hire support people for their stores. Store opens at 10 am. Arrived at 9:40 am and there was already a line of 10 people waiting. The only reason they have two stars is because there was actually an Apple store representative with an iPad taking names of people in line. Then the process was slow and painful. You can see employees standing around chit chatting with one another while customers are waiting. We are not talking technical chit chat. Personal chit chat such as "where did you go out last night" type questions. I guess it is okay to keep people waiting in line for hours - it might generate false demand for their products and services. read more

We were looking to trade in iPhone X for iPhone 15 with $350 AT&T rebate regardless the condition of the phone. AT&T had none in stock, but they said we could go to this nearby Apple store, buy new phone outright, have the purchase connected to our AT&T account, and bring the old phones back to AT&T to get the $350 rebate. At Apple the first salesperson got started working with us, but then was taken away to run a seminar and replaced with a second. He worked with us for awhile, but then stated that he had to keep the old phone and couldn't give us the AT&T rebate. We asked to see the manager who said they could do the AT&T deal and give us the $350 rebate directly. The manager promptly handed us off to the fourth person we'd dealt with. He worked with us a bit, but when he found out the camera was damaged, he said they couldn't give us a rebate but that they'd have to keep the old phone. After having wasted 1.5 hours in the Apple store we realized no one in the store really knew what they were doing. We went back to AT&T and just ordered a new phone, and the damaged camera made no difference for the rebate. We love Apple products, but this store is a waste of time. read more

I made the HUGE MISTAKE of bringing my phone to their "genius bar" to replace the broken screen of an iPhone X. I left it there February 8th, they sent me a confirmation email saying "Estimated Pickup Time: Feb 14, 2020" I received a separate email from the Apple Repair Center with a link to check the status of the repair and a confirmation that they received the phone February 11th, since that day the status shows "Diagnosis in progress" (today is 02/25) I went to the store and nobody could tell me anything about my phone, they looked at each other like they had no clue about what is going on and they said they only knew the same thing I know when I check the link. Ridiculous!! I have called several times to the apple line and all I know is that they are diagnosing (the broken screen) and it can take until 11 business days. I am extremely frustrated and the only solution they offer is to keep waiting. What kind of shitty service is this? Wasted an hour and a half being told by Adam and then Alex (who, in a rude tone, told me they're not engineers, they're just support) my issue was not related to Apple, but was a cell phone carrier issue. Techs insisted the phone carrier was responsible for phone-related issues. Called my carrier from the store and went through many steps with the carrier over the phone. Still Apple Store insisted only was to resolve issue was to wipe everything off phone and reinstall awful IOS 15 update, which caused my issue in the first place. It was taking quite a while on the phone, so I decided to make an appointment to go back to Apple another day. In the meantime, the carrier walked me through all of my settings and figured out exactly which APPLE SETTING to change and fixed my issue. The Old Orchard location is more convenient for me (distance wise), but in the past - if I couldn't get an appointment there, the Northbrook store isn't that much further via the express way. Anyway - the customer service has gotten SO bad at Old Orchard that I vowed I wouldn't go there again, and realistically - why would I when Northbrook's team and customer service is A+. I cannot tell you how many times I've stopped in with a simple question and they're able to get me a straightforward answer in less than 5 minutes (and this has happened more than once). Barry, the manager is gem of a human. Eric, Scott, Ryan, Cameron and Sylvia are the one's I've gotten to know and they are outstanding, friendly and most importantly HELPFUL. Honestly, this is the best Apple Store in the Chicagoland area by far. read more

Exceedingly Poor Customer Service I arrived in distress after having dropped and irreparably damaged my iPhone 8 Plus. Via phone, Apple's Customer Care seemed unaware of T-Mobile's insurance plan, the top tier of which includes Apple Care. (I've actually used the insurance before, having had an iPhone replaced at an Apple store, no questions asked, for the $100 deductible.) No such luck at Apple Northbrook. The "Genius" attendant seemed way less than interested in helping me from his initial approach. However, I went ahead explaining my desire to replace my broken phone and my experience with using the insurance in the past. He was uninterested in investigating my situation, telling me that I didn't have Apple Care and that a replacement phone would cost $400, if they had one in stock, which they didn't. Fortunately for me, he did reveal (after I asked him for help in this regard) that a relatively nearby store did have the replacement phone I wanted. I must now contrast Apple Northbrook's lack of customer service with the stellar and caring service at Apple's Deer Park store. It was like night and day! Not only did 2 front of house associates assist me in solving the problem of Apple not recognizing my Apple Care coverage under my T-Mobile insurance plan, but the folks in the back office also took the time to get to a solution simply by reviewing my current billing statement online, etc. Not only that, but Apple Deer Park then took responsibility for what they viewed as Apple's "error" and the amount of time I spent waiting and handed me the replacement phone free of charge! No deductible!! I couldn't believe it. I was reminded today that for every uncaring person there is at least one other caring one. It ain't easy sometimes, but in order to find the good ones we have to make it past the others and keep moving forward. Taking the road a bit further west and out of the way was well worth it. They don't take the time to look into the issue or even research what has been done to come up with a solution to the problem. I had an appointment for iPhone to be looked at. Had already explained my problem with AppleCare line and steps that were necessary for getting it fixed or replaced. Upon arriving ahead ten minutes I checked in. I waited and could over hear apple heads say,"He's here early but his appointment is in ten minutes." I bought a new MacBook Air at the Northbrook Court Apple Store. The folks in the store were friendly and efficient. I left my old MacBook Air with them so they could move my data over. They lost everything that wasn't backed up, which was 5 - 6 months of data. (My bad for not backing it up recently, but the fact that the external hard drive wasn't backing up anymore is why I decided to buy the new computer!) They returned my computer to me without telling me they crashed my old computer. No one said a word that it was anything other than normal when I picked up the new & old computers. When I got it home, the old computer (which worked fine the day I dropped it off) had a black background with a white prohibited sign on it. The manager at the store was "sorry, but it wasn't their fault, they did everything by the books." I believe it to be untrue that my computer was unreadable when they got it. It worked well for me the very day that I dropped it off. I knew all of my data might not migrate from one computer to the next, but I fully expected to be able to USE my old computer to email myself documents and photos that weren't transferred. No compensation from the store. No accountability. A lukewarm apology from an unsympathetic manager didn't make me feel any better. Apple support's senior advisors were very helpful, and invested a lot of time & effort, though my data was never recovered. I will never go back to that store. read more

I happen to come to pick up my online order for my iPad the day the iPhone 11 was releasing which I had no clue about. There was a super long line of people waiting outside the door. I went up to one of the Apple workers and told them I was here to pick up an online order for an iPad. He said it would be a 15-20 minute wait just to pick up an online order that was already paid for. Mind you, I only have a 30 minute lunch break and I thought I would be in and out without any problems. I was severely wrong. I told him I would have to come back and I started walking to my car. I realized that I get to leave work early that day and I wanted to drive straight home not come here after work, so I walked back a 2nd time and the guy said it was a 30-40 minute wait. So the wait increased within 5 minutes. What I was so pissed about was that they should have had a separate line for people who were not picking up an iPhone so that service was quick and easy but they didn't. Well, my visit to this store this evening made me realize it's time to find a new phone. I was in there to see what the problem was with my AirPods(note:months back I had problems with the Apple Watch which I just realized is a garbage product). They never worked right. All sorts of problems. I was told it was caused by corrosion. This was caused by sweat. This voided the warranty on them. So, I was not happy as I was told these are great for the gym. The workers did their best to try and help but there is not much they could do. Called over the manager who seemed annoyed and not helpful. In his defense, it was past his bedtime. In the end, they make poor products. Their customer service is subpar as demonstrated by the manager this evening not caring that I was going to stop using Apple products all together after being a loyal customer for 10 years. They have so many sheep out there - blindly buying apples inferior products(AirPods and watch - I will soon see about the phone.), they don't care about this customer. I won't be the last. read more

I would give this store -2 stars if possible. We came here with a brand new iPhone 11 Pro Max (so about $1600 worth of phone) and bought Apple Care coverage, and we were told to wait TWO HOURS to talk to a tech. When we returned two hours later we were told to come back in another 25 minutes... When we finally got to the help table, I felt more like an inconvenience than a welcome customer who spends thousands of dollars on Apple products every year. About half way through helping us, the tech actually started helping another person so we became an afterthought and eventually we left there with the main problem still unaddressed. Right as I got to the table I wanted to charge one of my phones as the battery was getting low and another rather grumpy tech kept searching through a drawer for a charger only to finally give up and place my phone on one of their display chargers such that I couldn't actually use it while waiting. Again, I didn't feel like a valued customer but more like a very inconvenient addition to the tech's day. I wrote to the company through their online contact form but nearly a day later I've yet to hear back even if it's just something as simple as "sorry our store was so terrible, here's what we're doing to fix that, and here's a free song on iTunes" or something While checking in I asked the guy at the entrance way why it's taking them over two hours to get people in. Basically he told me that they don't have the budget to hire enough workers, and even if they did, it couldn't be done... this is the exact opposite of customer service especially for one of the wealthiest corporation on the planet. While the phones and tablets etc are currently fairly good for the main purposes intended, I don't plan on ever going back to an Apple store. If whatever I need help with can't be fixed on my own or with minimal help from someone else, I will likely switch to a cheaper brand that is easily replaced when things just stop working the way they were supposed to. I'm extremely disappointed in Apple as a company overall despite how well their stock is doing right now. read more

This is a quick story about how Jasmine saved my butt. So, over the Christmas break I had to send in my laptop to fix an expanded battery. I was told that it would be back by Sunday the 27th, but when I called on Monday, it hadn't reached the repair center yet. For context, this is really bad, because I don't live in Northbrook anymore, and am leaving on Friday. However, after speaking with Jasmine over the phone, she said she'd do what she can to speed up the process. Lo and behold, I was able to pick it up today. It's such a relief to have it in my hands again, especially since I need the laptop for work, and I have Jasmine to thank. Other than that, the service was still good! Overall, I've had more favourable than unfavourable experiences at this location. I exchanged a MacBook Pro TWICE [within the return window] first for a manufacturer flaw and then, to upgrade to the TouchBar model. Both times, the employees were exceptionally friendly with me and reassured me that it was okay to exchange the device if I wasn't happy with it. My most recent trip was not ideal- the employee was unable to not only find the purchase via my AppleId [first time, ever], she was incredibly incredulous that a Lighting Cord purchased two months prior has already broke- Apple Warranty on this product stipulates the item will be replaced up to one year of purchase, if bought via Apple- and kept asking if the cord was really only two months old [it was still BRIGHT WHITE without any visible kinks]. Whilst I too was shocked the cord stopped working so soon after purchase, the woman's attitude was SO UNLIKE any other employee I've been assisted by in the past at this store and, she had literally no clue about the mobile POS she was using and I had to direct her at the end. As the company strongly prefers digital receipts, I was a bit perplexed as to her frustration I did not have the paper receipt. Something to note, from an Ops standpoint: it is VERY unclear of whom to speak with upon entering the store regarding purchases/Genius Bar Appointments as they no longer have a traditional cash wrap. It would be helpful for said employee acting as the 'check in' lead to either be in a designated area or, wear some form of identifier for customers. read more

I came into the store to purchase a computer. They told me that I need to schedule a time to meet with someone online. I only had a few questions regarding buying a computer, but they insisted that nobody can help me today and that the earliest was tomorrow. The host mentioned that I can purchase the computer online. So I did. however, because there was nobody to talk to regarding the computer, I accidentally purchased a computer with the wrong port primarily because there was no customer service in the store. 2 weeks later, I returned to the store with my new computer that was shipped to understand why I received a computer without the ports that I ordered. They explained that it was a miscommunication on my part in not understanding the various ports that are available. I didn't realize that the 3 and 3.0 ports are not the same thing. I explained to them the entire situation about purchasing this computer and the frustrations that I encountered along the way. The manager just said that you can return the computer or purchase the $20 conversion cable. Honestly, that's what frustrated me the most! Of course, I needed the computer. After spending $2,300, I would think that Apple would have the decency to offer a cable as a small gesture for being a loyal customer for over 20 years! This cavalier manager could've cared less. In the end she said, " We treat everyone equally". That's correct, equally with No Respect. And definitely no compassion for their loyal customers! This manager has a lot to learn about customer service. This experience was very disappointing. Unfortunately, I don't think that Apple really cares about their customers.
