I discovered Lamplighter in Oakland several years ago when visiting my mother in Sutherlin The first time was pre-remodeling. Dark, old 150 year old bar. Loved it Best part is they served grilled cheese sandwiches an pea soup, just like my mom used to make. (I'm 70) .they sold it and the new owners really spruced it up, and the menus, however, no pea soup but fantastic clam chowder and wonderful tomato soup. Great bar, fantastic service, wonderful music. I just came down due to my mother passing, but I still ate there 9 times in 3 weeks. Number one for comfort food. The elk burger is juicy, sweet potato fries, fish tacos were wonderful!! What ever u do, do not miss going next door to the most wonderful antique store you will ever visit. It's more like walking into Nordstroms than a dingy antique store. The chef is doing a GREAT job. Everything I've seen come out of the kitchen looks amazing. I had the pork belly salad and WOW - best I've ever had!! The sauce was delish and salad dressing was perfect. My husband had the clam chowder with bacon (optional, I think). I had to grab his spoon and taste it - another WOW - buttery and creamy with plenty of clams. I didn't dip into our friends' plates, but they both looked good. I did want a dark draft beer (brown, red or porter) but they are more into IPAs which I can't get past my nose. Food was great. Had steak with all the fixings. Service was great. Bourbon selection was great. One man band had everyone singing. Great atmosphere for a dive bar. A guy had a dog with him at the bar. Could not have been a better place after a long day on the road. Everyone was super friendly. Always tip the band, even if it is one guy. read more

Friendly welcoming people and good food. I had their hot chicken sandwich which had cajun seasoning and was very tasty, I also did a cup of the tomato bisque soup which I though was some of the best that I have ever had and would do that again next time I am there. My wife had the fish taco's they came three to a order, the fish was very tasty, the Aoli sauce had a hint of heat to it which went great with the slaw and the slightly toasted corn tortilla's. During our 3 day trip across Oregon we stopped at Oakland ("historic district" sign appealed to us to risk a stop) looking for lunch and were surprised how good it was, it was our best impromtu meal during the trip by a wide margin. I really wanted to love this place. Oakland is a beautiful little town. The waitress we had on this day was out of it. Not sure if it was her first day or first time alone. She was very all over the place and didn't seem to know what she was doing. Lucky for us the gal sitting near us worked there but it was her day off. She brought us our food as we both had been waiting an hour. I will give it another chance sometime due to the other girl that worked there but was on her day off. She never spoke a bad word about her struggling coworker and jumped in to help. read more

Basically, the waiter was attentive and the food was good! We started with nachos. They were pretty good and big enough to share between two people. I had a mushroom burger. Very good! Nice chunks of mushrooms, with Swiss cheese on Brioche bun. Wife had the Kickin' Chicken sandwich. Also very good, and not very spicy, just good flavor. She had onion rings. Onion rings are her thing and she said they were good. Draft beer was good, not a huge selection but enough. They had the usual domestics plus a couple of good IPA's and Widmer Hef. If I want to be ignored, I can save money and just sit in my own kitchen and wait for service no cost. To much attitude and incorrect orders you should feel privileged to be in their presence though. A great place on Sundays if you're a Seahawks fan! A very welcoming crowd & the staff (Doug in particular) is an attentive & friendly server. They have. a raffle of Hawk gear, tickets are given with each drink purchased. They also give out free vodka/blue curaçao shots with every Hawk TD. No worries for other NFL team fans. If your team is playing & the game is televised, they are willing to to put it on one of their Television. But...,know this Seahawks rule here. read more

Went to the Lamplighter Cafe twice while we were visiting family in Oakland. The first day we just got drinks. The fresh strawberry margarita was perfect; not sweet, and had fresh strawberries muddled throughout. Good tap list with something for everyone. The bartender was very friendly and efficient and we all wanted to go back the next day for dinner. Amazing dinner experience the next day. The food was excellent. I had the blackened chicken sandwich, which had great flavor and the tater tots were perfectly crispy. Our group also had a veggie burger and the bacon cheeseburger, both so tasty. The waitress was absolutely excellent. Probably the best service I have ever had. She thought of everything; so friendly and just on top of it. Everyone was so friendly. If your looking for a local bar with pool table and loud music, this is your place. We tried this place for the first time and won't be coming back. Their food dinner menu was ok for "bar food" and was served fast! Not a big selection on their menu. They do have slot machines and a atm so you can play. Plus two TVs with games on. we stopped in during a road trip with our 1 year old - despite being the only people seated in the restaurant section, we had great service from the guy manning the bar and restaurant. Our baby needed some wiggle room and was able to walk and crawl around the empty seating area which we were so grateful for! The food was hot and delicious, the drinks are made to perfection and the service was wonderful. A man who I assume to be the owner walked thru while we were preparing to leave, greeted us warmly and made sure to ask about our experience - it's refreshing to see someone take pride in their work like that. First off, the pictures posted on line are fake. The old bait and switch. . The food was processed garbage from Costco thrown together and re cooked horribly. The staff was friendly but frazzled to the point of thinking there was drug use involved. I'm not sure how anyone could mess up coffee but at the Lamplighter you most certainly can. Also it was freezing cold, no heat whatsoever, like eating outside. Run don't walk from this place. If I could give it zero stars I would. read more

We decided to try lunch at Lamplighter Cafe & Lounge today, we moved to Sutherlin during the pandemic and have not been out much. There were so many wonderful sounding appetizers and lunch entrees on the menu it was hard to choose. My fish tacos were delish I couldn't have asked for more. We learned from Doug our server that they hand bread the cod. The tacos were filled with cod, cabbage slaw, sriracha mayo on a warm tortilla with a fried jalapeño on the side. The hubbs had a bacon burger on a brioche bun and onion rings, he said it flavorful and the rings were not greasy. Doug brought us the brunch menu, they offer everything from a fruit smoothie to steak and eggs. Brunch is served Saturday & Sunday from 8 am- 2 pm. Who wouldn't want bottomless mimosas for $12? This isn't the review I wished to write. I really wanted to give a boost to a local business. Really bad. New Menu and revamp is like 4 items including a grilled cheese sandwich. Kitchen is filthy. Staff is great and friendly no problem there. POS is updated and you can do mobile pay. But... Food is.. Jalapeño poppers.. Pre-made. Under cooked raw crunchy peppers not heated through. I don't want to get into the burger or salad because being negative makes me feel bad. New bar back looks nice! Get someone to clean up the kitchen and a real chef. read more

The Lamplighters is a tavern- the kind of place that houses Video Lottery machines. The food was OK. Then the last time we went in our friend ordered hash browns. They were so over cooked, they had the texture of dust on the inside. The has browns were not just badly over-cooked, they were inedible. So, our friend had to point this out because she needed something to eat. The bartender later returned with hash browns, that were still frozen in the middle. We used to like the potato skins, BUT on Monday Night 12/4/2018 we order some to go. When we got home there were just 2 small potato skins with no sour cream, and that was it- just a smallish potato cut in half with a little stuff on it. This was the last straw for us. This is not a restaurant. The food cooked in any cleanish gas station would be better. As long as there are not flies buzzing around the gas station, I imagine the food would usually be better- at least a bit less burn or frozen than the Lamplighter. But again, the big advantage the Lamplighter has over a random gas station is video lottery. read more

Wonderful place to eat and drink. They have a nice selection to choose from, with great soups to burgers the size of your head. My favorite is their Fried Avocado. It is absolutely delicious and creamy. Their cocktails are very substantial and not watered down like most places. This is a great place for a meal and a must stop off I-5 when I'm in Oregon. read more
