There's nothing like entering a store and just feeling happy -- because everyone else is happy and you're happy because you're surrounded by pretty things that you can touch and play with... As someone who is always tempted to get a Macbook (but currently lacks the funding -- *shakes fist at rent checks and bills*), it is always nice to stop by the Apple store and just touch the Macbooks, move around the mouse and whisper sweet nothings to them. Oh one day Macbook, you shall be mine! This store was great because it was two levels and filled with all the goodies you would find online. There was also a lecture hall (is that what it is?) on the 2nd floor. A little crowded for my taste (especially since I went on a Saturday), but there's plenty of space to move around and plenty of products on display that you can always find something to look at/do. Always packed from first to second store. Although they didn't have what I needed at the time they did suggest other places where I can purchase an accessory for an iPad2. I ended up walking around and purchased a car charger that can charge both an iPhone and iPad2 (works for all iPhone generations, iPad generation and a few iPods). Hope it works! If ur in soho and need to sit while your group looks around n shop come here. 2nd floor has a few rows of seats which is for those free seminars.People waiting for genius bar sit here as well...AC, free wi-fi, friendly service... The people here are some of the best trained staff I've ever encountered at any Apple Store. The staff is friendly, organized, on time and knows their stuff. Every time I've come in here for the Genius Bar they're quick to identify the problem, fix it, and get me out. When I had some trouble with my MacBook Pro the man who was helping me took a lot of time helping me understand exactly what needed to be done and how to prevent this problem from happening again. The staff here really seems passionate about Apple products and customer care. These staff members should be sent to other locations to train the staff there. If only every Apple Store was like this! I came into this Apple store because I needed assistance with my Ipod Video. It's an ancient device however the staff member at the Genius Bar was able to get the Ipod to power on. It's sad in a way because she told me I need to search for other options as it is a vintage item. If you are looking for repair, please be aware that there is most likely a 45 min wait. You first check in on the left hand side of the apple store by the entrance to enlist your name, your product and provide your telephone number. Following a 45 minute wait, you are prompted 3 texts during that time. The first text advises that you've signed up and are looking for assistance. The second text is to advise you that you'll be expected in 15 mins and the last text is to advise you to check in upstairs to the left at the Genius Bar. Once at the Bar, you're assigned to a table and an associate will call your name and come to you to assist you with the product. Overall the staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. The only thing I didn't like was the wait but I did like their text notifications. read more

Had a really awful experience at this particular Apple store. My boyfriend has an iPhone case that is falling apart and he has never dropped it. I recently had a similar issue and took it to a different Apple store where they took responsibility and replaced it. I assumed they would do the same at this location. Instead I walked up to someone working there and asked if he was available and he replied "only on Tuesday" in a very straight face. It was Saturday so I was a little confused. I then told him my issue and he replied that my boyfriend is a liar and he had dropped his phone on several occasions and they would not even look at his case. We are die hard Apple fans with most of the items the sell, but this type of service really makes me question their commitment to their customers. read more

Tonight was my 1st time in the SoHo Apple Store. It's was very very busy. From the moment I walked in the door, and ascended the stairs to go to the Genius Bar, I saw 3 interactions where customers were being so rude to the Apple staff. I mean nasty hateful. The customers were just terrible, bordering on verbally abusive. In each instance, the Apple staff was courteous and professional. But not fake, condescending or dismissive. They spoke so gently and purposefully I was TRULY amazed. It was VERY impressive. I wanted to commend them on an excellent job in training and selecting the right personalities. With minimal & last minute planning, I was able to take a one-to-one class, have my laptop repaired, purchase the right memory & listen to a class on GarageBand (an application that I'd never realized was so good) in one day ~ only leaving the store to have lunch in a nice nearby cafe! So, I've never been to the Apple store before for myself at least. I went with a friend and the people there were moderately nice. It was Connecticut though so it was a different nice. However I went to the soho store with NO expectations. I had a laptop that needed fixing. My sister came with me as she had the same problem with HER laptop. So we walk in and I check in and then this nice man named David comes up. My sister had just come from Starbucks with a tea for me. However she didn't bring me sugar or anything to stir my tea with. David asks me what's wrong noticing my distress. I tell him. He GOES and gets me sugar AND something to stir my tea with including a fork if the wooden spoon didn't work. Already he's exceeded all levels of customer service. Then we go to looking at my laptop. My background is a picture of my twin sister and I who is with me. Most men specifically (sorry guys :/) can not tell us apart. DAVID however after 10 minutes of knowing me can tell us apart and totally guesses correctly who is who in the picture. Bonus points truly. It was an amazing experience and hopefully David doesn't get in trouble for getting me the things for tea. But he rocks and deserves a badge of honor. Trust him with my life. A few years back I was a really lucky wife when I received a MacBook Air for Christmas. I had only mentioned it to my husband once that I liked it but I guess he was listening. On Christmas morning I was ridiculously surprised when I saw it under the tree. Being a new Mac user I decided to sign up for the one-to-one training that Apple offers for a nominal fee. My weekly sessions with my genius at the SoHo store were delightful. Over a years time I learned how to use all the Mac Programs like iPhoto, iChat, Garage Band, iTunes and iDVD. If you own or plan on owning an Apple product I would recommend you visit the SoHo store. This store is like the Apples learning lab. They not only offer the one-to-one training but they also have a theater where you can take part in scheduled training sessions while sitting in stadium style seating. I absolutely love the theater! You can go online to see what trainings they are offering on any given day and when you get there all you need to do is find a seat and watch these geniuses at work. Did I mention these training sessions are free??? Overall this apple store is great for those that are looking to learn something new from someone that knows A LOT! read more

Terrible experience in this store. Some of the them just refused to help and answer my question because my ethnicity when I asked them nicely. Took me a hour to buy the item I ask for because they just turned to help other people. Buy one guy answer every question I asked, which is nice, but with emotionless face. Made me feel I was not welcomed. One motherfucker just refuse to help was fucking ruin my experience. I know he make it sounds like he was joking, but I am not fucking go there and joke with him. When I need service just give it to me, I spend dollars there is not to see his fucking cocky eyes. Not recommend to phone who really consider getting a new items there, the store at 59st is a better choice for you. People are nicer and more professional. I want to thank the Apple Store, Soho, for providing me the Internet I need to leave this extremely negative review. I am currently sitting at brown table near the Genius Bar after being told one of those nice but confused people in blue shirts would be "right with me." I've now spent a total of two hours, over four separate visits, waiting for someone in a blue shirt. At the same time, there are at least five of them milling around at the bottom of the stairs and several chatting behind the Genius Bar. Surely this is a far cry from the well-oiled machine that Steve Jobs envisioned when he began his campaign to have these stores littered across the country everywhere "cool." Every interaction I have had here has been an exercise in cluelessness, incompetence, and damage control. I was told three different things on three separate occasions, I've come back twice based on misinformation, and everyone is constantly going back to "check with the manager." Look, Apple Store SoHo, I get it. Technology is complicated. But own up to it. You are failing to provide customers with the kind of service you imagine yourself, and advertise yourself, to be providing. Better be honest and rename yourself Apple Store Sh*tShow. read more

I've been here numerous times. The location and building itself could not get better. When purchasing my laptop here I received attentive service that was professional and helpful. However, that all ends once you purchase your product. I have made 2-3 appointments at this Genius Bar. The first time they were looking at the iPhone to see what an issue was and broke it. This was handled appropriately and I was given a new phone free of charge. The second time was again for an iPhone issue. The employee at almost became belligerent with me, telling me it was not Apples fault and it was solely mine. Yesterday was the ic by on the cake and I will no longer return to this store. I had, once again, another appointment for my iPhone for a battery issue. I checked in at 5:00pm and waited, and waited, and waited. After thirty minutes I asked a man how much longer it would be. He looked up my name and said I had not been checked in, but to not worry because he would be right back. Another twenty minutes passed and I asked a different employee this time and she said to hold on a minute. After I finally asked a third individual who seemed to be the manager/coordinator of the Genius Bar he apologized and said someone would be right with me. I finally left after over an hour of waiting with no service or new appointment. Save yourself the time and effort and go elsewhere. read more

I know there are many reviews for Apple stores, but I just wanted to put my opinion. I've always went to the on 58th street, and I went to this one on Prince street a few days ago. Event though all stores are kind of the same, and follow the same policies, I think this one is a little better. Why? I could be the experience I had which was very positive. The technician I talked to at the Genius Bar was AMAZING, very professional and informative. I took my mac book pro because the operating system was not starting. I had a couple of friends who know more than me about computers who checked it and could not solve it. The technician could enter into the system to check the status. Fortunately the computer itself is fine, just the software was failing. I dont give better rating because sometimes Apple Stores and very crowded and overwhelming, and sometimes you have to wait. In fact this time I did have to wait a lot, but the experience is positive because of the staff, and the particular good experience I had. I wish the can speed up the process somehow but overall I'm a happy apple user, and have no plans to change. read more

I have been to this Apple Store many times and have given it multiple chances for redemption but to no avail, this store, and it employees, keep showing me how pretentious and inept they are. Each time I'm there I wait for hours for help. They don't know what they are doing and frequently pass me off to other employees with even less knowledge. It seems like they really don't care and merely amused by me and my problems. I've had it with Apple products! and with this particular store. Most recently when I was there I was " helped" by Justin who was completely unhelpful and condescending. The manager refused to confirm if they had a battery in stock or not, told me first come first served, and that they could not guarantee that when I show up they'll have a battery available for me. the beginning of september, my one year old, little piece of shit nano stopped working. as in, the screen went black and wouldn't turn on again ... no matter how many times i pushed down on the menu and "-" buttons and smacked it against my thigh. dammit, i didn't even get a sad MAC face to warn me. seeing as how i paid good money for the apple protection program and couldn't imagine running and/or trolling the city without anything to drown out the mayhem that goes through my head, i quickly boxed my shit up and shipped over to the support center for a full inspection. three weeks later of working out and riding the subway sans music, i get my ipod back - STILL BROKEN, MIND YOU - with a note that stated repair was not covered within my warranty because of water damage. if i chose to repair it, it would be $129 to fix. WTF?! *WARNING* *WARNING* *RANT ALERT* you mean to fucking tell me that i need to pay almost the same amount to repair my ipod as i did when i bought it ... for something 1) that has never even been near liquid and 2) would cost you 2 cents to replace since little kids in china are probably making it for free?! really?! REALLLYYY?! after some fun conversations with the support team and customer service, i came to the ultimate conclusion that i'd be better off buying a new ipod ... now, my third. hence, one saturday night before dinner, i ran my bitter ass to the apple store in soho. jason was ultra-helpful and super-patient, answering such asinine questions like, "what color do you think matches with my outfit?" and "can you guarantee that this case keeps liquids OUT?!" he helped me pick-out a black nano with a sweet neoprene case in 15 minutes flat. he rocked my bitchy socks ... i hope someone gives him a hand job or something. as for those punks i spoke to on the phone, i enthusiastically give you one star. hopefully, your ipods suffer imaginary water damage, too. read more

I came to this store to get my laptop repaired. They said that would take me 3-5days. However, because they made a mistake in the serial number of my computer, my repair was delayed for half a week before it was finally sent to the factory. What was worse, they changed my repair ID without my consent, and I couldn't find their mistake out until I personally came to the store and ask for details. After the computer was finally repaired, I came to the store three times-because of the new repair ID I cannot receive their emails-and each time they said there are additional checks they need to go through. For example, one attendant asked me to come to their store once the computer was delivered, because sometimes emails are not sent; but when I dropped in after it was delivered, another one said the computer would not be ready until they send me the email-which I cannot get because the change in repair ID. The incompetence and inconsistency of many of their employees result in a great waste of time, and my terrible experience here. read more

I have now had to come to the Apple Genius bar on three occasions over the course of 2.5 years. The first was a few months after I got my Powerbook (after I finally made the switch from PC). The computer was inexplicably acting up, so I brought it in. The AG (Apple Genius) did some diagnostics testing and gave me some tips to try when I got home. I don't know what he really did, but it never acted up again after that. I guess they don't call 'em geniuses for nothin'! The second time was when my iPod was acting up. It wasn't charging, it wasn't turning on, it wasn't doing squat. I think it's b/c I had accidentally forgotten to put it on Hold and the click wheel was pressed up against something in my bag, thus sucking the battery juice totally dry (over the course of a 5 hour plane ride to San Francisco). Luckily it was still under the original warranty, so I knew it'd be covered. The AG took a look at it, played around with it, plugged it in, etc. He didn't say much, but he seemed very serious about his job. He typed some stuff into his computer, printed it out, asked me to sign, and then handed me a new iPod. Say what? Yeah, he just straight up gave me a new iPod to replace my wonky one. Just like that. Not only that, but my warranty, which only had a few months left on it, got a second life from the time I received the new iPod. Genius! And the third time was today. Last night I was walking down a flight of stairs in a Duane Reade. My laptop was in my satchel and then the metal clasp of the shoulder strap came unhinged. I stood frozen in horror as I watched my bag tumble down 12 steps like Jack & frikkin' Jill down the hill. It felt like I was watching it in slow-mo since it seemingly took forever to crash land at the bottom. There was no way I could have even caught it, even if I had snapped out of my stupor in time. I ran down and quickly turned it on. It came on. Big frikkin' sigh of relief. But then I noticed the body damage - a centimeter thick gap between the metal casing and the keyboard, where the casing was jutting out. Right where the adapter gets plugged in. I pulled out the adapter and the damn thing couldn't fit b/c of the jutting metal. Dammit. And I never bothered to get the ProCare extended warranty. Double dammit. So I backed up my HD like a good little girl and then made an appointment with the Genius bar today. I waited an extra 20 minutes to be seen, but no matter. You can't rush genius. When it was my turn, I took my laptop out. The AG noticed the jutting metal immediately and said, "I'm assuming that's why you're here." He then proceeded to tell me that that kind of damage isn't covered by the warranty (which I didn't have anyway), and replacing the bottom casing would cost $400-$500. Gulp! But then he took the laptop and said, "Hmm. This is pure wood [referring to the actual bar]. Hold on." So he pressed the laptop gently but firmly against the bar and the metal flattened a little. He tried to stick the adapter back in, but it still didn't go in all the way, and thus wasn't lighting up. He said, "Let me take this to the back" and gave me a little wink. I crossed my fingers and held my breath. He returned a few minutes later, put the laptop on the bar, stuck the adapter in the slot...and then there was LIGHT! Yay!! "Thank you for saving me $500!" I said happily. To which he replied with a smile, "It's okay. You can take me out to dinner next week." I would have happily done so if he seemed serious about it, but I'm sure that's what he tells all the genius groupies. I love my Mac and I love the Apple Store. All hail the Apple Geniuses! With that said, I love this apple store. My genius bar cool guy, whose name I never knew, reformatted my lappietop in 7 minutes flat. Yes, any employee could do that, but he did it in a no frills kind of way (after asking me three times if I've backed up my work worth years and years of blood, tears, and sweat - a necessary step no doubt.) The Apple Store in Soho is pretty. It's clean and white and has some wicked glass stairs stabilized by these little silver sprockets and each step is a little feat of engineering. You kind of feel proud of the human race when you walk on them. In fact, if you were just going to look around, you'd probably think the Apple Store was awesome. (This could partially explain why it is so crowded with dopes). But I went there today on a practical errand: I had a problem with my Macbook that is Apple's fault and they were supposed to fix it. But I left the store in frustration feeling silly for thinking that anything could be simple. The bottom line is their system for dealing with walk-in consumers isn't up to snuff. I think their hardware must have more bugs than they anticipated because they're really undermanned for onsite repairs. I waited for a few minutes today and finally an employee came up to me and instructed me to use the "concierge" on one of their computers to make an appointment to talk to a dude. I was like, "Dude, I'm talking to you right now. We're talking, see? I'm asking you questions and you're answering and vice versa: a conversation." But there was a syntax error and he did not compute. The first available appointment was in two hours, which I'm telling you, there's no effing way I'm waiting two hours for anything on this Earth. I literally can't think of one thing. My mother asked me to wait two hours for her--once. Even if I had waited, Apple wanted to keep my computer in store for 48 hours? Uh, what? Eh? Excuse me? Heh? I'm sorry? You're joking? Uh, why? Uh? Eh? Hey? At first I thought I needed Q-tips to clean some gunk out of my auricles but I had heard correctly! And a pit crew can change the tires of a Nascar in thirty seconds but the geniuses at the genius bar need two days to pop a piece of plastic off my computer and put a new one on? It made me want to say: Dude, I'm getting a Dell.* *I would except I'm totally in love with my MacBook. Anyway, this was just a depressing thing that happened.
