We are greeted as we walk in. Our first impression is that the place has a clean, friendly atmosphere. It is well lit and has large windows giving it an open airy feel. Our booth was a little worn but very clean and comfortable. It was large enough to sit comfortably without getting table jammed and there was plenty of leg room. 24 hr breakfast, lunch and dinner, this is sturdy Truck Stop food in a pleasant setting. The menu was good for vegetarians as well. I had the patty melt and loaded tater tots. To be honest, I was surprised by the portions because I thought it looked small at first, but it must have been the plating because I left stuffed. The patty melt was a perfect combination with the grilled onions and toasted rye. The loaded tater tots? Holy cow, I had no idea they could be so crispy. They came drizzled with a melted cheddar and a dollop of ranch on top. An absolutely satisfying crunch and flavor. We ate at the Apple Peddler almost every day, six years ago, when we were acquiring our home in Sutherlin. At that time the coffee was delicious and the food was good. That was six years ago. Recently, we had occasion to stop back for a late breakfast. I thought the coffee had been setting for a long time. Our server gave me a freshly brewed cup, and it was terrible too. The food was eatable but very poor quality. We were told that the restraints had been acquired by a group in California and they had dictated the brand of cheap coffee and they selected the lowest possible quality ingredients. Of course, the prices went up. Watching the "bottom line" in the food business can either generate more business or drive you under. I can't find anybody in Sutherlin that will eat there anymore. We were out at Cooper Creek Reservoir and stopped in the Apple Peddler Restaurant for lunch. We ordered a hot meatloaf sandwich and hot roast beef sandwich. They came with mashed potatoes and a vegetable or coleslaw. The hot roast beef had a good flavor only very thin slices of meat. The coleslaw was ok but had a lot of mayonnaise. The meatloaf had a ketchup flavor and the meat was mushy from extra filler. The veggie was corn and was watery. Service was good. The ambiance is nice and country. I would definitely come back and try something else. Something to note is they have a charge for using a credit card that we didn't know until after filling out the last page of the form (after adding tip, etc) on the credit card machine. The food is pleasing to the palette. The individuals that embrace the Apple Peddlers' dining areas range from the well equipped younger diners to the grand elders around the area. Right off the I-5, make it a convenient Home cooked feel for the weary traveler seeking a moment to decompress. The stress of long-distance travel makes it extremely easy to melt in the seat. However, the seats are a little stiff. Comfortable seating knocks this otherwise simply yet homie feel from an almost undisputed 5 star rating to simply 4 stars. This evening, after agate hunting on the North Umpqua River, I stopped in for a warm bowl of soup. On my way home from Seattle, I stopped at Sutherlin, OR, and found Apple Peddler Restaurant. This is a local chain found in Oregon. I really liked the decor, like an old time diner of the 50s and 60s. The restaurant was very well kept and clean, except for some of the booths, which needed reupholstery. I enjoyed dinner and breakfast the following day. Moving on, I found the service to be very good, despite it appearing to be understaffed. Both servers were very friendly and worked together as a team. Even the chef was helping out, making sure the orders were accurate. Now for the food: ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING! I could not believe how perfectly cooked everything was. Here is a tip: If it is some type of apple dessert or main dish, no worries, it's going to be great. I'll be honest, I wasn't completely sure about this place based on the reviews, but as the saying goes "don't knock it till you try it." The service is a bit slower than your average restaurant, but that's just the norm in a small town. However, the people here are nice and friendly. First time in Sutherlin and we were looking for a "different" place to eat. We found a great one at this restaurant. To begin with the decor is that of a diner but actually quite nice. We were seated right away and the menu offered lots of great options. The best part of the whole diner was our waitress. I wish we had her name to give her kudos. She provided about the best service I had ever seen in a restaurant. What we asked she indicated she was always happy to do. The food was really good too except they didn't have baked potatoes that particular day and the mashed potatoes were instant. However, I still gave this place a 5* because the food we got was good and the server spectacular. Service was pretty speedy. Apple Peddler is a great family restaurant that is always welcoming with decent food. I have not gone to a restaurant in over 30 years for Thanksgiving & after all the raves about Apple Peddler...this year when my family needed to go to a restaurant to be able to eat together, I was very dissapointed. The service....did not k ow if we check in for the reservation or wait...no employee was asking nor making it possible to get to the hostess desk with too many people crowding in..a chair at end of table was so up against the wall to the point is had to be turned sideways for anyone to sit in it... the waitress seemed bothered by our questions and requests....I know they worked long and hard... but being pissy don't get ya all the tip you have otherwise received! The food. stuffing was simply gross and inedible, apples hard, the rest mushy, and the seasoning had to much something not good.. The potatoes clearly could have been better for instant, maybe to much water in them? Gravy a little lumpy and would have been nice to know it covered most of plate instead of on the side... the turkey was ok...and not sure if I got turkey from the same bird..some was great some dry.. I learned asking for salad dressing on the side means dry salad... The pie..... as dissapointing as the stuffing..... the only choice with the holiday special was pumpkin pie. It was just a "sliver" not a slice... and tasted like an over sweetened generic frozen type of pie with a tasteless whipped topping. I do want to thank Apple Peddler for being open so many families like mine had some where to meet to have time together. I will eat there again..but only because I know they are usually good... if I ever have to do a holiday at a restaurant in future .... I ordered two eggs over medium, hash browns, bacon and sausage, and pancakes. This place takes forever to have your order taken and forever to have your food brought to your table. Now the food - when the food was finally brought to our table, it was between warm and cool, my eggs were overcooked, sausage was burnt, hash browns and pancakes tasted like their griddle was never cleaned, it was a complete disaster. Now my wife and I were the only interracial couple in this all white establishment so my feelings are that knowing that my food would still be served in such conditions, I strongly believe that we were not welcome here at all. I really enjoyed this restaurant. It has a nice diner feel without going too far. The food is very tasty, pretty standard diner fair. The staff is medium. They are nice, friendly, helpful, and reasonable fast and attentive. The only real complaints I had was that my burger came with a raw onion instead of cooked, which would have been okay except that the onion was huge, so it was a little overwhelming, and overpowering. And the fries were all stiff, which some people prefer but it isn't my thing. Otherwise though, it was great for a stop. And the best thing was the coffee! I really enjoyed the coffee here. This is an amazing, wonderful spot to stop if you're driving to Portland or even Washington from California because it's right off the I-5 and the community is very nice and friendly. The staff teaches you like family and everything. My first time coming here was with my late husband in 2013 he took me here while we were on our way to California to see his family. It was a delightful place and the food was amazing and the best part was the pies they were so amazing. As of today the food is still amazing, fresh, and the pies are always fresh and everything. If you're in the area you must stop by and try this place and talk to the staff you will definitely enjoy it and love it. read more

Lesson learned when you ignore the Yelpers. My wife, mother in law, and sister in law stopped at this restaurant on their way back from Seattle. Mainly because the mom liked the name. I texted her the Yelp reviews, which wasn't good at all, and they decided to make their own opinions. My mother in law loves this place and each visit we do have yo eat there at least once. This past Christmas they were offering a Prime Rib special so we decided to entertain her and go for the meal. If you like bland food and canned veggies, and paying extra for using a card, this is your place. We ordered a NY steak, a steak and teriyaki chicken combo, and another teriyaki chicken dinner. The kids ate the chewy chicken, and happily ate the instant mashed potatoes smothered in packet gravy. I was not impressed that my "medium rare" steak was also smothered in a combination of teriyaki sauce and packet gravy. This was probably an attempt to hide the fact that it was dry and overcooked, and had no flavor or seasoning. I personally dont like much salt, but the meat itself lacked flavor! It was far from medium rare and still had gristle stuck to it so I couldnt eat it all. My husband didnt even finish his "New York Steak" It was also ordered medium rare, but his was nearly grey! Again, the meat itself had no flavor, and zero seasoning. He ordered a side of baked potato, which was also flavorless and had the watery texture of being boiled. On the menu, it states that each dinner comes with steaming veggies. I hadnt noticed exactly how it was worded and fully expected steamed vegetables! Instead we got to bring home a side of canned peas that nobody touched. The side salad was a handful of brown iceburg lettuce, one slice each of cucumber, carrot and beet. I will say the 2 gals working there were very friendly and attentive. Since we ordered to go, the peas were in their own container (thank goodness) and the bottom of the styrofoam was lined with tin foil. The rolls were thoughtfully placed in another styrofoam with the cutlery, butter and sour cream. Hence an extra star for service. But sorry, our dinner was not worth near what we paid. read more

This place is a little Gem along the I-5 freeway. It's sort of like Denny's type diner. Don't let that description confuse you though. This place is far better than Denny's. The pork chops were great. Usually I feel I'm getting more fat than pork. But here they were trimmed just right. The flavors were great. Worst food I've had in years! The salad was gross iceberg mess. The salmon dinner i had was $17 and it was a sliver of decent tasting fish, yet the sides were disgusting. My chiliburger was okay, with ( I think) canned chili beans) though the onions were not well cut; the fries were firm with good taste, but a bit too much salt. Too little salt is always best because there is always a salt shaker on the table. However, it seems the management is not up to parr here: 1. Although the place had lists of empty seats, the hostess had only one menu for us. 2. I noticed another couple must of gotten tired of waiting for their check and went to the cashier to request it. 3. Correct me if I'm wrong, but im about 99% sure everything was either from the freezer or a can. The calm chowder soup (soup of the day) was really bland and had the texture of glue while the coconut cream pie tasted extremely similar to the kind you can purchase at WinCo. Furthermore, the "breaded chicken breast" were literally just frozen chicken fingers served with a side of freezer fries and soggy canned green beans. Not worth the money at all. We should have known given the fact that most of the customers were families with young children and old people. read more

Went out for dinner at the Apple Peddler. We entered we noticed approx 10 customers. Our server sat us at a booth with no silverware. She took our order and left after 1/2 hr she returned saying the cook had worked all day and had taken a break. Pros: large plates Good service The veg was fresh and clean, carrots, cucs, toms etc. In and out in 30 mins Beets Cons: The diced ham they use is very-very salty. Id reconsider using that brand. If the eggs still smell awful after cooking process? Something is wrong. They do not make their dressing so keep it on the side. We are new to the area and popped in here for lunch over the weekend. My mom and I both ordered the patty melt with grilled onions and my daughter had the kids Mac n cheese. We were happy with our food, the fries and onion rings were our sides and they were hot and satisfying. The rye bread on the sandwiches tasted fresh and the cheese was melted nicely. It reminded me of a Dennys type restaurant but with a little personal 50s flare. They had prize machines in the front and my mom got my daughter a little bouncy ball with a smiling pizza face on it for my daughter. She said she loved those machines when she was a kid and my daughter sure loved the experience too. We came at a very busy time unfortunately and were seated in an area where it was hard to notice us. We had to do some yelping (no pun intended) for service here and there but I think it was just because of our timing and position in the restaurant. The best hashbrowns I have ever tasted...besides home that is... the help is friendly for the most part. So far I have actually got what I ordered the way I ordered it...that is novel...lol..Have taken friends and family there and they always like it. Should be a little more forgiving if you don't want to sit where they want you to sit..but I don't want to be by that noisy waitress station...or stuck in a corner booth when others are available.
